Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Will visit over the long weekend to pick up an order. Wondering if stores will have more new arrivals than what’s posted online. Will also check out sale section to see if there’s anything worth purchasing even though I’ve had great luck with online selection. I’ve ordered spring and summer items (maxi cross back linen dress, striped cozy beach poncho and paisley cropped pants) during the current sale since discounts are so steep, and I’ll wear the items when weather warms and for vacation.

    1. @mygoddy glad you found some plan-ahead deals! I also bought from the refreshed sale (Elsie ankle tie pumps), and have to pick up an order in store (mockneck tunic sweater and two crewcuts items).

    2. @Sarah J Nice finds! Those shoes are so cute and that sweater is a great price for wool.

    3. Have you tried the shoes on or do you have them? Curious how they wear :)

    4. No, I don’t have them. Admiring from afar. Hope they work for you.

  2. I visited yesterday. I saw the new ballet flats in store and they actually look very sleek and less childlike to me than they do online.
I wanted to try on the velvet easy pant but my size was not available. I did try on the olive green foundry pant (I think it's called 2011 foundry pant) and I just wasn't feeling it, I'm sure they will soften up with wear because they're a nice sturdy cotton canvas but to get the slouchy look I like I'd probably want to size up...anyway...I am kicking myself for not keeping the canvas pants that came out last spring in burnished moss and light blue. They fit me really well. πŸ˜‚ poor me. (Says the girl who rotates her favorite jeans over and over again.)
Sale section was packed but no shoes in my size (thank goodness!) and there were some other sale racks through the store.
I found it a little odd...there were quite a few stylists/associates on the floor but only one register open, so there was a line. I guess I understand the thinking behind that and I wasn't in any rush. Store wasn't crazy but it was a weird time on a Friday. I actually enjoy the people watching and seeing what the employees are wearing.
I also visited Madewell because i wanted to try the slim straight jeans in Yates wash that are now on sale but they weren't in store. Regular length is sold out but tall and taller are available so I ordered a few sizes to try. I like to cuff anyway. I'm really liking black jeans these days.

    1. Oddly enough, just as certain JCrew items don't show up online these jeans weren't showing up either. I had put them on my wishlist so I was able to find them in tall/taller sizes online but otherwise they keep showing up as sold out. I can't imagine these website glitches are good for business.

    2. I was there yesterday after work with my boy to do returns, I looked at the velvet pants to see if they had your size!

    3. Oddly enough, there is a full size run of black online but they don't show up in the sale section! They are marked 62.99. I know that's the sale price before 50% off.

    4. @Suz Has I smiled reading shoes comment. Such great prices on so many nice options. I’ve may have ordered some tooπŸ˜‚!

    5. I keep having to stop myself! It's like we are programmed to want pretty things even if we already have more than enough. I saw these beautiful white ballet flats at bloomies yesterday and I already have a few pairs of white flats...I wanted to slap my own hand!

    6. @Suz, Everlane has a pair of wide leg crops in the "Coming Soon" section -- they remind me of the cropped pants you mentioned returning, but with the front pockets of the Foundry Pants. But with all things Everlane, who knows how they will fit!

      https://www.everlane.com/coming-soon/women

      Delete
    7. That's funny, I was looking at their other crops, but I think the reason I hesitated and the reason I sold both pairs of rayner jeans, etc, is that I really only like that silhouette on myself when I wear some type of a heel. And who knows the JCrew ones might show up again at some point. πŸ˜‚ I liked the slightly longer inseam of the JCrew ones.
Slightly OT, I was reading a mindful/minimalist fashion blog (spaces added so it's easy to copy the link)

      http://www.stylebee.ca

Where she compares the Everlane crops to Kamm crops (which are made in CA maybe and $$$). For $68 instead of $250 or so, she rates the Everlane ones pretty high.

Her blog itself is pretty interesting.

      Delete
    8. Thanks for the share. That was a good comparison between the two pants. I prefer the look of the Kamm on her for sure, and confirms what you mention about a preferred longer inseam on a wide leg. And I agree that silhouette looks best with a heel. Those who can pull it off with a flat are very lucky :)

      Delete
    9. Agreed! I mean almost everything does look better with a heel, but it's nice to have a few pairs of pants you can rock with flats of some kind, and I'm finding a narrower leg works better for me with that.

