P.S. Who else is happy to see the madras print back at J.Crew!?! {yey!}
What are your thoughts? Has your opinion on the upcoming Summer line changed? Have you received the latest catalog? Are you looking forward to the new arrivals from J.Crew?
Dear J.Crew Aficionadas & Aficionados: Please feel free (and encouraged) to share your thoughts and opinions. :) However, please note that this is still a personal blog. So comments that are considered inappropriate (e.g. obscene, racist, homophobic, personal attacks, rude, and just plain mean) will be removed.
And now back to J.Crew! :)
Mad for madras!! (Looking forward to those neon madras SilverLining found hidden on the site too.)
ReplyDeleteI just looked at these over at Slastena's blog and I'm mildly excited. It's nice to see something new and the stripes are different. Love the look on the cover. Also, I'm sure at $38.00, the Caprese tunic will be popular. The tulle swimwear looks a little 'undergarmentish' to me. I've seen the elastic belt in several photo's so good to finally see it available. Also love the look of the utility/silk dress.
I'm going to the b&m tomorrow to make returns and am looking forward to seeing what else is new.
Thanks for posting!
P.S Can anyone rate the Christiana, DE store before I decide to make a trip there? Thank you.
First thoughts:
ReplyDelete- It's nice to see models smiling for once! Even Mona has her mouth closed and a bit of a smile in that one pic.
- Again, not a fan of the styling - but if the models look somewhat happy to be wearing those getups, I'll let some of it slide.
- Caprese tunic looks great - I'll definitely be purchasing (after reading FFM's review, of course!). Looks like it's cut low with no buttons so it'll have to be worn over something.
- They thing it's a GOOD thing that they made a skirt that looks like a decaying wall?
Thanks to Slastena and Alexis for sharing!
I'll admit it, I was shocked to see madras show up! Our old friend! lol. I don't really see anything I'm wild about, though. I've got just about enough items I love in the pale blossom / mushroom / ivory / gray color palette. As is the case with the last few rollouts, I'm relieved that I don't see anything I absolutely must have.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, I got my order yesterday and I'm not sure what to think of the painter wash jeans I got for $29.99. I thought they were matchsticks, but they're not. The leg is cut fuller. I tried them on in (size 30, the only size that was available -- and a size I haven't been able to fit into for about 5 years!) and the waist gaps at the back. Argh!
I'm going to try again tonight, but they might have to go back. I promised I'd return them if I didn't LOVE them. Didn't get 'the feeling' when I put them on. I'm so disappointed. Booooooooo. :-/
Hi Elaine - are you talking about the ones with the paint on the pockets? I think those are vintage slims (as opposed to matchsticks) - cut bigger up top and slimmer through the leg. They're kind of an odd fit (for me) - I've had to go down at least a size (sometimes 2) in them, and for me they don't seem to work unless they're rolled.
ReplyDeleteReceived the caprese tunic in the mail yesterday - runs HUGE! Definitely returning. The XS fit like a giant sleep shirt, size down for sure ladies.
ReplyDeleteAlso received the neon orange madras shorts and LOVE. The fit is great and I love the pattern.
There was an adorable navy print dress I saw at Easton the other day – I went back to look at it 2 or 3 times, but the top is cut straight across the chest (generally isn't a flattering fit on me). Should've tried on... If the stores are any indication there may be a few things from this rollout I can get excited about. Fingers crossed they start posting the new items around 11:45pm like they did before!
ReplyDeleteHey Summerilla...does the Caprese tunic have any other type of closing other than the tie? any hidden buttons or hook closures? Sorry it didn't work out for you...did it come in xxs?
ReplyDeleteIt's the JUNE catalog, not May. :)
ReplyDeleteNew arrivals are at Fair Oaks now. It didn't seem like too much, but there are a few more tunics, dresses, etc. that I didn't see in the catalog. I'm guessing they'll update the web site tomorrow when the promo ends!
hey Silver, these have paint splattered ALL over them. i have a few pair of the destroyed vintage slims and yes, those are bigger on top than the matchsticks ... i will have to go upstairs and check to see what the tag says on these. they just fit so oddly. i'm sad. i wanted to love them!
ReplyDeleteI have never liked madras... but I love the ruffle swim shorts. Those are so retro... I already have the rose vines romper (why did they call it that when it's obviously a bathing suit?) and will definitely be getting these when they go on sale. Too cute.
ReplyDeleteStyling = still awful. And can't the models brush their hair? Ick.
The jeans w/ the paint are JCrew's "vintage slim" fit, which is their version of the "boyfriend" jean that's showing up everywhere this summer (Joe's, 7 for All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, even the Gap has a version) -- they are supposed to be roomy; most of the time you see them styled w/ the cuffs rolled up.
ReplyDeleteI love Madras plaid, but I've never liked patchwork Madras, it's just a little too loud and "look at me! I like preppy things!" for my taste. I do like the Madras shirtdresses and camp shirts at LLBean Signature, though, where it's all one plaid throughout.
