Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Creaw this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. I did visit yesterday when I made two Madewell returns. 50% off sale was scattered throughout the store.
The only thing I tried were the Cameron tartan pants. I was curious about the fit of this cut but they didn't do it for me. Not sure if sizing up would help, but I wasn't crazy about the pattern for pants (for myself) and since I have the tartan blazer on its way that'll do it for me!
Definitely some solid deals to be had but nothing I needed.

  2. I'm so glad you were able to try them on and put that to rest! I know the feeling of wondering, and wondering...

I was in store yesterday too and I picked up the Avery tweed pumps for $31 after my $25 "you made the nice list" coupon, and a 15% off coupon. I don't know why I didn't think Averys fit me - they do and very comfortably. I tried them on Friday while doing returns but was trying to do this whole no shopping thing. I figured if they were still there it would be meant to be, so very happy camper over here!

  3. Heavenly J. Crew visit this weekend. Sale extra half off plus it had been marked down a ton!! I managed to score a signet mini bag for $41 and got free monogram in store. I saw like 6 bags of it there Sat morning and I grabbed one and the rest were gone in less than 5 min. It is a dark tan bag with a dark red tag hanging. The other things I got are: Red lace pants for $25, Tres chic t for $8 and a sweater for $10!

    2. Yes this is the flagship store for our state, they said it is rare for a store to have the monogramming machine...but i feel even luckier I managed to find a signet bag on sale and for so cheap

    1. I'm dreading the package avalanche waiting for me tonight when I get home. It seems every order from every store is shipping one item at a time. This cannot possibly be cost effective!

      Delete
    2. I haven't received multiple shipping confirmations yet but I did check my credit card and noticed that my last order of 5 items are being charged individually rather than as one charge from JC. I'm assuming from this that they will be coming from 5 individual stores soon.

      Delete
    3. I have 5 separate packages on the way and a few items on my order left to ship. I haven't placed a large order like this in months and I am cringing at the thought of all the deliveries.

      Delete
    4. My first 50% off order is 12 items. So far two have shipped (separately). If I get 12 individual packages, my postal carrier is going think I am a crazy lady.

      Delete
    5. I can't stand this either. I get everything shipped to my office because I don't like my packages on my front porch all day. Which is worse? 5 days of packages? Or several days with multiple plaid J crew ones each day?

    6. Got my 40% sale package yesterday. Love everything except the camp socks; thankfully they were only a few bucks. J Crew sure messed up this classic. They're not the same beefy cotton like my older ones. Too much acrylic - they feel awful.

      Delete
    7. I haven't gotten any of my packages yet. I think I'm supposed to get one today from Crew, two Madewell today, and three crew on Thurs. sigh!
I ordered those camp socks too!

      Delete
    8. @shopalot sorry to hear about the socks. I, too, love the pair of camp socks I got a few years ago. If I didn't have more socks than anyone should have (even after significant downsizing), I would have also been tempted by the sale. I have the coral color and find them cute, cozy, and durable. I hope J.Crew has plans to correct the cheapening of so many previously successful items. They work so hard to earn years of good reviews for an item, then throw it all away. Like the coats...

    2. Anyone have a list of the stores slated for closing this month? Just curious; my local store closed three years ago and I'm still mad about it.

    3. Madison, WI is closing on the 27th.

    4. Annapolis and Towson in Maryland. Sad face!

    5. Just received an email saying that the Tyson's Galleria store will be closing at the end of the month. Something is fishy here. There are a ton of stores closing and in all of my years of J.Crew shopping, I've never gotten such deals on items as I just did with their recent sale. Either they're shutting down their main retail business or they're moving toward an online only business. The J.Crew Factory stores do a ton of business as the outlets near me but I've definitely seen a drop in traffic in the main stores. I'm so upset!

  8. I placed an order when the 50% sale started (couldn't resist)...and of course an item has already canceled. Am I the only one who just wants to cancel their whole order when one thing get canceled? I know it's ridiculous, but UGH it is so irritating!

  9. OT but if you are looking for some really useful and uplifting style inspiration for the new year, youlookfab posted her “top 25 style tips.” Quite a few really resonated w me and reminded me that I can get into a bit of a J Crew “rut” at times!

  10. Received my order from Madewell's 40% off sale, and all three items are going back. Each was listed as 100% cotton on the website, but turns out each contains significant %s of poly and acrylic. Really wish they'd be more accurate in describing fabric content.

