"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. This is a small vent, because I have been mostly liking J. Crew lately, but if something is cropped I wish they would say so in the product description. Since they don't cover return shipping costs, and since they've closed my nearby store, they need to do better with the product descriptions. This also goes for jeans that are "mid rise", then you look at the description and see that the rise is 11.5" (at least that nugget of information is in there if you look for it). Mid rise is 10" or less, more like 9" in my opinion. Be accurate, J. Crew, or pay for my return shipping!

I order a lot more from the Gap companies because they have free return shipping.

  2. Not a vent, just sharing a piece I really enjoyed from stylist Bridget Raes on making basic black pants outfits less boring and more stylish. She features a pair of J Crew pants and a J Crew blazer in some of the outfits and has a great list of elevated black pants options at the end. If you are not familiar with Bridget Raes, her clients tend to be professional/executive women and she uses quite a few designer pieces in her outfits, and you will see that reflected in her recommendations. Not 100% my style, but I always learn a few things for her posts.

  4. Speaking of pants, above, J.crew’s new tuxedo pants and velvet pants only have one inseam, which would be a touch short for an average height person to wear with heels. Banana has several pairs of wool and silk pants that come in short, regular and long inseams. Not surprising, banana’s Italian wool wide leg pants are sold out in almost all sizes.

  5. Is anyone else finding the denim is running large at Madewell and J. Crew? I've been trying the J. Crew slim boyfriend, Madewell Tomboy Straight Jeans, and Madewell Mid Rise Perfect Vintage Jeans and they're all running large for me.

    1. YES! My usual size is 26...

      Recently bought/tried on:

Jcrew slim tomboy in tea wash: 25

Jcrew vintage straight (not sure which color): 25 was too big but no 24 to try.

Madewell tomboy: 25 but they stretched out a little and I probably could have gone with 24

    2. Just about everything is running large for me. Today I received the wool tuxedo pants (BD286), and they were at least TWO and perhaps THREE sizes too big. They are a 00, and after zipping them, they literally just fell off. I knew when I took them out of the bag that they looked enormous, but I tried anyway.

Vanity sizing is out of control. I have size 00 pants from last year, and they are still fine, so it's not me.

    3. It is good to know this! I no longer have a local store to try on things and I tend to order jeans/pants when they’re on sale so final sale. I’d hate to be stuck with droopy drawers! I’m usually a 25/in vintage straight and size down to 24 in the slim boyfriend as I have a flat rear end. Why can’t they be consistent? Just when I think I have my sizes down, they change them! Vanity sizing out of control. I used to be size 2 at J Crew a LONG time ago & I weighed less than I do now.

    4. This past year, I've bought or tried clothes ranging from xxs to medium which is utterly ridiculous.

  6. I got the Magic Rinse™ wide-leg pant
Item AY085 And coordinating sweatshirt in icy orchid. The pants are horrible, the pockets stick out in such a weird way and the leg shape is just odd. I got the magic rinse joggers and have been wearing them as loungewear, so I thought the wide leg in orchid would be cute at night or for early morning walks when we are on vacation but I don’t think I can make them work. At all.
