JCA Code Exchange {Share/Exchange/Get}

:
"Thanks!" to Donna who came up with a great suggestion to have a dedicated post for JCAs exchanging/ sharing codes. This way it frees up the other posts to be on-topic and makes it much easier for those sharing/ looking for codes, to do just that.

To start this off, I want to give a big "thank you!" to Sonia, who has graciously offered the following five(!) 20% off orders of $150+ codes for Canadian JCAs. (Once used, please leave a note in the comments that the code is taken.) They are:
  1. RAF3G6WCT
  2. RAFFG5GMW
  3. RAFGZPCX9
  4. RAF3DXTHH
  5. RAFZBKURU
Lastly, I also want to say how amazingly generous the JCA community is. It really is lovely to see so many of you (like Sonia), sharing their perks with the rest of us (who may not have received the love from J.Crew).

Do you have a code that you are not using and want to share? Do you have a code you would like to exchange for another? Are you looking for a code? If so, please share in the comments! :)

Happy Halloween! {are you celebrating with J.Crew?}

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!
I love Halloween- one of the best times of the year. Many of us will be out trick-or-treating with the tiniest members of our family, while others will be handing out candy (like myself!) or attending a spooktacular party with friends.

As per usual with the {celebrating with J.Crew?} posts, it might be fun to have a post on what we plan on wearing today. :)

What are you planning to wear this Halloween? Will you be trick-or-treating? Are you planning to go "head to toe" J.Crew or parts J.Crew?

"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

Sneak Peek: J.Crew's Spring 2013 Preview

A big "thanks!" to GigiOfCa {of the delightful Gigi's Gone Shopping blog} who shared the following Instagram photo from the Huffington Post (click here) with us.

The photo features J.Crew's Spring 2013 Preview. I always love seeing what J.Crew has in store for us! Lots of pink, from shocking neon shades to demure pastels.

And do my eyes deceive me... is there a knee-length skirt in the offerings? Why, yes. How lovely!

What are your thoughts on the upcoming Spring 2013 collection from J.Crew? Are you a fan of the color palette?

J.Crew of Seasons Past: {a look in the closet}

It's that time again, to take a look at an image of J.Crew pieces from seasons past! As caribbelle (in this post) so beautifully termed, "ye olde j crew of yore".

This post features a page from the Men's section in J.Crew's Holiday 2007 catalog set in the Highlands. One word to describe it all: gorgeous! The gentleman is so handsome with his entire ensemble. Tip of the hat to him!

What are your thoughts on the look(s)/item(s) from the past? Do you find the look(s)/item(s) classic or do you think they are dated?

Savings and free shipping are applied at checkout with code INSIDER. Offer not valid on phone orders. Cannot be combined with any other promotion or redeemed for cash. Limit one promotional code per order. Details of offer are subject to change.

Quick Note: I just tried this code with a mock checkout and I was unable to use it. Then I re-read the fine print and noticed the "Offer valid on Internet orders shipped outside the 50 United States and Canada only" line. This promotion is for our international JCAs only!

This is the type of promotion we usually do not see too often since it applies to both sale and full priced merchandise. Lovely for all international JCAs to enjoy!

Will you be taking advantage of this promo? Are you loving that it applies to both sale and regular priced merchandise? Did you pick up an item or two? Please share! :)

J.Crew Cardmembers only: shop the latest with 25% off and free shipping

"Thanks!" to JRuby18, JRSConnelly, & Danielle (in this post), Susan (in this post), as well as Andrea & Yvette, who shared some news about an email sent to J.Crew credit card holders.

J.Crew cardholders should be receiving an email for 25% off *and* free shipping (any order! no minimum!) with a unique promo code (one time offer). This offer expires November 11, 2012. It is unclear if you have to use your J.Crew card as payment.

I just want to say, good move on J.Crew's part! It is nice to see such a perk to card holders. Yey for all those with the email!!!

Did you get the card holder email from J.Crew today? If you are not currently a card holder, do you think this promotion will entice you? Please share!

Random Side Note: To all fellow JCAs impacted by Hurricane Sandy, please be safe!

The Great (Weekly) Exchange {looking to sell}

This post (of weekly posts) is for individual members who want to swap/sell/share among yourselves. This post is where you can mention your items and outside listing/ auction site (like eBay and eCrater & the corresponding user ID).