Some cute items. The color choices don't work for me though. I don't look good in yellow, rust, peachy colors.

The Multi-stripe long sleeve dress looks like it might work. I'll have to see what the length is, as I usually wear a petite in a style like this.

    4. Eyelet Lattice top is pretty. Not crazy about the styling, which is true for me for a lot of Madewell items.

    5. You’re welcome Maryeb. The styling on some I can’t pull off. Too 70’s or 80’s...but picking from the pile and making it my own works. 😉

  13. I placed another order at 3 am. *hangs head in shame*
BUT - I got the belted plaid puffer for $40.36 (used my last 15% coupon). And a bunch of other stuff I regretted not getting the first go 'round that happened to pop back up, like the tall perfect shirt with velvet bows, tall tiered ruffle top with scalloped lace trim, and peplum-sleeve V-neck sweater.

It's like I read elsewhere on the JCA site - I order these things and then return them and get mad that the items I weeded out are no longer available. Now I will have a whole bunch to go through but hopefully some keepers.

    1. Yay for finding some good pop backs! I was able to get a price adjustment for the plaid belted puffer to the $40.36 as I ordered it the day before the markdowns. I am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I know some thought it was bulky but for $40 I think I can live with it and hoping it is cute.

      Delete
    2. I saw the plaid belted puffer yesterday @ Nordstrom. It was very cute and if you prefer the look without the belt, it is easily removable.

      Delete
    3. Sorry I was having trouble!
I think that puffer is cute and I wish it also came in the red plaid colorway, which works better with my wardrobe.

      Delete
    4. I am not sure how much wear I will get out of it, is it even warm? I do hold on to my J Crew jackets and coats for a long time so I'm sure I'll get my money's worth. I hadn't even considered removing the belt, so that is great to hear!

And if it was in red, I'd love it even more. I haven't worn my navy Rihanna platform pumas in a while so I'm thinking this jacket may help with those and boyfriend jeans for the grocery store kind of days. Freshen stuff up a bit.

    5. My plaid puffer arrived and I like it. I just wish it was the small I ordered and not a medium! It came from the warehouse not a store. The outer bag is marked small but the coat itself is a medium. My husband says it doesn't look bad but I know the small would be a better fit. I know if I contact customer service they will refund me but I really just want the right size!!! Guess I will stalk the site for pop backs which I have not done in a long time.

      Delete
    6. Jess, that is a shame. If you contact them via email, I believe they will reply saying that should you find the correct size, to reply to their email and they will discount appropriately and waive (maybe even expedite in your case) shipping. That was my recent experience. Don't settle for the medium. I'm glad you like it besides that. I've never even seen it in person and went in blind lol.

      Delete
    7. Thanks Cheri. It is different than any other coats I have and worth the $40 for sure. Hope you love yours when it arrives. I have had great experiences with customer service so it is worth a shot. I just dislike that it is on me to hunt the site for a pop back when they screwed up.

      Delete
    8. Of course Jess! If only they had some kind of internal alert "hey, we owe one to this woman over here". It stinks.

  14. Are they still giving out 15% off cards in packages? I am hoping for one with my deliveries today so I can place a small order before this promo ends. I have the deer print shirt, chocoholic tee and a plaid shirt in my cart and negating if I should place the order. The extra 15% would make me pull the trigger.

  15. Just received a $50 off $50 from J.Crew via snail mail. I didn’t receive this offer like others on here during Christmas. Perhaps another wave of these is slowly trickling out of the mothership?

Also, a review of the quality of the ribbed popover is in order: the lambswool is not scratchy at all and has only pilled on a few spot under the arm after a week of continuous wear. Highly recommend this item if you can still catch the green or the navy. I already bought the seaweed heather and am contemplating buying the white as well if an xs pops back online. I know the white might be a bit see through but I don’t mind, as I’ll just wear shades of camel underneath. I have also cinched this sweater with a belt for a more fitted look. :)

    1. @Namora, thanks for the review. I am drawn to that piece, but was put off by some reviews. I appreciate your worn-it-a-few-times view.

