Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Don't think I'll visit BUT there are a few great deals in the 50% off sale section online, including the Lena Cap toe pumps which I love, for 60.99 and 50% off. That's a crazy good deal, too bad I already own them.
I'm so confused about the rest of the sale section though. There's no additional perfectnage off so items cost more than they did a few weeks ago. And there's SO MUCH new stuff in sale.

    1. I agree! The Lena pumps are beautiful and the price is crazy!! I really wanted to buy them but then didn't pull the trigger because of heel height. Wish they were 3" or lower. I'm afraid it'd be too hard to me to walk in them...

    2. Good to know! They are all out of stock now... Maybe (hopefully) they pop back. What do you think about the sizing?

      Delete
    3. I can't believe they're out of stock! There was basically a full run this morning! I've been an 8.5 in almost all shoes lately and had to take these and the colorblock Mary Janes in a 9. I found the toe box in both to be tight.

      Delete
    4. so upset they lowered them SO much! I bought then when they were 50% off of 169. oh well.

      Delete
    5. @alana Marie it may have been a mistake. There was a full run and last I checked they were off the site.

      Delete
    6. I was suspecting so too.. Seems too good to be true so took a screen shot just in case.

      Delete
    7. Definitely not a mistake. Size 8 popped back today at $60.99 before the 50% off. It's gone after 15 mins though.

  2. Anyone else having checkout problems? I can't get past the J. Crew credit card offer to checkout. Can't close the window and when I go through the process and decline the card, the offer pops back up again. Ugh!

  3. I'm thinking about trying some of Madewell's new arrivals, but I don't usually shop there. Should I wait for a promo? I've gotten so used to the constant promos at J Crew that I'm hesitant to pull the trigger in case it all goes on sale next week. Thanks!

    1. Dianne, Madewell doesn't have nearly the amount of promos that Jcrew does. That said, if you are patient sometimes you can get a great deal. Most of their promos are "spend $200, get x amount off" or a more specific promo (like on denim only for example). Make sure you join their Insider program so you can receive free shipping, monogramming and other benefits. Also, one negative that I mentioned the other day is that they only have a 30 day return policy when it used to be 60 days for online purchases. Hope that helps!

      Delete
    2. Thanks, Lauren, for the very helpful reply! I will definitely join the insider program, and thanks for the warning about the return policy.

    3. I'm not an expert Madewell shopper, but I've noticed that individual items go on sale here and there. A lot of times things seem to go to Final Sale, so it may be worth trying items to see if you like them.

If I can get to the store, I'm thinking of trying the Short-sleeve Sweater Tee, Side-Tie Pullover Sweater, Finch Ballet flat and the Ella Pumps

      Delete
    4. I'm resigned to the fact that waiting for a Madewell promo might mean waiting for a long time. I don't buy a lot there, but when I do it's often full price. I stopped in today and there are some cute new arrivals.

      Delete
    5. Madewell seems to only do additional percentage off sale once a month or so, and at other times they run promos off sweaters or jeans or whisper tees, for example. Also, prices do vary so it helps to check often so you're aware!

      Delete
    6. I have found that Nordstrom online puts some of their Madewell items on clearance occasionally, often when an item is still full price at the store. They have free shipping and returns as well. It may be worth checking them out.

      Delete
    7. Good point, karend! Also, sometimes their are promos going on in-store that are not offered online.

      Delete
  4. Is it only marked items that are addtl 50% off? I was hoping it was 50% off all final sale items. Sort of lame their landing sale page says 50% off final sale and it's only for a few items.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, it seems like their is only an additional 50% off select items and no additional % off the rest of the sale section. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. And it's obvious people aren't really buying without the percent off because the sale section has stayed at about the same number of items since they started this promo.

      Delete
    2. Crappy promotion. I misunderstood the landing page and thought ALL sale was 50% off, final sale. Loaded cart and discovered that actually NONE of the sale items I selected were eligible for any additional discount. BOO!

      Delete
    3. Yup. Same in store too, no additional percent off sale section. And this is the same stuff that has been there for the past month and a half. If people didn't want it then at extra 40% off they're not going to want it now.

      Delete
    4. EXACTLY! The store I visited earlier this week had an entire wall of the wide leg khakis/pants. Seriously an entire wall. Send them to Factory stores or price kill them. So sick of looking at the tired, shopworn items that have not been marked down since Christmas. I imagine the SAs are tired of looking at that stuff, too!

