J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, Desert Flower, & Irina, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} Although the J.Crew Collection (click here) displays the same new arrivals for Summer from last time.

J.Crew has also provided the latest catalog online (click here to view). The Men's catalog for June is available too. As for the new arrivals...

What I am feeling. I am head over heels for all the madras and gingham in the catalog! In particular, I love the Gingham Schoolboy Blazer (Item 27098; $148.00). I think it such a great jacket for the summer.

Definitely Questioning. I do not like the stripes on the Spritzer-Stripe Satchel (Item 27961; $278.00) at all. J.Crew describes the stripes as "webbed cloth panel with fun stripes in splashy summer shades. Think of it as our quirky take on nautical." The stripes is what kills the bag for me-- it makes it look like a duffel bag I used to carry in junior high to swim class.

In general. I am "over" the art-tees with random paint spots that look like flowers but aren't really. Moreover, is it just me, or does it appear to be an overabundance of mini-skirts? Don't get me wrong I like mini-skirts, just not on me. I recall back-in-the-day, when J.Crew would carry additional lengths besides the mini (let's say for example, knee-length). ;)

J.Crew is also offering 20% off & free shipping on all Men's & Women's Swimwear. This offer is automatically applied (no code needed) and expires 5/31/10. The fine print reads:
Prices as marked. Offer valid at J.Crew stores and jcrew.com only and cannot be redeemed for cash or applied to previous purchases. Offer valid through Sunday, May 23, 2010, 11:59pm ET on Internet orders shipped via regular shipping (4 to 7 business days). Free shipping applies only to online orders of men's and women's swim. Free ground shipping on men's and women's swim is applied automatically at checkout. Offer not valid on phone orders.
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. Can't get past the front page. GRRRrrrrr.

  2. Mine isn't updated yet! Weird.

OT but has anyone seen the Switzel swiss dot cami IRL? I'd love a pic or at least an overview on fit.

  3. OK, the site is updated for me now. Not really exciting because I'd already seen most of the stuff in store already, and in the catalog ... I was hoping they'd add more stuff to the sale section.

    My thoughts so far:
I do like the Breakers shirt, which IS in store despite saying online only (if I hear the phrase "borrowed from the boys" one time I am going to SCREAM); I wish the madras came in more color options. I do like the gingham shorts but will not be purchasing... I have more J.Crew shorts than I can wear already! Also, a little embarrassed to admit this because I'm sure it's not going to be a very popular item, but I will have to try on the ruffled shirtdress!

    Bedtime!

  4. I was really wishing for that stripped vneck raj dress which still hasn't hit however the same print in the skirt is there. grrrr

  5. So disappointed in the color choices for the madras. I have always loved JCrew madras and own a ton. The colors just seem so dull and unappealing to me. I will have to shop LLBean for my madras fix. I already bought both totes from them in the blue tones and pink tones and had them monogrammed free:)

Disappointed in the skirt lengths. JCrew used to have the nicest skirts and I would get so excited and buy at least one or two (or three) as well as their dresses. The styles just don't appeal to me either. I am 5'10"...common lets get real hear on skirt length. Teeny bopper I am not.

I do like the ginham blazer a lot too, Alexis:) Will definitely pick up one if it makes it to a good sale:)

I also like the cotton caprese tunic esp. the price and colors but not sure if it is sheer or a shapeless sack possibly. Would love to see this on somebody if they happen to try it on at a store. Store is not close to me and won't make it until early June again.

  6. I wanted the white peasant top that I saw on Ema's blog. But it isn't online. Maybe it will be online soon. Otherwise I'm disappointed again. Lots of things I will forget about before they go on sale.

  7. Site just had a nice update at 1:30 a.m.

  8. Great article on Madewell is here

And they are opening online shop (this time for sure I hope)

  9. Sale got updated too, I just ordered the rosebud wool pencil skirt, but unfortunately was about 7 seconds too slow for the metallic tweed bag. I have no idea why I'm ordering all these fall fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I am not impressed. The one thing I want to know about is the skirt pictured with the Tissue bows folded tank...but it's not listed yet. Can anyone please tell me how I get info on products before they are released? Thank you!

