J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. whoa. so those pants are WIDE legs. like 10.5" at the bottom cuff laying flat. really long on me but u expected that since i'm 5'4". material and color are great but they are totally going back.

the boatneck stripe tunic has possibilities... but it runs big. i bought a size 4 (which is what i've been running lately in perfect shirts) and i at least need a size 2. not sure if the tie waist would be too high then. i would like to check it out in store but i'm sure there's other things coming up in the next release batch that i'd prefer.

    2. Okay, thank you for this. Wide legs on short people (like me) make me look like a character out of The Wizard of Oz. Too bad because I would have liked some nice full length chinos with a straight leg.

  2. OT: if anyone is searching for the LUCITE HEELS in Suede in the burgundy color, they sent me them by mistake. (I ordered the black). Size 9. They're beautiful, but I don't need the color. I'll return them to a store late this week. Feel free to reach out via IG @wearthislikethis or email wearthislikethis. At. Gmail

    1. My sister decided to take these SO for now, these are not available. If they don't work and I bring them back to the store I will update

  3. My reviews posted yesterday, see below. I'm also waiting for the wide leg chinos (similar to the wide leg pants in wool, with the pleats, which I have) and the tuxedo t-shirt. Which I wanted since I saw it, but knew I'd wait for sale since I wouldn't need to wear it over the holidays. I'm hoping the wide leg chinos work for me!

Stopped by my store to return the pajama top in tipping (I ordered the next size and waited for it to ship!) and the Regent blazer in blackwatch with satin lapel...loved it but felt I needed a tall size, it was just boxy on me.

Tried on the snap front pixie jodhpurs and the ones with the faux leather. I ordered them in a OO and think they might end up going back. The length is actually a bit long and they bunch up. The length of the ones with the faux leather was better but they didn't have a 00 in store and the 0 was definitely loose in areas. These felt a bit thinner/stretchier than the other ones. I'll try the other ones at home and see. Maybe the regular ones without the snap would work better, but then I feel like I'd just be in leggings.

I also tried the field mechanic jacket which is on sale online but not in store. I ordered an XS but prefer the slightly roomier feel of the S So I might exchange it in store and they said I could pay the same price I paid online. I think if you're taller than 5'4" or so sizing up might be the right move. My regular size fit but just felt a bit skimpy, especially because I like the waist gathered pretty tight.

I left with two clearance items.
Satin ribbon belt item G0459 in the golden chartreuse color. This is much prettier in person. It reminds me of the Campbell daisy blazer color from last spring. I haven't held them up together, but it's not chartreuse as you'd imagine, and not as lemony as it looks online. The reverse is almost a Kraft brown color and there is a fine edge in a deep garnet red. I like this under a blazer as it was shown with the blackwatch plaid blazer and jeans, in the navy color, but also to break up an all black outfit. I'm practicing my single loop bow. ;)

I also got the Sadie "loafer flats" in the cherry print. This runs about a size bigger than the Gemma size, so I sized down to an 8. I wasn't the hugest fan of the cherry print but I'm always in red and black and the cut of the shoe is very flattering. If you can snag these at the sale price I recommend. They're fun. Very retro style.

    1. I actually checked the color of the tie belt against the blazer. The browner side is very close to the blazer color. The chartreause is a little more saturated than the blazer color. Not sure if I'd wear them together but I wanted to accurately describe the color.

  4. Ongoing website issues. The regular priced cocoon coat is under 50 off but when you add it to cart it's excluded from promo... frustrating...I think the ChaTeu parka is the same

    1. same with the sperry boots, excluded frm promo in cart though they appear on the 50% off page. calld CS who honored the promo.

    2. Same with the sorrels... I was really thinking about getting them as I need real winter boots!

    3. Finally got a chance to check the site again. It looks like the glitch in the sorel boots was fixed and like the weak person I am, I caved and bought a pair. 🙈

    4. Me too. The black and gray with the red laces. Perfect for sloshy softball games in late fall/early spring.

  5. OT but it will be interesting to see if there is any New Balance blowback or reduction in JC's New Balance demand given the revelation this weekend that the owner/founder of New Balance gave 400K to Trump. LL Bean got a lot of blowback when a family member supported Trump but the Davis gift is more significant. Hmm.

    1. Cousy, there was been, there is a huge NB boycott already given this very reason since it is well known that NB has been supporting the campaign for months if not years. For more on this, you can check GrabYourWallet, a list of companies being boycotted due to their support of the incoming regime *Taking my academic hat off*

    2. I bought my daughter a few pairs and she refuses to wear them. I sold one pair (she hadn't worn) but have two more I'm not sure if I should try to return or what. Sad because it's not J.Crew's fault, but I won't be buying NB anymore.