    2. No problem Sarah! I know, I was put off at first by a few reviews as well. But once I tried on the popover in store, I was in love! The piece is super versatile. I got the navy one first and then bought the seaweed green for $25 during the 50% off sale. I’ll just collect the white one as well for a nice weekly rotation :D. I remember you ordering the mockneck tunic sweater right? You’ll love it! I have both the navy and white...Both are gorgeous pieces and heavenly soft.

    3. So fab to hear! And good memory ;-) I haven't received the tunic sweater yet, but am definitely looking forward to it, as my other sweaters are mostly fitted and shorter- I just want cozy right now. Happy those worked for you. Also that you received a $50 offer- how nice!

    4. Namora, I am so happy to read this. That is the only non-workwear sweater I have wanted but the reviews turned me off. I was definitely NOT buying it. Now I will see how my orders fit and maybe hope for a popback. Thank you for taking the time to post after wearing!

  16. Some reviews:

Finally got a few orders from Jan 1.

Leggings: got the JCrew ankle tie ones and the NB ones with the side pockets. I ordered XS and S just in case. Both fit but I have concerns about opacity with the smaller size. I will have to do a daytime test.

Excursion vests: I ordered sand for my daughter and myself and a new black one since mine is about 4 years old and constantly worn. Someone in a post a few days ago mentioned the percentage of down to feathers is lower, and that's correct. Both my older black and my older red from 2014/2015 have 70/30 and this is 60/40. This one seems like it might be a touch longer in the back but it might be from washing and wearing the others. I still think it's a great piece, and my older one looks almost good as new. Hopefully this will have the same durability.

Tall boy shirt in mini Buffalo check: I should have read the length of the regular because the tall is pretty long. I was hoping to wear under the cable knit with fair aisle but the red is not as deep, as a matter of fact, it seems almost pink and I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be. I'll have to look in the day light. Otherwise I like the feel. Nice, soft, cozy flannel.

Embellished Mary Jane pumps: swoon. Fabulous. They run a bit smaller than Averys so I'm glad I sized up. They're so pretty. AND the heel is high but walkable.

Tall Parke blazer in tartan. I am not sure about the fit but I posted a pic on IG and people say KEEP. (So far!) I'll try with a few more things.

Also got an Everlane black cotton trench that I think might be a keeper. And ordered my husband joggers from Everlane that he says are really comfortable and they look good (although he wishes they didn't have the band at the bottom, but they look nice with a sweater and cute sneaks, so I'm making him keep both! I wish I got him the matching sweatshirts.

Athleta: Never ordered before. I received a few pants and don't love the fit off the bat. One is too big, one is not quite right. I was hoping one style would replace my lulu dance studio pants but they're just not as cool. Definitely comfortable though.

    1. @Suz, thank you for all of the reviews! I just checked your IG and echo the others on the tartan blazer, I think it looks fantastic on you! It's a fun piece and it looks like good quality. I bought the tartan maxi skirt which I was on the fence about but it was fun and festive wearing it for the holidays.

      Delete
    2. Thank you. I do need to try it with a few other things because it feels like it might be a bit loose, but for the end of season price, it might just be a fun thing to keep in the closet.

I'll be posting more pics on IG @wearhtislikethis!

    3. Thanks for the reviews, @Suz!
If anyone is looking for a warm legging, I absolutely love Athleta's Polartec Power Stretch Tight. I size up to a small as I don't like my leggings to be tight. I'm planning on ordering the High Rise Metro Drifter when I'm up for shopping again. I will report back, if anyone is interested.
Also own and love a couple of Athleta's cargo pants.

  17. I received the lookouts/9" toothpicks in the new Solano wash (don't understand the name as there was an older Solano wash)- I like them better than the old Solano wash that I tried early fall as these are softer. I find them tighter than my Prescott wash but I'm confused as I tried sz 29 in store and they were too big so I ordered my usual sz 28 but they feel quite tight. Also disappointed as the pair in store was more even in colour but the ones I received have much more obvious whiskering.

Drapey crepe faux wrap top- received the beautiful green colour in a sz 2 (a sz larger than my usual). I like that the larger sz gives a tad more length in body and the arms and a little more movement. It is too lowcut on me without a cami which takes away from it so I'll have to try it again before deciding as I really love the color and the drape. I tried my usual sz 0 in store in a diff color and liked the fit but it was a bit tight in the shoulders. The zipper in the armpit area is uncomfortable at times (I could really feel it poking me) on the one I received- has anyone found the zipper to feel weird on theirs? Wondering if it's the one I received or if they'll all do that on me?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wonder if the ones in store had been tried on a few times and that's why they were loose?