  11. I bought the Leopard pencil skirt today and I'm super happy with it.

  12. wish there was a free shipping code...

  13. The Oak Tweed & Wildcat Ombre Pencil Skirt are calling my name and I do wish the Candy Wrap mini was a pencil skirt. I love the Lemlem Lucy Patio Dress as well.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ok, it's stupid dear ( I pay UK tax too) but I have to order the candy wrap mini or I'll never sleep this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 20% and free shipping on swim wear! I love these codes!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I guess its not really a code. I love these sales!

  18. What's up with the "back by popular demand" section? I get some of the (like the space-dyed cardigan, which was also available last summer) but not the luxe terry un-sweatpant. When were we clamoring for those? c

  19. Why o why am I totally atracted to the denim vest? Too cute. And of course the gingham!! Love it. As some said on FFM's blog, wouldn't it be great for them to make a cute gingham pencil skirt!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Alexis, I had the same thoughts about the 'spritzer-stripe' on the bags. Maybe on the tote but it seems too sporty to be on the bags.

They took the floral antibes skirt off the site today. There can't be limitations on the number of items they're able to load (or do they?).

Also, there are some dresses in the swimwear section of the sale site. You get free shipping since they're in the swim section. I ordered the Saturday Twist dress in Moroccan Spice. This is my second attempt at this dress in a different color. I can't remember why I didn't keep it.

  21. Molly, I have the Switzel swiss dot cami.... For example, I normally take a 2 or a 4 in a button up top, to avoid any popping buttons {wink}. I usually can buy a 2 or a 0 in their camis though, and got a 0 in the Switzel. I can even wear it over a gray tee comfortable with the zero... (and btw, this looks super cute!)

    Hope this helps!

and ps! love the new items. For some reason, I bought the seaside madras shirt when it appeared in-store.....it is absolutely FABULOUS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. There was another update as well this morning with a few more things added since last night.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Weirdly the striped Marin dress isin the lounge section (in cae someone was looking for it under the dresses section).
I love the madras pant, but would have preferred without the zippers.
The ikat pencil skirt is absolutely fabulous.
I have tried many of the new arrivals yesterday and uploaded pics on my blog if anyone is interested.
    Have a good one!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I apologize for the typos. I meant "the striped Marin dress is in the lounge section (in case someone was looking for it under the dresses section)."

    ReplyDelete
  25. I was hoping for the red suckered shirt, but it isn't there. I may have to order it from Net-a-porter.

I do want the new open merino cardi.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Alexis, I am with you on the skirt lengths. I am in love with the daisy day skirt but could never wear it because of its length. Now, if it were a full, a-line, knee-length skirt, I would have bought it 20 minutes ago when I first saw it! :)

Here's what I put into my shopping cart immediately after seeing: the Ikat dot pencil skirt, cotton hammock dress, sequin stripe boatneck tee, and the madras shirt. I am very happy to see that they haven't abandoned the preppy roots altogether with the appearance gingham and madras.

  27. Genny: Summerilla posted pics last night of the Caprese tunic. It runs HUGE.

    ReplyDelete
  28. AppGal,
Thanks. I just looked at her picturs. Saved me a return. What a shapeless sack...I kind of wondered! I am going to email CS for measurements just in case b/c I am not a size 0 or 2.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I will echo some of you on the skirt lengths. My DH joked when he heard me complaining that it's probably just a way for them to save money on fabric. I'm with audreybella, I would have loved the candy stripe in a pencil skirt. I adore the oak tweed and ikat dot fabrics. I think I may like the canterbury belles dress, too.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Does anyone know if the Ikat dot pencil skirt is 100% silk? I hate that sometimes they don't put material info on their descriptions (unless I'm missing it).

    ReplyDelete
  31. Boo, I tried to add some sale swim to my cart and it isn't coming up as sale-priced. Arrggghh.

