J.Crew Updates Website With New Arrivals Today!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including GigiOfCa, Jen P., Summer, & Marietta (in this post), asdf & Fiona (in this post), as well as Ema, who let us know that J.Crew updated its website (click here). There are new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here).

In addition to having new arrivals for men and women, J.Crew also provided the latest catalog online (click here to view). :) There's even a stand alone catalog for Men, starring artist Ryan McGinness.

The stylists over at J.Crew love love love to layer (both clothes & accessories)! It's pretty to look at, but also a bit too much- there is no way I am going to be rockin' my jeans and turtleneck with- three different necklaces, a flower broach, three bracelets, and a watch (referring to you, page number 4 in catalog!) ;)

After looking through the new catalog (refer to the September 13th post "New J.Crew Catalog is Here {thanks RatsOnParade!}"), there are a few things I am excited to see. In particular, I am liking the new Large Patent Campo Bag (Item 19572; $278.00)- finally a J.Crew leather bag I don't have to worry about using in the rain!

What I am *not* too excited about is the Fall coat selection (which might be a good thing, because I have too many coats!) There's no style I am really looking forward to. (And what about the Belstaff Bomber Jacket for $1,195.00? Not sure what to make of it. Doesn't seem like it belongs in the Women's section.)

Lastly, J.Crew sent the following email (shown below) this morning announcing the good news with the subject line: "Say hello to our new arrivals, in stores and online". I am happy to see the quick and timely email being sent to customers. :)
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Also, did you receive the latest catalog?

  1. I was surprised the rollout was so small, I kept looking for more. The tweed skirts, and the Dream Varsity Stripe cardigan are nice. I only ordered the Jaspe Hoodie, that is enough until the Holiday rollout.

  2. I am excited about both versions of the Bailey shoe, though do they only come in one color each?? Also the beaded ribbon top, the silk pleated posy top and the terra paisley shift dress. Also I see the models are now doing a new pose, which I'm going to call the contorted I'm a little teapot pose. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  3. Roxy I was just going to comment on the pose as well! It makes it so hard to see the fit and length of things from the front.

Can anyone comment on the fit of the Jaspe sweatshirts...both the crewneck and the hoodie? Get your normal size, or size up or down?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Good morning ladies! :)

Casual Crew: The roll out did feel small. Maybe its because they are saving up for the Winter roll out? :)

Roxy & LizPoms:: LOL! I know the pose you are talking about- and the "contorted I'm a little teapot pose" line is spot on!!! ;)

  5. I preordered the spy trench and am really looking forward to it.

I also am planning on getting the blue pencil skirt. The other new offerings just are not that special.

  6. Sadly, there is nothing I feel compelled to purchase today. I am hitting up my two B&M's this weekend for some IRL looks. I do like a couple of the camis and a couple sweaters, but other than that, I think I will save my pennies for the next rollout.

  8. LizPoms: I called CS this am about the sizing, and according to the measurements it is TTS, it is not a Boyfriend fit like the sweatshirt was. It is a stretchy fabric so if you like a fitted look you might get away with a smaller size. I ordered my usual size in the Medium so I can layer it with tees etc.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Lizpoms: I forgot to add that I sized down in the sweatshirt in the Spring. I do not why JC said to size up in the sweatshirt if you want a slouchy fit, unless they changed the sizing of it.

    ReplyDelete
  10. LizPoms: Back when the Jaspe crewneck first came out, I tried it on at my local b&m. The only size they had was an xs, which is not my usual top size (I usually wear a small) but I tried it on anyway. Surprisingly, it fit perfectly. I'm assuming that this newer roll-outs of Jaspes are the same fit. Here is a pic of me in the first Jaspe, back in May.

  11. In my shopping bag from the new online rollout, ready or order:
Vintage Nolita denim jacket (can't remember it in catalog?)
    Cashmere tie-front cardigan
Jaspe boyfriend sweatshirt (have one ADORE it)
Chiffon-trim silk blouse (the silky tops are SO wonderful under sweaters and heaven to the skin)

Agree with Alexis that stylists seem to layer a LOT (especially jewelry), but attribute it to offering visual extremes, knowing we'll do it our way.

  12. Nothing on first glance that makes me swoon, not even the tweed skirts, and I have a weakness for tweed pencil skirts. Overpriced, and neither the sapphire one nor the oona one come in petite, and regular is too long for me.

The girls pepper tweed coat looks adorable, but sacre bleu, the price!

Re: poses. I miss happy, smiling j.crew catalogues. I don't think there's really been one since Fall 2007. That blonde model (Vanessa?) j.crew used to use made me want to buy everything she wore (I didn't, but in some cases came close). Now it's glassy-eyed, mouth-hanging open, vapid looks .... I'm not a fan of the styling much any more. I also miss the on-location shoots.

    ReplyDelete
  13. FYI I used "FALL" about an hour and a half ago and it worked! Worth trying to get the Free Shipping still! :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm underwhelmed by the rollout. Just like Casual-crew, I wasn't expecting it to be so small. Oh well. I only have one thing majorly on my mind: the jaspe sweatshirt. Looks exactly like the one that they had back in May that I missed out on. Not this time, j.crew!!!