I never tried the drapey crepe top because I knew off the bat, long torso/no boobs, it would not be the right proportions on me!

      Delete
    2. I have this wrap top and no issues with the zipper. I do wear a Commando whisper cami underneath (it's super lightweight and I pull it down so you can't see it with the V-neck) and I wear a lighter weight bra so I'm not creating any cleavage but no issues with the zipper. Did you find the zipper was bad on both?

      Delete
    3. Lol @Suz, I’m long torso no boots too. :)
@Anne, I don’t remember the smaller sz in store having a zipper that I felt was noticeable or uncomfortable. That’s why I dont like online shopping sometimes. It’s back ordered until March now if I want to try a diff one.

  18. Got my 40% off package today, all FS. long sleeve silk star dress has a Collection label, which is weird because I don’t recall seeing it under that category. It’s pulling a little at the shoulders but I think it’s my Christmas cookie weight showing. Marties in cloud grey P4 unfortunately do not fit like 2R as I was told, I took like I have room for a diaper or Serenity pad, but I can wear with a tunic to cover the crotch area. It’s hard to argue with $20 Marties. Lightweight cashmere v-neck in neon primrose is VERY bright but I compared it to the colors of my Liberty Thorpe ruffle top and the pinks match perfectly. Instant pairing! And love how soft the cashmere is - $25 can’t be beat. One item from my 50% off order arrived - fringe cableknit sweater, which I took in my usual size and it was ludicrously large. I’m 5’1 and swimming in it. The fringe slit came up way past my belly button - I always thought I had an avg length torso. The weight is lovely and thick but I looked like a child in a man’s fisherman sweater who got into a fight with a fish hook on one side. Really glad it wasn’t FS because back it goes.

    2. Was at the Madison Avenue store last night for a pickup and the back third of the store was all final sale. This location usually doesn't have a large sale section so I was surprised and mentioned it to an SA who said she also hasn't seen it this big. I'm guessing that with their wonky inventory over the past month, they have a lot of stock and the recent promos haven't moved enough of it. Was it last year or two years ago when they had an insane after-Christmas sale something like 70-75% off?

Canadian online site... prices 30% higher than US prices. our $ is at 80 cents today. we will most likely not get the MLK sale promo as its not our hoiday. as far as I know...no Canadian JCA's received 15% off coupons in pkgs in Dec. our shipping is $12 and takes up to 2 weeks. all the above is making my "no shopping until feb" pretty easy. I would not be surprised if JCrew closed stores in Canada...

Canadian here -- I did receive one 15% off promo coupon with a shipment to my home, HOWEVER, it was not applicable to the purchases made on the Canadian site (coupon said "Valid in US Only") -- so useless! Because I live in Vancouver, I have a post box in WA state, so I applied to a purchase I had sent over there. Otherwise, I would have asked to have it applied to a purchase sent to my home.

Incidentally, I ended up returning almost all the purchases I made with that coupon, smh!

  23. I wish Madewell would make their Slim Straight Jeans in more non-destructed washes and in corduroy. These are my absolute favorite jeans and I'd replace all my denim and cords with this style, if I could.

    1. I literally just went on to madewell's website to look for cords (none), and saw the slim straight jeans with the distressed knees and thought 'those look great, I wonder if they have them without the distressing.' Where are all the good corduroys now?! Jcrew is really sold out as well. Madewell jeans fit better and they have better tall sizes, so I'd rather buy cords from there, if they sell some. How do the slim straight jeans run?

      Delete
    2. I have not found any cords to replace my beloved J Crew matchsticks. If anyone has suggestions, please pass them on!

      Delete
    3. @stripedsocks. I got the Slim Straight William's Wash in the regular length, in my usual size 26. The length works well for my 5'3.5" height (113lbs). I've worn them with flats and ankle boots. These jeans also come in tall and taller.

I'd love to know if anyone has found something similar to the matchstick cords, too. I've worn a few of the earliest versions out and wouldn't mind some more colors, too.

