A big "thanks!" to kitchy7, and Nikki (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew is offering free shipping with purchases of $150+ with promo code BT-60. This offer expires 11/22/08.
I thought that the promo for sweaters was being taken off automatically. I was SUPER excited because I thought that I would be able to use a free shipping code as well. BOOOOOOOO.
Did a mock checkout and both codes do not work, just one. This is very disheartening. I was sure that since the deductions for sweaters (as of this morning) were automatic then the free ship code would be the "icing on the cake".
Unfortunately it's one or the other, unless you go into the store and use the red phone. I think it's ridiculous that people who live so far away from a store (I'm 1 hr 15 minutes away from the nearest one) essentially get penalized. I'm not going to waste $15 worth of gas to go into the store to get free shipping, ma as well just pay the shipping fee. Ridiculous.
Another instance of inconsistent JCrew CS- I placed two orders this morning and just called to get a credit for free shipping for both. The first CS rep I talked to said this code does not exist in their system. The second processed the adjustments quickly, with no problems. Best advice: If at first you don't succeed, call call again. :)
you're welcome FFM! I couldn't decide whether to take the plunge and buy the watercolor leopard coat, and then I found the free shipping code and that made the difference!
Sorry, OT: I just came from the Tyson's, VA B&M (703 734 9555), and they have tons of items on sale! (Although most of these pieces ARE still on the website, I thought I'd share. :) )