I love the Sapphire tweed skirt but there is no way in you-know-where that I will pay $200 for a skirt. Yowza. Also like the ruffle henley shirt but, eh...can live without.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I found the Jaspe' xip-up to be TTS. It is longer in sleeves and length, but more of a fitted torso.

I love the longer length of the Trentino Cabin cardigan.

Want the navy Collegiate cardigan and the beaded ribbon front top!

My online PS said this roll-out was to fill in the holes of the last one, but the next one is the biggie.

    ReplyDelete
  16. casual-crew: I agree! I really thought there would be more new items. Now I'm not quite as disappointed in myself for splurging for 3 sweaters on yesterday's deal.

Alexis: I'm actually quite upset at the fact that there aren't very many winter coats. I've been preparing for a splurge on one or two nice, knee-length wool coats this winter, and I don't see anything too special! (And I didn't purchase a single coat last year!)

Everyone else: What is the pattern of JCrew's coats in the cold season normally? Can we expect to see a rollout of more winter coats? If so, when?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ms. Pan,

The next roll-out will have the coats and into winter items....

    ReplyDelete
  18. Seems like the new Jaspe crewneck will be popular, so I went ahead and ordered it in the size I tried on and loved back in May. Hope they didn't change the sizing at all...!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I just tried the FALL code and it didn't work for me... but the new code you posted did... thanks Alexis!

Roll outs might be a little smaller these days due to the economy (cliche by this point, I know!) which I'm guessing they feel is a smart business decision right now. It will be interesting to see what happens around Christmas with the size of the Holiday roll out and the degree to which merch goes on sale!

I already purchased all the new roll out stuff I wanted on Monday at my B&M, but I just snagged a light pink and yellow Jackie for $39, a couple of the ruffle front perfect tanks for $19, and the ocelot cardi online.... grrr.... I was supposed to be saving for the coat I want!

    ReplyDelete
  20. LOVE the Patent Campo! It was a must have as I am huge fan of patent everything- shoes, bags etc... I could not decide on color as the black is not black but rather plum/eggplant color so I ordered both and will have to pick one-yikes! Otherwise nothing that was a must have @ full price. I do like the kelsey top, but really don't need another ruffle top.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love fall. I have to say I am a little excited for the details in many of the men's clothes - from the leather buttons to some of the new herringbones and birdeye patterns in the sweaters and ties. But what I am most impressed with is JCrew's ability to pull real people, in this case artists, into their world. My sister was a student of Stephen Shore in the 1990s and so I was surprised and impressed seeing him a part of this - his work is pretty dynamic in terms of it's treatment of a usual and banal subject matter, that being the landscape. I like what they are doing for men's fashion and men in general - their focus on the creative mind and placing them in their campaigns is something to get excited about. Oh, and the cashmere rib-shawl sweater in navy is nice, too.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was disappointed, nothing I had to have. I'll wait until the next rollout. I would really like some nice camis in the next new arrivals without ruffles. I'm really done with ruffles.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think that the tailored wool cowl dress could be possible in my future, once I see how it looks like without all that atrocious styling. I'm just surprised they exercised restraint and didn't put eight necklaces under or over the cowl.

The teapot! Another affectation to add to the neon sock category that distracts, and DETRACTS, from the clothes.

Twiga, yea for those Campos! The only way I'll be able to choose which color is by which is still left when they're on sale within my price range. I still covet the regular leather in the light beige, too. Someday...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Good Morning Everyone! I'm not at all surprised that this rollout is so small. The store director at my B&M told me at the beginning of September that this month they will just get a small number of new arrivals, and that the October rollout will be the large one.

I see a couple of pieces I am considering such as the Deco skirt and Sapphire pencil skirt...just not sure I want to pay full price for them. I had initially been interested in the Tweed Oona coat but after seeing it on the model I'm not so sure about it anymore, not to mention that it's probably too heavy for Florida winters anyway. Oh well, I'm sure I can find a less expensive alternative someplace else. :)

Btw, one of the in-store only (for now at least) tees in the pic for the Felted Wool Bistro Mini. Click Here .

    Have a great day!

  25. I ordered this morning; I was going to order the Maya cardi last night and do a ride-along so I could get free shipping but my little inner voice said to be patient. I'm glad I waited.

I got the Maya in black and the garland tee (item 19640) in soft dove. I already own the Maya but have yet to wear it (I bought it a few weeks ago and it is just starting to get in the low 90s here), so I am returning it to the store tonight (had planned a trip to the mall to do some other returns) and doing my own price adjustment. I ordered the tee in both a L and XL since I never know what size I am anymore. I own the Maya in L but other cardis/tees I need XL.

I was glad to see the new free shipping code. I'll have my husband go into the Crew to do the return tonight; all I have left of the shipping invoice is the top half (the customer recipt) but that should be enough, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I also wanted to add that i would have happily forked over full price for the new tweed pencil skirt, the Oona, but the fact that sizing stops at 12 means I can't. J.Crew, why do you do this? I need a 14 in pencil skirts. You lost out on not only my sale, but I am suremany others!

