Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me

FabulousFloridaMommy (FFM) regularly guest blogs on outfits she creates with items that you, the members, request. :)
FFM has done it yet again! A big "thank you!" to FFM, who has created a fabulous outfit for numerous requests on styling J.Crew's "new arrivals" in the "Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me" post!

To view the wonderful sets, click on the links below. (The name of the link relates to the request for an outfit.)
Are there any items from J.Crew (that you either own or are thinking about getting) that you would like FFM to create outfit ideas. Feel free to include additional info like: the climate/season you want to wear the item/outfit, as well as age bracket/lifestyle. :) After a few days, FFM will select a few items (from the feedback) to create a couple of Polyvore outfits with those items (which will then be posted for all).

What J.Crew pieces do you often wonder how to use in an outfit? What J.Crew items would you like to see an outfit created for (please include item name or item number)? Do you have any J.Crew items in your closet that you are unsure how to style with? Please, let us know! :)

  1. I am super glad for this post. :) I keep meaning to ask if FFM can do some sets for the bright azul and bright berry colors but keep forgetting. I bought them, not realizing exactly what they meant by "bright" and now I'm not sure what to pair it with. :) Thanks so much, FFM!

  2. Ditto on the neutral colors, that outfit looks so polished.

Question for FFM: what colors would you pair up with bottoms in "faded cement"? Any ideas? Trust your fashion eye. Thanks! AR

  4. Dear FFM,
I've been thinking about a navy glitter cardigan (item 88788). Is it better to wear this with a dark tank and skinny black jeans, or wear it over a flouncy dress (which I don't have)? It's such a beautiful cardigan but I'm not sure how and what occasion to wear it.

  5. OT: I don't think the code ROCKCENTER for free shipping works anymore...I didn't think it would last long....I used it Sunday night b/c I knew it might be gone as soon as yesterday!

    ReplyDelete
  6. yes, rockcenter doesn't work anymore.

As jcrew is monitoring the blog, we should not publish this kind of code on the front page anymore. If anyone gets this sort of codes, jcrew would be less likely to find out if we only sharing codes in discussions.

  7. Thanks everyone! I love the Neutral colors, too. :)

AR: I made a set of my suggestions to wear with the color Faded Cement: Click Here . HTH!

  8. this is totally OT, but does anyone know what it means when your UPS tracking # does not work? I placed 2 orders-one shipped yesterday afternoon and the tracking # given to me by JC, when entered into the UPS tracking system, says that it has no record of that item. My other order, which shipped last night, is in the system. WTF? Should I not expect to receive the first one?

    ReplyDelete
  9. No sometimes jcrew gives you the tracking number but it hasn't actually started the shippping process yet. at least that's what i think. that has happened to me a lot. you should eventually get the item, just expect longer then if it had actually been shipped 2 days ago.

  10. Can i ask a style question? I am originally from the south, and i have never owned a pair of boots before. about a month ago i purchased the brown boots from jcrew (haven't worn them because it was still 80 degrees where i live) and i am visiting my family up north and my sister talked me into getting the black boots also. The reason for this is that i will be moving to france, where i expect there to me more of a winter then i am used to. I am thinking about taking the black boots back because i don't know how much wear i will get out of them. Does everyone agree you need a brown and a black pair of boots? or does most people only go with one color?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anon @7:49: I personally own Black, Brown, Camel, and Bone colored boots, and wear each pair according to my outfit/color scheme...I think you should take Black AND Brown, IMHO. :) HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Love the outfits FFM, thank you for putting them together. Very classy and although most (if not all) the items are current JCrew offerings, some are basic enough to be other items that are already in your closet like the ivory skirt/pants, dark jeans, etc. I totally agree with your comment that the right accessories make the look.

A few days ago someone asked for an outfit paired with brighter-coloured cords. I would love to see the same as I have several pairs of bright cords and usually wear with neutral or very dark tops and shoes but would like to see what you suggest. I have light titian hair and cannot wear yellow or orange tops but pink and red can work.

  13. anon @7:49

Keep both pairs of boots! You are moving to France, style is very important and you won't regret having options. Plus, the winter can be quite chilly and boots provide that protection against the cool winds. You will likely wear the boots all winter so two pair may not even be enough.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I moved from the US to the UK a year ago but knew it would only be for 2 years. I just took my black leather dress boots and pair of "snow" boots and put my brown leather boots in storage. Here is why...