    ReplyDelete
  32. AppGal, the ikat dot does say silk. I don't think it's a blend. I'm looking at that one, too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am IN LOVE with the neon madras shorts and the gingham blazer. However, I am so disappointed that the dress (striped, short, a-line) that's been featured in all kinds of magazines isn't on the rollout. Did I miss it somewhere?

I completely agree with everyone on the skirt lengths. They'd get a lot more of my business if I could wear some of those shorter skirts to work, but this teacher isn't about to get fired for severely breaking the dress code! And give me something other than paint-splashed, ribbon tissue shirts, please. I've had enough.

As far as the "back by popular demand" section goes, here's my opinion: It's the crew's way of prolonging an item's sell-ability without having to put it on sale.

Overall, I'm a little disappointed and slightly frustrated with the new arrivals. Hopefully my trip to the B&M this weekend will restore my faith.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Total agreement: the skirt lengths are a problem. I have reviewed the Linen Charter today on my blog and it was very short as well as being "incredibly" UNflattering. Ah, well.
LOL Tabitha, I guess you'd better order that skirt or lie awake thinking on it all weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Actually, I am not a fan of the daisy day skirt. LOL fabric or not, that looks just like my sewing project from 8th grade home ec. Too much money for an overly short elastic waist skirt.

    ReplyDelete
  36. DaniBP - thanks for the laugh w/the photo of the butt-hump skirt!

Elaine - I think the swimwear sale is 'prices as marked'.

    ReplyDelete
  37. In LURVE with Wayuu Mochila bag, the Lemlem Nika wrap, and the Fade-out Sailor tee in Gold!

Still want a Hockney Satchel in Orchid in the WORST WAY.

Genny - I hear ya! I'm 5'9" and would love to see a skirt length over 24". I used to have a gorgeous black pencil skirt from Crew with a 26" length. Why I gave it away is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm loving pretty much all the new pencil skirts. I'm not as tall as some ladies here and even I can't pull off those short minis...LOL with kids. ;-P

I'm like the Madras shirt, Stripe sequin boatneck tee, don't like the faded-out sailor tee and some new heels but with price being over $200 I'll have to wait for a fantastic sale.

Does anyone know if the Starfish Dress came out online? Can't find it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sometimes it takes me a while to warm up to the new stuff, but I am just not feeling it at all today. The new stuff is making me feel very oooold . . .

    ReplyDelete
  40. Am I the only one who things the random offerings of madras and gingham seem totally halfhearted? I mean... zippers on madras pants? How many people is that going to work for? I feel like J.Crew is trying to throw a bone to those of its customers who are losing interest in their current, trendy, low quality offerings. It isn't working, for me anyway.

The only thing I am interested in from the new arrivals is swimwear... which at $50 for just the bottoms, I cannot afford.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I bought the new madras and gingham pieces, they should be fun.

Curious about the oak tweed pencil skirt, the fabric looks like a heavier version of the contrast pencil skirt, which I have and totally love. The oak tweed looks a little more business and a little less special occasion.

Not a lot else that got me excited.

    ReplyDelete
  42. jcrewphd: The Starfish dress isn't going to be online until June...at least that's when the pre-sale orders are supposed to ship.

I received the sequin boatneck in black last night and was very disappointed...it's going back today. Definitely not worth the price, IMO, and I even received the 20% discount on it, too. The Caprese tunic is definitely oversized, so size down if you can. I'm returning the Ivory color but keeping the Shale for now until I have a chance to style it some different ways and see if it'll possibly work out.

  43. Apart from the gold fade-out sailor T, most of what I like are accessories. Love the LemLem Lucy wrap, the Angela Adams totes and the Sardinia espadrilles.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thank you, FFM!
I should have pre-ordered it last night before 20% ended...but alas I went to be early. ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ack! Just found a popback Neapolitan pencil skirt in my size and (hopefully) snagged it! Yay! There was still a size 6 left last I looked. No new arrivals for me...

  46. OT - I have an L.L.Bean $10 promotional gift card that expires May 25, which I will not be using. I'd like to pass it along to someone who can. I will provide the number and PIN for use online to the first person who emails. I'm in Canada and Monday is a holiday so there's no way I could mail it out to anyone in time to use in store.