Please note: this posting is not for resellers, retailers or businesses. I have no dealings or interactions with any of the potential communication, listings, or transactions. :) Moreover, please limit comments about items to swap/sell/share to the "Great (Weekly) Exchange" posts. (Refer to "A Quick Note to J.Crew Aficionadas" post.)

Do you have any items you would like to swap/sell/share among yourselves through your outside listing/auction site?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

The Great (Weekly) Exchange {looking to find}

J.Crew Factory: Extra 25% off sitewide

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Silver Lining (in this post), as well as Paula, who shared the following promotion for J.Crew Factory.

J.Crew Factory is offering 25% off on all orders online with promo code MOREPLEASE. This offer expires Tuesday, October 30, 2011. The fine print includes:
*Offer valid at jcrewfactory.com only. Offer not valid at J.Crew stores, jcrew.com or J.Crew Factory stores. Offer valid in the U.S. and Canada only. Savings are applied at checkout with code MOREPLEASE. Offer not valid on phone orders. Limit one promotional code per order. Details of offer are subject to change.
This is the type of promotion we usually do not see too often since it applies to both sale and full priced merchandise. Me likes! :)

I love the new Factory site layout (way more professional and pleasing to shop than the older version). However, I have to echo the comments that many of you have already made: it would be nice if J.Crew could consolidate their regular, Factory, and Madewell sites into one shopping bag like Gap does (for Gap, Banana Republic, etc.).

Will you be taking advantage of this promo? Are you loving the new Factory site from J.Crew? Did you pick up an item or two? Please share! :)

Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

Lucky Posts a Shoe of J.Crew

Lucky (on Tumblr, click here) posted an image of a possible upcoming heel from J.Crew. It looks like a floral print, perhaps from Liberty?

Apparently it was taken "at J.Crew HQ". Does J.Crew have stands of upcoming merchandise on display like a museum? If so, amazing! How does one get a tour? (Could you imagine a group of JCAs, with Mickey as our tour guide?)

JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

Product Review: A Tale of Two Ties

A big "thanks!" to J.Crew Guy In Canada who has graciously offered to continue reviewing Men's items from J.Crew with us. (I am echoing the comments of other JCAs when I say he needs to start his own blog! In the meantime, I will gladly share his great reviews on the JCA.)

In this review, J.Crew Guy In Canada reviews (& compares) J.Crew's Macartney-Stripe Wool-Silk Tie (Item 15037; $69.50) with J.Crew's Factory Stripe Wool Tie (Item 24335; $42.50, now $24.50).
Nobody like a steal of deal more than I do.  Why pay $70 for a tie when it's doubleganger can be had for less than half the price.  A tie is a tie is a tie, right?  Or is it?

Two very similar ties are the Factory stripe wool tie #24335 with a regular price of $42.50, but marked down to $24.50 compared to the Macartney - striped wool/silk tie #15037 for $69.50.  At first glance they both look so very similar that they could almost be the same and with a difference in price of over $40 there must be something different.

And a different there is.  The Factory tie is a wool blend with the fabric definitely lacking.  While many Factory ties in silk or wool are a great value and look very good, this one falls short.  It looks and feels cheap, not very J.Crew, more like J.Phew.  I have several Factory ties, both in wool and silk and I've been very pleased.  They're not as sharp as the regular ones, but close enough especially when sale prices from the Factory site are factored in.  Why buy one for $70 when you can two or three. The Macartney is head and shoulders above its Factory cousin.

The heavier fabric, more solid construction and more expensive look contribute to making this a no brainer.  The Macartney kicks the Factory to the curb.  No need to go cheap on this one and here's an example where you definitely get what you pay for.

Will I still buy the odd Factory tie, possibly.  But the more likely result will be watching the regular site for deals and sales.  Macartney will be getting some play with Ludlow and Bowery.  Gotta love the names J.Crew; an easy way to remember favorites.

"Thanks!" again to J.Crew Guy In Canada for his great review of these two classic pieces!

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's ties for Men? Do you own any of their ties? If so, please share with us your review. :)

Sneak Peek: Madewell Spring 2013

Madewell posted two images of their upcoming Spring 2013 line over at their blog (click here). Lot's of bright hues to make sure the Winter blues go away.

