JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Hi JCAs, I'd love some suggestion for what to wear with the No. 2 pencil skirt in the garden floral print. Aside from the denim shirt they show it with, I can't think of anything that doesn't look too matchy-matchy in my mind. But, I love the print! Also, does anyone know the B&M price for this skirt?

    1. Here's a polyvore I did with pink and green accents. You could also play off the orange, navy, pinks.

    2. I am so glad you asked- I have the skirt and can't wait to wear it. I have come with 3 different sets- see them all here. I'd be curious to know if you liked any of them.

    3. Here's an OOTD. Scroll down to see the other 2 tops I tried with this skirt. I am also intending to wear it with the Tessa top in purple I got as well.

    4. Rose, you are rocking the skirt- love it with nude sandals.

    5. Slastena, I think I like the pairing with the navy top the best, although the others are great too. I'm curious about your "July 333"- how's that going for you? I've always been intrigued by the idea, but then I think- what would I give up?

    6. I wore it with a green blouse and purple sandals here.

I myself like to go "safe" and pair using colors from the print :)

    7. I wore mine with a ruched sleeveless shell, bubblgum pink cardigan and orange (croc embossed patent leather)peeptoe pumps

  2. Go with a neon pink sweater or tee (denim jacket or white cardi). Orange is also a great pop color. The green or navy would work. When in doubt, go with a bright tee or cardi. It always works.

  3. I'd love to hear suggestions for the colorblock cardigan in navy/pink, especially for shoes!

    1. I think nude, metallic, or navy shoes would look best.

    2. My favorite cardi for sure- I paired it with lots of pink and of course pink Audra sandals. I know it sounds like a lot going on, but it turned out really nice IRL- I have posted pics awhile ago on my blog.

    3. I think that cardigan would look really cute with Kelly green, at least through summer.

  4. Hi guys! I have a bat mitzvah coming up in late August. I plan on wearing the astract leopard Fabiola dress. Would love summer styling ideas on how to wear it for this event. TIA!!

    1. Ha ha Jruby, I feel like I can chime on every post today- which is rare for me, I don't post a lot on Style me. I wore the Fabiola dress to school meet-and-greet and I paired it with black cashmere cardi and black patent pumps to tone down the provocative v-neck. I don't know if you saw that post- but here is the link . You might want to check Dina Gideon's blog ( My Superfluities), she wore it beautifully too.

    2. Love the way you styled it!! May recreate myself. I have most of those items you used except for the belt.

  5. Does anyone know how the Factory Thandie sweater fits? I'm normally a 2 or XS in JC tops. I wear a S in the Jackie though. I don't like super fitted tops. Do the Thandies fit like Jackies? TIA!

    1. I have a few Thandies and love them. I wear my normal sweater size, whereas w/Jackies, I usually size up. HTH

    2. I take the same size as a tippi, the fit me like a tippi.

    3. Tweetle Beetle, the Thandie fits like the Tippi. Here are some pics. (Scroll down).

    4. I find the Thandies to fit a bit big. They are featherweight (noticed this on the shipping label of the last 2 I ordered), so they stretch. I wear a S in the Jackie. The Thandies that I bought are a S, but they fit like a medium to me.

    5. Thanks Jruby18 and sam. I have the merino Tippi in small and it fits perfectly. Since the Thandies weren't offered in xxs, I assumed they weren't generously sized. I got the small. I hope it fits!

    6. Thanks Rose and injanuity. I'm feeling like maybe I should have ordered an XS. Bummer. :(

    7. Tweetle - Maybe it's just me! I just find that as the day goes on, they start to bag out quite a bit (I have an office job, so it's not like I'm moving around a lot). I honestly wish I had ordered an xs.

      Here's Tweed and Toile's review:

    8. Tweetle Beetle - I took S in the merino Tippi and the factory Thandie. Happy w/both. Just remember if you like to wear button downs under sweaters then you may be just fine w/the S. Hope it works out for you :)

    9. I typically wear Sz 0 in J. Crew and the XS fits in the shoulders/chest/arms with a relaxed torso. I reviewed it here.

  8. Yes I called 30 percent still going on in stores.

  9. I know this doesn't fit with today's topic - has anyone seen the jackie cardigans in store in mint? I am looking for a size medium

  10. Reply is broken, but THANK YOU for the suggestions on the colorblock cardi, I'm very excited to wear it! I love the metallic and audra suggestions :)

Also, for the garden floral no 2. pencil skirt, I wore mine with a purple thandie and it went over well :)

    1. I wore my garden floral the same way (though with the purple linen tippi) and a yellow belt.

    2. Great suggestions all on Garden Floral skirt- it can be worn with any color that's in a skirt palette- purples, greens, pinks and corals. With royal paisley one from last year it's my favorite one. I did not get it on 30%off sale, but kept it anyway- that speaks for smth right?

    1. Hey pretty addicted! I meant to also ask you which of the 3 Seattle stores has the best selection for men? :)

      Thanks!

    2. Hey injanuity! My husband likes Bellevue the best because it's spacious and they carry a lot there. He tends to not like the other two, particularly Downtown, because they are too small. It stands to reason that Bellevue would have more of a selection because it's bigger, but I'm not completely sure. That said, I find the SA's Downtown and at UVillage to be more helpful than the ones at Bellevue. I'm sorry I don't have more of a definitive answer, but I hope that helped!

  14. If anyone happens to go the Jcrew Factory store? Are you able to see if they have item #15824 in size 14, they sold out online! :(

Oh, what colors go well with stanton pink shorts and tinsel blue shorts?

  15. Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions with regards to the No 2 pencil skirt in garden floral. Thanks to your fashion inspiration, one will be delivered by "Mr. Brown shorts" (as someone on this blog refers to him as) in a week or so!

  16. I bought the September Sweater (http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/sweaters/crewnecksandboatnecks/PRDOVR~49910/49910.jsp)in indigo last fall and never wore it. It looks like a shapeless sack. I have a boyish body shape, so a belt at the waist doesn't work. I would love help styling this....or maybe I should just give up and sell it? It's an S, but maybe an M would have been a better choice. Thanks.

  17. Does anyone else have the seychelles dress in foulard? I was curious how other people were wearing it and if it would be okay to wear to a barbecue this weekend?

  18. Does anyone own the Mona Suede Pumps in Retro Lemon? If so, what are your favorite ways to style them? Thanks a million in advance!
