Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Creaw this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. The fun continues with the new code "EXTRA50." :(

  2. J.Crew mens early access. I'm really liking the Harrington jacket item H6538 and Cotton-nylon hooded jacket item H6537. I shorten the link to make it easier to copy and paste.

    2. Womens early access. The Silk ruffle dress in watercolor floral (item H6295) and Ruffle hi-low silk dress in tropical floral (item H6247) looks like something that I would find at H&M. But I do like the Strapless day-to-night dress (item H6969) because of the classic silhouette and the Tweed swing coat (item H8294).

    3. Really like the color and look of the Bomber jacket in piqué fleece. Just got last season's one in blue and I'm looking forward to wearing it more like a cardigan until it warms up enough to use it as a jacket.

    4. Thanks for the link @morejcrew. I have dropped from the VIP list this year. Need to start making my weekly complaints to get added back on :)

    5. @Jcrewguyincanada Darn, a navy blue would have been nice. I have plenty of outwear that are green already.

  4. well, I seem to have fallen off the VIP list. Fortunately, nothing tempts me - not the teeny-weeny micro bikinis, not the polyester cami, not the synthetic crepe droopy pants and pointless jacket... yawn, going back to bed.

Oh, wait - J.Crew, a word to the wise: the reason many women look smart and put-together in parts of France is not because they wear jeans, it is because their jeans FIT. They can look cool in a simple blazer jacket, not because the jacket is a miracle of cost-cutting assembly, but because the jacket FITS. The striped shirt, which btw is not workwear for anyone with a job in an office or classroom, looks cool because it FITS. All over Paris, Bordeaux, Marseille, Nice, wherever, there are little storefronts and tailors that offer retouches, which means alterations. And probably the reason Parisian women stride confidently over cobblestone alleys and through hazardous road traffic is because their feet do not hurt and they are not afraid of their shoes suddenly expanding and falling off (looking at you, beige & black suede Averys) — because their shoes FIT.

BUT, oh bean-counting wizards of accountancy, clothes that have no hems and no seam allowances cannot be altered to fit, because there is nothing to work with. You know that, but you don’t care. My personal solution to shoulder seams that seem to be showing an evil interest in reaching toward my elbow, is not to buy the ill-fitting garment.

    1. It’s nearly impossible to find a J Crew top with properly set-in sleeves any longer - because that type of garment construction costs money. The merino turtleneck w side slits, for example, has dropped shoulder seams that truly are down to the elbow.

J Crew tries to pass this cost-cutting measure off as athleisure “chic” with weirdly-posed models so you can’t see the big honking, poorly finished seams hitting the fattest part of your upper arm, but the fit is terribly unflattering.

      Delete
    2. Looking at the new arrivals, the silk shirt looks paper thin. The models arms are crossed across the chest to cover that I think. The styling is crazy on the boiled wool wrap jacket. It looks like it might be nice in another context but the way it is pictured, it looks like a hot mess.

      Delete
    3. Ah, that was beautifully well said!

      Delete
    4. Fred's comment has helped me pinpoint what's missing, and it is pride in craftsman(craftperson?)ship. The models don't look proud of what they're wearing, the tailored details are missing so that rather than employing qualified labor/tailors/seamstresses they have sewing machine operators. The "soul" is gone and it is sad.
I sew lots of my clothes, and learning to make things from scratch and alter them has given me so much insight into garment construction that I can recognize all the cost cutting measures employed, and I think J Crew has them all. I feel sad, and told my husband this morning that I feel 2018 is the year they may file for bankruptcy.
PS: I am also no longer a VIP.

  5. The first thing that struck me scrolling through the early access is Zara. The rainbow stappy heels are dead ringers for a pair on Zara, and that isn't the only rather vivid similarity.

  6. Check your email for VIPs shop first with a 25% off individual code for select styles. It probably won’t be valid for anything I am interested in but may take a look and see if it will work with the 15% off coupon that expires today.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If I had not read this comment I would not have realized that the VIP code also included 25% off, because it is so poorly indicated in the e-mail. Thanks!