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's funny I can praise their stylist Gayle--I love a lot of the things she does and it def part of the reason I buy certain items I may not normally buy but there are other times I have to ask wth was she thinking?
    Such as..
get a load of the model wearing the Deco print skirt (black & white item 17480). I guess they are rocking the "lost elderly female" look these days? I mean rolled down nude pantyhose/knee socks--whatever the "bleep" those are? Oh and those shoes? Anyone care for some jazz class moves! :0)

The wool tweed Ona coat looks like they've gone and messed up the fit. I hope I am wrong for those that were coveting it but the model's not lookin' so good. She's kinda swamped in coat:(

Love, love the Trentino cardi in camel and the barely peach (newly shaped) Peacoat is very pretty (need that like a hole in the head). Saw the collegiate cardi in store and it is THICK like felted wool. Not a lot of movement. I was no longer a fan. Bought the garland tee-very, very cute on. They are still embellishing everything with "attachments" of varying sorts ;) Did you see the fifi and bouquet sweaters? They are really hard to see due to darkness but there is more stuff all over them. I actually like the flowers etc. but it does limit their wearability.

Ms Pan and anyone else that wants a good price on a coat from last year--do a search for coats and you will find a few of last years on super sale. They do not show up otherwise. Cross fingers they have your size:)

    ReplyDelete
  28. As far as the coat rollouts go, last year, we had the Tuesdays and I think some of the peacoats earlier in the season. Then we had a rollout of the Gretas and a few other double cloths and a couple of cashmere blends. I think there was one final big rollout with the Shipley, Marie, Carrie, Harriet, etc. I don't think we have hit that big rollout yet, so maybe in October?

I think I am the most disappointed in not getting a double cloth jacket in this rollout. Didn't we have the Maggies in this one last year, with the grey being a late addition?

I did notice that my Carolyn cardi was marked Hol09 instead of Fall. I don't remember getting anything tagged holiday this early before.

  29. Thanks FFM! I couldn't remember which month they came out and I am at work, so I couldn't check.

By the way, I got a black one in my size off eBay last week. Yay!!! I appreciated your trying to help me get one last fall.

I still really adore this jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why did you delete your message FFM? Now mine is a bit out of context.... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  31. kitsmommy: I'm so glad you were able to finally get one! I am really looking forward to wearing mine again this year.

Sorry about the deleted comment...I meant to edit it before you posted again.

What I wrote was that they were on pre-order for November and must have been in the October catalog and rollout. Then I couldn't remember if they actually did come online in October and immediately sold out, then went to waitlist? I'm pretty sure they didn't ship until November though...that's when I got my first one. Anyways, sorry about the deletion and I hope this makes your comment more in context now. :)

  32. I was talking about the Maggie jackets in my previous post. :)

  33. Alexis,

You are so right about your comment...

"In particular, I am liking the new Large Patent Campo Bag (Item 19572; $278.00)- finally a J.Crew leather bag I don't have to worry about using in the rain!"

I have the quilted Quincy bag in dusty rose (the bag that keeps on giving) and it's my go-to for inclement weather.

Roxy- you crack my up. So true! Such "unique" poses should be kept to a minimum for maximum impact.

  35. I got my gray the Friday after Thanksgiving and that was the last color they put out. The UPS man showed up as were heading out the door to go to Disney and I didn't even have time to open it.

I got waitlisted on the camel and ended up getting it for about $120 as they reduced the price before it was shipped.

  37. OK-those coats..I am a knit wit (sp?)

Did anyone notice the new notification on items that are no longer available such as constellation cardi or the lace cami?

Also the Silver Lace Skirt is TDF but only in sz 2 and 4 Never mind the price;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I wish J.Crew would just reproduce some of the *best sellers* instead of constantly trying to come up with something better. I would personally love to have one of the *orignal* Chiffon Rose tees. I'm sure the Maggie, Lexington, and Bellas would sell really well if they were offered again, too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am missing simple lines and saturated color. Please, stop with all the ruffles!

Also, maybe I'm missing something, but what is with all the camis for this time of year? I can see wearing one in early fall under a soft sweater. But pretty soon it is going to be chilly in the NW. The idea of wearing a cami under a tweed blazer is not practical or comfortable.

    ReplyDelete
  40. AMEN FFM!

    Are you listening JCrew?????

    ReplyDelete
  41. YES!!! I second that, FFM. I would love to have ALL of the items you mentioned. Although I guess their aim is for their customers to have "one of a kind" pieces, but I think it would behoove them to offer what they KNOW are fantastic, good-selling items. It would serve to make their brand more classic, and you could always find a replacement if yours wears out (after many years, we hope :))

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hear, hear. If they offered a Bella in the fresh plum color, I'd pay full price for that. Instead, J.crew isn't getting any of my money.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I totally agree with you FFM. It seems like JC is trying too hard to come up with something new by adding more beading, frills, ruffles (I do like some...), etc. I would like to purchase the classic pieces I missed in the past...