    10. @Suz I tried the velvet easy pant in store today. The large square pockets really showed in front. The fit wasn't entirely flattering for me in my normal size. If the pockets had been okay I would have tried a size up for a loungy-cool-luxe look.

      Delete
    11. @sarah j, interesting! I don't know that I've seen them with the top part showing (on a body). I have that issue with other elastic type pants.

      Delete
    12. Suz, I should mention I tried the pink. Maybe not an issue with the black. With the lighter color, drapey fabric, and my muscular thighs, it just wasn't a good look. I'm still looking for a pair of looser pants that are flattering. I love the J.CrewxPublic School (insert name) pants but I can't track down my size. Good luck! I thought the velvet option would be cute otherwise.

      Delete
    13. Thanks Sarah, it's so weird, even though they're marked down to 62.99 they are only coming up as 25% off so I decided not to try and deal with it. They're not an urgent need for me and my upper thighs are also on the muscular side (relatively speaking I guess) so some pants are just too tight there even when they're loose above.

      Delete
    14. Thank you for bringing up the pocket thing Sarah. I did not notice this when trying my black pair on, however they are looser and I hope *fingers crossed* loungy-cool looking. I will pull them out again to try on and see if it pertains. Thanks!

  3. Everlane update: Choose What you Pay is back. I ordered my husband a few pairs of the street fleece joggers after the new year. He wasn't crazy about the banded bottom but they fit well, have zip pockets and look much better than his ratty old sweats. I just ordered the coordinating hoodies. The pants actually do look nice enough to wear with a sweater too.

  5. For anyone curious about the new balance zip hoodie, I posted a pic on IG @wearthislikethis.
Sizing is a little small, typical of workout wear like Lululemon. I usually get a 2/4 in tops because my upper back is broad from working out (or maybe that's just the way I am?) and the size Small is fitted, which is how I would expect this to fit.
I'm wearing the ankle tie leggings with it. Colors look different due to the lighting but both are black.

  6. No store visit for me; but I've been having too much luck with pop backs and the 50% off sale. Waiting on three orders from the past week - no judging please.

A pair of Ludlow wool pants in a camel color and a linen shirt in blue plaid. The pants for what's left of winter and the shirt for summer. Both were screaming deals.

A fleece bomber in a pale blue that ended up being 1/4 of the original price. And finally a pair of slim cut pants in the 770 cut in deep burgundy. The color of the pants is definitely a change from my usual rotation of browns, greys and blues.

  7. As I've been looking through the sale section at some items I haven't really seen, I realize how important some type of style guide and more visual online presence is needed.
Take for example the wide leg pant in taffeta in vibrant flame. I know from experience this color is the more orangey red. Reviews are predominately negative but on e person calls it a very bright red. Red has been huge this year, pant suits in particular, and I keep thinking how nice it would be to see it styled in a more sophisticated way, like with the silk tie neck top in the matching color. (I'm thinking. Of a red suit I think I saw. Victoria Beckham. Wearing) But both. Items are final sale. Yes, i can ask a stylist for an exception as I do, but how many times do I have to do that? I checked Pinterest and there has been NOTHING since Sept 17 style guide. Really? WTF.
I can't even comprehend! I know white sneakers are big and it's a cute look, but some of us actually want to wear pretty heels with those 34" inseam pants.

An outfit like that in such a bold color would be something really different for me. I can recreate it in black with what I already own though.

PS, if anyone has seen these wide leg pants in taffeta please report back!

    2. I received an email this morning but it was just a reminder about the Long Weekend 50% sale. This practice also makes me mad. How do they determine who is a VIP? I am a card holder and have been for years. Although my spending has been down as of late, I still purchase something a few times a month. Most of the time it gets returned lately but mainly due to quality, sizing, not as described/pictured which is their fault in the first place. I don't need to place another order anyway. I am guessing this code may be for everyone tomorrow anyway.

      Delete
    3. maybe if you got the puppies yesterday you won’t get a code today?

    1. Thanks for the clarification. I had to get out my readers to find it. Very odd that the extra 60% is not advertised at the top of the email.

      Delete
    2. Is it a single use code? If not, could you share it?

      Delete
    3. It's single use and it's almost hidden in the email. If your email said VIP it's in there. I didn't notice it until I looked a few times.

