J.Crew Spotted in Vogue Magazine

A big "thanks!" to Penny (check out her lovely Penny. LA blog), who not only let us know about a few J.Crew items being spotted in the latest issue of Vogue, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The page on the left features the Jackie Shell (Item 29349; $42.00) under the Jackie Cardigan (Item 29350; $62.00). This combination is classic styling— simply at its best. Love it.

The page on the right shows off J.Crew's Jenna Cardigan (Item 24712; $70.00) in "Paradise Blue". But here is the best part... the cardigan is worn backwards! It looks absolutely lovely in the image, but that styling technique won't work for real-life. (I am having flashbacks of Criss-Cross, jump!)

Vogue really loves this cardigan because they featured it before (refer to the July 21st "J.Crew Spotted in Vogue" post). My feelings on it are the same: I love the rich colors being offered, but not a fan of the cropped cardigan in general.

What are your thoughts on the cardigans featured? Do you own these Jenna Cardigans? If so, please share! :)

  1. Lol, wearing the cardi backwards is 2010 imitating 1982 imitating 1958. Oh, and I would totally wear it that way!

ITA about the lame promo. I'm not placing an order until I get better deal. Where are the promised "cardholder sales"? They are way overdue for an "insider sale."

  2. Maybe I'd wear it that way if I had model Lara Stone's boobs. But me? Nope. (someone might think my head was on backwards...)

  3. Heidi - I'm not surprised. J Crew consistently goes against the industry as far as promos. When it's Black Friday, little to nothing. Labor Day we get fs because they chose to run a promo last week. Nope, not surprised at all.

  4. I'm tempted to try wearing my Jenna cardigan backwards, but I know it will not work IRL. I still haven't worn my Jenna cardigan (gray) I got during several promos ago. I must say the arms are pretty tight in my regular size, but I didn't want to size up looking too loose in the body area.

As for the promos during this weekend, I agree with Gigi, JC seems to always go against what others are doing. Who knows, maybe they'll do another extra % off final sale next week after the Labor day weekend is over to get things moving.

  5. I wouldn't wear a cardi backwards - my students would have lots of comments about that. :) I would love to try the cardi on, though, since I'm short-waisted. Wish it was in stores.

I have learned to not expect a promo from JC on holidays. So, the fs is a nice surprise, although I won't be taking advantage of it.

  6. I also don't expect any promos for holidays at J.Crew, so I was a bit surprised to see the free shipping this morning (especially on $100+, instead of on $150+).

  7. I have tried the Jenna cardigan and found that it just wasn't cropped properly. It is a great concept but they need to work on it. I own the Brora cropped cardigans, which are complete perfection, worth their price.
Nice to see some JC items in Vogue. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Johnnie B-Boden's teen company-has a cropped cardigan and it is styled and sold as a sweater you can wear two ways.
    Here it is:

  9. I like the Jenna cardi. I bought the carbon a while back and really like it with a cami and pencil skirt.

However, I am small and it really isn't cropped at all on me. It hits just below my waist about like the Celocia from this spring.

The sweater does run very small. I am almost always a small and sized up to a medium on this one and it isn't too big anywhere.

  10. I love the Jenna cardi. Never thought to wear it backwards, or belted. I'm definitely going to try both those looks. I think it's a fantastic cardigan with pencil skirts. Makes me look very Mad Men curvy even though I'm a stick person. I do agree this one runs small. I sized up one size.

  11. Pardon my totally practical question: Why not just throw on a crew neck? That way there's no awkward pose after the inevitable, "Look, I don't mean to embarrass you, but did you know you're wearing your cardigan backwards?"

It reminds me of Arrested Development, when Rita and Lindsay Bluth decide to wear their clothes inside-out so people will see the labels, lol.

  12. Here's a 40% off 2 items + free shipping code for BR: N2C831KFVJ48

Hope some JCA can use it.

Can anyone tell me where the rose print dress is from? Something Black boutique? Help is appreciated, thanks!

  13. Marisa, thank you for posting that cropped cardi from Boden. I get their catalogs but have never ordered from them. As another short-waister, I could totally wear that, thanks!

  16. This sweater also snags very easily. I think I am extremely careful with my clothes, but have had very bad luck with their 14-gauge merino in this way. It really sucks to get a snag/hole after just one or two wearings. I agree it runs small and is very cropped. I can only get away with it with dresses.

  17. Corry,

I am with you! I am very very careful with my clothes--to an extreme and I snagged my 14 gauge merino as well. I think it is quality being poor--not us!

  18. Love the look of the Jackie shell and cardi...I'm thinking about that colour combination now!

And LOL, I just totally flashed back to wearing my v-neck (acrylic!) sweater backwards in junior high. With stirrup pants, I'm quite sure. Ha!

The Jenna cardi looks very pretty, I may give it a try to see if the proportions work for me.

  20. I have had the carbon Jenna for some time and ordered the black one a couple of weeks ago. The black arrived up snagged and snagged again before I could get it back to the store. The carbon has held up well. I definitely think some colors are different in quality than others. The black was visibly thinner and more loosely woven.

I have a ton of 14 gauge sweaters as I live in Florida and anything much heavier is pointless. I have argyle crews, celocia, marzipans, etc that have been worn a lot and most have held up well.

But then my expectation are in line with the sweater I am buying. I do expect more than 1 or 2 wearings out of all garments, but I don't expect a finer gauge sweater to be as durable as something more chunky. It doesn't make the finer guage sweater low quality, just more fragile.