For this roll out, I'm liking the large patent Campo bag, ribbon top and some other stuff...but nothing I would pay FP.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree, too many camis, thin tees, and ruffles. I wore a my victoria cami the other day with a turtleneck underneath and a cord blazer on top because it was cold. It's the only way I can get my money's worth out of the top (good thing I bought it on sale, too).

I like some of the more saturated colors-- rust/bistro/rustic orange, glazed pecan, burnished olive/cypress-- but there's still too many blah pinks, creams, lilacs, and faded blacks/navy/grey.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think winner for worst styling has to go to this little number. That's hobo without the chic.

I'm crossing my fingers for a mini leather Campo.

Love the Vineyard Necklace, but nothing else really stood out.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I didn't see much that I liked on this rollout as some have mentioned. I also miss the saturated colors. But that's good because I do need to curb my spending!

I was in the store yesterday and had fun trying on a lot of things but nothing came home. I'm planning to go again to a different B&M to see their selection. I tried on the carnation cluster tee in gray (very cute on! TTS)but I think I'll wait for the markdown on that. I also would love to try on the cashmere tie cardigan.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh Chelsea--LOL! I failed to mention that one:) I thought the same--that's def the winner!

FYI-The tie-front cashmere cardi in sweet guava will most likely NOT be the color the model is wearing (which I think is beautiful). In my experience, it will be the intense guava shade shown in the non-modeled picture. Same with the grey Lombard cardi--it is not the grey the model is wearing (which is really unique and pretty.) It is the heathered grey shade you see off the model. And my last negative sound-off is what appears to look like blood on the right arm of the Textured jersey satin-trim tee
item 18110 in deep rose. Zoom in on that one! Mickey should pay me to analyze the website for misrepresentation (that includes the drunken styling! :) I know people think I am downright bored.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I haven't gotten the catalog yet, but I must say, I've been curiously observing their general look/feel evolution through their latest campaigns. Feels like they're moving into more edgy layouts. The clothing is still the same, but the layering and way they style the models has gotten a new voice. I like that they're trying new things.

    ReplyDelete
  50. ok Bug Pin, you got me curious. I looked and you are right! There is some sort of stain on the shirt. too funny- I don't even know how you found it!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Some cute things for sure, but I am happy/sad that I didn't see anything I HAD to have. Just a few basics I think...

BUT, am I crazy to want the ribbon script coat. I suspect it could be hot messy IRL???

    ReplyDelete
  52. From this rollout I have the tweed Oona pencil skirt, and I just had my PS order for me the Sapphire tweed pencil skirt and the perfect pencil skirt in bright blue (that was the only color I missed out on from last year's double Serge skirt, I am so glad it is back!). Other than that, my only other must have is the patent Campo, which I will order next month after this bill is paid. Have to ladder the purchases!

    ReplyDelete
  53. boden has a bag similar to the patent campo -- it's $218 and available in more colors

  54. Stopped into the store today to get my catalog....and they weren't out. So again ask a SA for one and she says they don't have them. I politely disagree and tell her the mgr told me yesterday they would be out today. She says no, they can't release them. I repeat mgr told me they would be out today - could she please check? She acts like she's doing me a huge favor and says she will give me one. Lo and behold, ten minutes later when I pass the registers again, Sept has been replaced with the new catalog. SERVICE - maybe even with a smile - people!!

So after a quick look-through, I have to agree that the styling/poses are ridiculous. I'm sure they are trying to move into edgy, but really, how many of JC's core customers are really described as "edgy"? The only-on-a-model-trying-to-sell award goes to pg. 9, where the tip instructs us to "Buy a size or two larger, belt the waist and voila!" Um, I don't know ANY woman who buys a size or two larger. Ever. It reminds me of that SNL skit with Chris Farley and Dana Carvey as Gap SAs. They advise the customers (who are all trying on huge sizes) to "just cinch it" with a belt.

But enough - love the Campo bag, too (love my patent Bella for rain, but there's always room in the closet for another :) and the silk paisley perfect shirt. Other than that, probably waiting for holiday rollout.

Oh, LOVED Fifi on the table, but when I tried it on, I thought it looked a little flat in front because the ruffle stops before the button placket. Just me :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Good lord, Gail needs to reel it in! The layering & styling in the women's portion of the catalog is completely ridiculous.
On the other hand the styling, photos, and theme of the men's catalog was refreshing and interesting. Why couldn't they have done something like that for the women's section??

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree w/ Shannon, I love what they did with the men's catalog.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yes-the one model that seems to love striking the very odd pose in so many shots is really not doing them any favors. Who can even tell what the top looks like? Honestly--I need her to turn to me!

I am also noticing that things are definitely gone. They are disappearing rapidly from the website. Things at full price such as the Tweed flats in guava (almost gone) the Fleur de lis cardi and I know there's more. I guess it's safe to say there will be some things that do not make it to sale nor do a reappearance with a full size range as has happened in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I want to love the Wool Ribbon Script Coat, but they never show it buttoned, which I think would be the cutest way to see it!

As everyone else, I've noticed the more strung out too-cool-for-school poses lately too. They don't seem to highlight the clothes that well.

