This current promotion is mentioned in last month's "Free Monogramming at Madewell {limited time!}" post as well. But wait, there is more!

Williamsburg Store Opening- Madewell is opening its first BK store on 10/29 with an event that is open to the public!
A lot of exciting news and events going on at Madewell lately! I am also loving the monogramming on the spot events at various stores. This way customers don't have to wait an additional week to get their item.

I did end up getting a Transport Tote monogrammed in my initials during this current promotion. (I got the Black tote with English Saddle handles, with gold foil initials if you were curious.) I have to say it is gorgeous! It truly elevates the classic bag to something special and unique. I am really pleased with it. Now if only it would stop raining where I live so I can use it more! ;)

Have you taken advantage of the free monogramming at Madewell? Any events at Madewell you plan to attend? Please share! :)

"Thanks!" to Irina, as well as Chanie and Yossi, who shared that the J.Crew located on Prince Street (in NYC) will be participating in Fashion's Night Out.

The email from J.Crew states:
Shop, drink, then shop some more and enjoy an exclusive Fashion's Night Out gift with your purchase of $100 or more. We look forward to seeing you!
This event will take place on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 6 to 9PM.

The location for the store is:
99 Prince Street
(Between Mercer and Greene)
New York, NY

I was actually at that very store on Labor Day and it is one of the nicer J.Crew stores in NYC. The dedicated shoe section is amazing. I can only imagine how lovely the party will be in that location.

I am so curious about what the gift with purchase will be! I am also wondering if any J.Crew executive might be stopping by.

Will you attend this event? Will you be purchasing merchandise that night? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Fall/ Holiday 2011 Fashion Event in NYC

It is that time of year again... the Crew's Holiday Party Time! {Although in my head, I am singing it to the tune of "Peanut Butter Jelly Time".}

"Thanks!" to Dara (in this & this post) who let us know the following:
On a semi-related topic, just received my invitation to the NYC holiday party. First off, it's at the Fifth Avenue store this year instead of Madison Avenue Collection, presumably because the Fifth Avenue store was just renovated. Excited about this since the Fifth Avenue store is much closer to where I live and a bigger store means way more merchandise to choose from. Second, it seems Jenna won't be in attendance this year which I find strange (and frustrating because I left just before she arrived the last 3 years in a row!) Tom Mora and Frank Muytjens are hosting.
This event will take place this evening (although I am not sure what time it starts).

For those who attend, please share the details of this event with us! Who was there, who wore what, and all the other good stuff! :)

Wonder How to Dress for the Holidays {Tom Mora's got your back}

"Thanks!" to Kelly who shared the following article from Boston.com's Stylephile (click here to read in its entirety) and "thanks!" to Margot who let us know about the event at Copley Place:
Tips for holiday dressing from J.Crew's Tom Mora
By Rachel Raczka
November 8, 2011

We rang up Tom Mora, J.Crew's new head of women's design, before he arrives in Boston tomorrow for an appearance at the Copley Place store to celebrate the brand's holiday collection. Mora grew up in New York ("Queens, but you don't have to say that," he joked. "Just kidding! I love Queens! It was so nice having a suburban upbringing") and went on to attend Parsons school of design and work for Ralph Lauren before joining J.Crew. He brings a stylish sensibility and everyday glamour to the brand, where he previously designed special occasion collections.

Being the dapper gentleman that he is, Mora offered up his top 5 tips for working color and sparkle into a season often dominated by the little black dress.

Put on the glitz: "I think there's a whole new feeling of getting dressed up and what that actually means now," said Mora, who promised lots of sequins and glitter in J.Crew's holiday looks. "You can wear a really slim turtleneck with a metallic jacquard or plaid pant, a great heel, and red lip and look fantastic."

Pair bold hues with an unexpected neutral this season: "An amazing orange or red mixed with a heather grey or a taupe can introduce that pop while still neutralizing a look."

Go for the extreme: "I always think it's fantastic when someone is wearing a shocking pink top or a red bottom," said Mora. "It takes a lot more confidence but you can make a fantastic statement."

...Or play it safe: "If you feel like it's too much for you, try wearing a red pendant necklace or a clutch in a bright color," he added. But even baby steps are appreciated when trying a new trend. "Women are so much more sophisticated and experimental now. Rules, one by one, are getting chipped away."

Try the glittery ballet flats, but don't forget what mama said: "If a woman looks tailored and amazing and stands up straight, no one is even going to think twice about what she's wearing on her feet. Half the battle is the confidence a woman brings to an outfit."

Biggest faux pas of holiday dressing: "You know when you see actresses [at the Academy Awards] and you say, 'That doesn't look like her, she over-did it. I know you have 5 billion dollars of jewelry but you didn't have to wear it all.' Pull back a little bit and still be you," Mora advised.

