Free Shipping Code Update

Many of our visitors here, like Slastena, Five Tomatoes, Rach, Heather C., have noted (in the "Buy & Review: What did you get during the Sale?" post) that the code IJN-160 seems to have expired today. As Lynn and Naomi noted, the code was printed/ offered in their catalog with the expiration date of July 5th.

I am not sure what happened here. If you have an order over $100, I am sure you can call customer service and explain the situation to get free shipping.

Frankly, I am disappointed that J.Crew decided to remove this code (especially during their "additional 25% off" sale). :( I am hoping that this is a glitch in their system, and that the code will soon work again.

Let us know if the code did/ did not work for you. Also, if you called customer service about this code situation, did they resolve the issue for you?

  1. I placed an order this morning, but I'm going to wait to call until my order is showing up under my account. In the past, they haven't been able to do much to help me before my order number is processed.

  2. Lynn: I think that is a smart move- to wait until the order shows up and have them "fix" the error. Hopefully they will honor the code. Please let us know what happens. :)

  3. I also just tried to use the code and am getting an "expired" message. I believe that is the same one I received in a catalog a few weeks ago... I tried using the catalog code on an order then, and although it was well before the stated expiration date, the website told me it was expired. I ended up ordering more and used a shipping code with a higher minimum, but this time I don't want to order much more than $100 worth... I hope they get this fixed - sizes & colors are flying off the site!

  4. One good thing about the sales on the JCrew site is that it does inspire me to wake up earlier!

Another idea I had about shipping is that JCrew could do something like the Amazon Prime program, where you pay $75 per year for 2-day shipping on all your orders.

I think that would be a great solution so that dedicated JCrew lovers could ensure reasonably priced, fast shipping!

  5. It seems like a pattern with J.Crew to have a coupon code expire the day before a sale ends, and then add tons of new items the last day of the sale...I've seen it numerous times before, so I wouldn't put it past them this time around...it's just really wrong of them to give a 7/5/08expiration date and then remove it today, forcing customers to either pay for shipping, buy $150 worth of merchandise to get free shipping, or just buy nothing at all...shame on them!

  6. Shoppinginseattle-
I would recommend going ahead and placing the order, then calling them afterwards to fix it. If you have high-demand items in your cart, there's a good possibility they will disappear.

    ReplyDelete
  7. shoppinginseattle: That's exactly the issue! Who can afford to stop & call knowing, if you take that precious five minutes the desired treasure will have been seized from your cart! They have us hook, line & sinker. I upped my order $50.

I just used the code yesterday afternoon so it was working. I hope they are not so devious as to purposely take it down .

!!!Let's all be sure to contact them & complain!!!

Hopefully there's a reasonable explanation & we'll all be issued free shipping codes-no minimum!!

  8. I placed 2 orders this morning and the code didn't work for me, so I ended up calling in to customer service to see if they could combine the orders (which they couldn't b/c to do that you have to cancel one and then add the items in the order to the first one, and my items were out of stock). So what they ended up doing, was b/c my combined total was > $100 minimum, they gave me the free shipping on both orders.

According to customer service, it is a glitch in their system and the coupon is supposed to expire 7/5 which is consistent with the catalogue I have...

  9. Btw if any of you did add $50 more merch that you don't want/aren't sure of, call in and ask for the $100 shipping code to be applied since it is a system glitch preventing it from being applied online, and cancel the items you don't need (to up the order total) from your order over the phone. Its not a problem, if you cancel items within a few hours of placing your order

Although I have to say they are getting faster and faster at order processing, I called in to cancel a sweater from an order I placed yesterday that I was unsure about, and its already boxed and on the UPS truck this morning! But the associate I spoke to did put a note on my order allowing me to return this sweater and also free return shipping if I would like to return it, since I did try to cancel the item from my order. That was really nice of Jcrew...