      Delete
    2. Also, it did not work with my 15% off code, and now I'm so annoyed at myself for holding onto it for so long ...!

      Delete
    3. I received the VIP early access e-mail but it definitely does not have a 25% off code. There's absolutely nothing I want to buy, but I'm still very annoyed, lol.

      Delete
    4. J Crew is making it WAY too hard to shop. The exclusive code idea is unnecessary.

      Delete
    5. @Malvina - You're a strong woman to hold out so long. I only had one 15% coupon and I used it weeks ago.

      Delete
    6. I tried it with my 15% code on a mock checkout and it works for me. Maybe it depends on what you are ordering? I tried it on the striped cardigan.

      Delete
    7. I never get the VIP early access or codes. Is there a sign up for this that is different than just having a J crew card and getting regular emails?

      Delete
    8. @Jeanne it is the same code that is for free shipping on denim orders. I did not realize until I saw the terms at the bottom of the email. If you got that code, try it! Also, I had three codes and used two - was saving the third but couldn't even use it for the past few weeks with the last promos!

And @bythelake I have no idea how it is determined either, I only get the VIP emails on an email associated with an account I don't use anymore. It's very odd!

      Delete
    9. @Malvina - Nope, no terms at the bottom and no mention of free shipping on denim. Apparently I received the red headed step child version of the e-mail.

      Delete
    10. Same here, no 25% off or free shipping mentioned in my early access mail. Is it a special code?

      Delete
    11. I only received email about in store denim promotion. But, when I log into my account the top of the page tells me I have 25% off with my special code. Which I guess I am not receiving? Thanks so much, J Crew!

    12. Good news! I chatted online and this was the response:
"I'm sorry there has been an issue with the emails going out and our IT team is aware of the issue. We'd be happy to honor the code for you. Once you have submitted your order, please email or chat us your order number and we'll apply the 25% off for you."

      Delete
    13. I received the email with no mention of 25% off but when I enter my unique code it applies the discount. Might work for others too.

  7. They just sent a new 15% off coupon yesterday which is good until end of February. Maybe I spent too much this months so I got the coupon...

    1. Why do my million packages never include coupons? I'm feeling unloved, J.Crew.

      Delete
    2. I re-read the email, it says “welcome very glad to meet you”. I am not new customer but I visited my local J crew store which was supposed to be closed last week, and bought something (entered my email in the system). But that store was revived by its headquarter since that day. So maybe it was treated as a new store ( all the old customer data were gone???) and I am the “new” customer???

    3. Canadians don't get them. but we are used to be overlooked.

  8. No early access email for me and no 15% off coupons in the slew of packages I received in January. I am not feeling the love. There is nothing I am interested in but they sure know how to make a loyal customer feel well like I no longer want to be loyal. On a different note I made my returns and it was pleasant. No side eye. Left the store with 2 pairs of boxers totaling $10 for husband and nothing for me.

    1. Sorry it is my fault to let so many jca feel unloved. The 15% off coupon is because I visited my newly opened old store. See above explanation.

      Delete
    2. The 15% off coupon I was referring to was the one placed in an order before Christmas. It seemed to be random and was not in all orders sent. It expires today in case anyone hadn’t used it yet.

      Delete
    3. @sonymom don't feel bad! They have been sending them in packages for the past year or so and it just seems some people get coupons in every package whereas as I have only received two and believe me I received many more packages than two. Just seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

    4. Does anyone Elsie have an extra 15 off coupon you can spare. Thanks all!!!

  10. I did not see the new Liberty print shirt in the early access/new arrivals. The store I visited on Saturday only received one and it wasn't my size. There was a rack next to the register with a sign above saying something like check out our new arrivals. I wonder if this is something new at J Crew as I don't recall seeing this before. The Liberty shirt had a navy background and coral and green floral print. Same print as the Liberty trim on the new Jackie cardigan.

