Happy Thanksgiving! {celebrating with J.Crew?}

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! (Okay, I might be early with this, but I still wish everyone a great Thanksgiving and safe travels.)

Similar to the Halloween post awhile back, I thought it might be fun to have a post on what we plan on wearing tomorrow.

I am going to break out the Metallic giraffe day coat (Item 96171). I am excited to wear this coat, especially since I have yet to wear it once since I purchased it. (I swear the weather in the Northeast went from Summer to freezing Winter, with no break for Fall at all.) I also plan to wear my "dark fern" perfect-fit long-sleeve crewneck tee (item 97705, $24.50), and a pair of Gap denim trousers.

What are you planning to wear this Thanksgiving? Are you planning to go "head to toe" J.Crew or parts J.Crew?

  1. I am wearing my art deco tank - great browns and fall colors - with some Joe's Jeans and brown ballet flats. Probably have a sea salt cardigan in case it gets cold. Since I am in TX though I can probably handle it indoors with just the shirt. Happy Turkey Day!

  2. anon @ 8:25,
Sounds cute! I'm jealous...I had planned to wear my art deco tank but it was delivered to the wrong address and disappeared, so now I'm waiting for the replacement :(

Not sure what I'll wear tomorrow; I guess I should figure it out soon!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. Happy Thanksgiving to you too! Thanks for your fun, informative blog!

While I love J. Crew, I'll be sporting Lilly tomorrow!

  5. There were two black chiffon rose tees online early this a.m One size S and another X-Large. I snagged the XL. Hope it comes even if it is tad big:)

  6. I am moving Overseas tomorrow and am so excited I get to see my husband (he's been there a month) so kind of on topic I have to figure out what to wear on the long trip- something comfortable but I don't want to look sloppy either! My whole wardrobe is Jcrew so any suggestions would be fun!

    ReplyDelete
  7. i'm most likely wearing the anthropologie cream-of-the-crop top (style #813682) with a tank underneath and a cardigan over (unsure on what colors right now), with j.crew trouser jeans.

  8. I am wearing the watercolor rosette cami in the aged congac with a honey glaze cardigan and dark jeans. Shoes wise I think I will have my Havianas handy for cooking so my feet don't get too tired and then change into my Banana Republic brushed suede goldish color peep toes wedges.

  9. What a fun post Alexis! Think I am going to wear my Ann Taylor Loft red rosette tank, black cardi & dark wash denim, but, not 100% sure. Today running errands, I might wear my gray sequin trim cardi, crest T, and jeans, so many choices! Anywho, have lots to be thankful for.

  10. I always end up being head to toe J.Crew as my wardrob is pretty much all J.Crew with a few Paige jeans and for now, some maternity pants. Last year, my mom and I both wore the same sweater. It was a shawl collar (dream I think) sweater with two little pockets on the front. And we both got it in off-white.

  11. I am going to wear my cotton-silk lawn twisted-placket shirt in navy with a cashmere keepsake cardi in honey glaze over it and my dark brown city fit luxe trouser cords. Will probably accessorize it w/ a gold rope necklace and my honey glaze lulu peep toes.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I was going to wear my Victoria cami in black/grey with a cardi over it (either City Tee cardi with bow in black , or a peacock color cardi from Banana) with either dark jeans or black pants. However, my Cashmere Heirloom Henley finally arrived yesterday (navy blue), so I'm thinking I might wear that with dark jeans and my Lulu's (the light brown color) or with a skirt and boots. We'll see! Too many options!

  13. Head to . . . almost toe.

Abstract rose skirt, brown favorite tank, and San Telmo black jacket. I'm in Mazatlan. Black j-41 sandals.

  14. I am going to my in-laws house, and no matter how cold it is outside, it is always HOT in their condo on Thanksgiving, between the heat from the kitchen and all the people in a tiny space. So, I will be wearing my Matchstick cords in faded cement with my Merino Melanie button-cuff crewneck sweater in dark peony.

  15. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Great post, Alexis! Your outfit sounds FABULOUS! :)

I plan to wear my Ivory Suzannah Cami, J.Crew Dark Denim 5-pocket Trouser Jeans, Honey Glaze Jackie Cardigan, Cornsilk Necklace and Bracelet, and my Juliet Safari Midheels. :)

  16. I love these posts, I hope you do one for Christmas too! For Thanksgiving, I'll be wearing the Marcella blouse in honey glaze tucked into the charcoal felted wool mini.

  17. OT, but how does Lands End cashmere (is, the St. Nick $50 special styles compare to JCrew's -quality, piling, fit, cut? Thx.

  18. Great post and great outfit planned, Alexis! Giraffe coat is such a fun piece.
I think I will be wearing the Sparkles set I made on Polyvore for Thanksgiving contest. I have all the items except bag and my pants are wide cords instead of chinos.Oh, and no vintage Rolex ( yet!)>:)

  19. Great post!

I am planning on wearing my sweet potato herringbone Academy pants--not sure what I will wear on top. I am hosting this year so I am sure I will be hot in the kitchen! Perhaps a favorite tank then throw a sweater over the top at the end. My favorite "go-to" sweater right now are the Cashmere scoopnecks from Martin + Osa...great weight and shape.

Wish me luck cooking for my in-laws, and happy Thanksgiving everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I will definitely be wearing some JCrew vintage cords and probably some perfect-fit tees, too! I love the "new weight for fall" as compared to the past couple of years. I might throw in some cashmere, too.

Alexis - I wanted to suggest JCrew shoes as a blog topic. I really like a lot of JCrew shoe styles (like the Juliet patent leopard mid-pump) but am loath to pay JCrew prices for a shoe that has no apparent padding anywhere, and has a liner made of man-made materials. I would be curious to hear input from JCrew shoe-wearers and to find out if anyone else shares my issue. I do own a pair of driving mocs and love them. Thanks!

  21. To Anon @ 10:35 AM on Nov. 25 re: Lands End cashmere - the quality is fantastic, and there is essentially no pilling on a sweater I've had from there and worn for the past 5 years. The style I have is somewhat boxy but it is a tunic. Customer Serv. at LE is great - they will send you a fabric sample if you like. The only reason I don't buy more cashmere from LE is because I'm tall and the arms in the "regular" sizes aren't quite long enough for me!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I will be wearing my 5 pocket trouser jeans with an off white cambridge cable neck sweater, a off white tank top and the sweet potatoe herringbone ecole jacket, along with my brown coach boots and purse.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anon @10:51: I have the Juliets you are talking about...they are the Juliet Safari Midheels seen Here . They are absolutely beautiful, but not comfortable at all. I have only worn them inside my house, and the left shoe *pinches* the inside of my foot at the toe bed area. I am hoping they will soften a little at that spot and not be too painful as I wear them more often. I purchased mine from an Ebayer for a fraction of what J.Crew is selling them for...I definitely would NOT pay full price for them.