    ReplyDelete
  59. And, I know it's not brand new to today but I LOVE the Felted Wool Bistro Mini in all of its colors!

    ReplyDelete
  60. This new rollout has basically pretty much the same things. I do love the silver lace skirt, but I would never purchase because of the price. There are only size 2 and 4 left! I am going to wait until October for the Holiday rollout.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wow, more ruffles, more chiffon, more corsages, more embellishment. Don't I already have all this stuff? As SE Mom said, I'm ready for some simple lines in saturated colors. I still have a few items from the last roll-out in my cart, awaiting a promotion or markdown, but I didn't add anything today.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Off Topic

But I recently came across this

    Charlotte Russe Tiered Cami

It looks like a nice/affordable alternative to the J Crew Tiered lace cami...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Oooh, I want the rugged Lexi tote! I absolutely love the Borge Garveri leather and the unlined bags.

Em, if I remember correctly, you were looking for the bright blue pencil skirt on the weekly exchange after missing last year's. Nice to see the color has returned, hope you get one. I totally love mine, it's such a gorgeous color, even if not exactly the same shade, but it looks pretty darn close. Today I am wearing last year's dougle-serge in deep persimmon and loving it every bit as much as I did last year. J.Crew does pencil skirts so well IMO and that is the only other thing I want from the latest rollout. I am ordering the sapphire tweed pencil today. Considered the Oona but it is too close to the python pencil from last year, which I have. Rather save my money for something new and fresh.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Love the patent Campo in both sizes but especially in the black plum color!

LizPoms - if you want to see the difference in a small and medium in the Jaspe I posted some pictures on my "blog" (it's not really a blog just a place for me to clip pictures :) They are at: http://jmpbsfavorites.blogspot.com/

I usually take a medium in sweaters and most tees, but I sized down in the Jaspe, hth!

    ReplyDelete
  65. CaptainCrew, I'd love to see your thoughts on here when you get the sapphire skirt. I doubt I'll get it because I'd have to have it altered... agree with you on the oona skirt & last year's shimmery python, which I also have & really, really like.

I wish j.crew would make more tweed jackets, fitted little jackets to go with their tweed skirts.

That oona coat looks like it could be a disaster - just based on the online shots, it looks like a bad silhouette - just way too room.

Mommydearest, thanks for the laugh by bringing up the "gap girls." Those were priceless skits.

    ReplyDelete
  66. After the raves for the mens' stuff, I went back and checked out their new arrivals. The toggle front merino hoodie looks absolutely to die for, so I guess I just found my hubby's birthday present! It just looks so thick and cozy, and I love the toggles. They always make me think of Paddington Bear's coat.

    ReplyDelete
  67. CaptainCrew - the Oona is not at all like the python pencil skirt from last year, IMHO. I have both... the Oona is a nubby, black & white thick tweed, whereas the python is textured, with a definite shimmery, silver sheen to it.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I have both the Jaspe sweatshirt and hoodie, I have them both in an XS. I think the hoodie fits more TTS than the sweatshirt, which does run on the larger side.

Also anyone who might be interested in the Donegal shawl cardigan #19247 the one in stores and the one you will receive if you order online is that the same one pictured. The pictures show it will a different shade of wool under the collar but during production they removed this and forgot to update the pics in the catalog and online, talked to my PS about it this morning. Bummer the gray part is what made it cute in my opinion. Now it's a pass.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I ordered the Oona coat and the tall black roadster boots this morning---and now they're already selling out in the small/large sizes, respectively.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I don't think I'll be buying any long coats since I still haven't worn the Carrie jacket from last year. But I am into the Stadium Cloth Winnie jacket. I love the strappy-buttons!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Today's roll-out didn't see me reaching for the credit card, but the small patent Campo bag in Black Plum Yikes is high on my list. That is one awesome bag. I'm a huge fan of patent leather bags and shoes. IMHO, we need to move on from corsage tees and ruffled necklines. Granted, I love these feminine touches, but I'd like to see J. Crew return to the classic aesthetic and quality in fabrics that put them on the map.

  73. That's the Barbie doll pose!

I vividly remember moving her L-shaped arms up and down when I was little.

  74. my god...bug pin is right. everything is disappearing from the site so fast! i added the double-cloth camino coat in light pewter this morning and i just went back to my cart to place the order...and it's gone! sold out...and that was even a backorder! this is insanity :(

    ReplyDelete
  75. You guys do know to put 9 items in the cart for things you are watching so you can see what is selling the fastest? I do this with my favorite items so I will know which I need to budget for fastest. I have been surprised sometimes with items I thought would sell out right away vs. ones I didn't think would that were quickly gone.

  79. Thanks Packola--you have me very curious that seems cute! Do you have/order it?

Marisa-the ribbon coat is shown closed in the other two colors (navy/red) so you could check it that way. HTH.

Sharon/Laura-it is a bit surprising how quickly some items have gone. I am not sold on the popularity/demand/cute-factor versus the numbers they guestimated they should purchase. There may not be as much rhyme or reason to our novice selves. For ex. a coat being sold-out already?? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me;)

  80. I don't necessarily think stuff is sold out yet (except maybe those ridiculously priced Collection pieces) - probably just temporarily yanked to get people worried about losing out on stuff so they buyrightnow. I think this happened with some pieces last year like the Maggie... only to show up in the Final Sale section(and go through several markdowns) later.