      Delete
    4. I've only tried the skinny (toothpick-equivalent) cords at Loft, but I really like them and they're regularly priced around $25 with Loft's frequent generous promos. They have skinny, boot-cut, and straight-leg cuts on offer in two different fits, and both in petite and regular inseams. Something for everyone! I find the skinny ones to run just slightly bigger than J. Crew jeans (and they also stretch a lot with wear), but I didn't size down. Hope that helps! I also have a pair of Matchstick cords in boulevard green in a 26-short from 2012 that I've barely worn if someone is interested in purchasing, lol!

      Delete
    5. I think Gap might have good corduroy options. I bought some straight ones from their 1969 Collection a few years ago and still love them

      Delete
    6. Appreciate the cord recommendations. I not only have held onto old matchsticks, but old bootcut J. Crew cords. I have them in about eight different colors (rose, bright gold, bluegrass, plum and neutrals) and they still look great. I know they won't last forever and I'm not sure J. Crew will ever offer them again at the same quality. Talbots has had some pretty colors but I find they're cut larger through the waist and hips, than comparable J. Crew sizes.

    7. I second Alyssa, I discovered Loft pants last year and never looked back. I'm petite and their petite lengths are actually wearable for me, lots of choices and fits. They also just introduced a plus line. I loved Pixies until I tried the Loft ponte pants, much more substantial and hits at ankle without hemming.

    8. thank you for the cord recs all! I need a tall inseam (minimum 32 inches for a straight/skinny leg) so regular won't work, but I hope next season madewell will have more. and thank you maryeb for the slim straight williams advice, good to know they run true to size!

  26. Totally unrelated to JCrew but I'm so excited...my daughter took my black ankle boots and a few other shoes when she went to school. I didn't really mind but its nice to have a decent pair of black ankle boots that arent winter or rain boots. My boots weren't very expensive but had a silver toe cap which made them kind of unique. I was looking around and fell in love with these, linked below. Suddenly I found them in my size after not seeing them, and they are a great price. Fingers crossed they ship and they fit!

  27. Quite a few of my items from the sale have arrived and I am really pleased with my picks/sizes. Ended up with the long sleeve lace top in a 6T, the white tiered ruffle top with eyelet trim in a 4T, sequin tweed lady jacket, leather front pixie pants (SO glad I pulled the trigger on these) and the paisley silk twill top. I'm not a huge fan of the scallop trim on the paisley top - does anyone have any idea how difficult it would be to remove the trim? Not a dealbreaker for the price but just don't love it.

I may bite on a coat if the sale hits 60% on Monday but feeling like I'm good for a while with this latest haul.

No coupons in any of my packages.

    1. Anything leather on super sale is a no brainer in my book. In fact, I'm wearing my black Pixie's with leather stripe down the side which were super sale circa 2013.

I do remember reading another JCA removed the scalloping from her paisley blouse and was happy with the results...hopefully someone remembers whom or they read your post.

  29. I'm embarrassed with myself, just placed another order. One item from last week's order was significantly price cut (again) and then there was some practical stuff, like the puffer Wintress coat for what I think is a fair price, some stuff for the husband, the star pants (how could I not for the price, not final sale) and the only thing that was final sale was the crepe wide leg pants, but since I love the style it will be a great addition. I think they're not as wide as the Madewell Caldwell pull on trousers I have.

    1. You are not alone :-)

Someone said that they couldn't see how the prices could go any lower. But some of the prices have. I am trying to avoid final sale items, even when they are practically giving items away, but it's very hard. I was happy to see that a number of things were not final sale. Even the $12 Canadian shipping that I have to pay is not acting as a deterrent with the great prices and the popbacks.

I really have to stop checking the website.

      Delete
    2. I should have said "are not final sale" - at least for today

      Delete
    3. Right, and if there is a better promo for MLK day, (that sounds really trite, but it was mentioned above) I will ask for a PA.

      Delete
    4. Add me to the embarrassed to have placed another order club. There were new items marked down that were not Final and as others pointed out deeper cuts. Only one of my items was final sale. I got the chocoholic tee(for pj's), deer print popover, Tartan multi strap shoes, cashmere crew neck in burgundy($40!) and Ruffle sleeve fair isle sweater. I am guessing the items will flip to final sale tomorrow so I am cool with ordering now with option to return and asking for a PA if the sale % goes higher.