  47. I just got the oak tweed pencil skirt and wore it yesterday (posted to my blog). It's not too thick and I found it to be very comfortable!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I am not feeling it either, and I am so over the art tees. I found some good items in previous rollouts so no more shopping for me until Fall.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Chic Chauffeur -- thanks for the info! It sounds like it's really cute on you. I think I am going to opt out given problems I've had with J.Crew sizing recently; I might try on the Cappy eyelet cami in store as a substitute.

RANT: WTF is up with J.Crew sizing?! I have 3" chinos from past seasons in sizes 0 and 2 that fit perfectly, and the 0s this season were falling off! I tried on a pair of jean shorts today and it was a nightmare. I usually wear a 25 or 26, and was expecting to size up to a 26 because well, we all know how awful tight jean shorts are! Anyway, the 25 was INCHES too big. Like, fall to the ground if I'm not holding it up big. I highly recommend going down AT LEAST one size if you are crazy enough to consider buying $80 jean shorts.

I've been pretty disappointed with J.Crew as a whole lately. The sizing disparities make me really hesitant to order online, and there are so many items that are online only. The past couple swimsuits I've ordered were barely lined and see-through. I haven't been that excited by the roll-outs; I need summer dresses and tops to wear to BBQs, concerts, baseball games etc. and they are lacking. I know I will probably never have enough cardigans ;) but how many striped boatneck tshirts does a girl really need? /endrant

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh, and while I do love the "Mochila" bag, I already have one from The Sak that looks very, very similar at a fraction of the price.

  51. molly - I've noticed sizing changes, too. I find myself debating XSs instead of smalls, and I haven't been in an XS since my junior year of high school. The striped sequin henley and most of the tshirts just drape on me in a small.

    ReplyDelete
  52. L.L.Bean code has been claimed.

    ReplyDelete
  53. tres tippy, thanks for sharing the IRL photos and your opinion on the oak tweed pencil. The skirt looks great on you. I could see myself pairing this skirt with a lot of summer brights.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm only interested in a few pieces: the ikat pencil skirt and sequin sweatshirt (missed out on Jaspe). I'm glad that there wasn't much I am interested in. I've been on a J Crew binge since last fall. I'm probably going to wait for sales/promos and stock up on some of the older merchandise I like.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Molly, I also agree that the sizing has been all over the place. A couple years ago, I could reliably order a size 0-00 petite and know it would fit right. Now it seems like the petite clothes just have the hems taken up instead of being cut to scale. The petite Andre dress which is just lovely, has a PLUNGING v-neck which would be fine on a 5'10" girl, but on a petite girl looks indecent. I think the only thing they do now is take up hems!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I like the madras shirt and shorts. I'd order them if I had free shipping.

ot psa: 6pm.com has some amazing prices on Tretorn canvas sneakers:
    women's: Tretorn T-56 Canvas W SKU #7586535 $16.50
    men's: Tretorn T-56 Canvas SKU #7586608 $16.50

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm interested in these from the new rollout:

    Marseilles floral cami
    Sequin falls cardigan
    Gingham schoolboy blazer
    Madras boyfriend short
    Oak tweed pencil skirt

I'm surprised that the 2 new Liberty perfect shirts are not online. I also picked up a bling cotton v-neck cardi last night in a darker brown tone lynx pattern (called Iberian Lynx, KN3137, $88) that I do not see offered online. The only things that I am ordering today are a few bikinis, and a shirt for DB. I don't "have to have" anything else right now, and will hold out for a sale. Will try to hit up a store in the next few days to make some returns.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jeanne: Do the Tretorns run tts? It's a great price there.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Marietta, do you have any way to take a picture of that Iberian Lynx cardi and email to me? I would love to see the color as compared to the sand dune Lynx. My email is mrsnonia@aol.com.