  10. Remmber JCrew is trying to make money! They don't have to offer free shipping because they know people will buy it regardeless.. and we do. Just like Abercrombie.. they NEVER have coupons, discounts, free shipping codes, etc. because they know people will buy it no matter what. There is a reason JCrew barly advirtises. They don't have to. I hope they get this glitch fixed soon though.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Shppinginseattle: I hope you are able to return the "additional" items you do not want. It is unfair you had to bump up your order total because the code didn't work properly.

PixelGirl: I hear what you are saying about waking up early! ;)

FabulousFloridaMommy: That is a good catch- I didn't realize about the expiration of codes on the last day of the sale- but it totally makes sense now I think about.

Rach: I agree about calling them to complain about this "glitch". :)

A: THANK YOU SO MUCH- for calling and letting us know what happened! I am happy to hear that the code should still work (hopefully).

  12. 7 am PST, just tried to use the code online and it is still coming up as invalid.

  13. Glad to help!

I've been checking jcrew's website religiously every morning for the last week b/c I really wanted the emily blouse in the bunny print...I just got it this morning so hopefully now I'll be able to sleep in and my credit cards will get some rest :)

The stress associated with these Jcrew sales is getting to me as well! Placing items in your shopping basket only to have them disappear is so frustrating and the only way around that is with multiple orders...which means more shipping! But (knock on wood) Jcrew customer service has worked with me on this one...so all is good!

  14. I do hope it is just a "glitch", and that this Final Sale will be over before it truly does expire...I would love to pick up a few more items other's have reviewed on here, but I'd rather do it when the purchase is not final. :)

Glad to know that Customer Service is being accomodating this morning, too!

Congrats on all the great purchases...I was surprisingly disciplined this morning and didn't place an order...it was very painful, too!

  15. I got some great deals this morning-
    Slub fleece zip hoodie $15
    Striped Emily blouse $15
City-fit prima stretch wool pinstripe trouser $30 (originally $175!!!!)
City-fit prima stretch wool solid trouser $30 (originally $165)
    Solid Nauset swim trunks $22.50

I had been eyeing those suit pants forever, and they finally had the colors and sizes I wanted, plus the 25% off. I just hope I love it all because it's final sale!!

  16. Where in the catalogue is the free shipping code? I learned this morning from CS that returns get posted wednesday morning so that is why things seem to magically appear wednesday mornings. I just bought a shrunken shawl collar cashemere cardi for my boss as it was plucked from her bag yesterday. Actually she spent about 15mins on the phone with CS ths morning trying to get them to cancel her desperate full price purchase of a cashmere cardigan and they said it had shipped. We are both a little frustrated by this since it takes at least a week to get it to Canada. So now she has to pay for the return. Just our experience here at the office today.

  17. Yogichicki-
It was printed on a card that was attached to the catalog right after the first page.

  18. I just called J.Crew customer service, and since my order was over $100, the rep applied the IJN-160 code to my order. I'm really glad that they're honoring what was printed in the catalog!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm glad they will honor the code! I emailed, but didn't hear back yet and while working out my shopping cart the embossed beach dress in brown sold out in my size... my cart was then whittled down to just two items and under $100 and I just couldn't pay $10.50 shipping for two little items! So, no sale for me today!

  20. I just got the linen V-neck ruffle tank in navy! I am so happy it went on sale! Does anyone have it? Does it run true to size? I saw it in the store but didn't try it on when I was there. If you guys know the answer let me know so I can call if I need to. I am just concerned that it runs super big like the merino ruffle blouse did that I had to order in an xs. Thanks! I hope everyone enjoys their purchases!

  21. I phoned in my offer this morning and the code worked!
    Love the blog,

  22. I made 4 different Final Sale orders and all above $200, and each time the two Free Shipping codes don't work. The message says "Your code cannot be applied blah blah blah." Doesn't say expired. Annoying!! -- Vivian

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lynn - thanks for that. It did not come in any of our catalogues and there are three of us in the office that order. I wonder if they sent them to US addresses only. It is such a lucky thing that this blog exists so we can share them.