      Delete
    5. Good for you! I hope you love the star pants, I was so pleased with them once I finally ordered. That is a great price for a long puffer. And wide leg pants aren't easy to find when you're looking. Solid choices. Plus your hubby got something and that sweetens the deal :)

    6. I ordered too and happy to find wishlist items at deep discounts. Daphne tweed coat popped back in my size, and for $80, it’s worth giving it a try. Also, ordered tartan D’orsay flats with velvet tie, Black Watch glitter heel pumps, black watch loafers, plaid belted puffer jacket and fuzzy slippers. Shoes were ordered yesterday and they’re even cheaper today, so I’ll ask for a PA. What’s still weird is super old items are more expensive than recently released items. SMH.

    7. @SuzHas - would love to hear how the crepe pants compare to the Caldwells. I have and love the Caldwells, but sometimes I feel like I'm sweeping the sidewalks clean in them. I have to super careful walking up/down stairs because of the width.

Collection patio pant in silk-wool tie-dye (E8815) - $99 after promo, and Trench coat in shirting stripe (F3901) - $50 after promo.
Both from mid-2016: who can find something even older??

Really just the wide leg pants and Wintress puffer I'm most bummed about, but chances are they'll turn up. Luckily I saved the shopping cart images so if they do and they're more $$$ I will reach out to thr stylists who usually help me and ask them to pricematch the lost order. I did get my shoes price adjusted instead of reordering.

    16. I placed another order today too, right before the website started acting up (I went back to see what else was in the sale section and couldn't even load the page); the tartan pants, two of the faux wrap tops in tall and the ballet wrap sweater in black. Anyone have reviews on any of those items? I'm concerned about the sizing on the faux wrap top, reviews say it runs insanely small, people are going up 3 or 4 sizes. I normally take a 0T if they have it, otherwise a 2T, and I ordered both 2T and 4T and sent them home, but have to decide between them without trying them on due to not being in the US now. I'm hoping the ballet wrap sweater would look good with work skirts and dresses.

      Delete
    17. Managed to grab the puffer in tall small which will probably be better t XS for layering, and snagged the pants in the 0 too. Of course the stylist left when the pants showed up so I will ask to waive shipping charge.

      Delete
    18. @stripedsocks, re: the drapey crepe faux wrap top (the solid poly ones) I tried my usual and smaller shirt size 0 in store and it fit pretty well but it felt a touch tight in the shoulders and it was a bit tight pulling it off. So I ordered a 2 online, which feels good in the shoulders and the length is pretty good (I'm 5'7") but it feels like it might be too loose in the arm pit area. Also, It is too low cut on me without a cami unfortunately but I know others haven't had that issue. I'm really on the fence about whether the 0 would be better. The 2 is def easier to get off/pull over my head. I'm small chested though otherwise I can see why people sized up if needing to accommodate a larger bust.
@Suz Has, yay, I'm glad you were able to reorder some of the items!

      Delete
    19. thank you Jan! Appreciate the help! I'm small chested too, and not that tall (5'9) so usually the tall proportions give me plenty of room, so I think I might be able to get away with the 2T. At 22 dollars each, I guess i could just keep the 4T too...

      Delete
    20. @Suz, I for some reason am just seeing you were able to get some things. I think you probably made out better with the Small! Do you miss anything you were unable to get, or is the initial hurt gone? Just curious.

  33. More reviews:
the New Balance zip jacket IS FABULOUS. Yes, it runs small. I got size Small and its fitted. I love it.

Avery tweed pumps with the bow: LOVE. my smaller/more typical size fits perfectly.

Perfect shirt in Stewart plaid, I ordered 4 tall. Fit is perfect but pattern is too large scale for me. Too bad because I like the colors.

Camp socks didn't bother me at all. They def feel a little acrylic but it is what it is.

Tissue turtleneck in stripe. I have this in a solid and ordered down becsusethe solid seems to have a lot of stretch, this doesn't. It's super comfy on but I think I need a size up otherwise I might rip it when I put it on. Maybe it will stretch. Great layering piece.

    1. Hi Sue Has, Thanks for the review on the Avery tweed. I ordered 2 sizes because I have a very narrow heel. My concern is the sole, is it stiff or is there some cushioning to it? Don't want them to feel like plywood:)

  34. I am hanging my head in shame as I just keep falling off the wagon each day it seems. Today I ordered Sperry boots, a few crewcuts items and a tee. I ordered a cocoon coat, black watch plaid perfect shirt, necklace among other things since the 50% off crushed my willpower.
I'm excited that the cocoon coat has shipped but am wondering how I'm going to fit it into my bursting coat closet. I just couldn't pass it up at the price. I love my sandstone one from 2 years ago but the zipper drives me nuts, I'm hoping this years has an easier zipper.