"Don't go to the hair salon and have your hair done in a way that's not really you. Be who you are."

Want more of Mora? Meet him in person at Copley Place tomorrow evening where you can enjoy cocktails, chit chat, and 15 percent off your purchase at J.Crew.
It is so nice to hear from Tom Mora! I am also looking forward to seeing what he does for the Women's line.

What are your thoughts on the advice shared? Any part you agreed or disagreed with?

First, this event sounds a-m-a-z-i-n-g! Just meeting all those members of the design team is great. The additional gifts are fantastic! Second, it's weird to see a cost of $25 to attend. However, I totally think it is worth it. Just the $25 card gift card alone makes it even-stevens for me. Third, I do not have an American Express card, but now I want to get one.

This event is the kind of event that should be offered by J.Crew to J.Crew credit card holders. Maybe they will take note on what to give card members next.

Will you be attending this event? If so, please share! :)

Madewell Email: The Brooklyn Flea is coming

"Thanks!" to Marietta who shared the following email from Madewell.

Madewell is hosting an event at one of their NYC stores where customers can "be the first to shop a custom-curated selection of vintage finds" from their "favorite outdoor market". J.Crew will even provide refreshments and a "special Madewell Microbrew".

This {amazing} event will take place on Thursday, June 25th from 6 to 8 PM. If you are interested, RSVP to nycevents@madewell1937.com.

Lastly, the location for this event is:
Madewell SOHO
468 Broadway (at Broome)
(212) 226-6954

I visited the new Madewell store in Farmington, CT this Sunday and walked away feeling "meh" about the store. However, an event like this would totally make me feel excited about re-visiting it. I am totally curious about what "vintage finds" they picked out too! :)

What are your thoughts on this event? Do you think this is a good marketing tool by J.Crew? Do you plan on attending the event? If so , please share! :)

Party At J.Crew Mens Shop in SoHo {kind of}

There is an interesting article over at the Wall Street Journal (click here) about a recent event at J.Crew's Mens Shop in SoHo (NYC). [Incidentally, the image below with Jenna Lyons comes from this article).]

Harvey Weinstein Celebrates Crazy Joe Gallo, Michelle Obama, J.Crew
By WSJ
June 2, 2009

It was a mob scene at the newest J.Crew Mens Shop in SoHo Monday night as the retailer co-hosted a reading of a new book about the gangster known (and immortalized in a Bob Dylan song) as Crazy Joe Gallo.

A decked-out crowd turned up to see and hear the actors Matthew Modine and Steve Buscemi read excerpts from Tom Folsom’s “The Mad Ones: Crazy Joe Gallo and the Revolution at the Edge of the Underworld.” Another draw was media mogul Harvey Weinstein, who the retailer’s press reps coyly hinted might also read. “The Mad Ones” was published by Weinstein Books.

The event, co-hosted by the Accompanied Literary Society, was an unconventional one for a retailer that has been trying hard to shed its reputation as a conventional retailer. (The best way to rub J.Crew executives the wrong way, as a number of journalists have learned, is to refer to the retailer as a preppy mall-based chain.) With its idiosyncratic new men’s stores, all three of which are styled and decorated differently, the retailer has been trying to cultivate a more literary/artistic/bohemian/urban hipster crowd with events like Monday evening’s. It wants to be the rebel in the mall.

It was Weinstein though, who turned out to be the rebel Monday night. The event began at 6:30 and organizers didn’t want to start the reading until he arrived. After roughly 90 minutes and no sign, the show went on without him. The author and the actors looked dapper in their tailored J.Crew suits, sport coats and ties. Mr. Folsom chose a sleek, sheeny charcoal number that he said reminded him of the kind of sharkskin suit that the natty Joe Gallo might have worn. When Weinstein finally arrived unannounced, he didn’t follow the script.

Why was he participating in this event? “I love J.Crew,” he said.

Was he wearing J.Crew at the moment? “I’m not wearing J.Crew, but [CEO] Mickey Drexler is a great friend of mine and Emily Woods who really started J.Crew, is another good pal of mine. (pause) And doesn’t the First Lady wear J.Crew?” (Yep) “Well I like her too.”

If anyone is interested, there are several other articles about this event that goes into a bit more detail about the night (click here- which is where the image of the attendees came from, click here- for lots of images of the event which include Jenna Lyons, and here).

It is great to not only hear about these {super fun} events happening at J.Crew, it is wonderful to see so many people loving their clothes too (even if they are not wearing them at the moment)! ;)

Have you visited the new J.Crew Mens Shop in SoHo? What are your impressions (e.g. wide selection, friendly staff, etc)? (Is it as tiny as it looks in pictures, like this one)? ;)
