J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. New arrivals. I like the direction of some pieces but also feel like they’re a few months late for some of them and not thrilled with questionable fiber content of others.
I visited the store last and wasn’t inspired to try anything on.
This is not even a complaint, just a statement. I’m glad I have a few older pieces I like and wear to death, I’ll add pieces that fit well, add an element of fun and that I love to keep it fresh.

    1. +1 Actually took the time to scroll through all of the new arrivals and didn’t see any must haves. I already have the basics, so it takes a special fabric (eyelet, linen, tweed, etc.), or special print (word tees don’t count!) to catch my interest.

I’ve finally been getting lots of wear from my Point Sur linen/tencel Seaside pants. I’ve been pairing them with sandals and sneakers, both work well. They’re flowy without being sloppy, and the elastic at the ankle is a bit more subtle than the cuffs on similar jogger-style pants from other brands so they feel a bit more timeless to me.

    2. I didn't find anything exciting in the new arrivals. No new colors or stripes in the perfect fit tee. Another couple of colors in the sequin Jackie that I don't really need as I already have 3. The one Liberty shirt kind of reminds me of pajamas and not in a good way so I'll skip that, too. All the gorgeous prints Liberty has and they selected that one? Passing on J Crew swim this summer as the styles do not suit (ha!) me at all. Either the bottoms are super high waisted or low riding hipsters. Where are the regular bikini bottoms? Thinking about stopping in the store today during lunch just because I haven't been in a while. My local store has been closed for a few years now and I still miss it.

    3. I saw a few things I'd like to own, but not at full price :-) One thing that might convince me is seeing the pieces in person, but since my local store closed, I have no interest in driving 1.5 hours to the nearest one just to look.

    4. That s/s chambray shirtdress looks suuuuuuuuuuuper comfy and soft. I won't be buying because tencel, but I bet it feels wonderful.
I am a sucker for the cat-related stuff. The new silk tiger print shirt (AC351) is right up my alley. I even love the soft pink background.
I also like the cat t-shirt (AB890). I like this is a fun marigold yellow, not that sickly dark khaki they've been doing.
I don't need anything right now (I already bought a few old things this AM with the 50% promo) but these are going on my wishlist.

    5. Nothing for me. Do like the cotton new arrival sweater but since it's not a need will wait for sale. Still want to see the geometric print silk point sur blouse from the last rollout. As far as 50% off, there is nothing I want!

My money went to Banana this weekend, who was/is doing 50% off sale. Hopefully I'll get a few winners when my order arrives. Ordered Friday, 8 items shipped complete and will be arriving Thursday!

  2. I stopped in to the store on Saturday and tried some items on - didn't take many pictures so no blog post. I did find a few things I liked - I had purchased the polka dot jumpsuit in a tall 6 to attempt a little longer length but it made the crotch wayy too long. My store had an 8 and it was perfect - nice and flowy on the bottom and fit well up top. I'm usually a 6 on top / 8 on bottom. I wore it Saturday night with the black suede tassel sandals from a few years ago and a denim jacket.

I tried the new s/s chambray dress but the sizing was off on me...I didn't find it worked well on curves, same with the sleeveless linen shift. For the chambray dress, the 8 worked well on top/was too tight on the bottom and the 10 was huge on top and worked on the bottom. I would have liked a little more length too but it doesn't appear to come in a tall. The linen dress was also cute but a bit short in the medium - I tried the bright pink and will keep an eye out for a tall, and likely on sale.

I also loved the button front sundress in poplin - purchased in navy in a size 6 which is the smaller of my two dress sizes - was fine with the flowy skirt. This is one of those classic dresses that I will likely wear for multiple summers. It hits me right below the knee.

I also purchased the crewneck beach sweater in ivory - it runs large, I purchased an XS and it's still generous but not sloppy. I had some rewards to spend and got 30% off but I will probably hold out for sales on anything else I might need for summer. We're heading to Portugal in October too so I will probably watch for dresses for that trip too since it should still be on the warmer side.

  3. I did end up ordering a few sale items to try. Nothing super exciting but stuff that will get worn if it fits well. Pull on easy pants in crepe, trying two sizes. I love my curator pants but they’re looser and slouchy. Also trying the sleeveless mockneck smocked top in crinkle chiffon in solid black. I have the floral from last year and love it with jeans, not sure if the fit of the solid is the same but for a lot less than I paid for the floral it’s a more feminine take on my usual black sleeveless. 😂

    1. So girly!!!

Did you have a pair of wool blend wide leg/high waist trousers in a darker red with black plaid? The waist buttons are off to one side. Maybe from last winter? Anyway, I think I ordered them in a 2, and am wondering how they fit.

    2. I ended up returning them. I loved them but between the louder pattern and the billowy legs I felt they wouldn’t get worn enough. I think I had the 0 and it fit well but the 00 fit too.

    3. I should add the waist is tiny and the rise is high, but I prob needed a slightly higher rise for my long torso.

    4. Thanks, I hope they will fit in the 2. Hopefully if you could wear 00 I should be ok in a 2. I like loud, and these would be for work, so the dressy style may be fine. Still, they are returnable. Hoping they will work with my burgundy silk blouse or my burgundy suede pumps. Could also go with black, of course.

    5. My pants arrived and I think they are keepers for me. The waist is tiny, I just fit it. The hips are good, and I like the loose legs. Just long enough for heels, the burgundy pair I had in mind are fine as is the burgundy silk blouse tucked in. For me the color works well. They will be good 3 season pants for work.

  4. My silk hi low ruffle dress arrived and I’m debating whether to keep. It’s gorgeous on and the fit is great, quality is good. I thought it would be more sundress like but it’s a little formal, almost gown like. I thought I could wear it to work. I don’t have any special occasions this summer (and even if I did I have at least two formal dresses still with tags on). Should I keep? Will it look weird if I wore it to work?

    1. It’s such a pretty dress! My first thought when I saw it online is that it’s kind of dramatic. I don’t know what kind of work environment you’re in of course, but I agree that it reads more gown than sundress.

    2. I work in a corporate/conservative environment but we are business casual during the summer. I err on the side of being more dressed up than others because I have a somewhat public facing position.
All i can think of is wearing this dress with flat sandals and a cardigan at work to "dress it down" but the ruffle/bow tie still seem too fancy.

BTW how did I miss this dress: Sleeveless Embroidered Poplin Shirtdress (L7665)_ - it's beautiful!

    3. I googled this...is it the Ruffle hi-low silk dress in tropical floral? H6247?

    4. So pretty! I didn't see that one. Don't know about wearing it to work. If you think you can, you should! I have the yellow silk sarong dress from last summer hanging in my closet...tags on...just looking to be worn.

    5. I just looked it up because I haven’t been looking at dresses. It’s beautiful but def looks more “special occasion” than office attire.
I always like to have garments on hand to wear for special occasions but it sounds like you already do. I hate to be the voice of reason but I’d prob return unless you absolutely love it, paid a great price for it to sit in your closet or would even feel ok wearing it to a nice dinner.
I bought the roaming tiger shirt dress which is not even as dressy and ended up selling it on Poshmark because I just didn’t have a need for it.