    3. Oh, bummer - I just bought a new pair of really cute NB running shoes a few weeks ago as I had not heard about the $400k gift until just now! Guess that's my last NB purchase for a while, maybe ever. :(

    4. I wear mine proudly and also chew Trident gum and eat Welch's grape jelly.

    6. No NB for me either. GrabYourWallet is awesome!

    7. NBxJCREW collaboration is so lame to begin with, wasn't interested in buying anythig. Ever since I learned they support Trump, I am definitely not buying anything NB, nor LLBean, btw.
Don't underestimate the power of your wallet, ladies!

    10. never a fan of new balance, j crew has made a big mistake doing fitness wear instead of focusing on better quality.

    11. I like their classic line of sneakers. But saucony are fine instead. I'll have to check out GrabYourWallet

    12. New Balance has never worked for me so I'm not buying it either way. I had ordered some bras and tops over the summer directly from NB and the quality was good but I didn't care for the fit. Their shoes are always too narrow for me so they've always been a no-go. I can see why J. Crew collaborated with them, though, because I think they've had a lot of success with their shoes on their web site over the years. They always seem to make the wrong move when it's a big move, though. Small collaborations sell via J. Crew, but they're a risk and J. Crew should keep the collaborations small to keep the risk small. And I'd be more inclined to at least try the NB line on if it were in J. Crew stores, but I'm not going out of my way to order workout gear by NB via J. Crew when I can try on workout gear at a dozen different stores and save myself the trouble of returning what doesn't fit. That's where they're really off the mark. If they want to sell something, it needs to be in stores. I assume it's in some stores, but not mine.

    13. Yeah it was in NYC stores. I tried a few pieces but the fit was bad and I did not like the style of most of the rest of the pieces (i.e. no interest in wearing paisley and polka dots or orange colorblock when I work out). They missed the mark on this.

  7. Did anyone see anything about J crew discontinuing their maternity line? Maybe it happened a while ago, there's only 1 item left and nothing new seems to have popped up.

    1. I noticed the same thing! Is there any way to confirm if this line will ever be back? Their maternity pants have been a standard go to for all my expecting friends!

    1. LOVE! Thanks for this link, WFF. I particularly love that orange argyle sweater and then the gold top with light blue skirt combo at the end. Love how she re-used/re-styled a few pieces.

  11. My Sophia sequin pumps arrived today, and they are awesome!! Ordered 8.5, which is my normal size everywhere, and they're a great fit. So cute, and such a manageable heel height. Can't report on comfort yet, but I'm hoping to wear them to an event on Saturday with my tartan maxi skirt 🤗

    1. Yay, yay! I'm so happy! I can't wait to wear mine again. As a matter of fact, I love the silhouette so much, I got the red and black too. They look very similar to much more $$$$ shoes.

  12. Quick note to anyone considering these pants:

Petite skinny stretch cargo pant with zippers

item F9641 - I think only one color is currently Final Sale.

In any case, i had to buy and exchange these a few times because i was having problems with the fit. I bought the Stretch Cargo pants from last year (ones with the flaps on the backside) and those fit me perfectly in P25 (I'm 4'11", 110#.) This latest version, sans butt flaps, with added leg zippers are really cute, but they seem to have more of a high waist and as a result the P25 was obnoxiously tight. Snug at the waist, crotch and even the calves -- I felt like the Incredible Hulk ready to bust outta that thing. (Honestly worried I was going to rip them when i was taking them off!) I went up to a P26, good fit initially, but overall baggy/big in the waist, stomach & back. Disappointing, as they fit like mom jeans & i couldn't wait to take them off when I got home. Recommend buying your regular size and 1 size up to see which fits best.

@jan, if you're reading this, you were right, the Fiery Sunset flannel shirt is super cute! Love it, TTS. I really like how Boy Shirts fit.

    1. I have these cargo pants in Regular, I agree they are a bit of a tricky fit. The pocket placement makes them fit weirdly snug across the hips, and though they stretch out with wear, the tension across the front results in a saggy 'pancake butt'...I only wear them with tops long enough to cover the pancake!

      Delete
    2. @cagliari67 -- thank you for the validation, I thought I was going nuts!! Yea, good plan on wearing them with longer tops, will do the same going forward. Bit disappointed, as I bought two of last year's cargos b/c I loved the fit otherwise.

    3. @TM93, yay I'm so glad the shirt worked for you! I've worn mine a few times and love how comfy it is.
