Do you guys think there will be 60 off on Monday? Like a flash sale? Friday I will be heading to the store for some minor returns. Maybe they will have better promo there!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking they have to get rid of all the spring and summer stuff at some point…I’m looking at things that cost more now than when I put in my saved for later months ago.
DeleteAgree. Even last sale was better! They keep up and down game of the prices! I also see carmebr promo but new members only so what’s the point for us! lol! I am just more cautious of final sales even though last few times were fine at the store and 2 times before I basically cried for them to take it! Lol

DeleteLike many of us, I keep looking. All these elastic waist pull on pants are a disaster. If you have a long torso and/or a butt like I do they are not at all flattering.
ReplyDeleteI admit during Covid I leaned into this comfort trend but literally gave away every single pair of elastic waist pants besides sweats and the linen seaside pants I got this season. (Oh, and the banana sequin pants because they are in a clas of their own!) And each time I put the seaside pants on I think they look like pajama pants and they are pretty horrible. Maybe if they did a true wide leg with an elastic back theyd look more chic but I’m over it.
I’d do a chunky cardigan or sweater but I don’t like any I’m seeing from JCrew right now. I might try some slight platform sneakers from Nordstrom. Everlane has a new cotton sweater out in a ivory and charcoal Gray, all cotton which looks nice but I already have similar from a few seasons ago.
@Suz Has: I detest pull-on pants and skirts. I'm sure it saves on manufacturing costs because there is so much less detail and tailoring. I have never worn pull-on things, and I don't plan to. I'm also tired of "relaxed" everything. It is difficult enough for me to find clothes that fit with the vanity sizing these days. Now J.Crew's size 00 has been put on steroids.
DeleteI have a very vintage Ralph Lauren skirt from 1988 (wool riding skirt with a high waist) that still fits, and it is a size 6! I also have another relic from Banana Republic from around 1994 that is made of a lovely black crepe wool, lined, with a taped hem (!!!), made in Italy, and it is a size 4. It's true--size 4 is the new 12.
I am glad that I held onto these two skirts, but it makes me sad to think back on other classic items I let go during a move or a heated purge or whatever.
I think I just need to give up hope on J.Crew and others and be happy with what I do have.
I never wore elastic pull-on pants before 2020, and then "discovered" the joy of sweatpants / joggers during the pandemic. My friends used to be perplexed that I didn't own any, even to travel in, but now I have three pairs and I have to admit that I love them. I only wear them around the house as my WFH outfits - I haven't been brave enough to wear them out of doors other than to get mail or take out the recycling. And while I don't plan to buy more, I definitely see the appeal as home clothes. I am still working on getting up the courage to wear them for plane travel. I always feel it's just as easy/comfortable to wear a maxi dress or similar with my Converses for travel, so why wouldn't I if I can look more put together? But I get it.
DeleteAs far as vanity sizing, this is not a modern phenomenon. When I used to be a size 00, I wore vintage clothes from the 1950s/1960s that were size 6/8. Now that I am closer to the size of an average American woman, I can't even think of wearing anything from my vintage collection anymore. I don't think it's vanity sizing anymore - it's more like right sizing in line with the new expectations of what "average size" is.
Eeps: Yes, you're right. I was my current weight in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. In high school, I wore a size 6, which would be a 00 now. It seems that I'm falling off the charts now. Where do I go from 00/XXS? I've begun having those sizes altered, but I still have some 00's from just a couple of years ago that fit. I think this phenomenon has accelerated in the 21st century.
DeleteAgree with both of you. I’m a little bigger now than I was in high school but not much, I remember buying a skirt for graduation at the Limited and it was a size 4 I think. Would definitely be a 00 now.
DeleteI haven’t held on to much clothing through a few moves, but I have no regrets. I haven’t worked in an office in forever and my current work basically has me at construction zones so sturdy pants with decent pockets and comfortable shoes are perfect for work. For going out I have plenty. I’ve held on to a few blazers and coats from the good old days including a black velvet blazer, and heels a plenty which I’ve even given to my daughters, only keeping what feels special or I love to wear.
Eeps, it’s been awhile but I have never worn sweats for plane travel.
Not really a vent, but one thing I am happy to see at J Crew in the midst of this sea of elastic-waisted, “relaxed” frump is the return of blazers. Like most JCAs, I have a beloved collection of Schoolboys, Ecoles, and even a Bella so I don’t need any more, but a tweedy or jeweled-toned blazer is one of my favorite fall looks.
ReplyDelete@Ruffles: Yes, I do have quite a collection of blazers that I love, so I do not need more, but I could be tempted by some very special color in a nice fabric.
DeleteIt would be nice to see J.Crew offer some lovely wool pants that are tailored with a real waistband and a zipper.