I totally agree with FFM about recreation of older pieces. I have made the mistake of not buying (or worse, selling) pieces from past seasons because I assumed that JC's quality would stay high and that they'd continue to offer great stuff. I can't deal with another ruffle/raw-edged whatever, but would snap up a 2007 Bella or Gramercy coat in a heartbeat.

  81. I totally agree, silver_lining! I would love to see the Bella jacket reproduced, I'd definitely buy that!

  82. I ordered the Oona tweed coat this afternoon. I think it looks classic and timeless, I hope it fits well.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Canadian, please please report back on your thoughts about the Oona tweed coat. I just cannot tell.

I agree that the low numbers could very well be a matter of lower inventory vs. popularity. I just "try" to watch which ones fall from my cart the fastest. It may not always work but I can't spend $2K which is what I have in my cart right now (if I multiply by one instead of nine). I've bought a pretty large amount so far this fall already.

I don't need any standard items, because I've been buying for over five years. I am too embarrassed to say how much I have in the way of shirts, cashmere sweaters and the like. But if I could go back in time to some of the tweed and herringbone jackets and jewel, tweed and velvet trimmed shoes of the early Mickey/Jenna years, I would have bought more of those.

Someone with a scanner should post the fall catalogs of 2004, 2005(!) and 2006(!). Would make your knees weak.

One more thing, the men's section of the new catalog is amazing. My husband doesn't wear a ton of J. Crew but wow, what a change! What do the guys here think?

    ReplyDelete
  84. bugpin-thanks! i wish they would show it on a real person that way.

  85. Hi guys - new here, but have been following the blog for a while. I'm interested in purchasing the Nottingham boots, but have noticed a bunch of new Brewster boots available for cheap on ebay. I think the Brewsters are a couple of seasons old - does anyone own a pair and do they really run large? Also, is the shaft super-tall? I'm 5'1" so ... Thanks!

  86. Everyone: Thanks for sharing. I actually enjoyed reading everyone's take on the new roll out *more* than the new roll out itself! ;)

Kitsmommy: Congrats on the trench! Please share your review once you get it. :)

Professor: I agree with you- the layering has to be for visuals than for realistic interpretation. :) Otherwise, I have been seriously under-accessoring. ;)

cdp & FFM: Thank you for sharing what your SA / PS told you about this roll-out. It did feel a bit small to me, but I also thought it was very close (in release date) to the last roll out (which was just a few weeks ago). But your explanations that the next one in October is the big one makes complete sense. :)

FFM: I am *so* with you about bringing back the "classics" of the Bella, Lexington, and the Maggie jackets!!! :)

Ms. Pan: I with you on the Outerwear- nothing overly special or "got. to. have." But I am hoping the next roll out will offer a bit more. :)

Lindsey B.: Happy to hear the new FS code worked! :)

Twiga & Crew Cricket:: With you on the Patent Campo Bag- what a lovely handbag!!! And with the patent- you really don't have to worry about the weather, or random scratching too. :)

Nils: Super excited about your comment. I agree with you that J.Crew did a very good job incorporating artist Ryan McGinness in the latest Men's catalog. I also liked their partnership/inclusion of other artists like Richard Haines and Alex Katz.

Bug Pin: You are too funny with the "lost elderly female" look comment!!! ;)

Chelsea: "hobo without the chic"... great comment!!! :)

MommyDearest: Your story made me cringe. I hate when that happens. Why would the SA pretend to not have the catalog- especially after you were told by the manager? Ugh! Especially since the new arrivals hit stores on Tuesday!? Despite the hassle the SA gave, I am happy to hear you got the new catalog! :)

Shannon: Could not agree with you more. :) Gail definitely "needs to rail it in" with some of the styling/ layering!!! ;)

Pansy: LOL! It is the Barbie doll pose!!! ;)

  87. Not about new rollout, but I have to share my disappointment. I was laid off last Spring and havn't been able to shop much. I'm finally getting ahead and deciced to splurge on a pair of shoes - the cossette black peep toe maryjanes that just got marked down to $125. well, just got them and it's love....but the strap isn't long enough to buckle! Barely enough to thread through the buckle! Back they go....:(

    ReplyDelete
  88. yay a mini Campo bag! I bought the original one and it was GORGEOUS, but just too big I ended up returning it. I'm not usually a fan of patent leather, but I'll give the new one a shot.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Lori J. I have that problem with all J.Crew shoes that have am ankle strap or other kind of strap. The espadrilles are especially bad. The PS at my store told me she has the same problem too, that she can't wear J.Crew shoes with a strap because the strap is not long enough for her, either.

I don't think my ankles are abnormally thick or anything, and the PS's definitely are not.

  90. Laura - sure, as soon as I get my Oona tweed coat I'll report.
I'm always greatful for the great reviews JCA post on this blog, as we have no B&M in Canada.