  24. FUN IDEA:)
Gold Matchstick cords, Aged Rosette Tank and this long shawl collar vintage robe sweater I got from Target's GO line-Alice Temperly last year. Oh and shoes--my oh so amazing, distressed platinum gold, mary jane heels from last season--gorgeous but the most uncomfortable shoes ever!

I have such a love/hate relationship with J Crew shoes. They are gorgeous but SO not worth the money. I have actually decided that they aren't made in Italy--they are made in China and someone there has a nice stamp that they press into the soles that reads "made in Italy". This is not a joke--I believe this. I honestly think the craftsmanship is garbage...and yes, I am a hypocrite in the name of fashion as I wear all kinds of their shoes. Glad I will just be sitting on my toucas--eating all day--wearing these shoes--as standing is forbidden. BTW--these are layered with gel inserts but still..OUCH! Bringing flip flops for cooking and I bet they just end up staying on my feet;)

Happy Turkey Day--I have SO much to be thankful for!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Covert 5, LOL! I know the shoes you are talking about!:)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sorry to go so off topic here..am I the only one that never recv'd the TURKEY email? In fact, I still haven't! If I hadn't read it on the blogs, I would never have known and I placed one of my largest orders ever at $1800 (keep in mind this included re-ordering everything from last Friday's 20% off sale. Sad but true..among other price drops..I could not pass up re-ordering an uptown tote that was on it's way for $298 but since dropped to $140 with the discount) plus I ordered 2 sizes for items I am unsure of fit. Wish I didn't have to but size is so difficult to determine:( Needless to say--lots of returns coming from these orders.

I typically receive all of their emails--eventually. Anyone else yet to receive it?

  27. I live in England and they don't celebrate Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday! But in memory of the best day of the year I will wear my trouser cords, papaya silk cami and a jackie cardigan

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wearing my Coppelle Paisley skirt with brown tights/brown boots, and a navy jackie twinset. Brown wood bangle and I'm good!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Off topic & I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but I can't find the answer.. If something is listed as shipping at a future date, what happens to the order? Do they hold off on grabbing the rest of the merchandise until that other item becomes available? Or do they ship seperately? How accurate are those dates? Thanks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  30. FFM,
I have the Safari Midheels in the slingback version from earlier this year, and they are hands down the most comfortable JCrew shoes I own. And the ones I get the most compliments on! Might be a good trade off if you don't like the Juliet version.

    ReplyDelete
  31. covert5--
I couldn't agree more on last years' Mary Janes being the most uncomfortable shoes EVER. I have the Parisian silver distressed ones, and they are cute as all get out but when you wear them around, sit down for a minute and then have to get back up on them again....MISERY...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks Smartblonde! I actually purchased the Slingbacks from J.Crew first, but they are a bit too small, so I have them listed on the weekly exchange to see if anyone is interested before I return them to the store, since they are sold out now. I actually wanted the Juliets so I'm glad I got them...I just need to figure out a way to stop the shoe from rubbing and pinching on the top of my foot. I agree with you that the shoes are just absolutely STUNNING IRL...I have the Serengeti belt and Clutch, too. I LOVE the print. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I can now agree 100% about J.Crew shoes being completely uncomfortable...even their capri sandals...WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE??? Especially for the amount of money they cost! The shoes are SO beautiful, but only for sitting and looking pretty...I would NEVER risk wearing them out when I'll be walking a lot. Probably just out to dinner and to church is all I'll be able to manage enduring them for. I just recently purchased a pair of Michael Kors Boots with a 4 inch heel and I can walk in them ALL DAY LONG...they are SO COMFORTABLE! I just don't see why J.Crew can't make a comfortable shoe, too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I haven't decided yet, but am leaning toward my grey herringbone University trousers from last year (DH calls them my "fancy sweatpants", so that works - I won't have to change after dinner!), racerback pink angora JC tank with pink sequins (from eBay for $15, the tag says "JC Enjoy" - was this a precusor to "Collection"?) and ivory Cambridge cable cardigan. Haven't decided on shoes... yet! I was hoping to get my Claudia heels today but my order for them is still "open" and nobody at CS has any idea why. *flashbacks to July*

    Happy Thanksgiving, all!

    ReplyDelete
  35. silver_lining: What color of the Claudias did you get? They are beautiful...I actually have the pewter in my shopping cart right now. :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. OT, I know someone was waiting to the quinn cami to go on sale--now on promo for 59.50; if you do extra 30% off that's not bad.

Tomorrow I plan to wear my black w/ gold thread university pant with a black silk knot top I got from BR.

    ReplyDelete
  37. smartblonde--I agree those are one of their best. I have them as well. Perfect heel height and overall a better fit makes for the ideal shoe.
I also have the peeptoe serengeti and these are similar in comfort. Juliets are second to these two in comfort--they do fit better and heel height is nice.

The complaints I have for my other heels are that they are so flimsy in structure--I am almost certain the heel is going to snap off the fleur peeptoes I just recv'd. I can almost feel it when I walk on the carpet. I LOVE these shoes--I don't want to be a complainer as I LOVE all the J Crew styles but I complain as i hope SO much they make a change to their shoes. One that demands full prices. The fleurs are on SALE for $180--that IMO is wrong for a shoe this flimsy.

  38. Cass that was AMY--go get it sweetie!

    ReplyDelete
  39. The Sketchbook Roses Belle Skirt size 2 in dark pewter is on the J.Crew site this morning for 39.99 if anyone is still looking for it.

  40. FFM, I have some shoes that are a bit tight in the toe. I got one of those wooden shoe stretchers from nordstrom rack for $15--it has a little plastic peg you can move around to put where you need extra stretch. Leave in each shoe for 48 hrs. To help even more, shoe repair places sell this leather stretch liquid--first put it on the inside of the shoe in the toe box area, then put the wooden stretcher in. You should notice a difference after this. You may have to repeat the process if the leather "rebounds" to its smaller size.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks Cass! I'll definitely give that a try. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Salestina - love your outfit! I am interested to hear your review of the Oslo purse!

    ReplyDelete
  43. FFM: I just bought a pair of Michael Kors Boots (penelope is the style) with a high heel... and they are sooo comfortable too! JCrew needs to get with it and throw some padding in their shoes!

Tomorrow, I am going to wear my orange marcella or moss joelle blouse, with the bee bracelet (I am in love with it) and probably my lightweight trouser jeans even though they are too big. Got them on final sale though.. what's a girl to do?

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. anon @ 8:50 am: you'll be so happy with the XL in the rose tee! i am usually a large in their tops (or a 12) and can sometimes do mediums in their swingier tops. I got an XL in the rose tee and it fits great! you don't want it sung anyway because then the rose detail will just cling to your chest and look funny lol. it's such a fun and easy piece to wear and you'll get so many compliments on it! good luck with all the shipping craziness and congrats on a great top!