    ReplyDelete
  60. jcrewphd, I ordered the Tretorns in my regular shoe size and they seem to fit fine. Unfortunately I bought mine before the current markdown. I doubt they'll last long at this price!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I can't seem to find the Marin dress online all of a sudden?

    ReplyDelete
  62. The Tulle swimsuits seem to be selling quickly. Any thoughts on it?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have to admit I'm pretty disappointed in the new arrivals, but like someone mentioned earlier, sometimes it just takes some time (and some sales) for them to grow on me.

Loving the gladiator bow-tie heels though!! I also like the ikat skirt but it's very similar to one that I already have from JC a few seasons ago.

There are definitely some questionable items too...the fade-out sailor tee just looks like someone spilled bleach on it!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Can anyone who has seen the new Liberty pefect shirts tell me what the patterns and colors are like?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I don't usually look at swim, so I'm not sure if it's from this rollout or the last one, but I LOVE the Glacé bikini. I wish it came in a halter or triange top instead of the bandeau!

    ReplyDelete
  66. For those of you liking the gingham blazer, there is also a crewcuts version - I know someone posted previously that 14 in a crewcuts blazer is comparable to XS. It's about half the cost of the adult version.

I also like the girls' Lemlem skirt. I wonder how long it is.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I like some of the new tees and knits, particularly the sequin necklace tank, the chiffon tiered tank and the stripe sequin boatneck tee. I think I just really like sequins lol. I also want the hockney tote in the weathered wood color, but I'm not sure if it will be too large for me. Has anyone seen the tote IRL?

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think I'm in the minority with my love for mini skirts, but at these price points, I will absolutely be waiting for sale. $200+ for a J.Crew summer mini that I can wear for 2-3 months in NYC? That I cannot rationalize.

I did jump on the Wildcat Ombre Pencil Skirt as I saw it featured in the entry display at my B&M yesterday and it was gorgeous in person - the touch of pink kinda reminded me of Gwen Stefani's wedding dress (if anyone remembers what I'm talking about) - a striking twist on an otherwise simple and classic design.

One last thought... am I missing something or do there seem to be fewer skirts being offered in petites these days? IMHO every pencil skirt should be offered in petite sizes... they just don't fit right otherwise, unless you tailor the heck out of them.

    ReplyDelete
  69. DesertFlower - absolutely. I will take a picture tonight when I get home and email it to you. It is a much richer brown than the Sand dune, which I didn't like because it was so blah.... I do much better with richer colors.

    ReplyDelete
  70. kitsmommy - one of the Liberty perfect shirt patterns was similar to the print on the floral daze cardigan. The other print was what appeared to be cherry/rose buds with olive green leaves.... both were $118, and I saw them at the 5th Ave. b&m in NY.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Bought the jewelled jardin dress that soldout in minutes. I can't wait to get it.

    ReplyDelete
  72. For anyone considering a swimsuit purchase, I had a post which includes reviews on some of the J.Crew swimsuits currently available: Click here to see it. :)

Btw, I went ahead and ordered the Tulle Swimsuit I mentioned earlier, so if anyone else happens to be interested in what it's like IRL, I can let you know next week when it arrives.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Maritta,

What color was the background the cherry/rose shirt? Was it warm or cooler toned?

    TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  74. the good thing, is free shipping even on the beach/swim cover up's!! i want the shore dress, it's on sale plus free shipping yay!

    ReplyDelete
  75. kitsmommy - the shirt is warm, the flower buds and leaves make up the entire shirt. So it's a combination of olive green and peachy rose (definitely not a cherry red). It was pretty, and I will probably pick it up at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  76. So far, I'm excited about more than I expected to be:

-caprese striped tunic (which everyone seems to love)
-silk cord cami (I think it's cool that you can pull the strings to customize your look)
    -linen/silk bustier dress (very sexy)
    -Super 120s Naeva dress
    -beautiful Golden Swirl dress
-both the Pretty Panel and Candy Wrap minis
-Oak tweed Caswell jacket (very elegant)

    ReplyDelete
  77. I hate when they go vague on descriptions, like a skirt with a length that "hits at mid-thigh." Mid-thigh on whom, idiots?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm big into skirts for summer and there are some nice ones in this rollout. Candy wrap, Pimm, Daisy Day, Ikat pencil to name a few.

