  1. In the grand scheme of things this is a petty gripe but I am annoyed not to have received the latest catalog in the mail.

    1. I stopped receiving them about a year ago and I have packages coming to my house almost weekly. I don't get it.

    2. Canada didn't even get this one...

    3. TeriLynn13 - I just received my catalog in the mail on Monday. It arrived really late this month!

    4. I didn't get one either & I have received one regularly for years now. What the heck.

    5. I have the opposite problem. They send them to my house and to my work, which is quite embarrassing. I've had packages shipped to work, so that is why, but its not a good look to have a J. Crew catalog in my work papers.

    6. @Blakemdjohns, if you haven't already, you can call customer service and ask to be taking off their mailing list for your work address. I, too, get all of my packages sent to my job and the one time I received a catalog at work, I contacted them and haven't had issues since. Agree that's it's embarrassing!

  2. Petty Gripe #2 ... Why must the "Freak Out" pricing nonsense continue in the latest Style Guide? J Crew's recent performance should make it obvious that no one is freaking out. It's embarrassing.

    1. I was about to post the same thing....here we go again.

    2. Yeah what is with Freak out Pricing? These prices seem just as overpriced as all their other full priced items...

    3. Ha! I bought the Piper Sunglasses yesterday, but I kinda freaked out at the price. Does that count?

      Delete
    4. Haha, @Roxy, right?? Probably not the kind of freaking out they expected. (I saw the shades on your Insta & agree they are quite cute!) Anyways, agree that the whole 'freak out' angle is tacky and embarrassing.

  3. Petty gripe #3 ;-). Crewcuts: can we have a nice tee shirt without an Eiffel Tower on it or Olive and Izzy? It's become a bit old. Every single tee for the holidays was a reissue of a previous tee or an Olive and Izzy "adventure". My daughter (9 going 10) is growing out of clothes that are too cutesy and I think older girls in general don't like this stuff at all.

    1. Agree! and would love to see more Girls size 16s. Without glitter.

    2. They want you to start buying women's clothes in XXS and XXXS for your girls.

      Delete
    3. Yes! My 11 year old doesn't want a style that suits a two year old. And I'm not paying women's prices for her (although, yes, I'm sure they'd prefer that). And not that women's clothes would suit a tween either.

    4. My daughters are 13, so I went through this a couple of years ago. (Both the sizing and the styling). I have purchased a little bit of women's stuff for them (way on sale) but nothing interests them at JC now. I've migrated to Gap for them mostly. One of my kids is still into the JC boys dept., and size 16 still fits.

  4. That would annoy me @TeriLynn13. I really look forward to getting my guide every month.

OT- I was surprised to see a few new items online this morning. I guess this is a mini roll-out???
Love the beaded neckline on the Tippi, Wool Bow Sweater, Lady Jacket with Liberty Trim.

    1. The Lady Jacket w Liberty Trim is adorable ... Could be my ban-breaker :)

    2. The new Liberty print perfect shirt is definitely on my wish list. Cannot resist the Liberty. The lady jacket just kills me. It's perfection.

      Delete
    3. I love that Liberty trim jacket too!

      Delete
    4. I like the Tippi's neckline but I don't understand the color choices for the sweater itself. I think shades that are within the colors of the beads would have been beautiful as the main color + the stripe.

      Delete
    5. Love the Liberty jacket also, but as it is only 21 1/4" long, this tall girl is pretty much sized out. I get that the style is supposed to be slightly cropped, but in reality, those jackets always end up just looking like I'm a little kid wearing too-small hand-me-downs. So, here's my mini vent of the day: why make a jacket that is already only 21" long in petite but not tall?

      Delete
    6. @Taylor, I saw the Tippi in store this morning and it's really nice (didn't know it was a Tippi), the stripes are nice contrast with the neckline. Maybe a solid color would have been more elegant though.

  5. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, I just had an order a few weeks ago too. Go figure. Someone needs to try and swim with the new off the shoulder gingham swim top, or the one piece. Maybe a dive or two for good measure. I get this is a style thing but I just don't know how this made it through the pitch meeting.

    4. It will give some odd tan lines on the arms even if you don't swim in it!!!

      Delete
    5. Hmmm...how much swimming do you actually do? I don't wear one piece bathing suits (long torso problems) but even when we go to the beach it's very rare I go in the water. It's a pretty suit for lounging around the pool. (In the 90s I specifically remember a wearing a similar off the shoulder suit, minus the ruffle, with a mini skirt as an outfit.)

      Delete
    6. I will admit that I quite like the look of the off-the-shoulder bikini top, not as a swimming piece, but as a lounging by the pool, "dahling could you get me another mojito?" piece (though sadly, I don't have this lifestyle and hence won't be buying the top). But the off-the-shoulder one-piece looks awkward to me, just getting it on and off might prove challenging!

