"Thanks!" to many of you, including Fabulous Florida Mommy (in this post), as well as Stef (in this post), who shared the following news from Madewell this morning.
Madewell is now putting the "Final" to their Sale. (Click here to shop online.) Yup! They borrowed from J.Crew, and not in the most customer friendly way. Ah well! ;)
Madewell is also offering free shipping (on $100+) with promo code GOFORIT. This offer is for a limited time.
What are your thoughts on the change to Final Sale? Are there any Madewell items you are interested in?
Oh man! I love Madewell and I am a little sad that they had added the "Final" to their sales. :(
ReplyDeleteUgh, I am bummed about this too! They didn't even lower any of the prices. I've been looking at the same items since before Christmas, and the prices have yet to drop. Making it final sale is not going to make me suddenly want to take the plunge!
ReplyDeleteSad to see this... love Madewell too and there are some things I would have jumped at now that it's marked down (Pemberly blouse & a handful of others) but I'm not willing to take the chance with FS. I don't care how low you price the merchandise, I don't want to end up w/a dud I can't return even for store credit. And it's not like they even have many stores so you can't even try them on beforehand to check sizing!
ReplyDeleteBig mistake, Madewell! I'll pass.
Blows my mind that they do FS when you can't even try the stuff on to begin with! I did order a sale sweater and a full price sweater (both size small) one week ago, and the sale sweater I had to return b/c it was way too big. Hm. Goes to show you need to try clothes on first before dropping $76 on a sweater.
ReplyDeleteI'm very interested in Madewell but I won't shop the FS since sizing is a mystery. I compared their size charts with JC and there seems to be enough of a difference (as if size charts are even reliable) that I'd need to try things on first.
ReplyDeleteLuckily, there is a Madewell in Soho but I'm not sure when I'll have time to stop by. (I fully embrace online shopping as way more convenient than b&m shopping, even living in NYC.)
Couldn't agree more with you all. Since Madewell brick & mortar stores are very few across the country, it becomes difficult to know size/ fit.
ReplyDeleteI will say that I do understand why retail stores run Final Sales (to get rid of older merchandise). But usually its accompanied by deep discounts. It's too bad that isn't the case here.
sigh... i suppose it was inevitable. it was nice while it lasted! :(
ReplyDeletelike carrier tone, i live in nyc near a b&m but prefer online shopping...not falling for final sale though! i'm fairly new to madewell and still figuring out my sizing and such...can't take the risk ordering online without trying on in-store first (which defeats the whole point of the convenience of online shopping!) bah!
ReplyDeleteMaybe MW and JC are trying to rid themselves of all their merch before they go private and "start over". Ha!
ReplyDeleteFinal sales + no means to try on items = ridiculous.
The fact that there aren't many retail store and that they are mainly a mail order/internet business "final sale" is just a turn off for customers like myself who's never tried on their clothing.
ReplyDeleteI will certainly will not be ordering from MW.
definitely terrible news. i've bought many sale items online but it wasn't risky, and i did return some things that didn't fit well, even though i have other things in madewell sizes. not all fits are the same! darn it, madewell!
ReplyDeleteI was very disappointed to see this earlier this morning. Right now I am interested in more at Madewell than I am at J.Crew and have even been watching several of the sale items for further markdown in order to purchase. However, this changes everything. I am not risking a final sale purchase from them. I really hope they reconsider this decision.
ReplyDeleteI'm fortunate enough to have a Madewell in my state that's not too far from me so I decided to visit yesterday after work. I generally like Madewell's look but feel a lot of the items aren't made for ladies with curvy figures so it's not a place I regularly look for clothes. I saw the lace pocket tee on a rack and thought it was odd because I remembered it going on sale online ages ago. When I looked at the tag, it was obvious a sale sticker had been on it but scratched off. This would have been a fluke but the other tags were altered too! So an item went on sale but got popular again and they raised it back to full price without bothering to make new tags. It just annoyed me so I ended up leaving empty-handed. Maybe I was overrreacting (it's not like I went crazy and yelled at one of the SA's) but it was more evidence that J. Crew and Madewell do NOT want my money.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with Madewell also is that a lot of their clothes are manufactured by different companies (that's why most of their clothes don't say "Madewell" on it). And a lot of times, item measurements when you can get it, really don't help either. I understand that final sales help minimize returns and stock clearing, but they could perhaps have a 7 day return policy.