I just have to comment on the shorter pencil skirt lengths. I seem to recall that there were many JCAs lamenting the (too) long length of the 24" pencil skirts and asking why JCrew couldn't offer some shorter pencils. Now that they are offering them shorter, the other half of the room is lamenting the shortness. I guess you just cannot please everyone but I for one am happier with the shorter lengths.

I have to agree that some of the minis have been reallly short as 12" but the regular 15-17" ones are fine. I think I'll start with the candy wrap and daisy day skirts.

Oh, and for anyone who is still considering the pastiche perfect shirt, it is pretty - pretty loud! I got mine today and wow I cannot believe the explosion of color and print. This could be very passe in a hurry but for thirty bucks that should be OK.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Mostly disappointed in this roll-out. I like the sequin boatneck but it looks very thin. Anxious to hear reviews about it.

The bad: I still think there are quite a few questionable items and it often looks like they are just trying, too hard. The final product is over-priced for what is truly strange design and often shoddy workmanship. I agree with Lynzeeroo, "the fade-out sailor tee just looks like someone spilled bleach on it!!" I looked at that and thought, wth..I need to pay someone to do that for me?

And what is that strange thing that's supposed to be a skirt shown with the Tissue Folded Bow Tank? Do I want that on my butt? Do I want to look like my skirt needs to be pulled down after sitting?

I am over the tees/tanks etc. with stuff all over them..have a hundred. But they are big money-makers for J Crew so we probably won't see less of them for awhile. There are many more just discovering or re-discovering the brand..they don't have all these tees, yet.

I want to give a shout-out to J Crew about the catalog styling. I am glad to see them taming it down, some. The last couple have been much better about less layers of every-thing. The models are smiling and look healthy:)

It's nice to see them coming back to their roots with some preppy madras with a twist. I think they should do well with that...sounds like they already have.

  80. I visited the one and only B&M in Houston today. What a horrible place! No one single SA asked to help me and MANY passed me by. It was as if I was invisible. Hard to use that excuse people, I am nearly 6ft - hey, like Jenna. I strolled around checking out the new merch but after a good while wondered out and made my way down to Banana Republic where I had many JA's saying hello, offering to help, one even tracked down some sale slacks and had them sent to me with free shipping. So, I have been rejected by Houston J.Crew and yes my feelings are hurt, silly me. I will not be returning.

    ReplyDelete
  81. OT, can't recall if someone was looking for the double serge bow pencil skirt in orange size 4- saw it listed on ebay for $68 (buy it now option).

    ReplyDelete
  82. I'm with audreybella, I would have loved the candy stripe in a pencil skirt. I am also interested in the Pineapple tunic, and would love to see a review if anyone has seen it IRL. With the 20% off promo I ordered the sequined sweatshirt and the striped sequin tee-will hopefully like one enough to keep.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Dickfiddy,

Some of us just want options with skirt lengths. I like a 22 to 24 skirt length on the pencils. Even at only 5'4" I really have trouble making a 21 inch skirt look appropriate for an office job without tights.

A straight mine isn't going to fly at 15 to 17 inches, even on my off time, but I will wear an 18 inch fuller skirt.

Most of us just want options and J Crew has been bad about just offering two extremss - super short casual skirts or only below knee length office skirts. I just miss the pretty, near knee length a lines they used to offer.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Kitsmommy, I agree. Lots of other retailers offer skirts in 3 lengths - petite, regular and tall. A 15" mini is not going to fit into my life ever, but I also agree that fuller skirts around 18" can work. As for the office, I cannot wear short skirts, plain and simple. I would love it if they were all offered in the 22"-24" range in addition to petites. Plus a skirt can always be hemmed (not that I wish my shorter sisters always had to hem), but they can't be made longer.