  24. The INJ-160 code didn't work for me, but the code for FS over 150.00 worked.

My Copelle Paisley Alessia blouse came in and I was lucky enough to get it at 39.99 plus 25% off. I have been eyeing on these since February. It was marked down and stayed 59.99 for a long time. I bought a size 2, and the only thing about this blouse is that they should put a side zipper because it's a pull over top.

I noticed that at the ending of each month, and the end of a large sale event (i.e 25% clearance), J Crew usually makes room for their incoming new styles due next month. Also, don't be surprised if what we just bought is marked down again to a lower price. Since it's a Final Sale (if purchased on clearance), it's almost impossible to get a price adjustment.

    ReplyDelete
  25. There is a $25 off coupon on purchases of $150 or more in the July catalog I received today. It is on page 39!!! Hope you all got one, too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. neither code worked for me this morning. But I have used them both already. (hey, great deals!) Do they only allow you to use each code once?

    ReplyDelete
  27. OK, I spent 40 minutes with Customer Service, and at first they said OK, they will refund free shipping on my four orders. Next, he changed his mind and said it's not valid for multiple orders. He will apply it to only one order. Now where the hell does that say so? I don't see it on my coupon or do I need glasses? So I demanded to speak to a supervisor, and after being put on hold for another 15 minutes, he came back again and said OK, as a courtesy, they will honor the coupon for my four orders. WHAT A JOKE! Sorry to be sexist, but I prefer speaking to female customer service reps. From my experience, they are nicer and more relaxed and don't have some chip on their shoulders like the guys who work for J.Crew. PAH!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anyway, more details: at first he even came back to say that the code is applicable only to one order above $150. I said no way, it's for $100. Please check again. No wonder the whole call took so long.

Anyway, I will be getting a total shipping refund of $65. Not sure if it's worth 50 minutes of my time. -- Vivian

  29. A: I know what you mean about putting items in a cart and being worried if you should buy it or look around the sale some more (but risking the items in the cart)! ;)

Lynn & Lisa: Congrats on the purchases! Happy to hear they honored the code.

Yogichicki: From my own experience, those free shipping codes in catalogs go to those names that haven't ordered through J.Crew online (which I kind of understand, and kind of don't). For example, I get two sets of catalogs: one for my husband (who never buys online) and gets the free shipping codes; one for me which never gets any code (and makes the purchases). I will say, they have stopped sending catalogs in my husbands name (not sure why) recently.

Shoppinginseattle: sorry to hear your cart got ransacked. I hate when that happens. :(

Vivian: Definitely sorry to hear neither codes worked. Also, I can't believe they said you could only use it on one order- that's outrageous! Good for you, sticking up for yourself! :) And I think $65 is totally worth calling in for! :)

  30. webbysuzy I am so JEALOUS that you got the Coppelle paisley alessia blouse. I had that in my cart on monday and just didn't purchase and now I am so upset I didn't go for it. I just called jcrew CS to see if there were any to add to my order from today(which is express overnight)but they are completely sold out - congrats, keep me posted on how it fits etc.

  31. Has anyone tried on the Solid Jessie Blouse or the Casbah Print Jessie Blouse? I am considering buying it but am concerned that it would make me look larger than I actually do. I purchased the Catarina Blouse and had to return it because it made me look thick in the torso. But then I purchased the Pleat-Front Tissue top and although it has an empire waist, it was very flatterning for the material layed flat and did not add additional visual pounds. Does anyone own the Jessie? What is it like on? Help Please! :) Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  32. They honored it for the $80 of stuff I did order, and told me if I'd like to order anything else and it is still available to call and shipping on that item would be waived as well. I will say one thing about J.Crew - for as much as the website stinks sometimes, the customer service is wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  33. i just purchased the jesse blouse in swiss dot the other day, and i was expecting it to have the thick torso effect on me as well, but gave it a shot anyway, and it really fits beautifully. i'm small everywhere, except in the bust, and i got a 0 and i love it!

