J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  2. I came across this gem when I was doing some Christmas shopping on the website yesterday: (they are reviewing the Pajama Pant in Plaid Flannel) "I know hate is a strong word, but I hate these. The paltry rise is perhaps 7 inches. You can even see in the pic that the fabric stops right above her, ahem, crack. I'd rather sleep in skintight hip hugger jeans from 2002 than these things. At least those would be warm. Fabric quality does not match price. I really do miss the good flannel pj bottoms J Crew had back in the day. I still have a pair even. Nice pockets and what's that? An ELEVEN inch rise to actually land somewhere near a waist?! How lovely since I'm not usually prepping to pole dance whist wearing flannel pj bottoms and that's all this current pair is good for. I'd be more than happy to mail my old pair back to y'all so you can fashion a decent pair for next year".

    1. Thanks for sharing that one, Lauren! I am loving reading the reviews on the site - some of them are hilarious. Am I the only one that sorts by "lowest rated" to see what people are complaining about? Check out the reviews of the long puffer coat and shiny puffer vest - quite a few are complaining of the wet dog smell. Now I don't feel like I was imagining things! ;)

    2. Ha! That's hilarious, Lauren. I'm glad her review got approved. We'll join her her in mailing back a number of past items they need to take cues from.

    3. Funny! But I tried the flannel PJ pants on and didn't notice any problem with the rise (and I'm not skinny). I didn't buy them because flannel PJs are too warm for me, but I thought they seemed nice enough.

    4. Lauren, thanks, I had to 'like' that review. Silver_lining, how do you sort by lowest rated? Sometimes I do need a good laugh during the day at work.

    5. Never mind, I figured it out. I thought it was at overall site level but it is at the item level. Still funny and obviously not the default view.

  3. I reviewed the collection caged bow pumps, I love them, very comfortable except for the bow fabric, it was some cheap looking elastic ribbon and just did not match up to the shoes. The pumps are gorgeous, I love the mix of navy satin and black suede, but did return. Of course they are sold out now also but if you are interested, look for pop backs.

  4. OT - but I've noticed that the Sophia Webster shoes are not selling nearly as well this season as last. True, I thought the last batch was better, but my view isn't all that relevant since Sophia Webster's are too high and too expensive for me.

  5. The Cashmere V-neck Pocket Sweater (B1640) in hthr orchid is really drab and boring. I think the pockets look out of place. The color isn't nice, it's almost brown.

  6. Here are reviews on 1060 Pairs for the collection cashmere scarf in dot & patent penny loafers. Thumbsup on both.

  7. :: REVIEWS ::

    Texture-stitch sweater: A very, very thick lambswool knit sweater. I wasn't sure what size to order since it says online 'oversize fit'. Ordered the the heather cement in xxs, and heather moss in xs. For reference I am 36B. The xxs fits me perfectly. I didn't want the oversize look. Sadly I returned it because its not practical for SF weather. It's really, really thick, and the fabric is a tad rough and stiff (is that how lambswool is like?). Too bad because I love the way it looks. I'd buy it if it was on deep discount.

    Petite Cambell capri in bi-stretch wool: Ordered the P2 in pinot noir because I was curious about the fit and wanted to compare it to the Maddie. The second I put it on it was instant love. The length is perfect, and wouldn't need hemming. For reference I am 5'0. I've been wanting to buy pants in this color and I'm glad I ordered it. It's straight leg, a little wider than the Maddie, which tapers at the end.

    Madewell - Woolrich white Buffalo plaid vest: Ordered this in red xs, and the grey white in s. I haven't received the grey in s, yet, but after trying on the xs, I say it fits small to TTS. The xs fits me, and a tad snug, I think size s would probably feel better. The vest is not thick and heavy as I had expected, especially when its priced at $150. It's a nice layering piece, but I wouldn't wear it on its own with just a cotton long sleeve, you would need a coat on top of it (for ladies living in the East coast). The wool is not rough, and its pretty nice. What I like is that the fabric is aligned front to back, and doesn't look sloppy (I'm looking at you J.Crew with your buffalo plaid bomber - the sleeves - OMG...sloppy). Overall, a great purchase!

    2. Thanks, silver lining. I purchased the Woolrich vests using the 20% promo Madewell emailed me. I figured 5% is not worth the hassle of returning Madewell/repurchasing Woolrich. At least Madewell has good customer service, and I can easily return the item within 60 days, and I live close to a store. :)

  9. Review here of the drapey top. Poly, but a nice, plain basic for crazy pants.

    Reviews here of the downing tote in colorblock stripe, in warm taupe (personal love), and the calf hair clutch.

  10. I just received the Alpine sweater and I have mixed feelings. The weight is just as I had imagined it, wintery and cozy but not excessively bulky. The look is also that retro-cabin cool that I was hoping it would have. Now, the fit. I ordered an XS which is more or less my regular sweater size and I think it is the right size but it is a bit wide in the body (sleeves are fine). The front panel is much thicker than the back (and a different fabric composition than the back and sleeves, which are 100% wool) and doesn't conform to the body. It is quite wide but not boxy because the ribbed hem covers my butt, so it longer than most JCREW sweaters. Let's say it isn't the most flattering sweater ever (not even a bit sexy). The turtleneck comes up a bit high but because of the color it doesn't give me a cast vibe. It is pretty tight around the neck though and a bit itchy (overall, but on the neck in particular)
    I think it's a really good sweater if you are going for the chalet look, even better if you are really going skiing. Not sure how much I will wear it in the city though, so my decision hasn't been made yet. I will post a Instapic tomorrow.

    1. Ema - I'm waiting for the alpine to show up on the factory side. I hope they correct the fit.

  11. A couple reviews from my box of duds:

    Ribbed cardigan (b6506) - this was originally listed as the “elbow-patch cardigan” but had no patches. I tried my usual S and it fit in the shoulders, but the rest of it ballooned out into a round cocoonish shape (if you hover over the grey swatch, the picture of the actual sweater is pretty accurate in terms of its shape). I felt like Violet Beauregarde after she turns into a blueberry. The knit was thick but I had my suspicions on pilling based on what I’ve seen in store. I wouldn’t even consider this on sale.

    Cabled pom-pom sweatshirt (b6975) - another boxy, roundish cut that made me feel like I had no shape. The sweater panel is part of the sweatshirt, so you can feel the yarn on your front (it’s not like the panel was sewn onto a full sweatshirt). The arms were cut very generous but the body was short and boxy. As with the ribbed cardigan, I don’t think sizing down would help because then it would be too short in length. The cabled panel on the sweatshirt I received had a pull in the knit.

    Double-stripe tee (b6983) - another box with sleeves. When I took it out of the plastic, it looked twice as wide as the item picture. I didn’t realize it had dropped shoulders from the item pic and those are an automatic deal breaker.

    The thing with these clothes lately is that they don’t feel at all feminine. The cuts remind me of when I was in high school/college and did a lot of thrifting and often wore boys’ tee shirts - high necks, boxy shapes, no definition. I’m sure this is a combination of “trend” and cost-cutting I hope the pendulum swings back by next fall.