  91. i really like the printed kelsey ruffle top even though i agree with most posts that the ruffles are starting to be too much. i also really like the paisley shirt and dress... a nice men's print. although not new, i'm still obsessing over the gray nottingham suede flat boots. does anyone know how they fit?

    ReplyDelete
  92. oh, and i too am obsessed over the patent campo bag (probably the small one).... i love patent!

  93. OT, (and if this is too OT I won't be offended if you remove this post Alexis) I just got home from an event at Ann Taylor Loft that I have to say was wonderful! They had a DJ spinning, personal stylists available plus food & drinks (I didn't partake in the noms though). Best of all I got 30% off everything and bonus points. The store was crowded but they had PLENTY of staff on hand to help everything flow. The line for the cash register was to the door yet I don't think I waited more than 10 minutes to pay.

It was so well executed from start to finish. They sent out personalized invites last week. They gave me a little "thank you for coming!" card. I admit I bought more than I would have at any other time at ATL. Kudos to them and I wish J.Crew (and Anthro for that matter) would do something like this.

  94. Bugpin,

Nope, I haven't gotten it yet but I am tempted to try it out.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I agree with Laura - I would absolutely LOVE to see some older catalogs, especially the London one the JCA's have raved about. I didn't start collecting them until January 2007!

  96. went to the same event, Roxy, at ATL and it was GREAT:)

  97. I just ordered the mini patent Campo in black plum and the Jaspe boyfriend sweatshirt. I would like these two items, among others and expect they may sell out quickly given how popular they seem here today. Granted, we JCAs don't necessarily represent the views of the majority of J.Crew customers but we may be a good indicator and well, I have 60 days to return them for a full refund and the shipping was free - thanks Jay and Alexis for the FS code! If the Campo sold out I would be pretty disappointed because I cannot do those huge oversize bags at all but I do love the style and color of the mini Campo.

The bag looks darling, but in my experience patent can either look really luxe or really cheap. I sure hope it's luxe. If you go to the handbag page and select just the Campos, the first pic with the two bags together shows the black plum to be more wine than the product page so that's another concern as I'd really prefer the darker purple color. Oh well, I guess I'll see soon enough and I'll definitely report back.

  98. Lori J. & Cheesygoodness:
I have the same problem with a lot of JC strapped shoes. I don't have particularly thick ankles. I just hope they'd make the straps a tad bit longer and more holes instead of the styles now. Those Cossette Mary Janes looked really cute...

    ReplyDelete
  99. I went to do some returns today and picked up the new paisley perfect shirt and a new rose print tee. I wanted to try on the new sequined ribbon top in champagne but they only had black which looked more for older ladies.

OT, BR was having 40% all FP jewelry at the store for card members.

  100. jcrew.com is down. did we break it?

    ReplyDelete
  101. there are some great things, but I keep feeling like Jenna is taking J.Crew in the direction of Brooklyn hipster rather than staying true to the J.Crew brand. I pulled out some 2007 sweaters today and thought this is the REAL J.Crew (i.e. Paris catalog, even last year's Prague!). I'm kinda disappointed in some of the styles - they are sloppy, not classy. I also HATE the booties and florescent socks with all these beautiful skirts/dresses. Not for me.

I hope the October roll out is better. There are some great things, just not as much as I normally like. Also, does it seem like there are FEW styles of coats? Maybe more come out later?

    ReplyDelete
  102. I still haven't received my catalog - it will probably come the middle of next week. I am going to my b&m on Saturday and hope to try on the kelsey top in plum raisin, the deco skirt, the dream stripe cardigan, and garland scoopneck tee. I am also interested in the new paisley dress, but I'm sure my b&m won't have it. Plus, it's probably too dressy for my lifestyle. I wish I had ordered the other paisley dress before it sold out. I will keep hoping for a pop back in my size. I think the new bow top is beautiful, but again, not for me. I wish they'd come out with a nice knit version.

  103. Upset! I just wore my double-serge pencil skirt for the 2nd time and when I took it off tonight, I notice that there was a rip up the back vent!!

    NOT cool, Jcrew...

    Should I:

    a) exchange and size up (although it fits perfectly) to allow extra room to walk/for the vent

    b) exchange for the same size and assume it was a fluke

    c) return and move on

?? I love the bronze twig color!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Ugh, bummer, so sorry!

If I really loved everything about the skirt, I would get the same size and color but have the vent altered to allow more room for walking as long as the style allows for that.

    ReplyDelete
  105. silver lining,

I agree with you. The stuff is NOT really sold out. Remember the Liberty Fabric Poppy jacket. It "sold out" within a day or two and then was backordered for close to 3 months and now a TON are just sitting in the sale section!

More will return...if you are looking for a particular item...

    ReplyDelete
  106. As far as stuff being sold out I ordered a pair of metropolitan ankle boots in black when it got down to 13 pairs in my size. Now there are tons in my size! I was on a JCrew ban too (boo, I am weak!). I can't wait to get them next week, though.