    ReplyDelete
  45. FFM, I ordered the Claudias in Metallic Sherbet - they are really cute! I couldn't decide between those and the pewter. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Silver_lining: Please review them once you receive them...I would LOVE to know what you think! :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Will do! The Claudias look to be the same style as the Juliets so I went up to a 9.5 (I'm usually between 9/9.5, but found my size 9 Blanched Almond Juliets a bit snug at first and took a while to break in) and hopefully the fit will be good right off the bat. Congrats on the Safari Juliets - I got them off of eBay in a 9 but they felt so small in the toebox that I couldn't wear them, and turned around and put them back up for auction. I am loving that JC has taken the heel heights down a bit this year - anything over 3.5" is too much for me!

    ReplyDelete
  48. silver lining,
i am also curious about the claudias! do you think they would be more comfy than the crackle metallic mary janes?

    ReplyDelete
  49. smartblonde - I think so! I tried those crackle metallic Mary Janes and found them to be incredibly uncomfortable, mainly due to the heel height. The almost 4" heel just pitches your entire foot forward, and with little/no padding under the ball of the foot, I found myself unable to walk in them (and forget going down stairs!). The Juliet/Claudia style only has a 2.75" heel so it seems like my weight is more evenly distributed, and since the heel is stacked they're also more tolerable. I've even run in my Juliets a few times!

The only thing that I'm wary about is the "crackle" finish. I know that it's supposed to have a vintage look, but I got a pair of Vivian slingbacks over the summer, and after wearing them with trousers for one day, the cuff caused a good portion of the metallic finish to wear off the heels. I'm very glad that I got them off of eBay and didn't pay whatever ridiculous full price JC was asking for them!

    ReplyDelete
  50. What does one wear when they're going to Thanksgiving (at my brother-in-law's house), where NOBODY (except me) has any fashion sense whatsoever? They're all nice people, but they are totally NOT into clothes! Should I even bother to try and look nice? Last year, my sister-in-law wore tan corduroy overalls to Thanksgiving dinner. It reminded me of "Corduroy Bear". Not cute on a 40-year-old woman. I don't want them to think I'm trying to "show them up" with my nice outfit. I might as well throw on some elastic waist pants and a sweatshirt, at least that way I'll be able to eat alot!
    What should I do?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I completely panicked reading all the great T'giving outfits in this post and I just ran out to J.Crew to replenish and get some more options...still not sure what I'll wear, but the store I went to had 50% off sale, so I got:

Merino Glass Button Cardi for $30
Merino Lili Ruffle Cardi for $30
    Rosette Belt for $5
They also had an additional $20 off all denim

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'll be wearing my light blue JCrew vintage Oxford shirt with their Cambridge Tie (red with blueish dots) along with a pair of black/gray/navy (not really sure which) cords!

    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I am going to my parents house for Thanksgiving where my sisters and myself will be the only ones who actually put any ounce of thought into our appearances. Usually we all try to tone it down for fear of looking way too overdressed for the occasion. I will probably wear a nice pair of trouser jeans with a plain black merino turtleneck sweater, some pearls, and my favorite black leather Lizzie driving mocs!

Your outfits all sounds lovely. Have a great Thanksgiving!!

Anonymous at 1:22 PM - your post made me laugh out loud! I can totally sympathize.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I agree with anonymous at 10:51 about the shoes review. I always think that J crew shoes are cute but not really sure about how comfy they are, especially I don't have any J crew stores that carry shoes close to where I live and order online is kind of tricky for shoes. I've been wanting to get either the Lulu flats or the Alessia Patent flats. Both are on sale now.. but not sure how comfy they are

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anon @1:22: It is truly frustrating to see how *casual* the majority of society has become when it comes to the way they dress. I have said previously that I wish the days when people actually DID *dress* for special occasions, trips, or just day to day life were still here...such as in the *Old Hollywood* era.

That being said...I don't think personally that you should NOT dress fashionably because your relations choose not to. I would suggest however, that you opt for a nice pair of dark denim jeans and your favorite shirt, blouse, sweater, etc. This will make you *casual* enough for your environment, but still give you a sense of self, and of not succumbing to the *dress code* of those particular members of your family.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I just sent my Claudias in Metallic Sherbet back because there was such a gap in the back. I got a size 7, but had to return/reorder in a 6.5. This is so unlike my Safari Juliet Midheels which fit like a dream, but are as uncomfortable as heck!

Tomorrow I am wearing my Honey Glaze Jackie cardi, Watercolor Rosette cami in Aged Cognac, Hipslung jeans, Scroll Link bracelet, and Rivington Midheel boots in Espresso to my in-laws. I am then changing into my Plum Cambridge cardi, Sweet Potato Marcella blouse, Acorn necklace, Hipslung jeans, and Rivington boots to go to my mom's house.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. OMG, guess what just showed up at my door? The Claudias! My order is still showing "Open" online. I'll try them on and let you know what I think. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. OT: So...I tried to do part of my house cleaning in my Safari Juliets (a la June Cleaver) to try and stretch them out a bit, and lasted about 30 minutes...I've GOT to try the shoe stretchers that Cass recommends...I DON'T want to give up these shoes!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. YAY silver_lining!!! Can't wait to hear what you think! :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Happy Thanksgiving jcrewjunkie! How is your mom feeling?

    ReplyDelete
  61. anon @ 1:22: I would like to second everything that FFM just said. You can wear something casual, but fashionable and still feel like you have blended the best of both worlds. Dark jeans, sweater, blouse, whatever you choose make sure that you retain your sense of "fashionable" self. Enjoy your day! :)

  62. OT-A few Reviews and just my opinion:

Love the platinum Lulu heels--good fit too-actually felt comfy and very FUN!

Platinum Gold Uptown Tote it's very bright gold--oh I am bummed. I had hoped the color would be slightly more subdued like the shade of my uncomfortable distressed mary janes.
Also SO not worth the original price of $378!! $140 is different story:) I tried.

Owen bag--not loving this shape-very round/circular with no give. Nice leather and lined-but the current price is thumbs up at $140. Short/tight handle drop for coats, and handle has annoying squeak! Will it fit over shoulder with coat?? Prob tightly. It's going back but not knocking it for those that love it. Handle drop would work fine without coat weather.
Maybe I am more of an Oslo fan?? Haven't seen Oslo IRL can someone can share their opinion of Oslo?

    ReplyDelete
  63. FFM: Happy Thanksgiving and thanks so much for asking about my mom. She is VERY cranky as they have moved the date that she can begin driving again to after Christmas which really "clips her wings". I caught her trying to hobble outside (with car keys in hand) yesterday and had a real struggle trying to get her back inside as she was on her way to the post office. Whew...that woman is entirely too active for her age and injury. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Slastena: I noticed you put the shimmer metallic scarf in your polyvore. I was debating getting the white as a gift for a friend. Is it very scratchy? That was my biggest worry! Thanks in advance. :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. covert5: I have seen the small Oslo bag IRL, and it ISN'T lined...I SO wanted to love it! I actually planned to get the Large Oslo when the price gets reduced, but the unlined factor is a real issue for me, so it will be a *no go*. The bag is very cute other than that.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Not sure what I'm wearing tomorrow yet but today for our pre-Turkey day potluck at work, I have on the hip slung jeans, black sweater and ecole blazer in bright rhubarb.

