Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Ann Taylor has a couple of new shoe arrivals that are extremely similar to some of J. Crew's offerings. The Perfect Suede Pumps in Rose Berry (wishlisted!) is reminiscent of J. Crew's Wild Berry Mona Pumps. The AT Kamela Suede Wedges are similar to the Martina Suede Wedge.

  2. I bought the madewell cardigan with the hearts on the sleeves (the stripes version). It's very lightweight and cotton feeling. It reminds of a Gap cotton cardigan, if that helps. That said, it's adorable. I think it will be a great fall transition piece. If someone is on the fence about it, I'd say get it!

    1. I actually posted pictures recently of this dress on my blog. You can see it here.
As far as the fit, I would say it is tts to slightly snug depending on your bust and/or torso size. I sized up because of my larger bust size and it stays up comfortable without feeling the need to readjust or constantly pull it back up. I don't know how tall you are, but it is midi-length on me at 5'4. I wouldn't alter it either because I think it would ruin the print and lines of the dress. And I want to note that the buttons in the back are loose and might pop off. Overall, I love the dress and I say this as someone who avoids anything strapless. The print is so much fun and there is detailing that makes this dress extremely feminine and flattering. I hope you are able to score one!

    2. Thank u fashiononmymind for your response! You look awesome in the dress!!! I love the way you styled it with the accessories and sandals! Do you mind if I ask what size you're wearing and is that your normal anthro dress size? I hope I'm able to score one too--TIA!

  5. I really like shopping Bodens super sales. At least you have 7 business days to return items. J.Crew needs to do the same.

  6. Nordstrom adding more fitting information to women's clothing items - noticed this with even pre-sale pieces on line. Buyers are providing text and photos to help with sizing and styling - one oversize cashmere sweater has three photos with it to see how it looks in three different sizes for one person, depending on how fitted or slouchy one wants to go. Customer fit and garment questions along with buyer replies also posted. This is all in addition to the posting of customer reviews. Quite helpful!

  7. Land's End is having extra 30% off sale, and there are tons of new markdowns. Some stuff that I wanted but was too cheap to buy is now marked down ridiculously low, and with the 30% off, it's practically stealing. Oh, and free shipping over $50. I got two wool skirts, a ponte dress, two pairs of shoes, a cute printed LEC dress, and two knit skirts, for $160. Win! Unfortunately, some other things I wanted flew out of my cart before I could check out... but there are always popbacks!

    To get the sale:
    Code: DRIFTER
    Pin: 4444

I've noticed that often, I get free shipping when I only have $20 or so in my cart, so even if you only want one item, it's worth a try!

I am sure half of my stuff will not work out but hey, at least it's returnable, and I can just run to Sears to return it. I heart Land's End.

    2. This has been my summer of Lands End Canvas. I have seriously bought so much they should give me free shipping for life.

Their clothes are really well made, I understand the fit now and I've bought pretty much everything for not only me but also my son's girlfriend who had very few clothes. I can be generous when a shirt is $8.00 and a sweater is $10. I've seen their previews for Fall and after my LEC education this summer, I'm looking forward to them (and Boden!).

I'm excited for JC's Fall too but glad to see other retailers stepping up to the plate with good quality.

    1. The Bauble Bar princess bib is much smaller in scale than the J Crew bubble. I prefer the size of the JC, but for those that don't you might like their version.

  9. My Old Navy lightweight sweaters that look like the Tippi with the heart arrived today. I also ordered the camel colored sweater with black polka dots. I *love* both. They are lightweight, great money for value, and very happy looking items. I also like that the heart is symmetrical, and not lopsided like the JCrew heart.

I ordered my sweaters with some kind of special promotion that has since expired. But Old Navy seems to always run some kind of deal, so I imagine you'll be able to get the sweaters for an even better deal than they currently are in the near future.

    1. Unknown, I love my short sleeve polka dot one. Thanks for the review. Now the long sleeve camel is tempting even though I have black w/tan spots by Madewell. Hmm....

  10. Toronto JCAs may be excited to hear that the first ever Ann Taylor store in Canada is opening in the Eaton Centre this fall (3rd level, near the Apple store). They are going to be going head to head with J. Crew a few doors down!

In case anyone missed my post last week, I wrote a post on my blog about a pair of tropical floral print pants I got from Zara (blog post here. Zara's summer sale is still going on - they had some interesting stuff in their summer collection, they are definitely worth checking out.