    1. Does anyone have the style number for that shirt?

    2. I think that print is called the Sarah Liberty. It is not online yet, but I've seen the shirt at the Brookfield store. Brookfield is the only location (so far) I know of that has a rack of new arrivals near the register.

    3. Thank you for the info, eeps. Saw the new arrivals rack at the Naperville, IL store on Saturday. The SA told me they only received one shirt, size 12.

  11. I did go this weekend to return two final sale items. I did just ask for a store credit and they were very accomadating. The store was busy and I just did a quick peek at the sale section but honestly just wasn't interested in digging around. I do like the look of the new arrivals/early access as the Parisian asthetic is my jam but as Wellfedfred said it all comes down to fit and fabric.

  12. so i'm able to see the early access items and i see 25% off with your exclusive code but i don't have a code... and i never got an email... :/

there's a couple of things i'd like to order in my bag already (plus a liberty shirt not yet on the site)... when do the new arrivals "officially" pop onto the site? tuesday? i get so confused with the schedule.

    1. See my reply at the top of this post - there was an IT problem with the emails going out - I did chat again, gave my order number and they applied 25% off for the entire order.

    4. Anyone able to share a link to the early access items? TIA

    5. @ Miss JR, try refreshing the need help page. A greyed out chat symbol usually means all the CS agents are busy assisting others. Wait for a few minutes, refresh the page, and see if the bubble turns black. Works for me all the time!

@Amahendra, the second comment on this page by Morejcrew has the links for both men and women.

  13. Unrelated Q: Does anyone recall an old JC wool cardigan with a print of a fireplace (or study), statue busts, a dog and some random critters like a mouse or a squirrel? Something that may come out 2006-2011?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. YES!!! Thank you! My memory isn't great but I was sure it was called Library something, but the only print that came up in searches was the library books print from 2008. I miss these prints.

      Delete
    2. Me too! I watch for these older prints on eBay, but they never come up in larger sizes. It’s funny how I never noticed the little critters in the Toile print before!

      Delete
    3. Here's another suggest. Amazon. I have seen quite a few items from way back and I mean way back whether they're samples which some are identified as but unfortunately many of the items are priced sky high.

      Delete
    4. That print was exquisite. Would it kill them to reprise some of these spectacular prints?

      Delete
    5. ....or come up with some ones along the same lines? Enough with the elephants!

      Delete
    6. Seems to me like both Anthro and J. Crew need to launch "archival" collections, where they reprise their vintage aesthetic. I predict they would all sell out at full price, if their loyal customers are still sticking around.

    7. Those library prints were both so amazing. I cannot understand why they don't bring them back, they were truly beautiful.

  16. I admit I'm really happy nothing from Early Acces excites me at this point. I'm sure more stuff will appear but I'm overshopped. I'm going to try and do a No Shop February after doing Dry January. I didn't think I could do it but it was easy, so I'm hoping no "unnecessary" shopping is easy too.

    1. I’m way over shopped as well and I know other JCAs are feeling it. Would a no-shop Feb group fly here on JCA or would it not be appropriate? I like it here because I know the vibe, and don’t want to go searching around for a new blog group. Any thoughts?

    2. I agree. In general, I buy MUCH less spring/summer clothes. Summer is just too short here in NJ, whereas winter drags and drags (and drags) and I want more options.

I'm glad Dry January worked out so well for you! I quit drinking some time ago so I was curious to see what you thought. I meant to comment on the other page when I originally asked you, sorry about that. :)

    6. I frequently find myself doing a no shop February, which my husband points out is always the shortest month of the year. Hmm...

      Delete
    7. I feel i have overdone it (at madewell) too and need to cool it with the ppback stalking. Cant believe the button back dress from last summer actually shipped lol. Since i am in the south,i can never have enough dresses!