OT- 30% off at Martin & Osa on 11/27. The code is 75164287.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  67. If anyone is still looking for them, the Austin store @ The Domain has the Penelope Heels in Canyon in 8 1/2 for 79.99 plus 30% off. Too big for me or I would have snagged them!

    ReplyDelete
  68. In other words...not being lined means it's just raw leather on the inside, in case my explanation before wasn't clear, and I saw it in the champagne color.

    ReplyDelete
  69. jcrewjunkie: Cranky definitely isn't good, but I AM glad to hear that she up and moving again! :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. FFM-
good point. I use the "purse to go" so this isn't the worst thing for me. I do think it's crazy for the price though. I just realized champagne is not as marked down in large size though--just that buttercup that looks like citrus. I will wait.

  71. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I'm pretty sure I am going to wear the Watercolor garden Lydia blouse, the dream tie cardigan in ivory, and either a pair of dark denim trousers or the Favorite-fit wool twill university pant in camel.

    Great topic, Alexis!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Like Anonymous 1:38, I would like to know if anyone has the Alessia patent flats and can comment on their comfort. Or lack of comfort.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Okay, the Claudias are totally cute! Fit is good - I got the 9.5, which leaves about a quarter inch gap in the back but the toebox fit is just right. I think a 9 would've been too tight in the toebox and I don't know how much they'd be able to be broken in. They came with a cute little dustbag and a card that says the following: "This shoe's signature crackle-metallic finish is created with a whisper-thin layer of metallic foil atop soft, supple Italian suede. Over time, the leather's natural movement will cause the foil to wear gently in places, enhancing the exquisite "vintage" look. To maintain the foil finish, handle (and wear) with care." The metallic finish on them looks pretty even throughout, and at a little more than $100, I'm happy with them. The color is pink, but not OMGPINK! When the metallic sherbet foil belt goes on sale, I'll have to pick it up to match the Claudias. They're about the same feel as the Juliets - not extremely comfortable (no surprise there), but the half size should allow for an insert of some sort. All in all, thumbs up!

I also ordered the taffeta A-line skirt - should've sized up for this one, and wow, is it thin! I can see why it keeps going down in price! Cute sheen, though, and not too shiny. This one's going back.

Also ordered the Toscan earmuffs - girls, I LOL'd so hard when I put these on! They are HUGE - I looked like I was wearing a Muppet! Definitely going back - no doubt these may end up going as low as $9.99!

The rest of my order was a "J Crew Pink Package" for my sister for Xmas - the mohair scarf in shell, Cortina gloves and hat in ballet, rhinestone grosgrain belt in azalea, sequin placket henley.

  74. So FAB about the shoes, silver_lining! Now you CAN wear them with your outfit for Thanksgiving! :)

  75. Anyone in need of double serge Ochre color pencil skirt size 2. I forgot I had this on backorder when I ended up locating the honey boucle pencil skirt. Let me know ASAP-it's going back:)

  76. OT-questions for those with hammered silk and the terribly itchy liner at the neck--did anyone have luck cutting it out?? Or any remedy? Got it in yellow today and it is VERY pretty IRL. Not the color on the model at all. More of golden yellow (like the item colorblock-not the citrus model picture) and flattering to all skin tones. So pretty! Gotta have it at $21!!

  77. I'll be leaving for vacation on Friday, so we're not really have Thanksgiving this year. I will probably be in sweats and a tee, since I'll be packing and stuff like that.

OT - I went to my b&m this morning and they were having 30% off items ending in .99. I tried on the Francie skirt and I love it! My store only had it in black and red - had they had the ivory, I would have bought it. Plus, it was marked 59.99, so I would have also gotten the 30%. Because of the problems many have had, I didn't even try to see if they would price match over the red phone. (It's still 90 online). They had 2 of the charcoal berry astrid, lots of high heel jeans, city fit luxe cords, lea cardigans, a few cashmere tees, and random tees and pants. (I saw on small seize the day in teal if anyone's still looking.) I was good though, only bought myself one things (indigo matchstick cords) and got 2 Christmas gifts. If I didn't need to save money for gifts, I would have bought more for myself. :) Btw, I was at the Charleston, SC, store.

  78. Covert5, thank you SO much for the Owen review - I've been so on the fence about it but wasn't sure if I'd be able to put it on over a coat. It does look VERY round, even though I love the hobo shape - and the squeaky handle is a deal-breaker! ;) On another note, I still can't believe that JC doesn't line all of their bags!

  79. Math teacher, how did the Francie skirt fit? TTS? I'm normally b/w a 10 and a 12, and based on measurements from CS I bought it in the 10, but now I'm feeling a bit unsure...also where did it hit? At the knee or above? Is it a definete flare or more of an A-line?
    TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I will be wearing my faded cement vintage bootcut cords, black city chiffon bow cardi, black perfect fit tee (Gap) and black boots.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I sized down in the Francie, a 10 should be fine for you!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Jcrewjunkie: are your Rivington boots short or tall? Do you wear your hipslung jeans in or outside of them? I hope my question doesn't sound too dumb! I have the Rivington boots in both short and tall, but I hardly ever wear the tall ones because I am fashion-challenged!:(

    ReplyDelete
  83. Thank you anon at 10:44! Where did the skirt hit on you (lengthwise?)

And what's the material like IRL?

    ReplyDelete
  84. a: I tried on my normal size, and it was a little loose. But, generally when I size down, it's too small. If you're between sizes, then you're probably fine sizing down. The length was right at me knee and it had a slight flare. I thought it was adorable. If I didn't already have a black skirt, I would have bought it. I'm hoping for the ivory and purple at some point. HTH
Btw, if anyone sees the ivory in store in a size 6, please let me know. TIA

    ReplyDelete
  85. Francie skirt: I had a different take than math teacher, but we may have different body types. I am curvy and also between sizes, but when I sized down, I found this to be VERY unflattering on me. It totally emphasized my pooch! This may be b/c I am short (5'4"), so the way it is cut on the bias it is a little clingy (if thick wool can BE clingy) in the wrong spot on me. When I sized up just a tad, I found I had to pull it a little higher on my waist to have it lay right. But I loved the higher waist (not HIGH waist, just highER) since I plan to wear this with a tucked in shirt or sweater and my blanched almond patent belt. The waist band area is very wide and a thick belt looks GREAT with this! A taller person may be able to size down easily if you are between sizes, but careful if you are short! Hope that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Thanks Math Teacher and Smartblonde! I am tall (5'7) and also curvy so I guess I'll have to wait to get the skirts to find out how they will fit :( I had planned to order a 12, but when I heard the measurements they seemed quite big so I sized down. Now, Im' thinking I should have gone with the 12....*heres hoping* it fits as I really don't want to go through the return/repurchase!! (such a pain, doubly so as I'm in Canada!)