Yes, closet space is about non-existent in Europe...people use small wardrobes...I haven't found the need for both and I knew I might find some things over here to buy and wanted to have what little closet space I do have for my European buys:)

Also, have to make sure there is room in the seacrates for our return with all our "finds"

    Just my thoughts...

  16. The promo code ROCKCENTER is no longer working!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anon@7:49

Grew up in Texas, now living in Paris. If this is a style you love and will wear, bring both colors. You'll be glad not only because boots are an easy and stylish choice (you'll have two!) but that they are warm. In 2008, it was chilly until June.

Good packing is important; I second that closets in most European countries are small, but that would not deter me from bringing both pairs of boots.

    ReplyDelete
  18. FFM,

Could you make an outfit using the mediterranean blue herringbone ecole jacket? I tried styling it like it was on the back of the catalog, but it REALLY doesn't look right. I'm an engineer in my mid-20s so anything for a business/office environment and also casual.

    Thanks in advance!!

Please create sets for the HG soiree and Heather Gray Martine. Just purchased on FS. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I would definitely advise to have at least 2 pairs of boot (I personally have a lot more than that). But I would maybe suggest waiting to get to France and buy a pair there. Fashion and style is very different in France (and is in any country) and you might regret bringing boots that would look out of place. For example, as much as american girls love their uggs, these boots would not cut it in many countries. If you walk around in them in Moscow, people will think you are a hobo. Seriously. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yup, ROCKCENTER is over and JCrew just lost some more money that I didn't need to spend anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  22. IMHO, JC should just waive the shipping for repeat customers. The promo codes are pretty bogus. I rarely spend over $175 at a time, but I definitely spend that much a month.

FFM: Love the outfits. You rock!

    ReplyDelete
  23. The other J.Crew blog has new arrivals posted.

    ReplyDelete
  24. FFM - I really like the taffeta a-line skirt
(98827), but can't decide on the color (I really like the light flamingo or bright aquamarine, but wonder if the warm taupe or warm champagne would be more versatile and more appropriate for work), and I'm not sure how I would wear it. I'd love it if it could be something I could wear in warm and not-so-warm weather, but I'm not sure if that would work. Would it look okay with boots? My work environment is not too formal - no one really wears suits. Anyhow, help!

    ReplyDelete
  25. What other blog has new arrivals?

    ReplyDelete
  26. my 2 cents about France. bring both pair and be prepared to buy more. Your style will change slowly and become more French. Ankle boots are really big here (UK)and in France right now. You will want to buy them once you arrive. And, it is cold it snowed last week.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just got an email from J Crew regarding a new store opening! Lake Forest, Illinois--I am so excited! A bit out of the way for frequent shopping, but a store I will totally check out during the Grand Opening. Has anyone on here been to a store opening? Are there any special deals or incentives offered? A new LL Bean opened in Old Orchard last week and they offered $500 gift cards to the first 50 customers. Am I dreaming to think that J Crew might also offer some sort of fun deal like that???

    LOVE this blog...

    L

  28. searcy: That skirt is beautiful...I am a big fan of Taffeta, and own quite a bit of it myself. I think the Champagne and Taupe are perfect colors for Fall/Winter, and the Flamingo and Aquamarine are perfect for next Spring. I would not personally suggest wearing the skirt with boots, but would recommend tights with pumps, or a pair of oxfords that are very *in vogue* this season. The skirts would be fab with a turtleneck, button down slim shirt, or tee(if allowed) for your work environment. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  29. searcy: If you really favor the aquamarine or flamingo, you can always wear them with Camel, Ivory, or Chocolate Brown to tone the skirt down for the office. Have you seen them in person? The colors seem to look so different in person than they do online, and I fear those two will be brighter than you expect. You can call CS and ask them to get one of each from the *mock* store in order to get an IRL opinion...just a thought...

    ReplyDelete
  30. OT: I ran by the Soho store before work to do an exchange and they told me today/tomorrow only they are having an extra 50% off sale items. I will be swinging by during my lunch break and will update with the items I see there.