It is always fun to see what items are "around the corner". Although, it is hard to think about wearing pastels (or t-shirts) as the days start to get chilly.

Incidentally, all these items could easily be included with J.Crew's November 2012 catalog color palette. Which makes me sad. Why? Because the November catalog should be filled with rich reds, pine greens, golden yellows, and royal blues. Sigh.

What are your thoughts on Madewell's sneak peek? Are you interested in any of the items? Or is it too early to think about Spring of next year, when Winter of this year is still coming. ;)

Tips {from a J.Crew Personal Stylist}

"Thanks!" to Cate who shared the following post from Babble (click here to check it out in its entirety):
Tips From a J.Crew Personal Stylist
Posted By Mara Kofoed
August 30th, 2012

I’ve had the opportunity to get to know a woman who was a Personal Stylist at J.Crew in New York.  Her name is Marina Dobreva and she is AMAZING.  One of the best I’ve seen.  (See some of her fashion philosophies here.) Have you guys ever used one of those in-house stylists?  I usually have just ignored those services, but one day I got some help from Marina and realized that it really was a great resource.  And then later, Marina actually taught a class I organized for a group of women in Brooklyn … so fun!

Here are some of the helpful fashion tips that Marina taught in that class….
A personal stylist showcases a few looks and explains a few tricks of the trade to update each look. As for the actual tips? Some of the pieces of advice are good like how to roll a sleeve or to work a double belt. Others, are well... interesting.

For example, take the "Add an Oversized Belt" tip. The post shares, "Marina says she never looks for belt sizes anymore...she just grabs the longest one she can find. It gives you options for tucking it in, looping it around each other, etc." In real life, that extra length looks sloppy. It is just dangling out there, like a limp noodle. (Take a look at the belt again, in this photo HERE.) No, I do not think this will work.

While am I looking at this photo, I see the half-tuck look is not going anywhere. (Refer to the "J.Crew Decides {tuck, not to tuck ...how about both}" post for a discussion about this trend.) I am not going to hate on this look completely. I think some people pull this look off quite nicely. I just know I am not one of them.

I also want to point out the stylist's own outfit. The stylist is the one with the Jenna black-rimmed glasses. She probably looks great minus that huge cardigan. Although, she is just following her own advice. The "The Man Sweater" tip shares, "Borrow a cardigan with a masculine shape. Makes outfits look less overdone, less stuffy." My tip? Give it back to the man she borrowed it from. She is a pretty girl with a really nice figure, that cardigan is of no help.

What are your thoughts on the fashion advice shared in the post? Any tips that you agree or disagree with?

J.Crew of Seasons Past: {a look in the closet}

It's that time again, to take a look at an image of J.Crew pieces from seasons past! As caribbelle (in this post) so beautifully termed, "ye olde j crew of yore".

This post features a page from J.Crew's Holiday 2007 catalog set in the Highlands. The whole picture is adorable. Even the dog is stylish... Loves!

What are your thoughts on the look(s)/item(s) from the past? Do you find the look(s)/item(s) classic or do you think they are dated?

Just stopped by b&m today and they have 30% off sale items with new stuff marked down along with the old stuff. There is also a SECRET SALE on in store full price ballet flats-30% off fp. HTH!
Sandra also shares that the secret sale should run until Saturday. This is a pretty nice deal on regular-price ballet flats!

I am also happy to hear that the additional percent off Final Sale, increased from 25% to 30% off in stores. I hope that online will be offering a similar promotion for sale items too. {fingers crossed}

Is your local store carrying an additional percent off the Final Sale section? If so, how much? Is your store offering any other secret sales? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including AD MD (in this post), Alyssa (in this post), as well as GigiOfCa (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, as did the J.Crew Collection (click here).

The latest catalog (click here to view) is not yet available to view. However, the Tokyo catalog is up to browse through.

As for new arrivals... There is one item I think is adorable. This item of course, is the Frenchie Sweater (Item 28415; $98.00). There is something about that pup! However, I have to admit the body of the bulldog looks weird (like a blob). I am hoping the body looks better in person.

Overall, meh. I mean, I am happy to finally see the items with so much buzz around them, like the Toothpick Cord in Ribbon Bow Print (item 22219; $110.00) and the Collection Giant Bow Shift (item 29178; $375.00). (Both pieces by the way are over-the-top. You might be able to get away with wearing them once, for like a Holiday party where the theme is wearing cutesy sweaters and memorable prints, and that is it.)

