J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. It's quiet around here lately, probably because of the lack of new arrivals and the stagnation of the promo/sale section. I haven't made a purchase since mid-December, which is rare for me to go so long without buying something from JC. (I'm sure my local JC is wondering why I haven't been in for returns) So let's take this time to think about what we'd like to see for the spring? Any trends, colors, fabrics or pieces you'd like?

I know winter just started but I'm already over sweaters and wool, gray, and plaids. Been having a hard time getting dressed for work lately, just not feeling inspired after the holidays. I could really go for bright jewel tones, a rich pattern on a jacquard, or a print in some bright colors. And some more knit separates - not your standard long sleeve/round neck sweater, but something with a pretty neckline, a different cut or a different sleeve.

  2. I’m glad you posted. Its been awhile for me too. Post holiday sales would really need to be exceptional for me to bite this time of year. Prices haven’t really dropped and have increased in some cases as we all know.
At this point in my life I want clothes that fit well, are made of decent quality and materials or have an special function...it’s so boring but the way it is. I feel sad because I’m not finding it at JCREW or Madewell for the most part.
Then again it’s winter and I’m in hibernation mode, don’t need work clothes, and just dress up for dinner on occasion. So maybe it’s me, not you, Jcrew.

    1. Wow, my last order was nov 25 and it was mostly a reorder of a few sizes of stuff I ordered for my husband on nov 5.

  3. I'm still here but not buying much other than new workout gear. I was pretty busy with the holidays and not checking here as much. I also checked my order history and I haven't made a purchase since 12/11 - that might be a new record for me. I haven't been that tempted to look - the sales haven't been that good and I am also a bit in hibernation mode and wearing neutrals and a lot of black. I also spent a lot of time in activewear when I wasn't socializing over the holidays.

We're still in the thick of winter here so I haven't done much looking at spring gear aside from browsing vacation wardrobe items for Mexico at the end of the month. I'd be curious to hear what others are looking at as I honestly haven't paid a lot of attention to what the trends are for spring/summer.

  4. I noticed the markdown prices in store last week were less than what is shown online. If the prices matched and there was at least 50% off, I would most certainly place an order. However, I don't NEED anything so I've been holding out for better prices since everything in my cart is merely a want.
Would like to see more colors in the s/s perfect fit tee and Jackie cardigan, new Liberty prints and some straight leg denim that isn't so darned short!

  5. I do somehow have some rewards and have my eye on the 10" charcoal toothpicks. I wear my other ones all the time but would love another inch in the rise. Next decent full priced promo I'm going to purchase.

    1. It’s funny you say that. I ordered Everlane authentic stretch high rise in washed black which are on sale for $48 but they were too gray for me. I soaked my jcrew charcoal wash 9” rise jeans in a black dye bath (I was deepening the color of something else and added those in) and like them darker. I was just saying I would consider a high rise dark black skinny jean but the JCREW ones are shorter than I want.
I also got the Everlane ones in deep indigo and like them a lot but only the authentic stretch, the regular denim skinnies didn’t fit me well. They also have a curvy fit which may work well for you.

    2. Thanks Suz - I have not tried the curvy Everlane jeans yet but they're on my list. I was surprised that I wear the charcoal ones as much as I do since I have grey jeans that I barely wear. I also have the 10" J.Crew black toothpicks that I wear all the time but they are about an inch shorter than I'd like but they're fine with booties and for when it's not totally freezing out. (I think we commiserated about that when I posted about the 11" toothpicks which are nice and long :)

I tried the cheeky straight from Everlane last year and they didn't work with my figure.

    3. I’ve tried a lot that doesn’t work. Thankfully their returns are fairly simple and quick. Biggest issue is saying goodbye and not holding on to things too long, but that’s a universal problem, not specific to everlane

  6. I've bought a few things for my husband and the (adult) children. Just yesterday I ordered two pair of jeans, blue and black at $20 each. He has two pair of jeans, but they are not stretchy, so hope these will be the easy to wear pairs. Also the glen plaid car coat last month, which he's been wearing daily. It's good for this warmish winter. In his true size it's a little roomy in a comfortable way. I also ordered a thinsulate topcoat for my stepson, he's very happy with it.

  7. I haven’t shopped either. My last purchases were probably around Black Friday. I was intrigued by their new campaign on Instagram for Weekend Wear (or similarly termed). I liked how some of the girls were styled but I don’t know if I could personally pull off some of the looks and I’m not sure if it’s the direction J. Crew needs to head. Each season seems to bring some hairbrained idea/throw something at the wall and see if it sticks.

One new arrival I hope to pick up is the cotton striped tunic. I have this in navy/white from years past and really enjoy it in the transitional months. The plum/pink/navy(?) colorway is an alternative take on it but I’m not interested in full price especially since it’s still months from being weather appropriate for here.

  8. I haven't bought anything at J.Crew for over a year, which is unusual. Will be following future threads here on what people like. I've had better luck at Zara lately.