      Delete
    5. That's crazy?! They took the extra percentage off store sale section? I don't think I've seen it lower than an additional 30 or 40% off in ages.

      Delete
    6. I was surprised by no extra % off sale, I don't understand what they're thinking right now. I called a store and they said not much was going on for promos today - just a few random things like 25% off certain bracelets, some knits on promo and a regent blazer promo (this was in Canada).

      Delete
    7. yes! right now there is no extra off sale. literally no one is looking at anything!

  5. These pricing schemes are ridiculous. There are the venue I have stopped patronizing solely because the pricing rigamarole became a waste of time circus. I have been holding out for J Crew to fix this, because I don't want to quit them, but the pricing is not only tacky but exhausting and no fun. Just quote me a decent, consistent price and I'll buy it. The size in stock and promo game is burning me out. Life is too short.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That should have read "there are venues". Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yep. This is a totally lame promo. I had the gorgeous Princess Kate tweed Avery shoes ( in what I think might be my size) in the cart this morning and aborted the transaction when I realized that they were still $210. Sad trombone........

  9. This is a vent. I received a $25 card for something I ordered being out of stock, and received an email from a VPS apologizing. I then ordered a pair of pants thru her and she told me when the card came in to call her and she'd apply it to the new pants. Well..I called, emailed, and now emailed the general mail box and crickets...

    ReplyDelete

    1. Do you think there's any chance that CS can do it if you explained what happened? Wondering whether some of the VPSs have quit or no longer have access to the same emails as before? Hopefully she'll get back to you before the program ends.

      Delete
    2. I'll give it another day or two, then contact CS.

      Delete
    3. Yeah I was going to say I though the program ended? When does it end?

Also is a J.Crew "Stylist" the same as a VPS? I got an email from someone about an order who said he was a stylist and I don't know if that's what they call all their CS now or if he was supposed to be a VPS.

      Delete
    4. Suz Has, it might be an inconvenience but you could go into the store and have them apply the gift card. I have done that before. I hope you hear back from someone before it comes to that though.

      Delete
    5. @Cass a stylist is the new name for SA:)

    6. It's like they read this page...got a response from another VPS who helped me in the past. Now it seems the new email is just STYLIST not very personal stylist...

  10. Just returned a jackie embellished cardigan in sunset gold size small to the town center j crew store in leawood ks. The cardigan bunched up between buttons...for reference i'm 5'6, 118 lbs, 32c, 26 inch waist. Seems to be running small as people are saying. Hope someone can grab it!

  11. I wasn't planning a trip but needed to return a Crewcuts dress that arrived yesterday with no tags, stretched out under the arms and smelly. Clearly worn. I called CS and got the usual generic apology about the experience and the fact that the dress is no longer available in my daughters size. So I had to spend my time and be in convenienced by the need to return it. This is the kind of thing that will bury J Crew if they don't get their sh@& together regarding shipping from stores.

There was no additional % off sale and I watched as two customers wandered by the racks of the same shopworn stuff that's been there for weeks, asked the SA if there was an additional % off! she said no! they shrugged their shoulders and walked out.

Kind of everything J Crew is struggling with in one shopping trip ...

  18. OT, very OT, but can anyone comment on the fit of Coach shoes? There's a pair of loafers I'm eyeing, deeply discounted, but FS. I'm a 9 in most shoes, 9.5 in J.Crew, but have never even tried on a pair of Coach shoes.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have about 7 pairs of coach shoes (boots, flats, pumps, and strappy sandals) and I wear a size 7 across the board in them so I would say they are true to size. I will say one pair of flats in patent leather fit a little snug compared to the same style in regular leather.

For reference, I'm a size 7 in Nike, Sam Edelman, Madewell sandals, Steve Madden, and most brands.

You may want to use the fit predictor on a site such as Bloomingdale's and enter your info to see what size they think you should get in coach shoes.

      Delete
    2. Also, I don't own any j crew shoes so I can't make the comparison.

      Delete
    3. Thank you, Jazmine! I didn't know about the size predictor, so I tried it out and it recommended a 9 for me.

  19. Anything I would even remotely consider is in the cart and I'm not making any decisions until I see a promo, and even then the decision may be Nope. The last time there was a nice promo the website wouldn't let me move anything from wishlist to cart, and the extra time cost me some popbacks. Took a screenshot of the cart to guard against price games. I don't like the idea of self as manipulative shopper, but I'm only playing by the rules they make. And change. And change.