  34. Also, to the anonymous who was talking about Abercrombie - they used to have coupons. I shopped there a lot in high school and my mom (who charged everything) was always getting coupons for $10 off jeans or 20% off a top. This was also back when their clothes were well made and not skanky most of the time...those were the days!

    ReplyDelete
  35. anon at 12:15pm - is this for in store purchases only? also is there a coupon code?

I didn't seem to get this even though i have the july catalog open in front of me :(((

    ReplyDelete
  36. July catalog coupon info: It says it is good in stores, however it does not say anything about online. There is no code, but there is a barcode for scanning. The catalog has a tan/white purse on the cover with a small black circle in the lower left hand corner that says "Special offer in store for you". I am going to assume that it wont be usable online or over the phone. Also, it expires July 5th.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hmm..I have the July catalog but no black circle saying special offer for you and no coupon :((( Actually it makes sense since I am Canadian and there are no retail stores here...but it would have been nice to get the coupon...might have inspired me to make the border crossing!

  38. Lynn, I ordered the stretch wool trousers you mentioned and good thing it was before final sale and i could return them - They run VERY small. I always order size 2 and these were so super tight, there was no way i could wear them to work. I wonder if my pair was mislabeled and was actually size 0, not 2 or they just really not true to their size... Hope yours will look great on you!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anon at 2:31pm- Oh no, now I'm worried since they're final sale! I'm consistently a 6 in J.Crew dress pants with room to spare. Did you just try one pair that was too small, or was it numerous pairs?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I called Customer Service, and they will be crediting back the shipping costs on the order I placed this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  41. hi lynn- I purchased the same prima-stretch jacket and pants in my usual size. All jcrew pants/shorts in my size tend to have a bit more room in the waist for me, and these pants almost fit my waist perfectly (still a little room). I could definitely tell they were smaller in the thigh/butt area, but I think with repeated wear they'll give a little bit. If you've still got some room to spare in your normal size, I'd say these may be ok, maybe just tighter then usual. The jacket fit perfectly.

  42. I just placed my order with them over the phone. The guy I spoke with said that particular code (IJN-160) exprired yesterday (June 24) according to their system, but he still honored it for me today.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I tried the code last week and it didn't work. So I replaced my order and realized you can not have any spaces behind the code or it will cause it to be invalid or "expired". Wanted to let everyone know incase that is the reason for everyone else too =)

  44. I forgot to add, I ordered the kayla blouse to push my last order over the free shipping mark, and what a total dissapointment! It is super sheer, and had absolutely no shape, I looked like I had on a potato sack with buttons. I was actually willing to pay full price for this from the looks of it online, but it's totally not worth it imo.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thanks to everyone who posted about their experience with J.Crew. Overall it seems like the customer service has been honoring the coupon code. It also sounds like the coupon code incident was a glitch, and that it isn't suppose to expire yet.

It's awful that a few of you got different responses from customer service (like its a one time code, and that the code expired yesterday).

I also can't help that the code's expiration is a bit "convenient" (like some of you have pointed out). I mean, it was the last day of the additional percent of sale, and many of you had to bump up your orders to make the other coupon code's minimum of $150.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Alright, I loaded up my shopping bag and then just called customer service, quoting the need for the free shipping with the IJN-160 code and she placed my order over the phone, giving me the free shipping and the 25% sale items. It takes longer than checking out online, but was worth it, since my total came to $101.21! Good luck y'all!

  47. FS Code: I called Cust. Svc & inquired as to why some folks received a coupon on their catalog. CS said they the ship the catalogs with coupon codes out at random - it doesn't matter if you are a card holder, in a ceratin area, etc. Sorry if this is repeat information.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Erin-
Wow! You were such a big help! Thanks for the advice on the pants. I'm not quite as worried about them now... I was tempted to try to cancel them! I fell in love with the Kayla blouse as well and wanted it so bad I was willing to pay full price (which I don't do very often at J.Crew). Thanks SO MUCH for warning me about the shape. I HATE shapeless tops! It sounds like you and I have similar style :-)

  49. yogichicki - The Alessia blouse fits true to size. I like the fact that it's lightweight cotton with a nice print so I can wear it on a hot day and not worry too much about layering since I know nothing will show.