    8. Cherrieintheberry, I replied to your comment re:Dry January a few days ago! Aside from what I wrote (all good things, better sleep, lost weight) I would LIKE to be able to have a glass of wine or a drink on occasion. Once I get started though...it's a challenege to stop at one or two, so I might be better off ONLY drinking with dinner when we go out occasionally as opposed to having a glass here and there. We have an event Friday night and wine/beer is included so I'm not sure how I'll do.

That said, I def need additional support for No Shop February, four weeks..can we do it???

      Delete
    9. I say each day or whenever anyone is thinking about it we make a post and start it with the heading "NO SHOP FEBRUARY SUPPORT NEEDED" so we can respond appropriately.

      Delete
    10. Oh, and Cheritheberry (sorry I mangled your name up there) I am in NJ too and although I shop a little in the summer what I need is pretty minimal. I've been getting a new pair of black shorts each summer. Last summer I also got white linen: skirt, top, pants and black linen pants and maybe one or two other shorts, not much. A bunch of black tanks, a few pairs of sandals. I realize I tend not to wear heels in the summer too often, and we are at softball tournaments half the summer anyway, so what do I actually wear?!

      Delete
    11. I have only purchased basics to replace things I wore out, but I also definitely feel the promo fatigue. the irony is that the new management was trying to no extra percentage off sale as a strategy, and my guess is that it didn't work out (understatement!)
@eeps I cannot commit to no Cookies/Ice Cream February. But I'll have fun trying and failing!

      Delete
    12. If you are serious about No Shop Feb and need reinforcement, you might want to subscribe to simplyworn@nosidebar.com, a lovely new blog dedicated to “slow fashion” ... a priority shift to fewer, better quality items that you love in your closet.

      Delete
    13. Count me in for no-shop February, too. I have more than enough in my closet to see me through spring and even summer. No way I'm giving up my favorite cookies & cream coffee ice cream, though!

      Delete
    14. I would love to do this too. I have tried twice in February (the cycle is strong yearly with the overbuying after the holidays) and I get about a week and fail.

Suz - I cut out drinking for a few months last year and when I went back I now usually only drink on the weekends and not "just because." Every once in a while I get the better of myself.

As for the "no shopping" - I find it hard because I love my local B&M, the sales staff and that's also part of my shopping experience. On the other hand, I would love to do something fun where we all work to shop our closets and share in the fun. I know pockets of people do this on IG and there's always some style challenges going on but a JCA solidarity shop your closet February would be fun :)

Lastly, re: the classics...I agree. I wanted to pick up a blue/white pinstripe button down and nothing to be found at Crew. :( Everything at Banana is ruffled and embellished.

      Delete
    15. Ruffles, that sounds like more than I can really handle because I like new things...but maybe I'll check it out.

Honestly I could make do with 1/4 my closet or less. I just like clothes—and shoes more.

    19. @shopgrrrl I didn't see your post before posting. I would definitely be into doing something on this page or wherever you all deem appropriate.
@Suz, I saw your reply at one point and then couldn't find it - that was my bad. I commend you for being dry the entire month and am confident you will find the balance you are looking for there. As far as NSF, yes we can do it, although as Monica Bonica's husband pointed out, it IS the shortest month of the year. What I hope to accomplish is less frenzied (For lack of a better word) purchasing. The feeling of having to buy, which popbacks definitely encourage. Unlike Anne, I do all my shopping online. I'll need something to keep me busy at work, so any type of messaging board would be a huge help for this shopper. I'd enjoy talking more than clothes, too. Going to check out the site Ruffles posted now. And Sarah J, I am also hoping for a few more popbacks although I hope I don't go out with a bang (I'm looking at you Suz!)

For the record I am wearing an Italian cashmere argyle cardigan ca. Holiday 2007. If that's not shopping your closet...well...I don't know what is!

      Delete
    20. No bang for me! Nothing I want is extra 50 so I'm not getting it,

    21. @cheri this is actually the only social media I do, I’m not on Insta, etc., though I do check it out when JCAs make reference to their posts. I’m glad there are several others here that want to do NSF as well, since I don’t think a true “no shopping” blog would be a good fit for me.
