J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including TeriLynn13 (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had a small update to its website (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here).

The March catalog (click here to view) is still up. However, the latest APRIL catalog is not. As mentioned by several JCAs, J.Crew posted several images of the newest catalog over at Pinterest (click here to view).
The collaborations keep coming with J.Crew. I could not help but notice the Birkenstock® for J.Crew leather Arizona sandals. I particularly enjoyed how J.Crew declared the following statement: "You heard it here first: Birkenstocks will be everywhere this summer." I am actually very interested to see how J.Crew plans to style these sandals. I find that although they are very comfortable, they can be somewhat tricky to work into an outfit.

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. also of note is that a bunch of items got lowered to promo prices but still have the 25% code applicable to be stacked. for example, the stacked stone necklace down to $108 and then $81, persian leaves necklace down to $105 and then $78.75, tortoise and stone necklace down to $105 and then $78.75, and stacked flowers necklace down to $45 and then $33.75.

I'm still not buying on anything, though, because I feel like if they are on promo now, maybe during the next sale cycle they will actually hit .99 sale prices, and then I can just grab them with an additional percentage off. the j. crew pricing games continue, I guess.

  2. Definitely thought the rollout would be bigger.

I'm so underwhelmed this spring. The proportions of everything seem so sacklike. Not flattering!

I don't even like the shoes.

    Who am I?

    J. Crew Spring 2014 is causing me to have an existential crisis.

Guess I'm shopping at Banana and Anthro.

Sidenote: I've decided that I loathe t. shirts with words or messages written across them. Why is this trend happening?!?!?!

    1. I do not care for them either...this will not last for too long before something else takes its place...maybe the plain tee shirt !

    2. I find these T shirts to be embarrassing, but I guess others might not like my choices either. But I am surprised that they made so many styles - 15 or so just for women!

    3. Just remember, this is just the mini April rollout- not the big one for May. It will be closer to end of this month with new style guide. Should hopefully have some good stuff, fingers crossed. I am counting on some cute tops!

    4. I hear Stacy London screaming "shut up" every time I see those shirts!!!!

      Delete
    5. But the matelasse dress! Oooh la la!

      Delete
    6. Ha ha. Stacy London! That is fabulous.

I feel like J. Crew has jumped the shark. This brand used to establish the trends, imo. Now, it's just following them in a cringe-worthy way for me. I know the t's and sweats with words proudly proclaiming something is in all the mags and whatnot, but this should be SHUNNED, in my very humble opinion. Just as I am shunning bad 90s shoes, bad 90s crop tops and all of this normcore nonsense.

I am so much more into J.Crew Factory this spring. Probably because it is knocking off all of the cute stuff from last spring. Give me anchors and fun spring colors, damn it, J. Crew!!!

    7. Cousy did what I've been afraid to do...count the number of word graphic tees. For some time the inside of J Crew has reminded me of a t-shirt shop on Venice Beach. Great when you're looking for a souvenir, but not what I'm looking for from J. Crew. I'm not completely against the phrase tees. I have a number of my own. I'm not paying $49.50 for them, though. Three or four said tops or sweaters is enough.

      Delete
    8. Who knew word tees were such a hot topic!

I think my issue with it is that: I'm married, I have a kid, I'm a business owner and I'm pushing 40. I can just say what I need to say. I don't need it splashed across my boobies. LOL.

      Delete
    9. Gigi - I was wrong. There's actually 21 phrase T's in the women's section right now -12 full price and 8 sale. That's not including the Philippine's T, which is different.

While the French ones are, in Susan's apt words, "cringe-worthy", I still think the worst is the "blah-blah-blah" tee. To whom is that appealing?

      Delete
    10. OMG. That pic of the Birkenstock is making me break out into hives. I want to go to J. Crew corporate offices and ask them what they did to my J. Crew.

I have all of these J. Crew gift cards that are just sitting in my gift card drawer. Tragic!

      Delete
    11. Susan, I'm with you on this normcore business. I thought that was an internet joke. I grew up in the 90s and I will not be revisiting the ugly shoes, baggy pants and crop top trends. Once in a lifetime is enough and I don't have the luxury of being a teenager to explain away the bad fashion sense.

      Delete
    12. The blahblah tee is appealing to me,i own it and love it:)

      Delete
    13. Haha I like the blah-blah-blah tee too! I'm old enough to say it, but it's not always appropriate to do so. Wearing the blahblah tee makes me happy in those circumstances ;) I have a few word tees, but don't need any more. I'm glad they're somewhat over the large critter on sweaters phase. They do sometimes take a thing and do it until it jumps the shark!

      Delete
    14. I normally love Madewell, but their word tees are even worse IMO. They throw me into a horrible flash back to the "Frankie Say Relax" days for those who are old enough to remember!! Yes, I was a kid but I was there for that horrible 80's fashion don't and those MW tees remind me so much of it!!

      Delete
    15. I have the blah blah blah tee. I am a litigation lawyer. I day dream about wearing it to court. Makes me laugh just thinking about it.

      Delete
    16. and at least they spelled "blah" correctly.

I too have dreams of where I'd like to wear the tee. Heh heh.

      Delete
    17. I'm not a fan of the word tees but you guys are making the blah blah blah tee sound funny. Would probably work best with an apathetic expression.

      Delete
    18. Add me to the owners of the blah blah blah tee. I think it's a riot. I wear it around the house, or to run errands locally. I don't wear it with blazers or such! I do agree, however, that the number of word tees have gone a bit overboard

      Delete
    19. I actually thought the blah blah shirt was cute, and it's not as blaring as a lot of the other word shirts. The words are real little as opposed to most of the other ones where they're screaming at you.