  6. The circle eyelet top has already moved to sale plus extra % off.

  7. (Admittedly) Petty Gripe #4! I wish they hadn't changed the layout/font size of the website, at least on the desktop version. Items look so big that co-workers around me will quickly be able to tell that I'm browsing online. (I zoomed out to shrink the page.) Again, not the worst thing in the world, but it just looks so big. Also, I was trying to read a review and when I scrolled down, the separate photos of the item covered the Review text. (I'm viewing on Firefox.) Anywho!

    1. I am SO completely with you on this TM93!! I don't understand why every retail is suddenly huge, as though they're all working on 35" Mac screens and not understanding that the rest of the world needs to be discreet so they can keep jcrew.com up at work on their second monitor. ;)

It gives me such a headache the way images are too big to fit on my high-resolution laptop monitor now. On the plus side, I guess I can't shop the site as long that way.

      Delete
    2. They borked the mobile version of the site too, since I can't do a quick look at anything anymore like I used to in the sale section.

  9. Hi JCAs - a friendly reminder that now we're back in Final Sale, new markdowns tend to be not FS the first day of their markdown (like the geometric top), but the next day they become FS. This doesn't always happen (sometimes the only thing consistent about JC is their inconsistency), but beware.

    1. Yes, that seems to be the case. The faux leather miniskirt in black got marked down today and my size popped up. So, I decided to order it since it's not final sale.

  10. Working on a phone today - JCAs: are the little bows on the Jackie cardi and shell navy or black? Tiny website just identifies the background as "ivory". Thanks!

    1. Hi wellfedfred, it looks black to me. I agree the background is more "ivory" instead of white.

    2. Almost positive they're black, and this is a huge pet peeve of mine. Sometimes it's almost impossible to tell the diff between the two (even unless you have a true black garment, as some of the navy is really dark) and it drives me crazy because it makes a difference to me!

      Delete
    3. Definitely black. Wore the set yesterday with black suede boots, dark skinny jeans, black chateau

    4. @Suz Has, me too! I've actually turned around and gone home to change when I've caught the mistake too late. Thinking of ordering name tapes -- "black," "navy" and "stupid brown sweater that looks black in the bedroom."

    5. Unknown, that sounds like a terrific outfit!

    6. OK, don't laugh at me, ladies. I bought Huggable Hangers in black and navy. Black sweaters/tops go on the black hangers and navy with navy. It's the only way I can tell the difference some mornings. For pants, I use a silver metallic Sharpie and put a small B or N on the inside waistband. Sometimes I just cannot tell one from the other and the lighting is always poor at 5:00 am!

    7. Those are great ideas @shopalot!!

    8. BTW, navy Huggable Hangers available @ The Container Store. For some reason that color is hard to find.??Got the black HHs at Macy's; Target also sells black. Love them!

    9. I have duplicates of some shoes and boots in both navy and black. My biggest fear is that I will get out the door mismatched with one black boot and one navy.

      Delete
    10. I've done that. I've also unintentionally worn a black jacket with navy pants. This must stop.

      Delete
    11. @shopalot so helpful! I have gotten dressed at home several times thinking something was navy to get to work and see it was black or vice versa. I don't think anyone can tell but me but it really bothers me. These tips will help so much.

    13. My husband can never tell the difference between his black and dark blue socks so I separated them and sewed a tiny piece of blue thread on the inside so when they are folded in a ball he can see the light blue and know the difference.

  12. I received my red leather signet bag today. The strap was tied in a weird knot while in transit, so now it's kinked in several places. So unnecessary. I hope that hanging it stretches the leather back into a normal shape! The red is lovely, though, and I sprung for a monogram on the side tag since it was so cheap.

  13. I popped in this afternoon while doing errands nearby and was thrilled to see most of the new new arrivals, including the Lady Jacket w Liberty Trim. I'm interested in what other JCAs think ... first of all, the fit is quite tight in the shoulders and upper arms in my regular 4, but hugely boxy when I sized up. The fabric is very nubby. The Liberty trim is darling but it is covered w a thin strip of unfinished navy tulle all over the jacket. Not a fan of that. It cheapens it. I guess tulle is having a moment at JC but it doesn't really work for me - the tulle-hem cardi looked like a witch costume on me. Anyway, the idea is fabulous but I'm not sure it's a must-have given the fit and the tulle trim.

I absolutely loved the A-line dress in Vineyard Jacquard - the fabric is gorgeous. A winner.

  14. What does it mean when a pre-order item is sold out? The expected ship date for the Thomas Mason shirt dress isn't until Feb 13th but it's already sold out in most sizes. Do I just wait and hope there will be returns in my size after the 13th?

    1. They'll most likely get more shipments later that aren't showing for the Feb 13 ship date. Often times something supposedly sells out and then a few weeks later its available again in all sizes.