The only sale purchase I received so far is the NB seamless tee and really like it even though they sent me the wrong color. Since its for yoga or essentrics I'll just keep the color. I sized up to medium since reviews said it was slim and I prefer looser for class. The length is long enough and it's nice and soft.

  35. FYI, the Early Access link has new items again. Absolutely nothing I want. There is a new cut of ballet flats, the Evie. The round toe looks very juvenile, especially with the bow and the exposed elastic. I'm disappointed- I was hoping for either the Cece or the Lottie tassel in some nice, neutral leathers such as navy, camel, or- my fervent-est wish of all wishes- gray. If you're going to go back to rounded toes, the Cece at least is made in Italy and has fantastic support!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Alyssa, I agree with you completely about the Evie. They appear similar to the Factory brand. They did carry an Anya similar to Cece in Gray and it pops up every now and then. I love the 2 colors but I am missing the beloved Cece's. The colors were fabulous and the sole was perfect. I started stockpiling these in my favorite colors when I suspected Jcrew was going to kill the shoe again. I have 20 pair of them (I kid you not)that haven't been worn in addition to another 12 that I do wear and rotate them and continue to stalk websites that might have a few pop up in my size. I mention this only to demonstrate how much I love Cece! There may be an alternative for you a French brand Ballet flat called Repetto, which you can find on sale at times. I am not fond of Jcrew shoes in general as I consider them cheaply constructed. The soles are like pieces of plywood and kill my feet my narrow heeled feet. Jcrew, you killed a good shoe, unbelievable.

      Delete
    2. Alyssa, Just wanted to add that Repetto has a big sale on at the moment 50% off and they have their ballerinas in Gray of all shades. Don't get discouraged if you don't find a size available, they do pop back. Shoe fits beautifully.

      Delete
    3. @Alyssa ITA with Lynn: Repetto is great. I can also recommend Bloch, they have the comfiest ballet flats ever. Comfy like I wore them all day on a hot summer day in NYC, playing tourist, so lots of walking and by the end of the day my feet still didn't feel tired

      Delete
    4. I also recommend Repetto for comfort. I have about 11-12 pairs and basically collect them. I like that the front toe box is not too rounded (sometimes that can look like little girls' shoes) and they don't do the elastic back, which always hurts my feet. However, the soles are quite thin - one of the first things I do when I get a pair is to have my cobbler put on Vibram soles. They wear beautifully and mold to your feet like socks after awhile.

      Delete
    5. I like those flats, and the heel version, but I will have to stop myself.

      Delete
    6. @eeps. Thank you for the Vibram soles reference. Will try a pair. I use a cobbler in Italy that puts red protector sole coverings on my Laboutins for and charges me 7 Euros a pair but these of course offer no support. He also puts them on other shoes because I tend to be a “foot dragger” and they really work. Thanks again

    3. Underwhelmed is in understatement JR totally agree. The French statement tee is ridiculous. The French don't wear anything like this unless they're a tween. The white chambray shirt is too long and I love longer shirts even if you're tall which I am. 41. Order #1 has arrived.
Merino V-neck sweater with drawstring sleeves ivory S - usual sweater size small was awful. Body too wide, sleeves way too short. I have long arms so this was not a complete surprise.
Tall embroidered tie-front tunic Tall XS - I do not generally like a broadcloth/button down type shirt to be collarless so this return is partially on me. Fit was good but I was unhappy with both the tie and the neckline. Back it goes.
Tall tie-front silk top in pebble print Tall 2 - This was so flimsy, the fit was large...I was extremely disappointed and couldn't get it off fast enough.
Dover blazer in Italian wool 2 navy - Great price of $36 so I am debating, but something is off when it's buttoned, and it is due to the design not my body or fit. I'm afraid I'll regret returning this so for now I'll hold on to.
The 2008 Andover peacoat in Italian wool navy 4 - I stalked this for a popback and now I'm wondering if I NEED it. $56.94. However, when the deal of a lifetime literally comes around every day...how much is too much? Do I need another coat? I don't even always wear a coat. I'll hold onto for now.
Easy pant in velvet black 0 - LOVE. I am very happy and like these much more than I expected. When I read the reviews I thought a 0 would be too large. I suppose if I wanted them for dressier occasions I could want to size down to a 00. They will nearly always be worn casually with Chanel flats, sneakers, a button down or a sweater but I like that I'll have them available to pair with black patent stilettos as well. Blue sold out while I was checking out and glad I wound up with the black instead.
Easy pant in lace black 0 - these have not yet shipped, they cannot find a pair but I am fine without them.