    ReplyDelete
  31. anon @ 7:49: I own black, brown and tan boots in both high and low heels. Like FFM said, you match to your outfit accordingly. :)

Also, here is my request for FFM if she hasn't already done so. Outfit ideas (casual) for the Snow Leopard Tartine. Mine should be arriving today and I am anxious to begin wearing it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. thank you all SO much for the advice! I was just going to use my black uggs instead of the boots before but now I'm glad I have two good leather pairs (both are jcrew!) I appreciate all ya'lls comments. Lastly, I got espresso (dark brown) and black... Should I exchange the espresso for a more distinct brown? Would espresso and black be different enough since they're both dark? Sorry Ive just never matched boots to outfits and can't think ahead! You've definately talked me into the two pairs though!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love my taffeta a line skirt in taupe. I liked all of the colors and especially the champagne, but I felt like the taupe was more substantial for winter. In wore it with shell pink sweater and the gold rimmed bauble necklace. I thought it was a pretty outfit!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would get a lighter pair. I live in the UK and I have a black, dark brown and a light brown pair well and may others but if you are only going to bring two pair I would go with a black and a lighter brandy colored pair.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks for the sets with the bright pink cardigan.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Roxy: Thanks so much for the sale info! Wasn't planning to go to J Crew today but will definitely head over there if it is additional 50% off!

    ReplyDelete
  37. FFM - I love all of your sets! So adorable! :) I need help with the Sketchbook Belle rose skirt -- I don't know what to wear with it now that it's getting colder in Boston. Any help would be appreciated! : )

    ReplyDelete
  38. FFM, I love the sets. :) You are great!

I know this probably seems silly, but I am (and have been) having a really difficult time wearing my dream tie sweater in navy. I can't really find anything that looks good with it...I know you have done several sets with the dream tie cardigan, but if you have any specific ideas for the navy, that would be great! Business-casual sets are always very much appreciated.

    Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  39. FFM, I love the outfit. Cute! I see that you're using a cream colored bag, so I wanted to throw this out to the group: is it okay to use ivory or cream handbags in the fall and winter?

Aren't Ugg's indoor shoes? People are wearing them outside????

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks himmiefan! Yes, Cream and Ivory bags are always appropriate for Fall/Winter...then they are simply called *Winter White*. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. FFM-Great sets as always...on the topic of those taffeta skirts. What color tights would you pair them with?? I am eyeing it too but need some FFM advice....

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am also having a hard time figuring out what to wear with my Navy Dream Tie Cardigan! FFM, you do such a great job, could you please help with this one... I am really stumped!
    Thanks,
    Kirbdog

  43. FFM: What do you think about the Sketchbook roses Belle skirt? Would you say it'll work for winter? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  44. FFM: Forgot to say that it's so helpful to see how you put outfits together. I'm waiting for my dotted victoria and can't wait to try it on with the jackie!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Himmiefan- no, Uggs are for outdoors. I believe they were originally designed for surfers getting out of cold water onto sand. But you should see how popular they are out here in CA!

    ReplyDelete
  46. FFM: I love the honey glaze and and gray with the Golden Roses Renee coat. It's very chic!
    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Haha, thanks Kirbydog! Now I don't feel so fashionably challenged... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  48. FFM: thank you!!!!

I could have sworn I checked your blog...

How do you keep up with all these requests???? :))

    ReplyDelete
  49. 45th & Madison store also extra 50% off--they had a bunch of abstract print rose skirts, sketchbook rose skirts, cords, chinos, ecoles in the gray herringbone.

    ReplyDelete
  50. cass: are the items with the discount final sale? (I imagine so.) TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  51. FFM and all others - thanks so much for your responses! I love the taupe + pink idea, and FFM good point on the bright colors. The aquamarine does look really bright, but it's so pretty! If they go down in price I might get the taupe for work/winter and the blue for fun in the summer :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I really feel like the camel university pant would help my wardrobe a lot...anyone got a sense of if/when it may go on sale?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Cleo, yes, whenever there is an extra percentage off it is final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  54. someone previously mentioned there would be new markdowns taken tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I snagged the orange Lucille for $100 ; ) Some other items I noticed in the additional 50% sale section:

lots of silky pleated tops, painters tees and cords; some abstract print flannel rose dresses (sz 2-8 I believe), ecole herringbone in orange (sz6), velvet ecole in the reddish pink (multiple sizes). Palo Alto store still has lots of sketchbook rose skirts.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anon @ 11:09,