I got the skirt in both ivory and black and cant wait to get them!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I bought the dark cloud Lulu peep toe heels *and* flats- they were surprising comfy. I have tried on other flats from jcrew and they were just too uncomfortable. The matte leather confirms to the foot a lot more than the patent IMO. Got them for $60 each from Jeremys- last ones in gray and both in my size. Shoe fate : )

The flats will get more wear since I don't wear heels that much but the heels were really cute with jeans and no toe cleavage (which was a pleasant surprise)

Size was true to other shoe brands but 1/2 size down from say jcrew espadrilles and flip flops. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  88. smartblonde: I am 5'4" also, and I didn't actually try on a smaller size. I would have bought my normal size and had it be a little loose. The waist does sit a little higher, which I prefer in my skirts. I am not between sizes, though, I wear a 6 in everything, except city fit pants (4) and pencil skirts (8). HTH The bad thing about JC clothes are that you have to try them on - even my sa tells me to try on 3 of the same size to see which one fits the best. Wish they could get their sizing straightened out.

    ReplyDelete
  89. bellemarie: Where is Jeremy's? California, right? I'm in SC, so no chance of finding the flats for $60 here. :) I would love to have the lulu flats in gold, but know that they're cheaper in stores than online, which makes buying them online painful. So, I will continue to wait. :) Congrats on your shoe purchases!

  90. Bellemarie: Thanks for the shoe info.

  91. Not wearing J Crew tomorrow--we are hosting and I can't dress up! Too busy cooking....

Question--any thin are the Crew's tissue tees? Can you see your bra thru them? (in the darker colors)

I was just looking at the sale stuff and it seems a lot is selling out!

    ReplyDelete
  92. No you cannot see through the dark color tissue tees, but you can with the lighter ones.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Math Teacher, I agree with you completely, better to get your normal size and have it be a little loose. I got both the Ivory and the fuschia colored one, and love them! A in canada, hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  94. A I bet you are going to be just right in a size 10 since you are a little taller. Let us know!

    ReplyDelete
  95. OT - if anyone is thinking about ordering the Tissue Chiffon Rosette Cami (item 10508) it is very pretty IRL, the web photos don't do it justice. The rosettes are a very nice detail but I think they should have added a few more rows. Very comfortable and cut under any cardigan. However it runs really really big.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. kate (and others)^
I loved this tank--so pretty IRL. I could not wear it though. I had on xsmall and it was big everywhere--could not wear a bra (not even strapless) and 32D cannot pull that off. So sad. Just keep in mind for fit purposes but if you can pull it off-DARLING!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I will, for sure

Thanks for all of your help ladies!

  99. Kate & Covert5-- so will you suggest to size down 1 or even 2 sizes on the Rosette cami? I am a medium or size 4/6 and an not sure if I should order a small or even xs? Thanks!

    Annie

    ReplyDelete
  100. None of the 5 items I want are selling out. I am watching the numbers and they have been the same yesterday and today. I am waiting for the best deals:)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Annie - I am a 4/6 and Medium in most of the ringspun tees but a small in the perfect fit tanks... I am tall and thin but busty so I have to work around that... The small in the Rosette cami worked for me but I would have to take up the straps about 1 inch, I did not get to try on the x-small. You would probably be fine with the xs. What color are you getting? I ordered the stone but am now in love with the cypress.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Can someone do a review on the Collection Metallic Houndstooth Marie Jacket item 99476?
I just saw it in the catalog and was hooked, I love houndstooth. But it looks a little too shinny. Has anyone purchased the blazer version of this material? How shiny is it?
I also dont know how the Marie cut fits. Is it true to size? I usually buy a 10 in Crew blazers.
    Thank you!
(I'm waiting for the jacket to go down in price $425 is way too much!)

    ReplyDelete
  103. Oh, torture me :) I love the metallic giraffe day coat but could not find one in size 0 (anyone want to sell me hers?). I agree with FabulousFloridaMummy and long for the days when people *dressed* for occasions or even for dinner. Like some of you, I'm the fashionable one in the family but do worry about dripping gravy on cashmere and being comfortable putting away seconds on dressing and pie ;) I never know if it will be like an oven or igloo at my in-laws so will have to be prepared with the natural silk-applique critter tee, purple cambridge cable cardigan and chocolate bootcut cords with gold skinny metallic belt and leopard haircalf ballet flats.

Speaking of shoes ... I used to LOVE J. Crew shoes (been a fan and loyal customer for at least 15 years). Lately, I thought it was just me but also found them to be sometimes too small (at least the size 5.5s) or killer (looking cute but kills my feet). Maybe more man-made components are to blame or ? I've been very reluctant to order shoes ... Are the heels are too tall? Will they will be too small? Will the lining or strap or something else cause a blister???

In any case, I've sure gobbled away (sorry!) with that 30% off (clothes and accessories, no shoes for me) many, many times over $250 in the past couple of days.

    Happy Turkey Day, everyone!

  104. anon @ 2:44: I have the midboot in the Rivington. I absolutely love love love them and wear them constantly, so much so, that I had to order a new pair this year as I wore my last year's pair out! I always wear my Hipslung jeans on the outside of my boots (even my high ones). I wear my matchstick jeans tucked into my Glenbrae boots, but I think that any jeans other than that would be terribly uncomfortable. HTH.

    ReplyDelete
  105. covert5: I have the Hammered Silk tank in Peacock and Nantucket Fog. I cut the chiffon out of both of them and they are much more comfortable that way. I finished the edge off with tape that can be used to put in a temporary seam and they are very comfortable now! HTH.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Kate-thanks for your input! I remember during the summer time I ordered the piper tank in size 4 and it was so tight, so when I ordered the metallic zoey tank, I went with a 6 and it was huge! I am totally lost and ended up with all these tank tops that won't fit. I think I will probably go with xs and I am considering getting stone. It seems like a very neutral color that will go with a lot of cardigans. :)

    Annie

    ReplyDelete
  107. Obviously, I'll be in m union suit.

  108. Annie - great choice, the stone is really pretty. My stone actually arrived today in a Medium - so I am taking it back for an exchange.

  110. Does anyone know if their J. Crew has replenished their sale section today?

    ReplyDelete
  111. The sales are all over the map, some prices don't show until you click on the item, you have to go through the full price section to find more, I found a couple of new things today.

Isabel blouse was $88.00 select colors $29.99 item 96482
? If you have it, does it look nice tucked in?

  113. Is the cashmere that bad? What would you pay for it? I really like the keepsake cardigan, heirloom henley, etc. The keepsake is marked down but I can't stop thinking about the bad reviews JCrew's cashmere has received from customers. What's it worth, in your opinion? Thanks if you can help me out with this decision.