  3. I absolutely love the Ratti Floral print in swimwear. What are the odds of some (pretty) clothes in this?

Wanted to order the Matelassé Sheath Dress in the seamist, but *surprise*, it's already sold out. WTF!?!?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm right there with you, Sinead! Sold out before I even received the promo e-mail about new arrivals?

That seamist color is so pretty. I'm hoping some may pop back after Easter.

    2. I'm sure they will re-stock, it seems like we have seen this pattern with new items several times over the past few months.

    3. I hope so TeriLynn. My size in the white just sold out and I want! Granted I really do not need another white sheath but I love their sleek sophistication.

  4. I like the photo floral dress and the triple eyelet dress - eager to see what they're like IRL.

Like the geometric tikki swimwear too.

  6. I actually love Birkenstocks and have been wearing them for years--they're a summer staple for me! However, I don't care for the Arizona style, as the seem to masculine for me (and I'm even one for wearing mens and boys clothes from time to time!) I much prefer the streamlined look of the Birkenstock Gizeh. They don't quite scream "orthopedic shoe" the way the Arizona does. In fact, I'm wearing a pair of the Gizehs right now!

    1. Agreed with both you and Alexis.

      Delete
    2. I was going to say the exact same thing! I'm a Gizeh Believer. The JCrew in GSP has the Birkenstocks in stock, and although the blue color is nice (as is the white sole), they are absolutely hideous on. If it's possible, they seem even bulkier and mannish than standard Birks. Why? Why? Why?

      Delete
    3. I also love Birkenstocks and have been wearing them since my early 20's. I do happen to like the Arizona style though.

As for J.Crew saying we heard about them being seen everywhere from them first, give me a break. We all know that's not true.

      Delete
    4. I also like the Arizona style best. I find them cute in a Flintstones kind of way (if that makes any sense!). I have them in pink, yellow, and light blue: less masculine and more fun. Super comfortable and they get better as you wear them.

  7. I love the photo floral print actually, just wish the skirt was sturdier, the dress looks great but too short for me. a quick review at ebelandi.com

  9. Not sure if this has been covered, but J Crew brings back a swimsuit from the archives per an open letter.

Read about it on NY Mag.

    1. Thanks for the link Gigi. I love the old J Crew tank bathing suit. It was great for swimming laps and provided good coverage with a "wholesome" kind of sexy, flattering look . I look forward to seeing them again. I've been wearing the Lands End version which is well made but not quite as flattering.

      Delete
    2. Wow, I bet you the JCA's could write volumes on all of the things we would like pulled back from the archives!

      Delete
    3. Meh, that swimsuit is so BLAH. I was going to say it looks like it's from Lands End (not exactly fashion forward) or something you could get from Old Navy or H&M for $15 if you really wanted something so plain. Why would I spend $88 for that?

      Delete
    4. I just read the whole open letter...amusing how she talks about buying an alternative from another designer, but said alternative was marked down to final sale, and "the risk was too great" to buy. Wonder if Jenna is taking that to heart as well?

      Delete
    5. If it fits anywhere near as nice as the cutout tank, then I'll be a fan. It doesn't look as wonderful as the wistful letter makes it sound though. At least, not this revived version on the JC site.

    6. Of all the things they're pulling out from the archives?! A tank bathing suit?!

    7. Jruby18, that was my thought exactly. Of. All. The. Things! I have a list in my head if they're doing re-runs...

  11. I am in love with the matelasse sheath dress. It's long enough for me, it's work appropriate and can also be worn for other things, it's white. Love, I tell ya. My only concern is the lining. It doesn't say if it is cotton like the dress or poly. I'm thinking the fact that it's washable means it is all cotton. Can't find live chat to save my life. I may have to order to find out.

Into every life a little rain must fall, in the form of the side slit soft pencil skirt. Again, long enough for me, work appropriate, could be styled casually, HAS POCKETS (can you tell I love pockets on a skirt?) and comes in several colors. Alas, it is poly. A poly skirt with poly lining. I can't think of anything more uncomfortable.

My apologies to those who love them, but I think Birkenstocks are the devil. Fugly. I wouldn't wear or buy in a million years. Since Celine put their version on the runway a couple years ago they've been all the rage and I'm hoping they go away soon.

    1. Desert Flower: The sheath dress is really lovely, and I'm sure it will be fantastic on you! It actually reminds me a lot of the one that Giovanna Battaglia is wearing in the post that I have up on my blog today. I'm sure you'll remember the photo when you see it...it's one that we both love. :)

    2. I was laughing to myself about the CFS saying that we're hearing it here first that Birkenstocks will be everywhere this summer. Like it's this hot new trend. Please.

  12. I thought the Pleated Flare Dress showed promise until I saw that it has an exposed back zip. Why ruin a nice basic dress by adding that to it? I really wish that trend would go away quickly.

  17. Hi
Has anyone tried the sleeveless beach tunic a2223?
I like the idea of it as a light top with a cami maybe loosely/partly tucked as a casual top for hot summer days. The model is wearing with shorts but the description is throwing me off a little. Would love any thoughts and opinions/experience. I have not seen it IRL. Thanks :-)

  18. I did a quick stop at the MI Ave store in Chicago before an appointment in the area. The structured v-neck shell caught my eye. It's a sturdy fabric with stretch and looks like it could be a good wardrobe staple. I didn't try it on so not sure how it fits. However, it does have an exposed zip. I actually don't mind exposed zips, but I know they get a lot of hate by JCAS, so may be a deal breaker for some. I like the patio skirt photo floral, but didn't try it on-it could be too poofy. I also like the metallic baseball cap.

  19. Tricky is the right word, Alexis. I have had numerous pairs of Birkenstocks in the past, and all I wore with them was jeans or shorts.