    ReplyDelete
  107. jcmama, I haven't had a ton of problems with most of JC's ankle straps, but I did notice a problem with the slingback on the pair of Cate satin slingbacks that I tried. Although they fit OK once they were on, it was a wrench getting them there. There's no adjustable clasp or section with elastic, so those bad boys better fit you just right or no go. I feel like as cute as the styles of JC shoes are, fit leaves a bit to be desired overall.

    ReplyDelete
  108. kendra, that's terrible. Was it the cotton or the wool double-serge? Pudding and the Post-Fab Princess had the same thing happen to her cotton double-serge in bronzed twig, I believe. Maybe the fabric on that one is a little more fragile for some reason. I would return like for like and maybe see if a tailor could reinforce the fabric at the vent somehow.

I don't own the bronzed twig but have just about every other double-serge and I wear them a lot with no problem. I drive a sportscar to/from the office so need to be careful to exit in the most ladylike way when wearing those skinny pencil skirts. I've felt it constrict slightly as I get out of the low car but after reading about P&thePFP's experience I always take the time to move a little more delicately. Shouldn't happen though... bummer.
    :(

  109. Silver Lining/Summer-
I am not sure I will agree with that theory this year. Things are FAR different this time around as they had already ordered a TON of inventory last year by this time and I believe that's why they had so much more and it kept going on sale, sale, sale. They've had time to re-organize their thoughts and see to their bottom line in this economy. It's just my opinion that they were cautious this time and are trying to sell mostly full price offering a small promo here and there (like free ship or sweater promo). I think it's a new tactic for them. They haven't even offered any private sales for new Fall merch. Honestly, I think it would be kinda smart. Bring on more roll-outs with less qty per item. Make people start feeling they better step up and buy it if it's special or it's gone. Start to change the minds of all the brainwashed customers (me included) that are used to and expecting it will all go to sale if they just wait long enough.

I do think there are items that they perceive will do well so they plan for re-order with their factories.

Just my 2 cents--I could be way off and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

  110. Lori J.: Sorry to hear the news. :( I wish you the best!!! :)

Lori J. & Jacquelyn & JCMama: I hear you on the straps! I have a narrow foot and slim ankles, yet some straps don't fit me right (e.g. tight). I thought it was just me (and some randomly defective shoes)! ;)

Jenny: If you get the new campo let us know! :)

Kendra: I agree- there is something gorgeous about the patent campos! :)

ShuLvr: Congrats on the campo in black plum- which is a gorgeous shade! :)

Roxy: That ATL event sounded amazing!!! :)

JC: I am *not* feeling the florescent socks either! ;)

Kendra: Sorry to hear about the skirt! That sucks! :( I would call J.Crew and explain. I am sure they will offer to take it back. :)

BugPin: I laughed at your brain washing comment because I agree with it! :) I think they are retraining customers to think inventory is low and to buy full price again. :)

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yes, I agree with all of the above concerning games with inventory and training us to buy at full price, and I am extremely frustrated by it. I continue to misjudge what actually is selling out versus what they seem to be playing games with, or maybe I'm wrong on this. I missed out on a couple of things last month and am disappointed with the new rollout, so I'm sad I missed them. I suppose JCrew is reading this right now with some glee, as I seem to have fallen for their tricks. BTW, JCrew, found a hole in the armpit of one of my scoopneck ts last night that I've worn five times at the most.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I backup Summer and Silver Lining point of view. If the staff is really selling out quickly, why than sale section is updated so regularly (every day to be precise) with once disappeared items in multiple sizes and colors? It happended for example with silk indigo or dazzling dot skirt. Although maybe they are playing on both sides -cutting clothes quantity and applying weird selling techniques to shake of surpluses. I feel it's not right and still I love them so.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Can't stand the vapid teapot pose. I preordered the bomber jacket but couldn't tell it was cropped until I saw it on the website. It will probably end up going back to the store:(

    ReplyDelete
  114. I am planning to hold out until the October rollout. I need to diversify my closet a bit as its almost all J.Crew. I'll probably check out Banana Republic and AnnTaylor/ATL. I do love the blue double-serge pencil skirt so I may purchase that one as I have regretted missing it last year. I am waiting for all the jewelry to start to go on sale but lots of lovely peices. I must hold out!

    ReplyDelete
  115. As as inventory tricks:

I agree with Silver Lining and Summer,

I mean, the 3 things I bought at full price end of Aug. are now on sale in ALL colors and sizes....silly me. I am going to wait. If something I want sells out there will always be cute stuff elsewhere and knocks of JC are cropping up everywhere! So I will buy on sale and wait and not fret!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Genny ^ I'm curious what those 3 items were--if you wouldn't mind sharing?

Can't stand "the pose" Cannot even view the front of some of these items. I am not sure what Mickey is thinking allowing this to hit the site. Not to mention (love this model but) she does look like her arm is broken or something. Like a Barbie that needs to have her arm snapped back into it's socket-yuck.

While venting, how do you sell $325 shoes with a site that provides only one view--that which is a side view? You can barely tell what some of these shoes look like and there is no other way to view them. Bad.

Hoping this rant will make changes happen--like when we let them know how absurd no lining and no interior view of $200-$400+ handbags were! Changes were made:)