    ReplyDelete
  114. OT- But does the Jcrew B&M's hold any special Black Friday sales or something like that?

    ReplyDelete
  115. I don't want to influence you one way or another I can only relate my experience with 4 pieces that I have. I bought all of these on sale, and I had quality issues on all but 1 cashmere tee, and not just pilling, seams coming undone after wearing them a couple of times, and I am not hard on clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Annie-xsmall--i love the champagne!

jcrewjunkie-thanks for the 411. I will try the tape-now that I have every color-sheesh--go crazy!!

  117. Casual-crew:
I just ran across your comment about the cashmere in the other post. I have sweaters from JCrew, made of cotton, from the early to mid 1990's that I can still wear. I wish they would go back to more cotton fitted sweaters, and I love, love, love the milano knit (like the Jamie Jacket and the Milano knit spring coat which I am anxiously awaiting the delivery of...hopefully early next week). I guess I will pass for now or maybe wait and see if there are any at rockbottom to try out. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  118. OT: Ann taylor loft is offering promo code "GOBBLE" which gives 30% of any item + free shipping :) They have some nice sweaters on sale, so I got couple of them for gifts

    ReplyDelete
  119. anon @ 5:23: In my opinion tucking it in is the only way to wear the Isabel blouse unless you want people to think that you are expecting. I got it, but sent it back once I saw how billowy it looked. Even tucked in I did not like the way it looked on me as I am short waisted (it was, however, gorgeous on the model!) HTH.

    ReplyDelete
  120. anon 6:00 - If you can get a good deal on the cashmere it is worth a try, and if there is any quality issues at least you purchased it on sale, and if it is not FS you can always return it.

Lands End has cashmere tees on sale for $50.00 today only, worth checking out if you are interested, another aficionadas posted this earlier today.

I agree with you about the cotton sweaters, I love them also.

  121. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Glad to hear you are working on your doctoral Alexis, that is awesome. Good luck to you. I would like to work on one some day but after working in industry for many more years.

Me and the family will not be getting together this year - we are't fighting, we are just taking a break from doing the Thanksgiving thing - and so I will be mostly wearing J.Crew PJs around the house. When I take my dog out to play I will probably just throw on some cords or jeans and a cargidan with a tee.

Again, I hope everyone enjoys the Holiday!!

  123. Amelia:
Sorry! I thought your comment said you are fighting. Apologies, apologies!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  124. Hi all,

Well, my family is originally from Canada… So Thanksgiving is a little less of a holiday for me than Christmas or new years. That said, I will most likely see the Hubby’s fam in the morning & I plan on wearing mostly Jcrew:

    Coral cord skirt
    Pewter slim shirt
Pine green merino v-neck (4 yrs old)
Blk / grey tweed hacking jacket (about 2 seasons old)

Fun vintage mary jane pumps with brown /black /coral glen plaid & brown leather accents

Like many aficionada’s, I face a challenge with the in-laws. I’m actually trying to tone it down with this outfit. Also, there are nieces & nephews along with various pets that everyone brings— so everything has to be durable. Thankfully, they’ve come to expect me to dress a little differently.

    I started that reputation early along with a habit of being polite & courteous as much as possible; always compliment anyone & everyone on flattering clothing. As long as you can honestly say “Wow, I love that scarf , sweater, pin, etc.” no one seems upset (I hope). Of course, it’s a little hard to say something nice about coveralls – you have my sympathy. One of the things I’m grateful for is a low-key holiday with amiable relatives :}

    Later on in the day the two of us will go out to our favourite restaurant for dinner. (Let’s hear it for no dishes!) I plan on wearing a brown cotton dress from Ann Taylor that I bought a year or so ago. At one point, I saw a guest judge on Top Chef wearing the exact same dress… I was thrilled! In a way, it makes me feel like I can pretend to be a “guest judge” whenever I wear it. Now, that only works when we go out to a restaurant & it’s just me & DH. I would never tell my husband that I thought the appetizer was so-so at his mother’s :}

Oddly enough, I like going out because it allows me to dress up. Unfortunately, this is CA & not everyone agrees with that perspective. Not too long ago we went out to dinner (at a rather nice place) with some friends & ran into the “They’re wearing that?” experience with a group at another table. Our friends are from an older generation & clearly remember a time when people wore a jacket & tie to dinner. One said that he would gladly patronise a restaurant named "Jacket Required". It may seem a bit stuffy to wish that dress codes were still in effect. Even so, I found myself agreeing with them. If the chef has gone to the trouble to prepare a delicious dinner, one should reciprocate by wearing something more appropriate than tattered jeans & rumpled sweats.

Oh & FFM & Cass, I have another shoe stretching tip. If you place a ziplock bag partially full of water into the shoe & freeze it, it might help. The water expands slightly when it transitions from liquid to solid. It only works when you need a little bit o’ stretch. Otherwise, I think a cobbler might be able to help. Mine has a machine that steam-stretches shoes. I’ll admit, I prefer to buy my shoes from Zappos. Their return policies are much more forgiving. Also, they have a rather useful kit at :
    ttp://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7400974/c/603.html

Hope everyone has a great holiday!

    Cheers,

    Heather:D

  125. A - the skirt hits just above my knees (i am 5'7) and it is a very thick weighty material that is just great in cool weather. I tried it in the red color and thought it was too pink for me, but have it in Black and would love it in ivory if the price comes down some!

  126. I ran into a vintage store yesterday and grabbed a few really cute (somewhat sparkly) pieces -jacket, top with ruffles, clutch, so I won't be wearing JCrew for Thanksgiving :(

Having a shoe discussion is a great idea btw-I own many JCrew shoes yet don't wear them anywhere without having my dr sholls cushions with me (+ band aid). Someone on this blog made a comment about JCrew shoes that made me laugh: "they can either be comforable and expensive or uncomfortable and cheap" but not "uncomfortable ad expensive"... :)

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!

  129. need opinions: I think that each one of the pieces is distinct and special...I feel each should be worn with a more basic item, rather than both of them together. The blouse would be beautiful with a pair of dark denim jeans, camel pants, or gray pants. The skirt would look great with a turtleneck, or crew neck tee or sweater...just my thoughts. :) Btw...LOVE both of those items! The Bright Berry is stunning! :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. Off subject but I need some opinions please. I am 5'3", 100 lbs. and normally take a 0 petite. I'm considering the Berry-Trim Astrid Jacket and wondering if it will be too much jacket for me. If not, does anyone know if it runs small or TTS? It's only available in 2 petite online and only in bright blue. Nice color or too bright?

    ReplyDelete
  131. FFM: You're the best! Now that you say it I can see it is too much. I just like both items so much. I've been on JCrew's website for 3 hrs straight now. I'll have to check your site and polyvore for some Christmas outfits. My family does dress, not to the point of ties, etc. but we do try to look nice for our Christmas gathering and I need help figuring out what to wear besides boring old black. I've tried on the Madeline dress and I look good in it (I'm slim and tall) but I don't want to necessarily wear black as usual (or purple). Thanks for your response & Happy Thanksgiving!