The Rockefeller store in NYC has a bunch of new items... Love all the rompers and dresses. The cutest navy and cream striped, silk romper shorts. And they have the black strapless jumpsuit (collection, I think). ADORABLE! Tons of new stuff... wish I could have bought everything, but walked out with the silk, ikat type blazer and some denim drawstring pants!
ReplyDeleteI really like the front cover look...does anyone have the item # for the dress/cover-up?
ReplyDeleteHi FFM - I believe that's the Lemlem Lucy patio dress (28065). It's so you!
ReplyDeleteHahaha...silver_lining, I think you're right. I love it! :) Thanks for the item #. Do you know the price by any chance?
ReplyDeleteI don't recall offhand, but since it's Lemlem I would guess it's probably over $150.
ReplyDeletealways a pleasure to be reminded of how J.Crew aims to please so many (I seem to like the "bad" offering best and wouldn't wear much of the "good") and like the styling well enough. Love the Columbian bag too. Makes me happy though as our most fun shopping go-to will be around for years to come!
ReplyDeleteSearching everywhere for the neon madras IRL mentioned.... SilverLining? Do you have the item number? I do love me some madras!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I like the sandals and also the wedges. (Too pricey to pay full price though.
ReplyDeleteAlso, way off topic: I purchased shorts during one of the promos, but would possibly like to exchange for another color. Would I then be paying full price? (I assume so, just thought I'd ask)
You're probably right silver_lining. Thanks for the item#...I'll call in a bit to see about the price. :)
ReplyDeleteFFM: I remember seeing the dress in the "hidden" items a few days ago...i think it was around $350 :(
ReplyDeleteAppGal: Thanks for the information!
ReplyDeleteHi Chic Chauffer - it's the neon madras short (26067).
ReplyDeleteThe models are so much more adorable when they are smiling-I agree!
ReplyDeleteI actually love the styling on these clips-love the retro ruffle bloomer type swimwear--very feminine; & the modern cut madras pants perfect summer with the right shoe, for sure.
My wish is for JC to keep prices & quality in line so we can buy pieces through the season, and mix & match. I don't understand JC shoes for $325. However the bag, tunic, skirt, a romper underneath....all so cute.
Love the madras, although I'll definitely have to see how these look on a 5' 1.5" gal with some curves! By far my favorite madras item was the strapless dress from a few years back, I wear it all of the time! Excited to see the new rollouts, there are a few pieces that look really nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks Slastena & Alexis for sharing!
silver_lining and AppGal: I just got off the phone with a PS at J.Crew, and she said the Lemlem dress is $200. Unfortunately it's not eligible for any discounts since it's a collaboration piece.
ReplyDeleteThank you both again for your help and information! :)
IRL- The Christiana mall B&M is ok... no sale section at all, so only go if you are looking for new arrivals. SAs are amazing if you do go (ask for Jen), but I still drive up to Brinton Lakes if I want to find markdowns.
ReplyDeleteFFM: Ha...well don't think I was really all that much "help"! I was WAY off! Glad you were able to find out the actual price!
ReplyDeleteKind of like the tulle bikini and the lace up wedges are cute (but not a full priced item). Has anyone received their catalog yet?
ReplyDeleteNew arrivals will be on the site tomorrow, Friday, per my online PS.
ReplyDeleteSheil, if you exchange they will give you the same price. I've done it quite a few times when I've purchased things on promo or with codes.
ReplyDeleteSC: I inquired about the Tulle Swimsuit and here's the information I received: The item 27762 (Tulle Underwire top) comes in sizes 32A-36C and is offered in: buff pink, dusty baltic, and black for $60. Item 27766 (Tulle retro hipster) comes in XS-L and is offered in the same colors for $56.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress on the cover too! Looking forward to seeing it online, hopefully.
ReplyDeleteThank you Slastena and Alexis for sharing the pix. I *LOVE* madras and wear my shorts and skirts all summer long. I'll definitely be buying those capri pants, the zippered leg gives them a sleeker line, which is nice. Love the croquet-stripe top at first look too.
ReplyDeleteCan`t wait for the new arrivals tomorrow.
Thanks Desert Flower!
ReplyDelete@ Devon and IRL-
ReplyDeleteJust went to Christiana on Sunday. They do have a sale section now, but it's small. I love the store's layout, but for as large as it is, there aren't that many clothes. Selection is a bit limited, but they do carry a few collection pieces and swimwear. I scored the purple/ garden watercolor top(sorry, don't know the JC name) there for $40- was a $150 collection piece! And, I found the crystal rock bracelet for $20. There are a few deals to be had, plus the best part is NO TAX! I try to screw MD out of as much sales tax as I can! :-)
Summerilla, did you take pics of the Tunic?
ReplyDeleteThanks
FFM,
ReplyDeleteI saw the gingham shorts in your polyvore. These are part of the new rollout, correct? Would you mind telling me the price on these? Also, has anyone tried on the Gingham jacket. I am such a sucker for Navy gingham. I have been looking at the jacket on the website, but have yet to see any reviews.