I waited for a long time for it to be marked down to 39.99. I'm thinking it could probably go all way down to 19.99, but that will have to be by the end of the Summer. I constantly check their sales since one never knows.

I'm pretty sure you'll see the Alessia blouse again. It appears J Crew made a huge order of the Coppelle Paisley print and I also notice the Cherry Blossom Frances blouse as well.

    Think good thoughts!

  50. Hi,
Does anyone still remember some of us discussed about the Kate Dress with new colores in new arrival section? Somehow, I am not able to find it tonight. Sold out?!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Kate Dress Item 92157: I could not locate it either. When I follow the link to the dress from the new arrivals blog from last week, it displays the 'sorry we sold out' window with the dress in the new colors, persimmon & navy.

  52. Well the "glitch" is still happening this morning: IJN-160 does NOT work again today...weren't they supposedly fixing this problem?

  54. I placed an order yesterday (about $101), and just called customer service to try to get the free shipping as others have done successfully. The lady I spoke to said the coupon (IJN-160) was for free shipping on $150+, not $100+. Anyone else run into this prob???

    ReplyDelete
  55. Update - just called again and spoke to a different agent, and got the shipping charge refunded using the coupon code, no questions asked. Weird.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Rach & FFM: Thanks for your response about the Kate Dress.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Lynn, about the pants... I did get just one pair so I am not sure if my pair was simply mislabeled. When I tried them on I even thought that I gained weight because size 2 always fit me great. But I also got two more pairs of pants in the same order in same size 2 and they fit fine. So maybe its just my pair. I also kind of didnt like how thin the fabric was on those pants and they were not lined. But thats just me.

  58. both of your posted codes are now not working :( too bad so sad for me! I have to place the order for the Lisa dress now so I don't miss out on it. I've been waiting for it to go on sale and finally this morning it has!

  59. FabulousFloridaMommy: Thanks for letting us know that the code didn't work today either. Again, very "convenient" for them (and completely unfair).

Anonymous at 8:39 AM: I am happy to hear that you called again and got free shipping. :) I can't believe the first cust rep told you it was for $150.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Kerry- I am not sure why the codes are not working. But after you place your order, call customer service and explain that the codes didn't work and you would like free shipping applied to your order. Hopefully they will honor it. :)

  62. I emailed customer service after placing my order with a note regarding the coupon code and they wrote back the same day saying they would adjust it. Very nice!

  64. The code didn't work for me again today, but I went ahead and placed yet another order (this blog is bad for that sort of thing!)and emailed customer service right afterward. They emailed me back within 2 hours and said they'd apply the free shipping code. I love J. Crew's customer service :-)

  65. Lynn, I think we do have similar style! I hope the suit works out for you!

I thought I had read somewhere in these comments that in store would match a price online, but will they honor vice-versa? The Lilah dress is 29.99 in store, but they don't have my size, however they have my sized online but it's 59.99! Does anyone have any experience with that? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hi Erin: I posted about getting the price match for my in store purchase to the one I was making online...I told the CS rep that I had been told they do price matching to the in store price, and that I had made a purchase of a top and the price was significantly lower than what it is online, and can I please purchase it for the store price. She asked for the store number and sales person's name off of my receipt and then for my purchase price...she then gave me the in store price. I'm not sure how it works if you have not purchased the item, but I would call saying the same thing, but that my store has it at a lower price, but not in my size...will you honor the in store price that is lower...they will probably call your store to verify the price, and then give you the lower price. I would also ask for Free Shipping since you would not have paid shipping if it had been in the store for you to buy...hope this helps, and that it works out for you! Let us know what happens! :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks ffm!! It sorta worked...I KNOW the price was 29.99 in store, but when the cs rep called the store, they said it rang in 59.99, but had an additional 25% off. So the rep gave me back the 25% off difference, but not the ticketed price of 29.99 :(