  133. suzi: I am 5'4" and 100 pounds and I took the P4 so you should do just fine with a P2. I think that it is a beautiful jacket and not over the top at all (esp. when paired with jeans!) I know that the Bright Blue was the featured color on the back of one of the fall catalogs and it was stunning. I really like the color (I have the Cashmere Boyfriend cardi in that color) because it brings out the blue in my eyes. HTH. :)

  138. For people familiar with landsend cashmere... is the fit as awful as what it looks like in the pictures? I just looked based on someones post about $50 sweaters and honesty I thought all sweaters just looked awful - baggy, unflatering. Is it bad advertisement or just poorly designed product?

    ReplyDelete
  139. OT: I received the wool jersey empire rosette tank (item 10305) today and it seemed kind of short in comparison to other J. Crew tanks (I like my tops to be on the long side). I'm just wondering if there's something wrong with the one I got or if this is how it is supposed to fit? Has anyone else tried this item? Thanks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  140. I accidentally forgot to bring some of my hanging clothes when I drove up to my parents's house for thanksgiving, so I won't look as cute as I intended! I will just end up wearing the birdseye crystal button cardigan in grey with some sort of tank underneath with dark vintage wash mathstick jeans. I *was* going to wear the argyle bow sweater vest with a white button down shirt underneath.

Needs Opinions: I reviewed the Crawford blouse on my blog (just click on my screen name and you should be able to get the link from there). I didn't care for it at all, however it might work for you. And I agree with FFM, it would not at all look good with that mini. A cute turtleneck or crewneck sweater would be better suited for that.

  145. Land's End Sweaters are not baggy on me. I own 5 different styles of their ladies sweaters and my v-neck one is very slim fitting. All the styles fit nice and sleek and slim except the v-neck CARDIGAN and it was not on sale anyway; it is more a boyfriend fit. If you click on the second picture of the model wearing the turtleneck cashmere sweater (there are two pics with models) you can see she has her very slim fitting.

On the other side though, not everyone likes tight fitting clothes. I think the JCREw model wearing the coral Melanie cardigan looks AWFUL....her sweater is so tight and I would not be caught dead in public in something so skin tight....

    ReplyDelete
  146. P.S. I ordered 5 of the Land's End cashmere sweaters yesterday. They even had a color similar to the light spearmint:)

    ReplyDelete
  150. Anony@8:31.
Have you ever personally tried any of it on?

I have and it fits very close to my body and look nice. I get compliments on it at work a lot. "Wow, that's a nice sweater. Where did you get it?" The quality is amazing.

If you have never tried it then don't just look at the model. We all know even JCrew's items do not look like the models once it is put on....

  151. OT: Can someone tell me how the velvet ecole fits? I wear a Tall 8 in most coats and blazers should I order that in an ecole?

    ReplyDelete
  152. I have to agree about the Land's End ~ its just not my style, too matronly and full cut, but, I cannot say abt the quality of the cashmere, could DEF beat JCrew, don't know. I like Ann Taylor & ATL sweaters also.

    ReplyDelete
  153. The velvet ecole is TTS, so buy what your regular size is.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Anon at 9:55 AM. Thats exactly the word I was looking for landsend cashmere: matronly!

No, I have not tried their cashmere sweaters, I did go into their store a few times and thats exactly what it loos like.. very old ladish.

Actually most jcrew things fit on me like like they do on the models. Maybe it has something to do with me being size 2 or having standard figure. I never have to get anything tailored. It almost seems like jcrew took my measurements and is making clothes just for me. :) I am just blessed to have standard figure I guess.

  157. Considering I am 5'11" and weigh 130 lbs and a model in Chicago in my 20's (now 30's) I am anything but matronly that is for sure!

Still Love Land's End cashmere! (and I am still working as a fit model by the way) LOL at you and calling Land's End matronly.

    Whatever...to each his own:)

    ReplyDelete
  158. I have to agree with the other poster. Land's End cashmere is not matronly and the quality beats JCrew by a mile. (Plus, their return policy has no time limit.)

It is the SAME style...crewneck, turtleneck, v-neck as JCrew...Maybe the fit is slightly looser looking from the model but it looks comfy to me:)and skims the body.

One of JCrew's current holiday sweater offering is EXACTLY like a sweater my grandmother wore in the 80's. Talk about old fashioned. Some of JCrew's stuff is really retro:) Yes, some grandmother's are fashion plates and some are not but that one JCrew sweater with all the little disks is just scary no matter what age you are:)

  159. I really want to love LandsEnd. They are such a customer-friendly company, and my parents wear alot of their stuff. Their cashmere is very high quality, and they have alot of great colors. However, I must agree with some comments about the fit. It is boxy compared to JCrew. This larger fit does appeal to some people, not that there's anything wrong with that). I just wish the sweaters had a closer-to-the-body fit and a little more length.

  160. anon @ 8:39: For me the Velvet Ecole did not fit TTS and I had to size up one size. I am usually a 0 and had to take a 2 so that it wouldn't be too snug across the back.

  161. anon @ 12:58: I have most of J Crew's boots (Rivington, Brewster, Glenbrae) and although I do love them I would consider Cole Haan's boots to be better in terms of quality and comfort. My one pair of Cole Haan boots is the most comfortable pair that I own even though it has the highest heel! HTH. :)

  162. I desperately need some help. I'm going to be wearing the Merino Chiffon Sequin Shell in the Putty this weekend and I don't know what color cardigan to pair it with. I'm headed to J Crew tomorrow to pick up a Cardi. What color would you recommend? Sea Salt? Ivory? Champagne? Putty? What would be best? I'll be wearing a dark bottom. TIA!!

  164. actually, i guess we'll get used to the name "toothpick"...just like matchstick :)

  165. Toothpick jeans?!?! Eeewww! Even Kate Moss would look like a sausage in those!

  166. I'm doing the dream sylvie dress in heather grey with a black tissue turtleneck, black tights, and the glenbrae tall flat boots in black suede. Thinking maybe metallic gold belt.
Happy Thanksgiving to everybody, enjoy your holiday!

  167. Can anyone give me their opinion on the Glenbrae boots. I am debating between the leather & the suede. Are they comfortable? Are they TTS?

Regarding the Velvet Ecole, I went up one size (6). I bought a size 4 in the Astrid, but the Ecole seemed tight in the size 4 so I went up a size. Hope that helps.

  168. Lands End cashmere is not matronly, their tees could be a little bit longer in length, but the quality is superior to J Crew's and the style is not bad.

The fitted look is going out of style, even J Crew's cashmere tees have more room at the waist this year.