Leader Girl
Hi Leader Girl! The Gingham Brigitte short is item #25663. When I saved the picture to Polyvore on the weekend it noted them at $50. Kathy purchased the Gingham Blazer and said it's nice but partially lined. You can read her comment here on my post with the gingham shorts. :)
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have a catalogue and can tell me if there is a slub silk pencil skirt? I need an item number to preorder. My instore personal shopper left me a message the there was one going out on the floor tomorrow, sort of a natural silk with flecks of brown. I'd love to preorder today using the code if I can get an item number (provided it's not retail only).
ReplyDeletejust at GS Plaza today, 2 pairs of the madras pants left, they are really nice, If you see yr. size in a store, buy them
ReplyDeleteI think Garden State gets things early
Desert Flower -
ReplyDeleteI bought the skirt I think you're talking about yesterday in-store and can check my receipt for the number later this evening if you like. It is a nice neutral, cream with brown flecks. I'm pretty sure it is 21 inches, same as the other recent skirts.
Desert Flower, I tried that skirt in Paramus store last week and I loved it. It is a shorter pencil (I think 21"). Do you think it can be pre-ordered with a code? I don't have a catalogue unfortunately. If you get the item number please share I would like to order as well.
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteI don't know where to put this.
This Kohl's sweater is very similar to the popular Lombardi Cardigan. I don't know what the quality is like. Maybe check your local stores for more sizes.

My PS sent me pictures of the Caprese Tunic and I'm glad it comes in solid colors too! I just did a preorder for them and the wonderful thing about preorders are that you get free shipping as well as your student/educator discount!
ReplyDeleteHere's a polyvore with the colors offered just in case you're interested:
http://www.polyvore.com/caprese_tunic/set?id=18910458
Question to all of you that have preordered: Have you done this recently (like, a previous rollout) and received the items without incident? I remember quite a while back JC was losing preorders, or never putting them in, or whatever, and was just curious if this had since been resolved.
ReplyDeleteAshley, thanks for posting the solid caprese tunics. I like the solids better than the stripe. Is the solid tunic also $38?
ReplyDeleteI must get a personal shopper if they offer free shipping plus the educator discount. To get an online PS, do I just email erica@jcrew.com requesting one?
Those who have seen the madras capris in store, are there zipper pockets on the back as well? Any comments on the fit?
ReplyDeleteTIA
silver_lining: The past several times I have done pre-sales they have been fine. I go through my online PS though. She wasn't in today, so I placed a pre-sale order for a swimsuit and the knotted starfish dress with another PS. The pre-sales get keyed in (unless they aren't expected until June like the starfish dress) when the items go online, but if ordered today they are input with the 20% off promotion tomorrow. I would suggest speaking to a PS and not one of the CSRs though. HTH! Feel free to email me if you have any other questions. :)
ReplyDeleteMDPA- Yes you can just email Erica or call the phone number. It's very handy to have one put in orders for you or get exact measures on the dot. Some online ps's even recommend how to style outfits too. But just to clarify you only get both discounts on pre-order items. I like using my ps to put in orders with my student discount instead of waiting for a credit back to my card. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Ashley! I appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the madras items. So glad it is back.
ReplyDeleteI stopped in the Madison Ave. b&m tonight, and purchased the madras capris ($88), without trying them on... didn't have time. As soon as I got home I put them on. They are city fit, and I purchased my normal size 2. They fit like other city fit capris, I would say tts. There are zippers on the bottom, as well as the top (if you unzip they are pockets) and the backside (also pockets if you unzip). While I liked the fit, I did not like how the print made me look bigger than I am.... I had a feeling this might be the case. I am 5' 1.5" with some curves, the print was just too much for me. Also, rather than being cropped on me, they were right to my ankles. These will be going back. I did pick up the catalog, though, and spied a pair of madras boyfriend shorts in a hunter/purple print, catalog/jc.com only. They are city fit, 7.5" inseam, and look darling! I will be ordering these for sure. I saw the neon madras shorts at the b&m, those were a pass for me. They are city fit, and 4.5" inseam.
ReplyDeleteOh, the madras capri is the same print as the button down, it's called seaside madras. I own the button down, love love love. I sized down one on this.
ReplyDeleteLeader Girl, the Charleston b&m had the gingham shorts as of last Saturday - they are super cute. $49.50 if I remember correctly. They come in both the brighter navy and a bright orange/coral.
ReplyDeleteMy online PS found the skirt I was referring to and placed a pre order using the 20% off summer code :)
ReplyDeleteFYI, Ema has IRL photos of new and recent arrivals.

ReplyDeleteMy online PS told me on Tuesday that new arrivals would be out online on Friday.
ReplyDeleteI like to look and make a wish list but never preorder or order new items right away. The sales come fast and furious and even some additional %'s off have been making it to many items. So best to hold out:)
I now know how the Apple fanboys feel waiting in line for the release of a new product.
ReplyDeleteThanks Math Teacher,
ReplyDeleteI may stop in tomorrow.
Old news now, but irl pics of the sweeping ruffles top in this post.
ReplyDeleteThanks Devon and JBird! I never made it out of the house so maybe I'll get there next week.