Like others, I have several pair of boots in black and different shades of brown. I think what you have is really versatile and will go with just about anything. If paired right, the dark brown can even go with black. I do think a brandy/mahogany type of brown is fab with black. It breaks it up a bit. In Europe, especially France, they wear a lot of black and neutrals. You'll probably go through some culture shock with a lot of things, including fashion. But after being there and observing/people watching (so fun!), you'll start to adapt your style. HTH! Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Totally OT, but when making a return for something purchased online there are two boxes (always two) that say Refund xxxxxxx. What are these for and why are there two of them? If I return something isn't it automatically credited to my card? Just wondering. Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I should say two boxes on the return slip. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  59. OT, but can anyone refer me to a good PS. I have contacted a couple but none of them really meet my needs (such as looking out for sale items or finding out an item thats supposedly sold out). Thanks;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. If anyone is looking for the snow leopard tartine, the Michigan Ave. store in Chicago had about a dozen left. Also noticed at least six sketchbook rose skirts. There were three shiny patent crinkle totes left (two kelly green and one yellow). Got the last gold one for $54.99. Also bought a velvet ecole in brown and a liberty print shirt ($44.99 each). Phone number is 312-751-2739. Katherine assisted me and was super nice.

    ReplyDelete
  61. OT but I just got a call from my J crew her is San Antonio and they told me that all sale items are %50 off today and tomorrow only! I am busy and not sure when I can get away in the next couple of days!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Does anyone know what %off the Pentagon City store is having???

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anon @ 3:19 can you give me your PS's email address? Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  64. OT - has anyone seen a bracelet anywhere that looks even remotely like the wide crystal garden bracelet? I love it so much but just can't justify the $95. Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  65. So does the red phone price match the additional 50% off final sale items?

    ReplyDelete
  66. OT: What is it with JCrew and weird bows this season...first it was that bow sweater with all the bows along the neckline that was overdone...now, posted online at another site, is a just out in stores cream sweater with a bow (in the weirdest size and placement on the front) I really love bows but in my opinion I really dislike both of these and am disappointed with the odd designs...how about some classics with a tasteful bow design please!:)

    ReplyDelete
  67. JCrewjunkie,

Those boxes on my slips have my name and the person's name that I shipped the items to...JCrew wants to know which one of us gets the refund I guess...esp. if it was a gift.

However, in my case, I ship all my stuff to family and friends and not to my billing address.

I hope that answers your question.

    C.C.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hello ladies. This is my first time posting here. This is such a fun site and it's keeping me from getting my work done!

FFM & searcy: I love the taffeta A line too! I have it in taupe and flamingo. The flamingo is bright - but in a good way. It looks really pretty with the beige chiffon rose tee if you have one. Also cute with the new critter tees - with the rose and bow appliques.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I love boots...all mine are low heels b/c I don't like heels at 5'11. I have ivory, gray, navy, black and brown boots all in high and then low styles. Bring your boots!

I have lived in the UK and France and currently back in the UK for a few years. I did not adapt my style to European style. Some of the stuff they wear is very nice but most of it...definitely not me. I get lots of compliments on my JCrew clothes and it is so fun to shock people with some of my American wear! I just love it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. to clarify...high style means knee length boots and low means shortie type boots:)

    ReplyDelete
  71. We lived in France for a while and I visit my grandparents there frequently. I often receive a lot of compliments on the clothing I wear, which more often than not isusually JCrew. The French women love the classic American style, even if they do not emulate it. JCrew boots are so classic and well-made, they will surely fit with your new French wardrobe.

Interesting point about the UGGs not viewed favorably in Moscow, but I disagree about the rest of Europe. I have sent several pair of UGGs to various relatives on the continent and they love them. UGGs cost about double what we pay in the US so they prefer to have me send them over as it is cheaper, even when shipping is included. Of course, I'm only too happy to help them out because they send me some European goodies as well. So far I have not enticed them to view JCrew or they would be asking me to become the new UPS.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I was able to price match the 50% final sale over the red phone this afternoon. Have the sales associate initiate the call on the red phone and give them the information they need and that should do it!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Kate: I have only found 2 so far that resemble the crystal garden bracelet, however, they don't even have the colored crystals...the first is from Anthro Throng Of Gold Cuff , and one from BR Diamante' Bracelet .

Target would be a great place to look...they have a lot of *fashion* jewelry that is on trend at lower prices, as does Kohls. HTH!:)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anon with boots, I think as long as you dont bring a pair of uggs to Paris, you should be fine. My bf has this strange determination to buy me a pair of uggs and I just refuse. I really dislike uggs and they rank almost as high on my fashion list as crocs. I think the latter should be banned for people over 10 years old. I even remember some comedy show mentioned crocs as an excuse for americans to look sloppy in public or smth like. that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Fantastic! I ordered something from J.Crew via redphone on Thursday, and it arrived at my house today! Standard shipping. I'm very pleased with how quickly it was sent.

