JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Two items I keep revisiting online with the sale and 15% coupon burning a hole in my pocket - the peplum vneck sweater and the merino vneck with drawstring sleeves. Do any JCAs have experience with either of these items? Reviews seem across the board.

Any other deals I may have missed at first glance, that are now a great price?

    1. I tried both sweaters - I have the peplum sleeve sweater in burgundy which I liked a lot...wish I had waited to buy since I haven't worn it yet, so I guess that says something. I wanted to like that tie sleeve sweater but it didn't work on me. It is very thin and a small was too small and I felt like I was swimming in the medium. I reviewed both on my blog.

As for other deals...the plaid Sadie cross strap heels are a good deal ($40 after discount) and the star pants are $25 before discount and I've seen a lot of positive posts about those. I know I won't wear them so I'm not caving to a low price! I did try the ruffle front sweatshirt for $12 with the 50% off sale, we'll see if I can pull that off. I also tried the belted striped cross back tee after seeing it on Alexis on IG. I'm also considering the sequin dot Jackie set. Lastly, the 9" cargo toothpick pants are on promo price of $50, so $30 with the discount and are a nice casual pant alternative to jeans.

    2. I'm tempted to get the tartan blazer but I'm just not sure, so even though it's $70ish is it worth it?
I'm also contemplating the Avery tweed pumps in black and white with the bow. Very Chanel inspired. Tempting. And I love the walkable heel height.
      I haven't

    3. I agree with Anne about the star pants too, so cute, but I know I wouldn't get much use out of them.

    4. You are EXTREMELY helpful! As is your blog. It is very well put together and helpful, thank you!!!! I think my long arms will not work in the peplum sleeve sweater and I may go for the tie sleeve if it is in stock tomorrow morning (going to try to pick up an Andover jacket on restock).

The star pant I already own, but the Sadie flats are a great deal I was unaware of so I think I'll try those too! I can't wait to see the ruffle front sweatshirt on you. I noticed more sweatshirts on sale the last time I was in store than what they are showing online.

Suz - I am also tempted to get the blazer. And I got the star pants solely because I can get away with wearing them to my office job. I am on a pants ban besides now. If J Crew shoes fit me better I'd get the Averys. I love anything tweed for the same reason (Chanel).

    5. I just saw the blazer was marked down. So basically I can get the andover coat in red (dune 2nd choice), or the blazer, if either pop back, for the same price. Decisions decisions.

    6. Since none of them were final sale I ordered the tartan blazer in two tall sizes. (Regular not available). I like the length and the extra inch is probably fine for me. I also got the tweed averys and the embellished velvet Mary Janes because I think they will look really good with my metallic pants from Madewell and a bunch of other things. I'm usually a 9 in that type of shoe but an 8.5 in the averys and those were available.

The Andover pea coat looks like a great purchase and lots of fun colors, but the proportions don't usually work for me. (I like a longer coat). Report back if you get any!

    7. Anyone tried the Drakes popover? The black one in cotton? I'm tempted but not sure on sizing. TIA!

    8. Laura, I think there were some comments about this popover in the vent thread this month and the fact that it isn't cotton...unless I'm confusing it with another one.

    9. Hello Anne - hope you are keeping warm! Freezing here. Just double checked the vent thread and it was for the new PJ top. I'm going to go back a bit further though because I could have sworn there was discussion about the popover too.... just can't remember when.

    10. It was in the vent thread a week ago. I saw it at Brookfield over Christmas weekend, and found it is cotton (not silk) and sheerish. I did not try it on so can't speak for size.

    11. Thank you eeps! I'm ok with it being cotton (envisioning it for summer at work actually -- need long sleeves because it's always cold in my office!)-- I'll go check the vent thread from last week.

    12. I ended up wearing and loving the giraffe print cotton one from last summer so hoping this is another win.

    13. I have the merino v-neck with drawstring sleeves in heather violet (beautiful colour, IMO) and I love it. I cannot wear it as the model does, with no top underneath. It's much too low cut on me (I have a fairly short torso), but I wear it with a scoop neck or crewneck top underneath, and I think it looks nice. It's probably one of my favourite J Crew purchases in a while. The wool is nice and fine and no pilling!!! I took my usual J Crew size.

    14. Thank you IslandGirl, I did purchase the ivory in my regular size today. :)