I am most disappointed in the blazers and outerwear. By now, there should be more awesome pieces in both of those lines. The current offerings are fine, but there is nothing I don't already own (from previous seasons) or desperately want to get. It is just meh.

However, I am still optimistic. Why? Because every time I walk into J.Crew, I see an item that catches my eye. J.Crew still offers the pretty! And I know a new HOLIDAY roll out is just around the corner.

More exciting news! J.Crew is offering free shipping with no minimum with promo code FREESHIP. This amazing offer expires Sunday, October 21, 2012.

Side Note: I wanted to mention that the Sale Section (click here to shop online) had a nice update this morning for Women (1090+ items) and Men (300+). I know there is no additional percent off, but some items got further reduced and with the free shipping ...well it might make it more enticing to shop! ;)

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

The New Girl Hearts J.Crew!

As many of you have noticed and mentioned, Zooey Deschanel's character Jess (on Fox's "New Girl") has been spotted wearing more and more J.Crew lately.

When the show first aired, Jess was wearing a lot of Anthropologie. However, this season she has been turning to our favorite retailer for her clothing needs.

Not going to lie, I love the show and I love her style. (She wears J.Crew very well.)

What are your thoughts on Zooey Deschanel in J.Crew? Do you like how she is styling the pieces? :)

J.Crew Expands Warehouse

There is a post over at the News & Advance (click here to read in its entirety) that shared the following:
J.Crew expansion set to open this month
By Eleanor Kennedy
October 02, 2012

Every time someone orders a dress, polo or pair of pants from J.Crew to be shipped directly to them, that order passes through Lynchburg. And that’s a lot of dresses, polos and pants, given the retailer’s growth over the past few years.

In its second quarter earnings report, J.Crew reported revenues of $525.5 million — a 21 percent increase in revenues over the second quarter of 2011. Direct sales, all of which go through the Lynchburg distribution center, were up 16 percent to $134 million.

This month, J.Crew officially will open a $20 million addition to its Lynchburg distribution center to support that growth, a move the company says will bring 170 full-time jobs to the area.

The New York-based retailer employs more than 1,300 people in Lynchburg. J.Crew is in the midst of its annual seasonal hiring push, planning to bring on several hundred employees for the busy holiday season.

Starting Oct. 15, personnel, product and services will move from the company’s Graves Mill location to the distribution center off Enterprise Drive. The Graves Mill site will remain open and continue to house the clearance store and some storage space. But the space freed up by the 155,000-squared-foot addition will allow the company to process returns in the distribution center, the same place orders are stored, packaged and shipped.

The cavernous new building will serve largely as storage space, a sort of “pantry” for the company’s product, said Tony Brown, senior vice president of global supply chain.

Some work already has started in the new section, where shelves reaching from floor to ceiling hold boxes upon boxes of J.Crew clothing. Employees driving carts select products based on customer orders and send them to another section of the building using a conveyer belt. From there, customer-ordered items are routed to the “pick and pack” room, where clothing pieces are placed on a belt of rotating trays, scanned and dropped into the correct shipping station.

The center handles 100 percent of J.Crew’s direct business, meaning, Brown said, “everything that you get from J.Crew that ships direct comes out of Lynchburg.” Bryan David, executive director of the Region 2000 Economic Development Council, said of J.Crew’s investment in the area: “The company certainly has made a commitment for this facility in Lynchburg.”

Brown said much of J.Crew’s recent growth stems from the company’s push to expand internationally. The retailer now sells its products to 103 countries online. Through a partnership with Lane Crawford, a leading specialty store in Asia, J.Crew products now are available in retail stores in Hong Kong and China. “We’re growing pretty strong, especially internationally,” Brown said.

J.Crew’s relationship with Lynchburg began in 1986 when the company built the first section of the distribution center at the Enterprise Drive location. Since then, the company has expanded that facility three times, building additions in 1989, 1994 and this year.

Brown said building on the existing infrastructure in Lynchburg makes it easy for the company to continue expanding. “Now as we build new infrastructure we’re able to grow more,” he said. And, he said, the “dedicated workforce” in Lynchburg makes the city a great location to support that growth. In planning the new addition, Brown said, the company worked closely with Region 2000 to show its dedication to investing in the community. “We have a long commitment to Lynchburg,” Brown said.