    ReplyDelete
  76. They have really improved their shipping and inventory problems. Some cancelled orders still exist but it is mostly sale items with low inventory.

I have been really impressed with JCrew in the past month, I have received many orders with zero problems.

I also agree with the other poster about the overuse of bows and sequins, the pictures of the new arrivals on the other blog are ugly. (IMO of course)

    ReplyDelete
  77. I like Uggs for 2 things: At home when your ankles are freezing, and the Ski Lodge. That's it. I don't own any, but if I did that would be it. OTOH, Uggs makes some very cute normal boots that I love, such as Brookfield and Cove.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anony@4:04. I agree with you on the UGGS. I live in the Midlands of the U.K. and UGGS are seen everywhere and I mean everywhere here...I have a really well made knock off pair that have soles made for snow and ice (most Uggs say they are not) and people want to know where I bought them all the time!!!

Also, my boss's wife who is from the U.K. said if I wore printed Wellies like JCrew sells people would think I am a gypsy (not a good thing here) Well, come to find out that is not good advice/true. I asked several (well respected) friends I have made and they said they are fine and I also see them sold at various stores too...

So what I am trying to say is wear what you want to wear and take advice (with a grain of salt) :) and a smile:)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anon@4:28...

Agree with you about the new arrivals...doesn't it look like the reindeer is missing some sequins??? and that bow is awful:( I guess my wallet will continue to thank me if JCrew keeps putting out this stuff...(IMO)

I am still having issues with problem orders from JCrew. Not as many as this summer but items still sent without tracking numbers and another 2 orders cancelled...I won't be doing any Christmas/gift shopping with them. Will stick with my reliable on retailers that I frequent. However, nice to hear you are having good luck:)

  80. FFM - thank you! The Anthropologie one is fabulous!! I might have to run there this afternoon. I also thought I might check The Loft, not a huge fan but they have had some pretty great jewelery lately.

  82. Can someone give me some clarification on the Belle skirts-I want one of these very lady-like looking skirts but it is a stretch for me. So, I want the most flattering and least full. I tried on the cotton belle from summer and needed the smallest sz 0 which my store was out of otherwise the 2 just seems to swallow me (and I am not short at 5'7").
I recv'd the sketchbook today and again, I love it in concept but it looks huge and billowy on me in the zero! I would LOVE to try the paintbrush floral--it looks a bit more slim down--am I right on this or not? Has anyone seen the paintbrush floral at store on sale? Does it run big like the others as well? Anyone know where there's either a lot of them or a Size 0? Thanks!

Oh and..I am thinking the reason I am having trouble with the looks/fit is that I am long through the body with shorter legs and I feel dumpy with the drop waist and length of the skirt. Should I just give it up as the skirt that was not meant to be?
Is there an different version that might be better such as the taffeta or A-line..Francie?? Do these run TTS?

    ReplyDelete
  83. I saw that new bow sweater in the store. I didn't think the bow looked too big for the sweater, but I think the fact that it is short-sleeve is really limiting for the winter. If you are going to wear a winter weight wool, I presume it is cold enough out that you want your arms fully covered. I also saw another ss cardigan just out, with a single hook and eye closure on top (no buttons) with the same color chiffon as the sweater covering the whole outside of the sweater. Came in cream, beige and black. Was not a fan. I guess these are more party-type tops than sweaters you would wear on a daily basis.

  84. I called the Orland Park, Ill., store and they also have the 50 percent off. Better yet, Michael, who is very nice, told me they had received new things from another store for the women's sale section. They had some suiting (they usually don't carry the suits) and cashmere on sale, he said. I have to work a different shift tonight because of the election, or I would be heading straight there after work. Luckily the sale continues tomorrow. Stewart

  85. ISSUES-I have had an issue with now my second starburst olive green cuff having hinge/closure problems--getting ready to order yet a third one. The paint falling off the carnaval necklaces-two colors same problem, I recv'd two separate shipments for a sweater that I actually called twice to cancel (the second call was to make sure it was canceled and I was told it shipped) and last I got the wrong necklace color today in the enamel link so i have to call and have them send the correct one. This is a first in awhile but it still says things ain't perfect. We also know the website is still not up to snuff.

