Celebrity Edition of J.Crew Spotted {Katie Holmes}

"Thanks!" to Leah, as well as MissKitty (in this post), who let us know about Kate Katie Holmes wearing J.Crew. Over at the DailyMail (click here), the article shows an image of Katie sporting the Tippi Bow Sweater, part of J.Crew's new arrivals for Fall.

Also, "thanks!" to Andrea who "spotted" the Scatter-dot dress (Item 85792; $168.00) on Natalie Morales during an episode of the Today Show. I own this dress and I adore how chic it looks on with such minimal effort on my part.

Love me those polka dots. Can't blame these ladies for feeling the love for them too!

What are your thoughts on the polka-dot craze hitting our favorite retail obsession? Are you a fan of the trend or are you already over them? :)

  1. Was always a stripe. ALWAYS. No polka dots in the closet. My mom insisted I get the scatter dot dress--POLKA LOVE. I'm going to be dotty this fall for sure!!

  2. Taylor: LOL! I love that you are "a stripe"! I bet there are categories that JCAs fall into: a stripe, polk-dot, and ruffles!

  3. I like seeing celebs in clothing us "regular" people can afford and wear.

    1. For some reason when I see celebs wearing jcrew full price it makes me realize I should not be buying the item. Their income is a heck of a lot more than mine!

  4. I am definitely a fan of the changing fads J.Crew surprises us with. I really love the polka dots they are pulling out for the fall! It's so cute! While I am still definitely "a ruffle" girl, and love the feminine embellishments that got me hooked on J.Crew in the first place, I like the polka dots for this fall. I played the Ladybug last year in the play James and the Giant Peach and got attached to the ladybug role, falling in love with anything polka dotted! Today I had an orthodontist appt. and had to pick out a color or design for my palette container I'm getting...I chose the ladybug design! It's red with polka dots... So even my retainer is polka dotted this fall!

BTW, I definitely think J.Crew should feature celebrities in their catalogs. I would LOVE to see Katie Holmes modeling some J.Crew, while Suri would be perfect in the Crewcuts section! :)

    1. Katie did model JCrew a bit, to promote "The Romantics". Fall 2010 maybe? It was a beautifully styled catalog. Josh Duhamel, gorgeous. And of course many years ago the entire Dawsons cast was in the catalog.

    2. I remember the Dawson's Creek catalog, it came out when I was in college, many moons ago.

    3. Oh! How did I not know that?! That's awesome! I save all my catalogs...why don't I have that one?? haha

  5. Erica: Me too! It's also nice to see how the clothes look on a person (as oppose to store mannequin or catalog image). :)

MacKenzie Ross: Too cute about the ladybug retainer from your dentist! :)

  7. The Tippi in large dots is on my radar. Fell in love with it after I tried it on.

  8. Love polka dots and love it even more when Hollywood celebrities wear them too. Make me want that Tippi sweater even MORE!!!!!

  9. Posted this elsewhere, but Gwen Stefani was wearing the cashmere polka dot sweater in grey.

  10. Are both Holmes & daughter in the same climate? One is wearing closed shoes (presumably with socks), jeans, chambray shirt & pullover - and the other one is wearing flip-flops, summer skirt & tank. Who's hot? Who's cold?

I like polka dots, but they have to be small. The bigger the dot, the younger it skews, IMO. Ann Taylor did a fantastic small-polka dot sheath dress in silk a few years back that I still wear regularly.

    1. I frequently wonder this about Katie -- it's VERY warm in NYC right now and yet she's always layered up and covered head to toe. Maybe because they only get whisked from AC to AC, with so little time out in the fresh air? But I had the same thought - merino wool OVER a long-sleeve button-down? In July? Gah!

    2. I'm assuming it's because she goes straight into AC (I too have wondered this since I'm in NYC). Also--people have criticized her legs and her knees so much. I'm wondering if she's trying to dress "better" so her photos post Tom look better. If that makes any sense at all. Or maybe I over-analyze.

    3. What on earth is wrong with her legs and her knees? People are so crazy!

I detect a definite difference in how she dresses since the split. Almost like she was trying to act and look older before and now she feels she can dress in line with her age / lifestyle.

I feel bad for her and for Suri. Divorce is horrible even when it's the right thing to do, and it just is sometimes, esp. for people in toxic relationships. I give her credit for going out as much as she does. Having lived in NYC for years myself, I often wonder what it must look like when they come walking down the sidewalk. I wonder if it's a tidal wave of onlookers or what ....

    4. And who's wet and who's dry? The street is wet, there's a girl under an umbrella in the background, and Suri's in her sleeveless tutu! Another case of Stylist Gone Wild?

    5. I remember that a few years ago TomKat were criticized because of a similar situation where they were wearing cold weather coats while Suri was in a springy dress in Boston in November os something like that. In any case it is true that it has been cool in NYC this weekend but not as cool that you would think of wearing merino. Maybe she was just too excited for her purchase tand wanted to wear it right away, we have all done that. She seems to be a real JCA after all ;-).

  11. I agree that the smaller the dots, the better. I just unearthed my 2007 navy strapless dress with white dots and tulle underskirt. When the dress is turned inside-out, it makes the same pattern that's on the Tippi Bow Sweater. Makes me want to get the sweater and wear it inside-out! ;)

  12. I like dots but don't love them -- I am also more of a stripe (and ruffles, lol).

This particular sweater strikes me as a little bit too little-girly considering my age. I know some of y'all will rock it, but I could never. I would rather have the fierce sssssssnake-print Tippi. :)

  13. Love Katie's outfit from the waist up. But what's with those jeans? Yikes.

  15. I agree cousy, those jeans are pretty dreadful. And too long, even on her tall frame.

    1. Oh my gosh, Kelly, you're so right! Looks like Miss Katie hit up the store super recently. Was googling around and found pics of her and Suri from a few years ago - Katie's hair used to look so cute in a bob! Wish she would cut it off again.

    2. AHH she's at the bagel place right by my office! SO funny!

  18. OT...Alexis, I love the new header. It is so cheery. The hair of the girl in the blue polka dot dress was giving me BAD '80s flashbacks LOL.

  20. Ramona, the sweater is not yet online. The East Coast JCA's have it in their stores. Hopefully more stores will get it soon.
