"Thanks!" to many of you, including Silver_Lining (in this post), RatsOnParade (in this post), & Marietta, who let us know about the following email & news.
J.Crew announced that the reign of "Final Sale" will end in 5 days, on April 13, 2010. {wahoo!} To shop Final Sale online now, click here.
Let me begin by stating that I l-o-v-e this news. I am thrilled that the "Final" in "Final Sale" will end. With that said, I don't understand marketing's push to shop now. Um... I think I will wait 5 more days {if I can}, thank you very much! ;)
Did you get the email? What are your thoughts on the email itself (e.g. its message)? Are you happy with the news that Final Sale will end?
You're so right Alexis - it's nonsensical! It isn't like the prices are sooooo low that they're worth the risk...
ReplyDeletehahaha...I actually laughed out loud on this one. Yes, Alexis, I am with you. I will WAIT 5 days to shop just so it is NOT final sale. As if anyone really gets excited over the fact that you're shopping with a high risk of wasting money?? Pass for me. But good try, J.Crew :) Maybe someone will fall for it!
ReplyDeleteI agree - I will definitely wait 5 days for sure. Who loves "FINAL" sale?
ReplyDeleteThis push makes no sense. I feel like it would decrease sales now until the dreaded "Final Sale" label is removed. They can't just take all the merch away for it to be unavailable forever. Odd move.

This is good news I hate FS and do not shop from it.
ReplyDeleteO/T J Crew send me 6 March catalogs with expired 20% codes in 4 of them. Talk about a waste! I shopped alot in March I could have used these codes.
Yeah! The dreaded final sale is coming to an end! I've really cut back drastically on final sales these days so I am super happy that its going to end.
ReplyDeleteI have complained many times to CS over the phone about FINAL SALE and how it doesn't make sense to put newly marked down items there. Maybe they've got enough complaints?
ReplyDeleteI will so wait for this dreaded FS to be OVER!
Might I be mistaken, but does this perhaps mean the Sale section will be gone entirely until further notice?
ReplyDeleteBelle de jour: For a split second, I thought the same thing! But I don't think with all the merchandise left in sale, they would remove it altogether.

ReplyDeleteI am so glad it will finally be gone again, at least for a few months.
ReplyDeleteWTH happens in five days? Prices go up? "Final Sale" ends and it becomes regular, returnable sale? Or does it all get shipped out to the Crewlets?
ReplyDeleteWhat a weird e-mail. I agree with the rest of your ladies - OK, JC, thanks for your e-mail, I'll wait to shop now.
ReplyDeleteHexicon - I wondered the same thing. My guess is, since it's not final, prices might go up? Who knows - it's such an odd email.
ReplyDeleteSlightly OT, but I ordered the Vintage Bateau top today with the 20% off, but sadly it's backordered till June, boo! I also bit on the Minnie stretch twill pants...I've been curious about them and some of the JCA's reviews were encouraging for someone like me with less-than-modelesque legs :)
ReplyDeleteYes, not getting the 'hurry' part of this email. Hurry up and stop-don't push that button...and wait five days so you don't lose your cash in the fs abyss.
ReplyDeleteDoes the inexperienced JCrew shopper really think the entire sale section will be cleared out in five days? I don't get this marketing tactic either.
OT: Did anyone see this adorable crewcuts video? Even if it's not the official, it's pretty cute :)