  86. OT:
JCREW stores have 50% off promotion going on right now (2 days only)!

(just got myself a dream taffeta-sash cardigan in heather wheat and a tee for about $50)

Cashmere sale was pretty weak in the store though-they only had femme sweaters and crewneck tees (in very bright colors).

  87. Kate,

I actually have the Throng of Gold cuff. Bought it over the summer. I get many compliments when I wear it, and it's not big and bulky and awkward to wear. Totally worth buying. And FYI, they have one in a brushed silver color, too. Check it out in one of my sets on Polyvore:

  88. I called my b&m and they are also having 50% off sale. I wanted a crewcuts sweater that I had seen down there, but it was sold out. So, she called catalog and they told her that since it was a collection item, they wouldn't honor the 50% off. Dang! :( Oh, well, they lost a sale and saved me some money.

Marie Claire (Dec '08) features JCrew Frankie bag on
    p 42

(the bags are not available online anymore, this is ridiculous....)

  93. this may sort of OT but just wanted to give a quick rview about the lady day coat. I bought it in the royal violet with thinsulate. The color is fairly true to what you see online, it's definitely a vibrant purple. I had a tough time deciding between this color and the hthr majestic purple and finally hesitantly decided on this cuz i wanted something more purply and it is definitely a purple, whereas the majstic purple looked like it had more of a blue undertone.
Overall the I'm quite happy with the fit, the sleeves are the perfect length for me, covers my wrist comfortably. The shoulder and chest all fit quite nice, overall i think i'm fairly true to jcrew xs, if not on the smaller side. The bottom as someone previously mentioned does flare out a bit, does not lay close to your body. The fabric is quite nice, the knit is tight and the hand feel isn't rough(itchy) but feels substantial and can block some of the chilly toronto winds. Overall, i'm quite happy with the coat, not sure how warm it will keep me. The only thing is the coat is slightly heavy, might be becuae of the thinsulate but it's definitely lighter than some of my mackage and s&k coats.

    hope this information helps someone.

  94. math teacher,
That is good info. to know about collection pieces...I wonder if that always applies then...Was the collection piece on sale but no additional discounts?

  95. Anony@4:57

That is exactly why I don't buy JCrew jewelry...had similar problems in the past and store clerks (a friend or two of mine) have told me about stone issues as well...WAY overpriced and poor quality. I have learned and just keep on walking by the jewelry in the stores...

    Signed,
Saving my money for clothes and hubby buys me the real thing:) Lucky me (wink)

  96. anon @ 6:15pm I copied and pasted the link and it seemed to work for me but if not it, the post is on glamour.com's Slaves To Fashion blog as one of today's entries.

I hope you can find it.

  99. any shoppers in CT? i called both my stores (Canton and Westfarms) and they both said 50% off sale items and will end tomorrow. wondering if it's picked over or if there is anything good.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Went back to the Soho store after work -- the sale section is pretty well picked-over at this point. Two sparkle tweed skirts in size 6, lots of pewter and yellow tartine cardigans in size L, a few cashmere sweaters and plenty of the A-line taffeta skirt. May hit the 5th Ave store tomorrow since it seems like the 50% off sale is everywhere.

  101. Just got back from the Galleria JC in Dallas and they had 50% off as well. Still had a decent selection of sale items. SA also told me that they will be making mark downs on some of the newer items that will be effective this Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  102. anon @ 6:51 - it was a sale item - it's had about 3 markdowns. The explanation was that it was a collection item that wasn't sold in the store and therefore I couldn't apply the extra 50% off.

  103. sanfranciscoca - thanks for the tip about the Frankie bag, I will have to check out Marie Claire to see it in the magazine. I have the Frankie bag and I absolutely love it. Originally I wanted the Peyton but I decided on the Frankie at the last minute and I'm glad I did.

The Frankie bag is the perfect size so that it leans toward the current trendy look of a large bag but it's not so huge that it will be dated when the oversize bag trend is on the way out. I love the Borge Garveri leather and the poppy colour is striking with the gold brass hardware. I have not seen this bag on another woman's arm in person and it definitely turns heads. A classic style that I will enjoy for years to come.

I have my eye on the small Oslo bag as my next JCrew bag, so if anyone has it and can offer a review, please let me know.

