"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

Preface: A big "thanks!" to Ibi who suggested weekly 'Looking to LOVE' and 'Looking to HATE' posts where we could all "deposit" our best & worst current experiences. I think it is a brilliant idea and will try it out for a few weeks. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

More on the J.Crew & New Balance Collaboration

As mentioned in previous posts like "J.Crew & New Balance Collaboration" "J.Crew Kicks It Up a Notch with Ads & New Balance", J.Crew is teaming up with New Balance for a new sneaker.

New Balance's online marketing and PR associate contacted me to share their press release about the upcoming product line. More exciting, there are lots of images of the shoes for us to view (click here to view more).
New Balance for J.Crew Collection
10.29.2010– New Balance and J. Crew, two iconic American brands, join forces on a Made-in-USA sneaker collection for Holiday 2010.

Built on New Balance’s legendary 1400 lifestyle silhouette, the New Balance for J. Crew collection was designed, developed and made in New Balance’s Maine factory for the discerning male who appreciates classic styling. The combination of the classic sport styling of New Balance and the clean aesthetic of one of the country’s leading fashion lifestyle brands, J. Crew makes it a perfect collaboration.

The collection features two unique colorways of the 1400 sneaker in premium suedes, which were designed in tandem by J. Crew’s Head of Men’s Design, Frank Muytjens and New Balance. The first, a never-before-created navy and the second, a moss green. In addition, the shoes have domestically tanned leathers from premium made-in-USA partners in an on-going effort to support local American manufacturers.

The limited edition 1400s will be part of the exclusive line at the J.Crew Men's Shop at The Liquor Store in Manhattan as well as the new J.Crew Men's Shop in Copley Plaza, Boston starting early November 2010 and will retail for $130.00. They will also be available online at J.Crew.com and sold in the J. Crew catalog.

The Holiday 2010 collection is the first of an ongoing partnership for the two brands. Stay tuned for more on this collaboration in 2011.

For more close-ups of the 1400 and a glimpse at the production process behind them at the factory in Skowhegan, check out the microsite for the collection HERE.
Again, I think the sneakers do look pretty darn good. I would love to see something for the ladies. :)

Now that you have seen more images of the exclusive New Balance for J.Crew sneakers, do you think you will get a pair? Do you think they should include the Women with this partnership?

J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

J.Crew's Marissa Webb On Spring 2011

A big "thanks!" to Silver Lining (in this post) who shared the following article from Elle (click here to read in its entirety) with us.
Marissa Webb On Spring: “Not Your Usual J.Crew Mix”
By Britt Aboutaleb

October 29, 2010

Last night, American Express hosted a holiday shopping party at J.Crew’s 5th Avenue flagship in New York. Jenna Lyons, Frank Muytjens, Marissa Webb and even CEO Mickey Drexler were on hand to help shoppers put together sparkling outfits and pick out gifts, but, despite our love of marled wool and Christmas cocktail dresses, we wanted to know about spring.

The brand’s presentations (held at New York’s Milk Studios) are almost as anticipated as fashion week, and next week’s spring reveal (on Thursday) is no exception. Now that Lyons reigns as President, she’ll formally introduce Webb, the VP of Women’s Design to the industry.

We asked Webb for a three-word sneak peek at spring, but she was too excited to stop talking: “Colorful. New silhouettes. New proportions — I mean, I could give you a lot! It’s more about the silhouettes, making an easy, colorful impact. There’s a little twist because it’s not your usual J.Crew mix, it’s more about the piece itself. It’ll still feel like J.Crew, because of the color, but with really exaggerated silhouettes.”

J.Crew’s mastered the art of introducing something new and suddenly making it seem necessary, so consider us on board for spring.
Well Ms. Webb, you got my interest! Now I just need some visuals. Hopefully we will see some images of next year's collection soon.

What are your thoughts on Marissa Webbs new role at J.Crew? Are you excited to see what perspective she will bring?

A Conversation with Jenna Lyons

A big "thanks!" to Nicola who shared the following video from Parsons The New School for Design (click here) with us!

The video features a discussion forum featuring Jenna Lyons and Derek Lam that Parson's hosted for their students.

What are your thoughts on the video? Are there any pieces of information shared that you found particularly interesting? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Email: 20% off when you open a J.Crew Credit Card

"Thanks!" to IrishBuckI, who shared the following email for J.Crew's Credit Card.

J.Crew is letting customers know about their latest promotion: Open a J.Crew Credit Card and get 20% off your first purchase. This offer expires Thursday, 11/7/10. To apply online, click here.

It is interesting to note that J.Crew states "Offer does not apply toward branded merchandise" again.

What are your thoughts on the email? Do you think the perks are decent enough to sign up? If you are a current card holder, would you recommend signing up for other JCAs?

The Great (Weekly) Exchange {looking to sell}

This post (of weekly posts) is for individual members who want to swap/sell/share among yourselves. This post is where you can mention your items and outside listing/ auction site (like eBay and eCrater & the corresponding user ID).

Please note: this posting is not for resellers. If you are a reseller, your comment gets automatically deleted & you will get publicly called out on it. :( So instead of this, simply do not post in the Weekly Exchanges. Thanks in advance for your cooperation! :)

Please note that any transactions are independent of this blog. (Especially since you will be using an outside listing/ auction site like eBay or eCrater.) I have no dealings or interactions with any of the potential communication, listings, or transactions. :) Moreover, please limit comments about items to swap/sell/share to the "Great (Weekly) Exchange" posts. (Refer to "A Quick Note to J.Crew Aficionadas" post.)

Do you have any items you would like to swap/sell/share among yourselves through your outside listing/auction site?

Sidenote: What's up with JCAs writing "sub" or "subscribing" as their comment? It just means they are subscribing to all the comments (which are then automatically sent to their email) in that particular thread. This way they can stay aware of all the comments posted. :)

The Great (Weekly) Exchange {looking to find}

This post (of weekly posts) is for individual members who are looking for and interested in buying certain items. Please feel free to share a J.Crew store location and/or your outside listing/ auction site if it matches the requests made in this post.

Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER & FALL sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)