  169. OT- Does anyone have High-waisted denim pencil skirt? Is it TTS? I am wondering if I should size up...

    ReplyDelete
  170. high waisted fits tts to slightly large. no need to size up.

  171. Does anyone have a star pin? How does it look like? Is it big? Does it look really like plastic?

Thank you very much for your quick response! I do appreciate it. Now I can order:)

  173. Kalimarie - I have the Glenbrae boots in leather and I wish I'd bought them in suede too (they just sold out in my size online - boo!). They're TTS and I love that they're calves aren't quite as big as previous years' boots I have. They're my favorite J.Crew boots of the five pairs I have!

Enjoying my Thanksgiving in AG cords, last year's J.Crew stiped tuxedo shirt and last season's charcoal snap cardi with black grosgrain detail. Layered long J.Crew necklaces and brown Circa peep-toe heels too. Thank god the pants have stretch ...

    Happy Turkey Day to all!

  175. Just my two cents re: Land's End cashmere: I was also worried about the crewneck sweater being boxy, based on the pictures. So, here's what I'm hoping is a good solution -- though I haven't received them yet so can't confirm. I'm usually a medium/6. Because Land's End runs slightly larger (they call Medium a 10-12), I went down a size, BUT since I'm nearly 5'7" I worried the sweater would be too short -- so I ordered a TALL small. This adds length to the sleeves and overall length, but will give me a more fitted bust area (I believe it's 36" for a tall small, versus something like 38.5" for a regular medium). Arm length for a tall small is also similar to a regular medium, as is overall length -- I compared, and found the difference is minor (maybe 0.5" or so).

SO, I'm hoping to get a better fit by ordering that way -- we'll see. Fingers crossed, because I ordered two! (Ivory, and a sort of eggplant color.)

I hope everyone's having a nice Thanksgiving -- I've got a shopping cart full of J.Crew clothes, but am waiting until tomorrow to buy in case they have any additional Black Friday discounts!!!

  178. OK, back from the in-laws. I wore the Buttercup Tartine instead of my Honey Glaze Jackie (see previous post for complete outfit). Also wore my Navy Double Serge Tuesday Trench and carried the Buttercup Owen Hobo (they look FANTASTIC together). I love the hobo, but it is nearly impossible to get anything out of it quickly. I went to get my cellphone and the top of the bag is so narrow that it took me a full 5 minutes of rooting around before I was able to retrieve it!

  179. Anon @ 4:55: I have the faux topaz pin and I love it. It doesn't look like plastic and the orange color goes well with alot of things, surprisingly. I have been wearing it on a navy velvet jcrew blazer from fall 05. It isn't too big but it's definitely bigger than most pins people wear... but not overwhelming. It is pretty heavy. I think the topaz is one of the bigger ones of the bunch so if you get one of the other ones which are smaller, size shouldn't be an issue.

  180. any thoughts on the color 'light spearming' ? I think it is gorgeous, but Im not sure it goes with my coloring. I have a fair-medium warm skin tone, dark blonde hair, and blue- grey eyes. I got the cashmere eva sweater...I couldn't resist the color. I usually look best in blues, brown, camel, and ivory.

    Thoughts? Be honest!

  181. I am considering getting the "Glenbrae" suede boots in gray. Can anyone please give me their thoughts on if the calf opening is wide or narrow! I have skinny calves and am hesitating on ordering these if they run on the big side!
    Thanks!!

  182. Kendra: I just received the cambridge cable crewneck cardigan in light spearmint and I love the color. I think it would go with any skin/hair coloring. I also think that the color seems somewhat darker IRL than it appears on my computer screen.

  183. Hey all,

I am going to Wrentham Outlets at midnight, does anyone know of any specific deals or savings there will be at J.Crew (or any other store)? Thanks!

  184. Happy Thanksgiving all! I did end up going to see my parents and wore the dream Sylvie dress - charcoal - with some black tights and I wore a striped J.Crew shirt underneath.

I am soo stuffed right now...

  185. I definitely buy a few Lands End pieces. Yes, I'll admit, some are matronly, but many are great if you size down. I usually wear a size 6 in most brands, but some Lande End extra small tops fit nicely -- slim fitted, but not too tight. I have a cashmere sweater bought last year that looks brand new. The quality and prices are great, and some of the pieces fit well for younger, more stylish customers.

  186. anon @ 12:58 -- I have J. Crew boots and Cole Haan boots. While I love both of them, the big advantage Cole Haan Boots have over J. Crew boots is the Nike padding. That said, I have two pairs of J. Crew Richmond boots and can wear them all day for days in a row without my feet hurting. I find myself scouring Ebay for another pair so I have a backup.

  187. Kitchy 7: I remember your posting that you ordered or were planning to order the Renee roses coat. Do you like it? Would you be able to comment on the fit, color, and warmth? I have been watching this coat for a while but decided to order the Greta instead, though it's still under consideration.:) Love the pattern.

    TIA!

Thank you very much for your review about pins. It sounds really cute to wear a navy velvet blazer with a topaz pin!! Also thanks for your advice about their sizes. I will purchase one!

  189. Another enabler alert!

Cole Haan is offering 30% off your entire purchase this weekend, in stores and online, starting midnight tonight (Black Friday) through Sunday, Nov. 30. Code: CHSALE30. The email doesn't say anything about bringing it in to the stores, and it doesn't have a bar code, so you can probably just mention it in stores. Happy shopping!

  190. Cleo26 -- I've been caught up in holiday stuff. Will write the review tomorrow morning, I promise!

But quickly, it's between TTS and roomy (they call it a "generous fit," apparently), gorgeous, but not very warm. More like a thick trench coat weight than a winter coat. Beautiful for spring and fall though.

  191. I have had 7 items in my shopping bag since Wed. morning and nothing has gone down in quantity except 1 item went down 1...I am watching and waiting...I think the best online sales are yet to come...

It seems like there are a lot of sale items and nothing is going fast at all.

  196. The quality of Land's End cashmere is great. However, I have issues with their sizing. I wish they had an XXS in some items because I find most of their xs sweaters have 34 inch bust which would make them a small anywhere else. And their sleeves tend to be very short on the smaller sizes, so that if they do not come in a tall, I am out of luck on items with long sleeves.

I do think most of the Land's End models look like their clothing is too big, and a lot of the J Crew models look like their clothing is too tight. I like a look somewhere in between the two extremes. Fitted, but skimming over my body rather than clinging. Sometimes they style J Crew models with cardis that could not possibly button and I think that looks terrible.

I do have a few xs tees from Land's End and a 3/4 sleeve boatneck and they are great - not matronly at all. A cashmere tee is a cashmere tee and the boxiness can be fixed by sizing down as long as one is not on the smallest end of the sizes. And Land's End at least doesn't look worn out after two wearings.

I also just ordered the Claudia pumps in metallic sherbet, and I am so excited! I have been coveting them for a while now! What are you planning to wear with yours? Thanks for any suggestions.