I've been trying to use the KonMari method. After the initial happiness of a deal, does the actual piece of clothing bring me joy? Very often the answer is a quite obvious no.

    3. Lynn, I know you're right. And I do appreciate the 100% wool exterior. I am not sure why I am in a cheap mood. I think it is the excess and that it's now mid-January and I'm still shopping dealz dealz dealz.

    6. Bummer about the tie sleeve sweater, I had the same issue - the fit was totally off for me. Keep the Dover blazer! I wear mine unbuttoned, I don't think I've even tried buttoning it. I still need to wear my velvet pants!

So for a few years I've been wearing looser styles but I gained a few lbs and decided maybe tight pants will help me nip it in the bud (and cutting alcohol, sugar, dairy, etc.). I like them. The Small is a little loose for working out but I felt the XS felt too tight right now. I also got the JCrew leggings with the ankle ties and although they're adorable I think I'll use them for yoga and spin but not bootcamp classes. They were so inexpensive, just for hanging out at home they're fine too.

  47. Tip if you want a price adjustment. Take a screen shot. (I think Suz Has has mentioned taking screen shots before.) I used to, but I never seemed to need them so I got lazy. This morning, around 6 AM ET I saw that a couple of items I had just purchased were lower. I emailed for the price adjustment this morning. I got a very polite response at 1 PM that I actually got a better price in my orders. When I go on the website, I see that the prices are higher now than they were this morning. I didn't take screen shots so it would be a futile exercise. Live and learn.

My tall long-sleeve sheath dress in stretch ponte arrived today (it shipped from a store and they overnighted it which was nice!)and I am a fan. I had originally ordered a 6 in the regular length and then saw the tall was a fraction of the price of the regular (this has been the case with a few items). The size 6 works on me but is a little short and just a tad tighter than I'd like. The tall hits right at the top of my knees and the v is not indecent. I'm not a huge fan of the center seam down the front and it definitely needs a skinny belt to finish it off but for less than $30, I'm sold.

Also grabbed the pack green wide leg crepe matte pants this morning so pleased about that!

  49. A little late in the season, but I picked up the Chamonix Tippi w a gift card today in the sale section (gift cards don’t count during a shopping ban). I know it’s old news and I probably won’t wear it til next year but it’s so perfect ... unique, special, well made, looks expensive. In a year of a lot of fast-fashion crap, it gives me hope that J Crew can still turn out special pieces. Early access stuff is not tempting me out of my shopping ban but I do like the round Signet!

In other news, two Minneapolis store closings announced today including Mall of America.

  50. I reached out to Customer Service and they told me that they were closing Southdale and Rosedale locations. No mention of MOA.

    1. Now I see the Star Tribune article.... this makes me sad.

I really hope Jcrew adopts a free shipping/free returns program. Similar to Madewell or Gap.

    4. I'm shocked and sad, too! I would think that MOA would be the last to close. Rents must have something to do with it.

  51. OT but I noticed that the blog has not been updated this week. I know you like to keep a low profile, Alexis and hope everything is ok, hopefully you're just busy! I'm just a bit worried and hoping all is well <3

On another note, the lovely and generous Ina had sent me a 15% off code that I was saving for a beginning of the semester treat. I finally used it on a V neck featherweight cashmere sweater in neon primrose. With the discount it was $20 including tax so well worth giving it a try despite the website not having a picture of the item (I know, I know, J Crew website problems galore!). I sized up to a small because I find that when I wash my cashmere the sleeves shrink and that was the right choice here, there's just enough room for layering so it may run a bit on the small size (for reference, I am an XXS in Jackies, XS in Tippis and size 0 in shirts). The cashmere feels fairly soft (for J Crew quality), hopefully it doesn't pill! I'll report back after I wash it. I remember another JCA got it too and was pleased, so this one is a love for me. Thank you so much Ina for the 15% off, my graduate student/public school educator budget thanks you!