  104. Just got off the phone with the SoHo store and no sparkle plaid tweed skirts left according to the sa. :(

  105. I just got back from Chevy Chase and Montgomery jcrews on a break from my conference visit to DC. Both had 50% off FINAL sale. Montgomery was a lot better than CC IMHO. They had a bunch of bright cords, wool dresses, cashmere pieces, patent flats & heels, and some rubber flats. I overheard at Montgomery that they'll be receiving new markdowns tomorrow. I don't know when the markdowns would be posted.

  106. math teacher: Just a lead for you--Couldn't find the sparkle tweed on the regular site, but I found a number of sizes this morning (0, 4, 8, 10, 12) using the following ebay link:

    http://shop.ebay.com/items/__jcrew-sparkle-tweed_W0QQ_nkwZjcrewQ20sparkleQ20tweedQQ_npmdnuZQQ_trksidZm38

Click on one of the "Sponsored Links" at the very bottom of the page. If it doesn't work, just search for "jcrew sparkle tweed" yourself. Good luck!

  110. julie - thanks. I would really only buy it with a percent off as I'm not willing to spend over $100 on a skirt. Oh well, it wasn't meant to be.

    ReplyDelete
  111. love: additional 50% off on sale items only, sorry I wasn't clear about it. Also, their (full-priced) coats are 30% off right now

and4mynexttrick: I love seeing JCrew items in magazines especially the ones I have :)
I also have the Frankie bag in guava, it's amazing how many colors I can wear it with...

    ReplyDelete
  112. Ended up getting the redish velvet ecole jacket for about 38 w/educator discount and 50% off. I would have much preferred the navy/grey type colors, but this was all they had and I couldn't turn it down. FFM, I really need to know what to put this with to not look like a Christmas or 4th of July advertisement. Thanks!!!

  113. A photo of Michelle Obama in Columbus, Ohio, wearing the infamous colorblock cardi on Nov. 2nd! :

So I guess even she re-wears clothes! ;-)

Way to go, Michelle! She really got the color combo right, this time. Big improvement, in my opinion.

  114. I snagged what must have been one of the very last Frankie bags in the guava last week and I am in thrall with the look and feel of it! At $129.99, it was like 70% off the original $395. I've never bought a "serious" bag from J. crew or anyone else online for that matter, since I need to inspect seams, etc., but I'm so glad I took this leap of faith. The leather is super nice and the color is great and I'm using it as a neutral. Are the bags always so good, and are the sales on the finer leather purses usually such a good percent?

    ReplyDelete
  115. love the neutrals. and speaking of neutrals, i just got the a-line taffeta skirt from the store in georgetown in taupe and champagne. they have final sale items for 50%, plus you can combine it with the student discount. they still have a decent selection if anyone's in the area.

    ReplyDelete
  116. The J Crew at Brea, CA has 50% off final sale as well. Tons of grey and yellow cotton belle skirts, a few of the paintbrush florals. 1 size 8 rhurbub andrea jacket, and a few of the leopard print cotton shirts (not on sale, but someone was asking for them?) Lots of the dream sash cardigan too.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Hi! If anyone sees the soiree crystal button sweater in grey in large at the stores, please let me know location. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  118. sanfranciscoca - I debated between the guava and poppy Frankie bag and went with the poppy because I wear a lot of neutral and black, especially in the winter. The guava looks like a wonderful colour. Is it more peach or more pink IRL?

anon @ 9:34 - The JCrew bags are exceptional quality but it's not always possible to get a significant deal as some of them sell out quite quickly. I have purchased several JCrew bags over the years and I love them all. Congrats on your new Frankie bag!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Just got back from South Coast Plaza store in CA and although they were having the 50% off promo on sale items, there were no sale items! I was told that everything was in the back, packed up and ready to ship back to the warehouse. I ordered some stuff on the red phone and got a 50% price match but they wouldn't wave the shipping even with over $175 in merchandise. Oh well... at least I tried.

    ReplyDelete
  120. and4mynexttrick: guava frankie is a bit darker IRL than it was shown on the JCrew website. There is one guava Frankie listed on ebay right now, if you look at the pictures-that's the exact color!