But really, since they are, after all, in the business of selling clothes, shouldn't they be making some more shopper-friendly efforts?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I learned today from a store sales associate that JC will no longer offer add'l % off on their sale(aka clearance) merchandise. It's a new policy, apparently. They hope that by appropriately marking down an item it will negate the need for the add'l % promo. Um, well, so much for those plans to buy some blazers and coats. They are currently not priced at 60-70% off so it's a pass for me. If the SA is correct, we will not be seeing any % off signs in store/online in the sale section.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Along the same theme, I was told that the educator discount will no longer be applied to sale/clearance in my store. I didn't get too worked up about it because I wasn't buying anything for myself and because that policy seems to change with the wind. However, sounds like a trend.

      Delete
    2. Maybe we should start a pool to guess how long the "no % off sale" policy lasts. I give it 3-4 weeks, tops.

      Delete
    3. This is very disappointing if they stick to it. The banner says up to 70% off but the items I want are more like 30%. Even the earrings in my cart that would have been $15 with 50% off a few days ago are now $30. With years of always offering an additional % off sale and almost all other retailers offering a consistent % off I think this will backfire. I will still buy but a lot less.

      Delete
    4. Wow, that is shocking especially since they are trying to save themselves financially. I can understand trying to get away from promo after promo but they aren't in a position to lose sales.
The sale items I was possibly interested in didn't get marked down any further and are far more than a few weeks ago now. I saw the mixed plaid pjs from holiday for $89.99 cdn on sale, that's crazy with no extra discount.
@ruffles, in Canada they haven't allowed me to use the educator discount on sale items for a long time. The U.S. still seemed to allow it. Frustrating how often they change policies.

      Delete
    5. I was also thinking that advertising "up to 70% off" in their banner and online looks worse for them than simply having an extra 30% off sale.

      Delete
    6. well....they just lost me ! I love the promos off sale. only reason i shop there. and believe me it adds up i have spent a fair bit last year.

      Delete
    7. I generally ignore "Up to X% off" sales because you just know that it means only a few items that you probably don't want anyway, and the rest will only be discounted by a much smaller amount.

      Delete
    8. well this is good for me as I spend alot of time checking the sale section when promos are good (online and instore) i will need to find another hobby..

      Delete
    9. Ugh, I don't like this at all.

      Delete
    10. @Unknown, my thoughts exactly! In fact, the last few days the number of times I checked JC site has already reduced greatly! I feel pretty good about it actually. Let's see who can hold out longer, me or them :)

      Delete
    11. This is terrible news. Isn't this what doomed JCPenny?
While I could deal with less constantly shifting promos, the % off sale was something I looked forward to. Unless they actually mark things down in a timely manner I think this will backfire. On the bright side, I will buy less.

      Delete
    12. Thanks for sharing! I agree with the others here - bad move for jcrew. Once you've conditioned your customers to buy with a percent off sale, you're going to have a really tough time convincing them to buy without it. That sale section is going to linger. Even madewell does a percent off sale section (albeit infrequently). I suspect they are moving to model their sales like madewell does. If they want people to buy at FP or very small discount, they are going to have to up their game in quality and really nail it in the style department. It works for madewell because they really seem to know their customer. I hope jcrew can figure it out, but I just don't know...

      Delete
    13. @Mrs. G I second what you said. If they expect me to pay more the quality and style better be there. I just don't see it right now. It is sad as 90% of my wardrobe is from J. Crew but if I went a year without shopping I would still have more then enough to wear. If this is the new model I will save my money and invest in more high quality brands. If they are offering no % off they really need to start with steeper initial markdowns.

      Delete
    14. Isn't the problem really that the merchant is overpriced to begin with? If the move to drop promos was accompanied by more realistic pricing, there would probably not be so much eyerolling. J.Crew didn't invent markdowns, clearances, promos, "special purchases," close-outs - their problem is not that such practices exist, it's that they can't manage them.

      Delete
    15. this is a J Crew intervention. not looking at site if no promos....

      Delete
    16. @wellfedfred I will agree with you on that. It's a game that retailers play where the have a list price, but never intend on selling it at that price because they know by offering it at a "sale" price they are going to play into the psychology of the consumer and get that purchase and perhaps more because "it's on sale."

      Delete
    17. That being said - I'd happily spend $98 dollars on a pair of pants if it was properly lined, didn't have seams coming apart, and didn't have loose threads everywhere. This is exactly the state of my last pair of pants from jcrew and why I won't pay the full price for them.