I know the article is less exciting than what J.Crew's next roll out will include, but I still found it pretty interesting! It speaks volumes that J.Crew is expanding their warehouse (a process they have already undertaken three times!)

The line of "floor to ceiling hold boxes upon boxes of J.Crew clothing" sounds a-ma-zing! :)

What are your thoughts on the article? Any points that you found interesting?

J.Crew's November 2012 Catalog {take a quick look!}

A big "thank you!" to Life as a Cat (in this post), of the amazing The J.Crew Archives blog, who is currently scanning the November 2012 catalog. WAHOO! She has also posted a preview of some pages in her "J. Crew November Style Guide catalog preview" post.

Also, HeatherInSearchOf (in this post), gave a very detailed review of the upcoming catalog that just had to be shared:
Just got my November Style Guide...like most things J Crew this year, I'm on board with the accessories/shoes...and not much else. What is up with Easter Egg colors for winter?! Lilac and buttercup yellow everywhere, baby pink as well. Thought process may have been "no one else is doing it..."; there is a reason JCrew! Spring will come in it's due time.

Few highlights, gorgeous nudish pink Edie grand bag, two tone oxblood fuchsia little Edie, the Fair Isle turtleneck in greens is gorgeous to me, but not $650 gorgeous...J Crew is trying to grow up in the fashion world a little too fast. Lest they forget, when high dollar fashionistas wear J Crew they say, "It's J Crew, can you believe it?!" NOT "It's J Crew (dramatic pause)". This is a brand in transition, and they're doing it rather poorly at the moment.

The green ribbon cord toothpicks are sweet and unique, but your bum must be in summer condition or you may end up looking like one of those lumpy plastic Christmas sacks your parents used when they were too lazy to wrap your toys...odd bits poking out in all directions. A print on a toothpick is NOT forgiving! The vivid jade, more foresty if you ask me, pencil in serge is beautiful...but I am a pencil skirt fiend who cannot be stopped; I could be totally biased and wrong on that skirt. I don't know about any of you, but I find tweed hard to pull off without looking like I'm going for granny chic...yet, the lady jacket in corkscrew pinks is quite the stunner. I could always buy it for my gran this X-Mas and admire it from afar.

The hothouse dress is gorgeous, and if it has the right weight to it, could be a nice score for J Crew in their ever quickening race to the top of the fashion ladder. One note, I wish they would add more interest pieces to their special items such as the hot house dress. I'm sure it has a plain back. I'd like to see a nude mesh center panel with invisible zipper detail to spice it up, nothing low cut, just something else to look at other than the print.

I'd love to see some full skirts from them, the Green Tinsel fabric on their no. 2 pencil would do well on a full skirt. Page 32, why does J Crew pretend the chiffon dot top is not see through...better yet, why did they MAKE IT so see through(shakes fist at sky)???

Moving on to the collection pencil skirt in brushed wool, in chartreuse, with a thigh high slit...I like; however, only chartreuse? J Crew, I realize you are striving to be chic, but give us a color option, and pairing it with a brown lady print sweater??...the model is laughing for a reason. Although, I would totally buy that sweater in ivory or red...again only one color option, and that color is an unfortunate shade of dried mud they beneficently call caramel (eyes roll out of head).

I'm not going to lie, I will buy the polka dot sequin top in both colors (champagne and black), completely versatile and festive. The flame floral jacquard skirt in "dried papaya" (cue second eye roll, they roll farther away)...what to say...it's a digital print, an affordable alternative to the pointelle that is making the rounds at D&G right now...but I can't help to think that with a mix of cotton/nylon/silk, the only silk to be found may be in the washing instruction tag...I wouldn't put it past you J Crew!

The moral of the November Style Guide story is this: For winter, J Crew wants you to douse your self in pastel, wear fair isle at every turn, and always, ALWAYS part your hair down the center!
That review was really great! (Had me laughing, like at the shaking fist of fury over the Chiffon Top being see through.) Of course, now I am curious about the catalog even more. Can't wait to get it in the mail (how do some customers get is so quickly???) to see all the new items.

What are your thoughts on the latest catalog? Did you already get a copy? (If so, how?) Do you like the styles displayed on the pages? Anything you love or question? Please share!