Clicquot: I also ordered the Vintage Bateau top with the 20% off. I'm sad that it's backordered, but hey, at least we got it on sale w/free shipping! That was my justification, at least :)
ReplyDeleteThis is as good as that email they sent out a few months back, announcing something to the effect of "What you've been waiting for is here - final sale!" Bite me, j.crew.
ReplyDeleteI don't buy from their final sale online, and rarely even in stores. It's ridiculous an item can go straight from full price to final sale. AT does do final sale, but it's only with items that already have gone through regular markdowns.
I'm thinking this current FS will end in 5 days to make way for a new FS with some updates.
ReplyDeleteThis definitely had me scratching my head.
ReplyDeleteI think they really mean only 5 days left "until sale is an additional 20-30% off, which will make you feel like a dummy for buying it now."
ReplyDeleteIf the "final sale" ends in 5 days, shouldn't they be offering some dramatic price cuts so they can get rid of the leftovers no one wants? Isn't that how it usually works at other stores?
ReplyDeleteShellye, I think you're onto something!
ReplyDeleteGood riddance to final sale. Now if they'd start lowering the $ for the free ship codes, I'd think they were heeding our grumbles.
OT: While doing returns today, I saw a few markdowns. Sunshine peony cardis and Celosias were $70, only one CBR Celosia, an M but lots of the peonys. There was short sleeve shift dress with a braid trim at the neckline reduced to $40, I'd never noticed it before. Lots of jewelry, but DD found some stones on the floor in front of the display so I'd check before you buy.
I ordered a couple of things that arrived and I don't like them/they don't fit but are not marked Final Sale anywhere on the tags, bags or receipt. I am planing to return them (as I have done may times with sale items) and don't anticipate a problem. It's weird they call it final sale when those items that don't sell by the 13th will still be there afterwards!
ReplyDeleteI got the email and actually laughed. Hurry up and shop before it's returnable!!
ReplyDeleteCall me an idiot, but I took the plunge on the Drapey Wool MacKenzie and the Twyla dress. They were $60 each! I couldn't afford NOT to buy them. Plus I can't imagine they'd let them go lower (like with an additional 20%), but I fully admit I may be eating my words.
ReplyDeleteAnd the dream turtleneck popped back in a Dusty Blossom in my size. I've been able to return a lot of my "final sale" stuff, so maybe I'm just feeling sassy.
this email confused me so much because it makes you think that if you don't shop the final sale within the next 5 days, there will be NO sale at all.
ReplyDeleteShellye-LOL!
ReplyDeleteOr are they going to send the stuff over to Net-a-porter ?!
ReplyDeleteClicquot: I just got my pair of Minnies in the mail yesterday (the dark gray). They're cute, but not me. THey're more like thick leggings than pants. I can see why some people like them, they're a cool length, nice fabric, but I just wouldnt' feel comfortable wearing them with anything other than a tunic top. No thanks.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the FS bit. I want to know where my $25 coupon is. Lord knows I've earned it.
ReplyDeleteI did get the pale lilac Laporte top on sale. Very pretty. I'm wearing it tomorrow with cargos and heels.
Do they do price adjustments on sale merchandise? I'm guessing no. Also, the watercolor pastiche pencil skirts are on the sale rack at the 45th & Madison store in NYC. I forgot to check the sale price but there were about 10 skirts on the rack. It's still FP online.
ReplyDeleteI bought the rose vines swimsuit, but only because I purchased it for full price last month, yay to 60 day return policy.
ReplyDeleteJust FYI, new markdowns were taken in stores early this morning. I scooped up the merino boyfriend sweater for $30 and herrigbone tights for $5. And none of the sale stuff in the stores is final sale.
ReplyDeleteI am very curious to see what will happen in 5 days. Will they remove dreaded final sale and raise prices? Remove sale altogether? Very interesting. I'm gonna order as much as I can to make sure I have all the things I need that aren't returnable. *slaps knee*
ReplyDeleteOT - I have a vintage zebra Blakely dress, size 4. It is NWT. I'll sell it for $136 (what I paid inc. tax) plus shipping. I can still return it, but since it is sold on in this size, though I'd offer it here.
ReplyDeleteemail kjohnson@parsonsbehle.com
Lauren PhD, at what store did you find the merino boyfriend sweater for such a great price? I have been dying for it but it's still FP online, and all the stores I've visited no longer have it in stock!
ReplyDeleteStephanie - I saw the watercolor pastiche skirt too at Pioneer Place in Portland, $69.99 I think. Also the shorts, and the Pastel Petals Perfect Shirt were in the sale section.
ReplyDeleteFor the person above who just got several March catalogs with expired coupons -- call JCrew CS and let them know that by the time you received the catalog, the coupon had expired; they may use the "one time courtesy" line, but they'll honor it.
ReplyDeleteBizarre e-mail J crew??? Not sure what to make of it- I have fingers crossed for 40% off + Free shipping:) and no Final sale!
ReplyDeleteOff Topic- I saw a few Tweed Contessa jackets today in a B&M sale section while I was out of town on Business. I believe they were size 0 & 2- not my size and I recall that someone was looking for this jacket??
If so e-mail me @ elisdav (at) hotmail (dot) com
Twiga, yes, I agree. 40%, let it be!. There is power in numbers. ;-)
ReplyDeleteA confession....back before I became a regular JCA, JCrew would send me a "Final Sale" email once in a blue moon, and I am ashamed to say that I immediately went to the website and excitedly shopped away. I got some great stuff, and I got some complete crap!
ReplyDeleteI think JCrew sends these emails out in the hopes of luring in some novice JCrew shoppers who haven't yet been burned by the many ill-fitting, previously-worn rejects lurking around in the "Final Sale."
But, even though we all know better, we just can't help ourselves sometimes and we still fall victim to the "Final Sale."
JCK,
ReplyDeleteYes, I used to shop it too and now I don't. I got too much crap and weird items. Now my closet has so much JC I can be very discrimminating and let things go and if it sells out before sale I know there will be pretty things to replace it soon in a week or month or less!
This email really bothered me. I thought I wasn't "getting it" as I didn't see the down-side to final sale being gone. So, I sent them an email...
ReplyDelete"I received an email today saying that final sale will be over in 5 days.
What happens in 5 days? Are sale items being removed from the site?
Going back up to full price? Able to be returned again?
I guess I just don't understand the email."
This was the response I received...
"Hello,
Sorry to hear there was any confusion regarding our sale site -happy to help clarify.
While our sale section will remain online, the items will no longer be noted as final sale. Items currently on our sale site are available in limited quantities and will sell out soon. Our spring sale site, however, will be up shortly."
So, there it is, you will shortly be able to RETURN AGAIN!!
Nichi - Thanks for the info. What we still don't know is if some of the items will jerk around in price. There are people still hoping for the downtown field jacket, which went down to $59.99 and then became available again at full price. I think that's one example of a few that has me curious about what to expect. Maybe there will be new markdowns, too.
ReplyDeleteI *do* know that new arrivals are set for next Tuesday, according to my b&m ps.
Something seems very strange with the JCrew Web site. The watercolor floral pastiche pencil skirt is not showing up on the site unless you search for it. Then when you click on a size, it shows the "Final Sale" message even though the skirt is listed at full price. How can the skirt be moving to final sale already?