    4. Now if we could just get some fabulous popbacks! I am not optimistic because usually Sunday and Monday are low popback days.

    5. Update: code does not work. It applies it, but does not take off extra percent on each item.
Code details does not work either. The usual website issues.

    6. Now they owe us good pop backs and extra time to shop.

    1. YIkes! :/ Were these items all rare popbacks?

      Delete
    2. Hi Namora! No, not all all! They were items that would have been shipping in-store vs. from the warehouse, so maybe they took so long to fulfill the order that the items were sold out from the store in the meantime? Or maybe their in-store count was off. But I did order the items (a few pairs of earrings, and a few tops) as soon as they went on sale, so I was surprised they didn't ship. It's not the end of the world to not receive these items, just odd that J. Crew would "reassure" the order would be coming, and so soon, turn around and says, "sorry, we wish we had enough!!".

It just occurred to me that whenever this happens with Banana Republic, they include a 10% off code in their "sorry" email; the code is stackable with all other promos. J. Crew should take a note!

      Delete
    3. @R sorry to hear your items were cancelled. Just wanted to say a few years back I sometimes randomly received a $25 gift card when an item was cancelled. One time a cheap pair of socks that I purchased to get free shipping was cancelled. Needless to say I was happy to get the gift card and not the socks. That was a few years back and knock on wood I haven't had any cancellations.

      Delete
    4. @R, well that’s a bummer! I agree with you that a consolation coupon should be included when orders fail to be fulfilled! Perhaps you will receive a $25 gift card as mentioned by Jess!

      Delete
    5. Jess & Namora, thanks for commiserating :) I didn't realize that J. Crew sent out gift cards in such cases -- that hasn't happened to me in the past, I suppose you have to get lucky! And Jess, I totally agree gift card > socks, hehe :)

  12. CS says early access items will be online on Tuesday, 1/16. There will be a few additions to the preview items from the VIP link. Does this mean there will be free shipping on Tuesday in addition to the 60% off discount?

    A few more reviews:
    Stats: 5’8/120lbs/34b/narrow shoulders/short-waisted

H1181 (fresh peri ) and H1141 (cream/navy stripe) funnelneck sweater in merino wool in XS.
-Composition: 55% wool/30% nylon/15% cashmere. Why does J.Crew refuse to post specific percentages? I lose sleep over this strange behavior.
-Quality: Surprisingly meaty and smooth yarn with zero itch factor. Good quality for the price. Pills a bit more quickly than the ribbed popovers, as I noticed a few pills just after 3 days of wear. Regardless, these two piece along with the ribbed popovers are my favorite purchases from J.Crew from 2017.
-Fit: runs a tad large on me in the shoulders and waist. Funnelneck stands upright and does not show signs of weird droop as mentioned in another review.

H2745 Houndstooth bomber jacket in XS
    - Quality: Just no. Thin and scratchy wool wasted on a good design.
-Fit: TTS and has just enough room for a sweater

H2847 Drapey crepe faux-wrap top in size 4 and 6
-Quality: weighty poly that does not snag from dry hands and hang nails
-Fit: Oh boy. Size 4 is the perfect fit if I stay perfectly ladylike; size 6 allows for impromtpu stretch sessions and exaggerated arm movements. V neck is a bit low for my office environment so an underlayer is a must.

H2691 Embroidered bell-sleeve top in foulard in size 4 and 6
-Quality: thin and somewhat see through, both of which are expected of a cotton/silk composition but of lower quality than similar pieces from high end designers. Might rip easily.
    - Fit: Does run small. Taking off size 4 requires dexerity. And if you are taking it off in front of your SO, he might laugh. Size 6 is just right for a proper lady who does not need arm stretches. Sigh. I am not sure if I want to keep this piece, as I am only 40% prim and proper.

    Hope these reviews help :S

  14. The 60% off promo is on today and Canada is included, but the sale section is tiny (about 340 items but maybe folks in US can see more items as I think US sale section is often a little bigger as there are items that will not ship to Canada). A little disappointing. Although the bright side is that I am not tempted by low prices to buy stuff I don't need :-)

Went to store to do returns this Sunday. More temptation. Lottie tassel flats in suede were $31 Canadian after sale price and additional discount ($140 regular price). Husband rolled his eyes when he saw he come home with 3 pairs.