I love it. It bugs me a bit that it's unlined but other than that I love the color and size

    ReplyDelete
  121. ugh, i'm so mad! made a huge Jcrew order earlier today and now sale items are an extra 30% off with "EXTRA30"

    ReplyDelete
  122. anon@1:09am - I just tried extra30 and it's not working yet. I guess it will be a 'go,' soon, but it's not working at the moment. Sorry about your order. That's a bummer!.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Yes, I just tried to place a large order, too - just sale items, including a coat. Out of an $800 order, they only gave me a promotion of $57.00.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Holy #$%* guys, J.Crew is offering 30% off their sale!!! and its not even final sale!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. I called - it's only for items that end in .99 cents - so it limits things quite a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  126. While it is nice that JCrew is offering the extra 30% off sale stuff there is not anything in the sale items that excites me...plus, you have to enter the code and no free shipping...I would rather just have them take the 30% off automatically like other online stores...

I am going to wait...sounds like stores are sending their sale stuff back so should see more online items soon...

Plus, holiday stuff is coming out...will save my $ for HOPEFULLY exciting new stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Hi,

I was the one posting about the early morning order - they did have a few things that were only on for a few minutes (adorable, and stuff I have never seen, plus dirt cheap). I put them in my basket, and by the time I got to check out a few minutes later they were gone. I did order a few other staples. But, wow... it was almost 3am in the morning... I was surprised that things were disappearing that quickly.

Enjoy all of the upcoming new styles! I wish I could afford them - but it's budget time for us... I wish it wasn't... I could have some fun!!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Looks like merino Lea cardigan is on promo for $69.50 - the button-cuff cardigan and crewnecks are $59.50. Love that dark peony color!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Items that end in .99 are FINAL SALE! even though they are not marked final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  130. EXTRA30 now appears on the final sale page. Happy shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  131. EXTRA 30 is ONLY good with the items that end in .99 - not on any other on sale items...

    ReplyDelete
  132. Unless JCrew posts final sale on the items on the website they are not on final sale in my book...

I will buy and return and also print out the sale pages that I buy items from and does not say anything about final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  133. about teh 30% off. They do not say anything about it only being items that end in .99 on the website, do they? I just placed a huge order and noticed that I didn;t get any discount on my jackie cardigans so I have e-mailed CS about it.
    anyway, Spring preview

  135. This whole sale thing/confusion as to what is or what is not discounted and what might be final sale but is not noted is just really poor business practices in my book. I mean, Come On! Who has time to deal with this nickel and diming business/confusion....I for one don't.......barely time to read this blog and post:)

  136. FFM,
I noticed that you posted some things you are interested in getting rid of on the weekly exchange. Could you tell me what form of payment you accept from interested buyers? Thank you.

    ilovesequins

    ReplyDelete
  137. ilovesequins: I prefer Paypal as payment if you have an account. :)

    ReplyDelete
  138. 50%?! I just bought my sketchbook belle at 40%. Ah well.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Nothing excites me this 30% off except Featherweight waffle henley $6.99. But the shipping costs $5.99, which is almost the same as this item:( Bummer!!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Does anyone know when they added black as a choice for the jamie bag? I am now so happy I had not bit the bullet and purchased the dk cloud. That bag is gorgeous in the black. Yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  141. jenn_brak,

I noticed that, too! It was recently b/c I actually got the Jamie in dark cloud. I'm kind of an anti-black bag girl. I prefer other neutrals or color to make my outfit pop. Very picky about black bags (finish, hardware, etc.). However, the dark cloud goes with absolutely everything. The perfect grey color/neutral IMHO. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  142. green_dino, sometimes when the South Coast store ships out their sale inventory, they send it to the Brea mall J Crew. I've gone up there before and they've just had a wealth of sale items. This time around I think I'm gonna sit out the 30% off. There's nothing that's catching my eye in the sale section...probably because I've already bought everything I wanted!!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Purchased a pair of super 120s black pants that I really needed, but that's it...I'm trying so hard to wait for holiday rollout!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Marta B - that might be something for me to think about. I have the metallic silver uptown tote, so thought the grey might be kind of redundant. I just lost my favorite black bag too, which is why I was so excited. After seeing all the colors in person, except the black, I think the grey was by far the best choice! Glad you like your bag.

  147. OT, but if anyone is thinking of buying the favorite fit italian wool pinstripe classic trouser, just wanted to say that I LOVE these pants! They are fully lined and so flattering. I'm wearing them today and feel great. :)

    ReplyDelete
  148. lynzeeroo - thanks for the info about Brea mall. I was tempted to go there after work but it's a far drive with traffic and I bet it's really crowded b/c of Nordstroms semi annual sale. Plus I've really been spending WAY too much lately =/
