The following are some recent examples of some top bids being placed on eBay.Alexia (in this post) gave us the heads-up about the Dot Flouncette Blouse being sold for a whopping $399.99 on eBay. Mind you this was originally selling for $98 and went on ultra-sale for around $30. Best part? Alexia reached out to the Seller to ask if there was a typo to find out there was not. Yikes!
"Thanks!" to Liz, as well as Cuckoo (in this post), who let us know that a Bella Jacket in Navy recently sold on eBay (click here) for an incredible price of $405! There was also a Bella Jacket in Grey that sold for $350 (click here). The retail price was far less just a few years ago, just a mere $198 in J.Crew stores.

On a bright note, it does show how timeless J.Crew items are.
Are you surprised by how much certain items are going for on eBay? Please share your thoughts on this topic!

I agree that JCrew items are timeless! I have certainly bought plenty of JCrew on ebay in my time, things I missed, but the biggest price tag was for the library dress. Totally worth it!
ReplyDeleteI'm always on the lookout for a couple of old J.Crew items on ebay but I wouldn't pay $400 for a Bella. I'm fine to pay more than retail for a really great item but I think that was a bit steep.
ReplyDeleteI recently sold a designer bag at a fairly low BIN price. The buyer has it listed now at a higher price and has copied my *exact* listing description as well as a few of the photos. I need to start using watermarks on my photos.

ReplyDeletexoxo that is crummy!!!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest J Crew ebay splurge was the cashmere argyle maxi skirt, it was NWT and still under the original retail price AND totally worth every penny!
I do agree that some of the old J Crew pieces are timeless and I do look for those items on ebay but I wouldn't pay $400 for a Bella especially if it was a factory item!
lisabfashion, good point, I recall that particular Bella was a factory item.
ReplyDeleteI don't begrudge the ebay seller trying to make a buck on reselling a bag but I went back and reviewed the listing and she neglected to mention the small pen mark and another small mark that I couldn't identify. They are visible in the photos if you look closely - that is how I was certain it was the same bag - but if you don't know where to look you would only see them once you had the bag in your hands. I guess that is what feedback is for!
xoxo, you can actually report that person to EBay, since it seems like they're violating EBay's listing policies. I think that you just go to the customer support page.
ReplyDeleteLauren PhD, I looked through the policy and don't see anything about copying photos or listings. It's not a huge deal, I wanted to sell the bag anyway so she can do what she likes with it. I just found it a surprise to see the copied listing and photos. I don't think my listings are good enough to be copied. LOL
ReplyDeleteHere's another J. Crew item price that makes me wonder whether there was a typo: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-J-CREW-100-Silk-Vintage-Driving-Scarf-Wrap-Modern-Red-JCREW-/300625564251?pt=US_Scarves_Wraps&var=&hash=item8bb46c3bb3
ReplyDeleteWhen you include the $9 shipping, this is $400 for a scarf. A SCARF. You can get Hermes scarves for less.
size 0 Black Herringhbone retail Bella on ebay right ow with BIN $110.
ReplyDeleteitem 170736356757. Not my listing but Though somebody here may want it.
Any chance sellers are rigging these sales to encourage future business? Just because you see a completed auction at a certain price does not mean that a seller was actually PAID that amount for it. Sellers know that future buyers search for completed listings when doing their research. I think this scenario is definitely possible!
ReplyDeleteLindsay, that totally makes sense. Any chance that the same seller has several accounts? I think it's interesting that multiple ebay sellers have suddenly decided that any items from the mid 2000s are "vintage".
ReplyDeleteThere is a size 10 black retail Bella on ebay now with BIN of $155.
ReplyDeleteItem number is 180756216917
Not my auction but hope it helps someone.