      Delete
    18. If they were going to take away the extra % off they really should have marked down the leftover winter merch to kill prices. Coats that were $120 last week with the extra percent off are now over $200 and it's almost March. Bad move. Same stuff lingering on store sale racks as well.

      Delete
    19. Agree @cass. If they started this with new stuff and marked the old stuff down to what it was a few weeks ago, I'd be ok with it. But I'm not paying almost double what I would a few weeks back. As a frequent J.Crew shopper, I know what things cost, but I also can't buy everything I like at once!

      Delete
    20. Welp, nothing for me. They're really not going to get me to pay full price for the majority of their offerings. J.Crew current quality is not worth the price they ask. Now I'm going to be spending even less than my new shopping method allowed. Bloomingdales has been making a killing off of me lately.

      Delete
    21. Agree with you Cass and Suz!!

      Delete
    22. I pay what I think stuff at J Crew is worth, and generally that is about 50% off.

The timing of an effort to wean customers off promos scares me just because the hit they will take -at least short term, maybe longer - is not going to help them with the cash flow they need for that re-structured debt coming due soon.

      Delete
    23. @inawonderland5 posted on her IG they haven't been told anything about a change to %off sale.

    25. I just paid full price for the merino sweater-jacket -- my second one -- and glad to do it with the quality of that piece. The site has Tippis for 39.99 and 59.99. . . . I bought some a couple of years ago with the extra percentage promo and didn't remember them being any cheaper than that.

      Delete
    26. This policy seems along the same lines of what they do at Factory, discount prices are as marked with rarely an extra % off. I noticed it yesterday when I was looking through the sale section, although my math skills are terrible, the percentage off seemed for the most part not anywhere near the 50-70% on the banner.

      Delete
    27. Also less need for them to manage codes.

      Delete
    28. @Sarah I keep a clothes diary of what I buy and how much I paid and I can see that bought some Tippis for $17 each last winter! This past December I bought Tippis for $30 in fuchsia and deep copper. Even the star Tippi was $35 during that crazy winter sale they had where everything was 50% off. I think that's the problem with their up and down discounting-customers will remember what they've paid before or what they've seen items go for and refuse to budge, regardless of what it's worth. I'm happy to pay full piece on an item I really love as well (and I have! Just bought the Drake's giraffe top not too long ago) Their constant sales have conditioned us to expect certain pieces though, and I guess that's what they're trying to change.

      Delete
    29. Ugh, auto correct!! My keyboard changes words sometimes, even if I selected the right one. That should have read 'prices'- not pieces.

    6. @Katherine, I didn't realize it but I think that store, the Brookfield Place, IS a concept store, which is why they get stuff ahead of time. My husband works nearby and they've told him the same thing they told you, about how they carry items not yet available to other JCs. I * think* they also told him that the store in Brooklyn is a concept store, but I don't think that's true because I've been to that one a few times and haven't seen any special items.

Anyways, if you or any other JCA is curious for singe sneak peeks, IG user avillasb posted a few items she tried on, including more of the elephant print and that leopard print I was talking about.

@Alana Marie, awesome! I've totally seen your reviews on JC, very helpful! thanks for the extra tips about that store, I really ought to check it out.

Incidentally, I just saw that that Perfect Shirt in Leopard Print is available via Nordstrom, as Percheno mentions below (a handful of new arrivals).

    4. The last two times I asked for a price adjustment in advance, I was told that quantities were limited, and to just buy it at the listed price (no adjustment). I didn't buy anything, because the items, IMO, were not truly worth the asking price.

    5. I would be happy with no additional % off if items get marked down appropriately. The items that were recently final sale do need to adjusted down because we all know what they cost a few days or weeks ago.

    6. @SarahFolz, totally agree. Some of the sale stuff has been sitting around since early last summer -- mark it down one way or the other, but don't expect me to pay more in 2017 for a 2016 blouse! It's clothing, not fine wine.

    8. The company is in a tough position. For a brand (albeit, a mall brand) to be so loved and respected in the retail world to be the subject now of speculations about failure and mockery about over-reliance on constant promotion is tough. It's not sitting well w investors who want a turnaround strategy.

    9. @Ruffles, well-said, that is exactly the situation.

@shopgrrrl, haha, re) the wine quip!

  28. What about the pile of flair jeans that will forever haunt me? There’s gotta be something that can be done with those. These look good, by the way. :)