Tissue sequin-placket henley: $29.99 (On the site, it's only $29.50 though.) 8. Tees with "Party Etiquette"/"Dance Etiquette" metallic print: $29.99 9. Enamel link necklaces (both single-/tri-color) 10. Bauble bracelets 11. A few Star pins (various colors): $19.99 12: Penelope flats (different colors and sizes): $69.99 13. ONE pair of ember Spectator Mary Jane peeptoe heels in size 7: $119.99 14: Penelope heels, mostly in silver/yellow: $79.99, I think 15. Crystal-button bird's-eye cardigan, in graphite silver: $89.99 16. Emerson blouses (in all colors & sizes): $59.99 (On the site, $59.50.) 17. Velvet ecoles, in honey glaze and tawny olive: $98.00 16. City-fit Watson pants: $59.99 ($59.50 on the site)
drewablank: Are you sure it's the Shipley? I only ask because it is marked as a catalog / website item only. I am wondering if it is common for something marked as such to end up on display in a store for sale (versus a return that makes it into the store's sale racks). Thanks!
Melanie: I was wondering that myself, but if it's not the Shipley, it sure looks like it! I've been looking at all the recent catalogs and the website, and the Shipley is the coat it looks like.
It's got four pockets in front like the Shipley, and that's what made it stand out for me. Is there another coat structured like that? I'm curious too. :)
drewablank, I'm the crazy person dying for the strapless abstract rose dress. Unfortunately I need a 0. Thanks for reporting your finds! I haven't given up hope, I keep thinking someone is going to return it and I'll get a shot.
If anyone missed out on the Persimmon Clea Jacket, #96634, it looks like they have a size 4 left-type in the item number. No extra 30%, but if you want it......
Isn't tonite the BIG J. Crew event with Jenna Lyons at The Collection Store? Hoping someone attended and can tell us all about it! Congrats to those who got the invite! :)
desertflower: Aw, sorry 'bout that! I was kinda hoping it would be a 10 someone needed. If I see anything, I'll keep you in mind! ;)
amy: Unfortunately, I didn't see any of the camel University pants on sale. :( A lot of the darker ones - the checked, the silvered tweed, herringbone, chalk stripe.
nancy: The colors of the cords were, if I recall, green (the dark one, I think it's called pine bough and the brighter green one, like a kelly green), deep persimmon (bright reddish orange), yellow (the golden shade, not the citron)....HTH! :)
Just to comment on what someone else said in a previous post...I received the Dream Silvie dress today in the mail, much to my excitement because I think it's the perfect dress for fall winter layering, BUT I ordered this from a B&M because I wanted it on the 50% off Final Sale, but couldn't get there in time. Long story short, when it arrived today, I noticed that on the receipt, the item rings up as the "Star Stella" dress...but on the website and in the catalog it's the "Dream Silvie" dress. AND, I checked the item number on the website, and on the tag on the dress, and it's the SAME item number. I know some others posted about this, and wanted to find out if anyone knows why they name them differently, especially when it's DEFINITELY the same item number??? So strange....
Anon @8:44: I just saw the Lucinda in black; there was one more coat next to it but didn't notice what kind of coat and can't remember what color. :p It IS a big difference! If I was in the market for a new black coat, I'd totally buy it, but I have my black Haverhill from a couple of seasons ago and I love it!
nonickname: I've noticed that too. I've also noticed that in magazines some J.Crew items are said to be named something and then when the catalog comes out, it's the same exact item but different name? I can't remember which particular piece I noticed that with...but yeah, it is a little peculiar.
OT, Alexis I assume you got the email about the Stamford (CT) store opening? No discount in the store opening email. I swear, I moved down to NYC to have all these stores closer and now I would have been fine just staying in Norwalk! =)
Hi Roxy! No I did not receive that email. Do you mind sending me it (at jcrewaficionada@yahoo.com)?
I swear I get only a fraction of J.Crew emails (even though I have asked several times to receive all of them). Thank goodness for the kind members of the blog who share with one another. :)
drewablank: Thanks for the update! I have to also say, I didn't even realize the Lucinda had 4 pockets until you said so. They don't stand out too much at all.
desert flower-I have a size 2 coming--if it doesn't work are you interested? Perhaps altering it? Not sure how it runs so cannot tell if it will fit me, be too small/big--ya know J Crew! Just let me know and I can contact you (even with measurements) if you haven't already tried it on yourself.
melanie: LOL! I guess they pockets stood out for me because none of the other J.Crew coats have pockets like that; they're all usually angled or on-the-seam pockets. :) But the pockets don't "stand out" in a bad way; it gives the coat a more vintage-y look. :)
covert5: the high-waisted denim pencil skirt ran HUGE on me, although others have commented that it runs TTS. Although I can wear my usual size in some Jcrew skirts (like their Super 120's suiting), the usual size in the denim pencil was way too big. I called CS and they said that the waist for a 4 = 30.5, 6=31.5 and 8=32.5. HTH!
^Thank you!So maybe size down 2 sizes (I already sz down one size in their skirts) but esp in this case if I want to wear it higher on the waist--not low.
covert5: There is a post that discusses the Ruffled Mandarin. I purchased it in the past but didn't keep it because of its boxy, cropped shape, itchiness, and lack of lining.
TOTALLY OT- but, I know gap, old navy and BR are having their FF starting 11/13. Anybody have a code they can forward to me? acarosi@mail.uri.edu. Thanks in advance!
Hello! Has anyone seen the Penelope peep toe pumps in size 11 in a store? Hoping someone may have returned a catalog order. I'm looking for the ones that have cream, red and I believe grey/black. Thx.
First, I'm so glad I found this blog, very informative.
I am going to a JCrew outlet store on Saturday and I'm not sure what to expect. I went to one years ago. I'm wondering if they carry the jewelry there or is it mainly the lower end items from a year ago? Any help appreciated, thanks!
I got my usual size in the high waisted pencil skirt. I think the sizing depends on where you want the waist to hit. On me it hits right under the belly button but I have to get about 3" taken off the hem because I am 5"4"
sarah: J.Crew outlet = LOTS of sweaters, and outerwear too. I just bought an adorable jacket there which I love and it resembles the Norfolk jacket from last season in grey herringbone. Expect lots of very cute jewelry, nothing from the actual lines of regular J.Crew, but they have really made a conscious effort to improve the jewelry at the outlets. I don't find their sales that great, but you can almost always find great stuff on the clearance rack, which always has an additional percentage off. They have great basics too like tissue turtlenecks, scarves, mittens, socks, winter hats, and waffle t's and such. Happy Shopping, I'm going to Woodbury myself this weekend!! Can't wait, I've never been. Anyone have any advice for navigating this mecca??
nonickname: Woodbury is AMAZING! Start at one end and be sure to walk the entire outlet- get a map, they have them available in lots of spots. The designer stores that are a must: Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, Joe's and Lucky Jeans, to name a few. Williams Sonoma and Crate and Barrel are sweet too. Have fun!!! I'm planning a trip for January, it's well worth the drive from Southern CT.
nonickname: thanks for the info. sounds like I can expect some familiar items and a few outlets only items. Looking forward to seeing their jewelry as the B&M jewelry is usually too pricey until it goes on sale. Thanks!
nonickname: weekends are really busy at woodbury, so be prepared for crowds (especially in the afternoons). get a map to familiarize yourself with the layout. I find the 'red' and "grape" courts most interesting. And remember to pick up a coupon book because you will get additonal savings. happy shopping!
Dear J.Crew Aficionadas & Aficionados: Please feel free (and encouraged) to share your thoughts and opinions. :) However, please note that this is still a personal blog. So comments that are considered inappropriate (e.g. obscene, racist, homophobic, personal attacks, rude, and just plain mean) will be removed.
Now if only they would take the 20% off the sweaters automatically. Because with the free shipping code I might actually order a few sweaters...
ReplyDeleteI can't get both this and the SWEATERS to apply at the same time- looks like it's one or the other!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else have any luck?
I thought that the promo for sweaters was being taken off automatically. I was SUPER excited because I thought that I would be able to use a free shipping code as well. BOOOOOOOO.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the code. I don't have any sweaters on my wish list, but plenty of other items so this is greatly appreciated.

^Item #19: They had more than ONE Shipley coat (I made it sound like they only had one. :p).
ReplyDeletedrewablank: Are you sure it's the Shipley? I only ask because it is marked as a catalog / website item only. I am wondering if it is common for something marked as such to end up on display in a store for sale (versus a return that makes it into the store's sale racks). Thanks!

ReplyDeleteDrewablank,
ReplyDeleteIs the lucinda coat on sale for $199 in all the colors or just black? On the website it's on sale for $300, which is a huge difference! Thanks!