  85. Alexis and many here, I completely agree on the skirt lengths. I can't make anything shorter than 19" work even for casual wear, so to see all these 17.5 (and shorter!) skirts kills me. It's a bit depressing, even though I want to spend my money at J.Crew I feel like I can't right now. This might be the first time ever I don't use my rewards card.

  87. Anyone else get the new Talbot's catalog today? It looks even more like old J Crew than the last ones. There is plenty of eye candy to enjoy. Hopefully they really will start offering more smaller sizes come fall.

  89. I walked through the store today, and I found it rather depressing. I tried to like the new madras pieces but I don't wear shorts, I can't pull off the pants and I just don't love the blouse enough for the price point. I'm trying to spend money at JCrew but too many bland colors, short skirts, and sheer tops are making it difficult. I even tried to order some flip-flops...just the traditional grosgrain ones with my rewards card, but the the bland color offerings are a total turn-off for me. (Sigh)I really miss the JCrew summer offerings of 06 and 07...in hindsight I'm glad I bought a tons back then.

  90. Regarding the last picture in this post (girl in bikini with 20% off ad) - does anyone know what the blouse is? I can't figure it out. Thanks!

  91. JA,

I hear ya! I liked the brighter prettier madras that JCrew used to put out. The colors seem very muted and dull. I like my madras skirts and blazers from seasons past but the madras pants scare the heck out of me! Shorts yes, pants a bit to much for me.

  92. I love the new madras offerings and ordered all the new pieces. I have some from past years and there is a lot of yellow and not enough blue for my taste but getting quite worn as madras is oh, so comfortable in the heat. I think the cropped zipper pants will be the big winner for me, given the body skimming fit. Don't know if I'll keep the neon orange shorts since I have a bit of neon already this season but figured it wouldn't hurt to try them out. Also ordered the candy wrap and daisy day skirts. Three weeks of watching my friends dog and walking him 2+ hours a day in addition to my regular workout has left my legs in ship shape for summer and I'm ready to hang up the jeans until fall.

  93. Really disappointed in the madras tones and colors and JCRew got me started on madras many years ago. Like neutrals for madras this year. Yuck!!!! I am so glad I over bought their madras in years past so mine still looks bright and shiny and new from JCRew oldies. I just bought several LLBean items in their great madras colors if others are not thrilled by the dull JCrew ones.

  94. I think I'm in the minority here, but I actually prefer the duller colored madras. They're more wearable than the bright colors.

  95. ^Jeanne - You're not alone. I do too

  96. Jeanne, sesq, I also like the more muted madras colors for their versatility. The bluey tones are almost like well-worn denim and just as wearable.

I'm glad JCrew is remaking some of their preppy styles because other retailers are offering what appear to be classic JCrew prep now and preppy will always have a place in my wardrobe.

  97. @Kristin: I think it's the Breakers Plaid Shirt, the blue looks different than what's on the website, but the pattern looks the same. HTH!

  98. kitsmommy - I stopped by the b&m, the Liberty print perfect shirt actually has an ivory background, with the peachy pink rosebuds & olive green leaves. I don't know why I thought there was no background color! The style number is 25911.

  99. Has anyone seen the Tie-Dye Wednesday Skirt in a 0 or 2 at their B&M? Or, if you've seen the skirt in general, do you know what it's marked down to now? TIA for any help! :)

  100. It was $49.99 online this morning (not in my size though), but I'm wondering if it's cheaper in the stores now?

  101. I know I'm not alone in saying I've had a lot of problems with J-Crew swimwear. So just incase anyone is curious, I just got the new twist bandeau with underwire and it's awesome! I have the original twist bandeau and I hate it- no support and just a weird shape. This new one is great, they even send two straps, one thick and one thin. I'm very impressed!

  102. I'm obsessed with the Mochila bag in the natural color and was shocked to find out that J Crew is completely sold out online and in all of their stores across the United States!! If anyone comes across one in a store, please let me know by posting here. Thanks! :)

  103. MOCHILA BAG!! The one on JCrew has sold out but I've found more colorful (& cheaper ones) in various places--one of which where all the sale proceeds go to charity:
