Some New Items Have Arrived At J.Crew.com!

"Thanks!" to The Konosur, Ashley, and others (in the "J.Crew Winter Coats: When To Buy?" post) who noticed that J.Crew updated their website with some new arrivals (and even pointed out a few new items which are listed below).

Although some of the new arrivals I am really excited about, there are a few that I am not so thrilled with (like the Herringbone Hayward Coat).

Some of the new additions include:
  • Sean bag (Item 99785; $268.00)
  • Herringbone Hayward coat (Item 96636, $495.00)
  • Solid Annette blouse (Item 97581, $110.00)
  • Leopard lawn Annette blouse (Item 96164, $78.00)
  • Solid rollneck silk dress (Item 97908, $148.00)
Also, "thanks!" to Molly who pointed out (in this post) that J.Crew's website main page shows (in rotation with the video) the new Accessories Catalog (refer to "Article on J.Crew's New Accessory Catalog" post). What do you think of some of the new arrivals? Do you love them, or would you leave them? Do you like the new J.Crew Accessories Collection Catalog?

  1. I have a very small frame and from the looks of the Herringbone Hayward coat I would look "engulfed". Additionally, I would never pay this much for a coat that is, for the most part, nonfunctional (i.e. I couldn't wear it on a daily basis). I do like the Weathered Stone color, very neutral which I like.

  2. JCrewJunkie: You hit all top three issues I had with the Herringbone Hayward Coat: cost, shape, and versatility. :) I totally agree with you about the engulfed look too! The coat doesn't flatter the model, could you imagine how it would look on the everyday consumer. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  3. I do not like the look of the links on the Sean bag - I think they look cheap. I said this in another post, but I think that the rollneck silk dress looks like it could possibly be a nightmare of wrinkles if you sit in it! I don't know if any of you read Go Fug Yourself, but they're always on the lookout for those horizontal wrinkles. :)

  4. That Hayward coat is weird. What are you supposed to do with those short sleeves? They're not even an attractive length.

    ReplyDelete
  5. kinda disappointed. Am I the only one who looks horrid in all shades of yellow, taupe and camel?
I think I'd like the Hayward jacket if it wasn't so shapeless and a lot less expensive. I guess the cropped sleeves are to be worn with the opera gloves which might get you through until late fall. As for the lepoard print Annette the print is too small (ditto for the Snow-leopard-print Tartine) and it looks like something a cougar would wear (or Gloria on Y&R). I do like the Snow-leopard Simone peacoat (96475) with the bigger print, it looks less predatory ;-)

  6. Dunno where my other post went. The homepage has been updated! Is that model Doutzen Kroes?

  7. On the men's side I like the chino workshirt and the Vintage thermal henley. The Red Wing boots look cool but at $325 they are nearing Alden boot territory. The Washed-wool tartan scarf looks nice but 80" is too long for my taste.

The repaired premium officer's chino is just silly. If they are going to sell $175.00 chinos make them pre-repaired with great detailing.

So far the winter coats are similar to last year. What I'd like to see is a Duffle Coat cut to around the hip and tailored. The one's I've seen at other shops have been cut to the knee and fit like tents.

  8. i am disappointed in the pant styles offered new this fall. they are all favorite fit, and that's definitely not my favorite! it's too high on a short-waisted person like me. the materials are extremely cute but i just can't do it. i love city fit and won't buy any other styles from jcrew. i wish the skirts fit lower too. and the suiting pants- they need to offer the wider leg in the city fit, the straight leg doesn't look as professional.

i don't like any of the new arrivals today! that dress and coat are sooooo unflattering. the look like shapeless sacks.

  9. Montrose, I just ordered the Simone Snow leapard coat...I love the shape of the jacket...I think that is what drew me to it...I don't like any of the other JCrew animal prints so far this fall...but then again this is my first animal print item...ever

  10. I saw most of these items on Friday. The Hayward coat is gorgeous in person. It might engulf a very small framed person, but my size 10 body loved it!Very vintage looking and would be great with long gloves. Audrey Dress is lovely, but I am not a sweater dress person. Silver Lining is right about the links on the Sean bag. They just ruined it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I am not really a fan of any of the new items. I agree with Jcrewjunkie on the Herringbone Hayward and Silver Lining on the Sean bag

    ReplyDelete
  12. Okay, I'm going to put some love out for the Hayward coat. It's kind of quirky but would work on a lot of body shapes (ie curvy and skinny girls could pull it off). It's also something that I think you could pull out for more than just this season. It has a pretty classic shape. Also, it would look great on J Crew's older customers.

Now, as for the Annette blouse... I had a teacher in 7th and 8th grade that pretty much dressed consistently from a 70s-based wardrobe. This would look perfect on her (and she probably has a bunch of blouses just like this). I am definitely leaving this one.

  13. melissa, I totally agree - I just cannot do Favorite Fit (and believe me, I've tried!), it is just not flattering on me at all. I think that the model that is wearing the Hayward coat - ugh, she just doesn't do anything for the clothes IMO. I liked the look of it better on that other model in the fall lookbook. (ha, I'm so picky!)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Haus_Frau - Glad to see someone agrees. The Hayward was gorgeous in person. I would have styled it for the catalog with a pencil skirt or suiting trousers to show it's vintage appeal. Totally reminds me of the fantastic coats that Doris Day would wear in her movies.

    ReplyDelete
  15. haus frau: ITA about the 70's vibe emanating from some of the blouses right now! While I think they're sort of pretty, I just can't get passed the fact that I remember when my mom first wore this stuff!

blumre: welcome back! I hope MMiller enjoyed his b'day! (happy belated btw)

I also wanted to mention that the simone had disappeared on-line and is showing up again. I saw this IRL this past weekend and it's not what I expected at all. The material has more of a felt look and feel to it, not the knit wool or cotton sweater jacket were used to seeing from the crew. Also, the fit was a lot more flattering than expected. IMO, On-line on the model it looks so unflattering and maternity-ish. But irl, it's a lot more chic and cocktail feeling.

Also, mentioned this in another thread: the Stephanie dress is now showing up at $128 on-line but was originally listed as $98 (has been $128 in the stores all along though). So frustrating when they RAISE the price rather than lowering it!

    ReplyDelete
  16. oh, forgot to mention that while the Simone was better than I expected, it's still NOT worth the $250 price tag that's attached to it!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I like the Hayward coat too. I wouldn't buy it however b/c of the sleeve length and price (mainly the price).

Also, just went through my grandmothers clothes with my mom and sister(she passed away a year ago) the Annette blouse is exactly like 5 blouses that she had that none of us chose to keep....it is just not a pretty style/design if you ask me with all the other pretty blouse choices in the world! And the price...crazy! I did keep my grandmothers lemon yellow embroidered shift dress that she wore to my uncle's wedding in 1967...it is timeless, classic and beautiful...

    ReplyDelete
  18. weab...are you talking about the Simone snow leopard coat disappearing...it never did for me...I have been looking at it online about 10 times a day (really) since it came out...

I just bought it for $68.88 with the 15% coupon and my rewards money and two gift cards that I got...what a deal!

  20. Annon @ 9:24, how does it fit? I'm pretty tall (5'10) with long(ish) arms and waist. I'm afraid it would be too short on my frame.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I really love the Hayward. As Jenn_Brak said, on a petite person it may not be so flattering, but I cant wait to get it.

The dress looks lovely but I think I need to see it in person to really tell.

The bag looks cheap and the blouse reminds me of some old teachers as well!

    ReplyDelete
  22. anon @9:24: No, I was talking about the Navy Simone Jacket (96784). It shows up in the "knits" section and now I know why. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. montrose, I will let you know when I get it but I got the measurements and compared it to my other JCrew jackets and I know it will be fine....I am 5'10" too:) with long arms...when I buy Talls in JCrew jackets they do not work on me b/c I DO NOT have a long torso...just long arms and legs.....

weab, Oh thank for letting me know...I like that simone too:) but I agree on the price being high for it:)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ok...I am going to have to go with the minority on the Hayward coat, as I really do like it alot! If it was priced like the Lucille I would actually consider purchasing now...it has a very *old Hollywood* vibe to it, which is VERY appealing to me. I love the neutral color, and it would look FABULOUS with a turtleneck and pencil skirt or flowy wide leg pants (like Katherine Hepburn always wore).

I really, really, really dislike the bag. I don't like the solid Annette blouse, but I do like the printed one, and the dress is a definite no for me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I like the purse...I would buy it if it went on SUPER SALE!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think the hayward coat started with a good idea, and I like the sleeves because of the opportunity to wear long gloves and show them off. However, it is too long - it should hit right at the waist, or an inch below. I also would have added discreet snaps to close the entire front. I'd love to try it on, though.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just looked at the Annette shirt - a definite "leave it" for me. I can't tell for certain, but based on the swiss-dot annette blouse, it looks like it's made of "lightweight" cotton, or as I call it, cheap cotton. I resent spending $78 on a shirt that also requires me to invest in a tank.

Jcrew did the same with a voile blouse I looked at this summer - it was completely transparent. Not at all what I'm looking for in shirts :-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Hayward Coat is already backordered until the 16th of this month...

    ReplyDelete
  29. haha, FFM, that means I'd order it, not hear for months from J.crew, and then one day find out my order had been cancelled. that's what happened last time I ordered something that was waitlised :-)

I'm guessing they put this jacket online before actually getting in the shipments. No way it sells out this quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have to say I am rethinking the leopard print Anette blouse because it is in the liberty fabric and i really like the liberty fabric. Plus I think a little leopard can be lots of fun!

    ReplyDelete
  31. la belle helene: That's exactly what I was thinking...they make it available online before it is actually ever *really* available, at all. I think it is more like taking orders for the jacket and then having them made based upon request for them...at that price they can't afford to make too many and have them not sell.

    ReplyDelete
  32. This is off subject but I have to share. Today I checked my mail for the first time all weekend. I got a letter from JCrew and inside was a new JCrew Card that was silver with JCrew in blue written across it.

Somehow, I am now a silver card holder. Its called a JCrew Preferred Credit Card.

The Perks: Which I don't feel are much different:

    - $25 for every 500 spent
    - Free alterations
    - Early notification of limited editions
    - Priority access phone line
    - Early arrival of monthly catalogs
    - Advanced notifications of largest sales of the year
    - My limit also WAY increased

I do not shop at the Crew every weekend but when I do.. I spend around 500.00. I typically use my card to get any alterations.. I suffer from short legs/long torso. Then I pay the card off like a day later and escape the interest charges. Did anyone else make this exclusive preferred list?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Blumre: I agree; I kind of like the leopard Annette, and I'm a sucker for almost anything leopard print. I also agree with whoever else that said it looks kinda cougar-ish as well. I don't care! I look like a child, I won't be mistaken for a cougar anyway.

I actually kind of like the Hayward Coat as well. But when Weab mentioned that it looked maternity-ish, it reminded me of those maternity clothes that people wore in the 50s and 60s. I just saw "Father's Little Dividend" on TCM the other night, which is the sequel to the original version of "Father of the Bride." Anyway, Elizabeth Taylor's character in that movie was supposed to be pregnant, and she wore these giant coats that looked much like the Hayward.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Daniel: I have that card, too, and I don't think there is any difference. A sham if you ask me!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love the colors on the dress, but I can't say that I'm a fan of the cut. I think they took a bateau top and just added extra fabric on the bottom!

I agree with silver_lining re. the Sean bag. I can't deal with what looks like plastic on a bag, even one that is relatively inexpensive (by crew standards!).

I'm kind of torn on the Hayward coat. My mom gave me a dark green silk jacket that looks exactly like the Hayward, minus the button. It looks absolutely gorgeous, but the fabric falls really differently. The price on the Hayward is pretty much out of reach for me, simply because I wouldn't want to pay that much for a "sometime-wear" coat. But if the cost went waaay down, I would think about it. Bearing in mind that the details are probably nice, I think I would still spring $250 if I had the cash lying around.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've no idea what looks cougar-ish or not, and not directed at all towards you Ashley, but I just hate the whole idea of belittling the 35-and-older crowd for wearing anything deemed remotely sexy. Couldn't we live and let live?

Anyway, regarding that now-not-available Hayward, that's too bad if it looks like maternity wear. The more I look at it, I'd sorely love to try it on. It appears too long to me on-line, but it might not be that difficult to have hemmed.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I ordered 2 sizes of the annette leopard print blouse this morning. as well as the black scoop neck to wear over it when it gets cooler.

Sizing seems odd though (hence the 2 sizes)- shoulder is small and the bust is large.

in shirts, i am normally a 2 or an xs. does anybody know how this baby fits?

    ReplyDelete
  38. OT-
I was just reminded that I had wanted to make this statement since I found your blog...
How many of you think one of THE WORST customer service aspects of J Crew is that you can order something, find it waitlisted and NEVER hear from them again. Of course, you do your own research and pick up the phone to call them only to hear them say I GUESS it was cancelled-out of stock! I have really been frustrated by the complete disregard for the customer and their order. I have never shopped ANYWHERE that I don't get an email updating me and that if it is sold out--at least they tell me! I don't have to go calling them saying, "Um, I am wondering where this item is..did you guys fall off the face of the earth or do you honestly not care about my order?" It is blatant disregard.
It's only happened to me a couple of times but I realize from reading on here how many others have had the same thing happen. I guess I should write to them instead of venting to you all:(

    ReplyDelete
  39. The Hayward coat was available on Friday at the 5th Avenue store. They had just received it Thursday and put on the floor.

There was another brand new beautiful piece that will be available online, but not yet. Very similar to the Jenna cashmere sweater from last year. Cardigan with the ties at the neck in the thicker cashmere.

Daniel - I agree with Ashley about the card.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Heh heh, anyone taken a chance on the washed-leather Claudette jacket? Yet another in the line of jackets that need opera-length gloves. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  41. la belle helene: Someone else had originally made the comment about the Leopard Annette looking cougarish, not me!

    ReplyDelete
  42. mic5,
I have had the experience you are describing happen to me so many times I think I have lost count...but I KNOW it has happened to me at least 5 times in the last 3 years.....which is really just annoying and makes me mad...like you said, I do a TON and I mean TON of online shopping and JCrew is the ONLY company that does not consitently notify its customers of cancelled orders.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i just bought this coat at gap:

    http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=6951&pid=419017

cutest thing i've seen there in a while, and sort of reminds me of the harlow. i'm sure not as nice but definitely a better price, and more flattering i think.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Re cougars, being among the over-35 set myself I'm certainly not going to mock anything for having a "cougar" look . . . but sometimes animal prints can have what I'd call a "Magda" (Something About Mary) look. And hey, my beloved J.Crew cheetah cardi from 2005 showed up on the slutty stepmother in "Veronica Mars"!

Re J.Crew card, I am ROTFLMAO at some of the claims they make--early catalogs? Early sale notices? Sorry, with the possible exception of the private sale, it is not happening. Free alterations don't help me as it is too hard to get to the store. Also, it's only basic alterations like hemming, not waist nipping or anything complicated like that.

    ReplyDelete
  45. OT - Does anyone know for sure if you can get the current 15% off full-price discount if you order from the red phone? There is a coat I want but they don't have the color I want in the store... trying to avoid shipping costs :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. this is a little OT, but has anyone else noticed that the sale section hasn't been updated in days? I'm guessing it's because of the holiday, but it's driving me nuts because there are still a few items I want from the summer (confetti bateau top, silk taffeta pop-on mini in green, the pearl double-strand flower necklace etc.) that just won't seem to go on sale!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with melissa about the fav fit. I can't wear it either. I have a short waist and flat bottom and the fav fit does nothing to help that!

I also do not like any of the new arrivals today. Good thing, my j crew card is just about at the max!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I also have the silver card and have not noticed any special perks. I am always the last to get my cat and what is this private sale your talking about? IMO the best J crew perk is the personal shoppers!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ashley, just to reiterate: My comment wasn't directed at you!

  51. I just have to add my 2 cents worth: The main and only reason I started shopping at JCrew in 2001 was the favorite fit pants. They are wonderful and I don't know what I would do without them....until I discovered them I had a horrible time buying pants from age 16--26....

    ReplyDelete
  52. Montrose - ITA that the leopard print is too small on the Annette. I'm disappointed in the print size.

jenn_brak, haus_frau & FFM - I also love the Hayward coat. I get what they were trying to do. I wonder what it looks like on. It seems like they should have cut it just a bit slimmer.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The city fit pants fit me the best, I have trouble with the favorite fit, I just don't feel comfortable in them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I made the original cougar comment and am in the cougar age group.
I do like animal prints but I find can look very cliched when it looks too "animal" which is my complaint with the blouse. I didn't mean to imply anyone was a cougar if they got it!
My concern is I would feel like I look like a cougar (or cougar in training) if I got it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. anon @ 12:06, I got FS and 15% off a full-priced order from the red phone last week.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I have to agree. I like the Fav fit pants. They fit me perfectly through the hips and thighs. The wide leg models are nice too; they are wide without being too wide or elephant shaped.

I like the low waist style of the City fit, but overall they are too narrow in the bum area and too wide in the waist. I always have to go up a size and have the waist taken in.

    ReplyDelete
  57. hi, i'm a newcomer to this blog and i think it's great! quick question for all the j crew experts on here: i wanted to buy a couple of pairs of shoes that are on final sale...but i don't know what size to get and am paranoid about the fact that i can't return them if they don't fit.

i usually wear either a 9.5 or a 10 depending on the shoe.

i tried on ballet flats in a store yesterday and the 10's were tight (yikes!). but i tried on the peep toe patent leather mary janes in 9.5 and they fit fine. so now i'm really confused.

the two styles i like online/onsale are the jeweled posy patent leather flats and alessandra peep toe patent leather flats. does anyone have any advice about whether these styles run big/small/true to size?

    thanks!!
anyone have any info about whet

    ReplyDelete
  58. Speaking of the Favorite Fit, supposedly the FF Chinos were just updated. Does anyone know anything re the new fit?

Another OT question: If I am tall, have a 26-27" high waist, longer torso, and 38" hips, will matchstick jeans work on me? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anon @ 2:59 PM: I just purchased a pair of fav fit chinos two weekends ago. If these are the ones you are referring to, i thought they fit me well. Only thing is i had to size down in the them. That's a first for me at J. Crew.

As for matchsticks, i think they look good if one has long legs and smaller hips. On me, they would look not so good. :)

  62. Wow, some more new items, it seems J.Crew is possibly more organized with their site recently.

I'm waiting on a few things to arrive, the vest in the photo next to me, a scarf in washed wool, chinos in dark khaki and 5 pocket cords in tobacco.

I am pleased to see the shetland sweaters showed up on line. Last month Details featured a section on camel coloured clothing and so now I'm thinking about the crewneck in camel.

Okay who am I kidding, we all know it's only a matter of a few days to a week or so till I order it. But it will look great with charcoal pants and navy.

    ReplyDelete
  63. ha jcrewguy! am laughing out loud about the "who am I kidding" line. I was supposed to be on a j. crew fast as of August 23rd, and have since placed two very large internet orders, as well as gone to the store and made a purchase.

Thank goodness we all have each other on this blog! At least we can all sympathize with our collective lack of willpower!

    ReplyDelete
  64. kater: I am glad that I am not the only one who broke ny JC fast, mine lasted 10 days until this morning, and you know what-- they screwed up the order on me again (6x since Aug 1)

    ReplyDelete
  65. casual-crew: your fast lasted much longer than mine did! I only made it 4 days. It's pathetic...:)

I'm sorry to hear your order got messed up again though. I'm traveling and haven't been home to see if what they say has shipped has actually arrived. It's like gambling - you just never know what you'll get!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I am proud to say I have not broke my jcrew fast yet... Being away for the weekend not near a computer or a Jcrew helped a lot. I did go up the outlet but saw nothing of even remote interest to me, everything felt like it was made of really poor quality. It also helps a lot that there are no new sale items and I don't need any more clothes for a while! :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Alexis, I don't think you've blogged on this before so I'll leave a comment here. I have been emailing J.Crew from my .edu email to get the discount on web orders for a few months now. Until this last order, all my credits for the discount were placed back onto my J.Crew card. This last order, it was issued as a "gift card" that I am supposed to be getting in the mail within the next week. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I'm kind of disappointed because while I do buy from J.Crew regularly (too regularly!) I feel like getting a gift card makes it less of a "discount" because I have to spend more to get my money back. I wish I could just purchase in the store but when the store doesn't carry my size in anything ever, that's hard to do!

    ReplyDelete
  68. jenn_brak: did you ever get your bristol sweater??

    ReplyDelete
  69. the favorite fit everyday chinos are beautiful. I tried them on, and the fabric is gorgeous and very drapey. They're cut large, though. I had to go a size down and they were still generous. If you're a real size 0 you're out of luck on these puppies.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Daniel: Thanks for letting us know about the J.Crew Preferred Credit Card. I will make it into a post for tomorrow! :)

Mic5: I totally know what you mean about JCrew canceling items with out any notification. They did that before the website upgrade too. I never understood (and was a bit bothered in) why they didn't send an email to let the person know.

Anon at 12:08 PM: You should be able to get the 15% off regular price items over the red phone if you just mention to them the code. :)

Kater: I have noticed the sale section being the same for days too. I can't wait for an update on new sale items. :)

The Blograkers: Welcome- we love to hear from new Aficionadas!!! :) Also, I find that I am normally a size 9 in flats and heels. But any peep toes or d'Orsay shoes, I am a size 8.5, and sandals I am a size 8. I know its weird on J.Crew's part.

JCrew Guy In Canada: Too funny with the "we all know it's only a matter of a few days to a week or so till I order it" line. Because it is so true for me!!! :)

five tomatoes: I find it weird they would give you a refund in a gift card form. But I have read that a few other Aficionadas got refunds in gift cards as well. I think it should go back to your credit card. I don't know why JCrew issues gift card credit.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I apologize for being off topic but I have a question. Before the whole website upgrade I used to shop the jcrew sale section early in the morning. I haven't bought anything from them since the upgrade but I have a rewards card that's about to expire so I have to buy something. Is there a time or day on which there's a greater selection? Thanks in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don't like the annette blouse either. It has a dated feel to me. I do like the Hayward coat, but for a lot less. For those in a warmer climate, this might work. That said, this is probably something that you would have to try on to decide about, at least I would.

    ReplyDelete
  73. anna, I think that the general consensus here is that it's about 9:30 am EST when more items show up in the sale section, but it hasn't been as obvious as the old 6:45 am update.

  74. La Belle Helene: I think the same thing about the hayward coat! It reminds me of my twinkle tweed dress. :)

  76. I love the favorite fit pants, especially the herringbone academy in sweet potato. My problem is that they don't come in short, and I the petite don't fit me right. I know I could get them hemmed, but I also know me - and that's that I won't. I have several things that need to go to a tailor, but I just can't seem to make my way there. :)

  77. A long time lucker that loves this blog. I want to order the Quincy Top (item 94162) but since its final sale (and I never tried it on in A B&M) wanted to know if anyone has ordered this top? Is it true to size? Or did you have to size down? Thanks!

  78. anon @ 2:59: I have several pair of favorite fit chinos and I tried on a new pair to see if there was a difference. The new ones are much wider through the whole leg. I like a wide leg pant, so I liked them, but others that have tried them on didn't like them. I tried on the same size I've always bought and didn't have a problem, but I didn't try on a smaller size to see if they fit better.

  79. Math Teacher, any comments on how the Sweet Potato herringbone looks in person? I'm considering the Astrid suit but am uncertain about the color and I don't think I'll be able to see it in person any time soon.

  80. Hexicon, I checked this out for you at the B&M on Sun. It's a very sophisticated fabric and does not read ORANGE at all. Really nice. I did a polyvore set in your honor too. It features Hillary Clinton and the sweet potato herringbone pieces :-)

Now the sweet potato ecole is an entirely different story. It was very very bright with a lot of yellow. The suiting pieces have more red.

  81. I also did a Polyvore of the Hayward and Harlow just to experiment. I want to try it on now!

  82. hex - The sweet potato herringbone pants are divine in person. I really like them. I thought of you when I saw them the other day -- the deal about getting an orange suit. I am a petite and s/have tried on the regular size just to see but I saw them on the way out the door.

math teacher - Please comment about the petite fit of the sweet potato herringbone. What was off? Also -- do either of you think these will go on sale in petite, or should I suck it up and get them now?

  83. Molly-- I tried that BR necklace on Thur(!), went back on Sunday and they were all gone. I am kicking myself. It's beautiful. The bubble necklace (92687) from J Crew is flat in black and boring by comparison. I tried that on and it wasn't a fit for me. Nice Polyvore set.

  84. Hexicon,
I know your question wasn't directed to me, but I was at a store this weekend and actually was really impressed by the herringbone fionas - especially the sweet potato one! I thought it was a very pretty, subdued color.

    ReplyDelete
  85. hexicon: I agree with Molly and Gigiofca in that they are a lovely color. Not orange - more muted.

gigiofca: I didn't try these on in petite, as I don't think they carry petite in the stores. I have tried other favorite fit pants in petite, and the rise is too short. I have short legs, but not a short rise. Does that make sense? The regulars are just more comfy, but a regular leg is WAY too long!

  86. math teacher -- Yes, I understand your fit challenge. And I feel you on not want to pay or spend time getting everything altered.

  87. Anon @ 5:22,

I have the Quincy top and love, love it. I thought it ran a bit big, as I had to alter the straps, but overall, it's really lovely and I highly recommend it! Out of everthing I've bought this summer, this is my favorite!

  88. Thanks for the comments.

I am a fair skinned brunette (a winter, for those who remember CMB, which means technically I'm not allowed orange at all!). I think that I could do a tomato but if it's browner or peachier (like the Fiona) I think I'm getting into redhead territory.

Are the sweet potato herringbone pants the same color as the Astrid jacket, or are they like the Fiona Ecole?

  89. Jcrewdude: I just received the washed wool scarf today. It is quite a bit lighter than expected and due to the washing and wrinkled effect not as long as you would think.

It feels like a crinkled cotton. It will be soft around the neck. The fabric reminds me of the type of scarf women wear in the summer. I've seen men wearing them in photos and in magazines, but no one I know would wear it outside of a cool day.

I'm with you on the chinos and duffle coat. So many of the duffle coats make me look like Paddinton Bear. I have a university coat from two years ago and it's a great fit.

  90. Paddington Bear was a great, great love of mine as a child, and remains a sentimental one to this day :-) I take great pleasure when I'm in London to make sure to go through Paddington Station at some point.

I agree with the gentleman, however, that it is not a look all that desirable for a man.

  91. hexicon: neither of the jackets in that color were in my b&m, so I can't help you with a color comparison. All I can say is I love the color, as it is very muted and understated. It has a brownish cast to it, which makes it a little more of a neutral orange - if that makes any sense.

  92. Hexicon,
I haven't seen the astrid suit, but since it's herringbone, as is the fiona I saw, I would guess it's the same color. I can't imagine it not looking good on a fair-skinned brunette. I thought it was such a pretty color, I decided I'd like to get something in it (once it goes on sale, probably). Can't really justify paying full price for the fiona since I splurged on three Bellas last fall :-)

I am so ready to flirt with wearing fall clothes, but it's 90 degrees here today :-(

  93. Ok, so I finally found the time to go over what I purchased in the Charleston store last weekend. I absolutely love everything I purchased and don't know what I would do without my ps Billy! I purchased items that could make multiple outfits and coordinate with what I have sitting in my closet. By the way I have some sets posted on polyvore under the name yeahmarye with some of these items. And, sorry it took me so long to post, but here it goes:
    1. Double-Serge Pencil Skirt
    (black) 96477
    2. Boatneck City Tee
    (black) 96955
    3. Jewel-Button Cardigan
    (silver camel) 97202
    4. Wood-Acorn Charm Bracelet
    (dark maple) 98342
    5. Perfect-Fit L/S Crewneck Tee
    (champagne) 97705
    6. Printed Umbrella
    (warm ivory 90208
    7. Denim Straight Skirt
    (clean rinse) 94851
    8. Sequined Chiffon-Ruffle
    Cardigan(navy) 97832
    9. Lydia Solid Blouse
    (navy) 97751
    10. Seize The Day Graphic Tee
    (ivory) not shown online

Sorry about the length but there you go! For the Lydia Solid Blouse you'll need to size down. Its very flattering on and looks great tucked in or out! I am in love with this top and boy if I could look good in every color it comes in, I sure would own them all! I also lovelove the "Seize the Day Graphic Tee" I got in the store! Its such a perfect tee for those who are set out to take on the school/work day! Again, Alexis I don't know how you manage to keep up.. I absolutely adore you for all that you do!

  94. mary ellen: I love Billy, too! Isn't he the best? He wasn't working when I was in there yesterday and I was so disappointed - although the woman that helped me was super nice, too. He talked me into buying the denim pencil skirt, which by the way, I didn't see yesterday. I also didn't see the sequin chiffon ruffle cardigan. I would have tried it on, although I would wait for a sale. I also love the lydia, but my sister didn't like it on me. Oh, well, can't win them all! :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. math teacher: He most definitely is! Billy knows how overwhelmed I can get when I first walk through the door. Being from Florence, I only make it to the Charleston J. Crew maybe 1-2 times a month (if I'm lucky) so whenever I do go I feel like I have to take advantage of the trip. So I end up looking at everything more than once and over and over again. I don't ever want to feel like I've missed something. Its very hard for me to stay in there less than 2 hours at a time. So, he helps keep me straight so I don't go crazy. About the denim pencil skirt, I already have 2 other J.Crew jean pencil skirts but somehow Billy said get it and I did. Same thing with the cardigan, as soon as I saw it on the mannequin I fell in love with it! He said he expected them to go rather quickly.. I'm guessing they did. Its a great cardigan, a little pricey for me of course but none the less.. it was worth every penny! It goes well with so many outfits: dressy or even dressy/casual! For the Lydia Blouse, I felt it looked better on me than the Elizabeth Halter so I bought in one of my better colors, navy. I guess that's what sisters are for, huh? I have 3 and boy do they ever have some things to say about what I buy. Your most definitely right about that!

  96. math teacher: Sorry its so long. I don't know why I can't ever seem to write anything for my english class but yet I can write a book on here.

    ReplyDelete
  97. mary ellen: Don't apologize for the long posts. I'm working on my masters right now, and find it much easier to write here than for my assignments! I have to read and post on library blogs as well, and I'm sure posting here will be MUCH easier. So, if you come from Florence, do you call to make sure Billy is working first? He told me that the denim pencils were going quickly, so I went for it. Even with the 15%, it was still a lot for me. That said, I have the floral belle on hold for me and that costs more! :) And, you're right about sisters - mine always tells me exactly what she's thinking! I told her I felt so stylish in the lydia with the jackie over it and matchstick cords, but she shot me right down! So, I'll look for a similar cut to a blouse, but that's more open. I have a larger chest, so I almost have to wear a v or scoop neck, and the lydia unbuttoned is too much for school (especialy high school). :P

Now I'm the one with the long post!

  98. KatherineD - Yes - I received my Bristol today. It is gorgeous and the small fits perfectly. Also received last year's version of the Bateau cashmere in regal purple. So happy, I loved the little buttons on the back and they left them off this year's version. Also received that crazy green and yellow necklace that came onto the sale section last week. It was a gamble, but one that paid off, really cute. Like having the ladybug and the bee in one necklace.
Thank you for your help. I would not have the sweater without you!

  99. I'm real upset right now. i was short shipped the denim pencil skirt, yet charged for it. I called and the CS was like, yes, you were short shipped, and it will go out tomorrow. Otherwise there was no notification. I hope I am not double charged. She offered me 15% off my next purchase since she could not overnight it. She was unable to provide a tracking number.

Anthro at least notifies you about status of backorder items and things that are canceled in a timely fashion. J.Crew could take a cue from them.

    ReplyDelete
  100. jenn_brak: Yay! I'm so happy that it finally came! This also gives me hope that the "last season" items I ordered will come - hopefully! The status still says "open" so we'll see.

  101. math teacher: sorry to barge in on your convo but I wanted to suggest another "lydia-like" blouse that may work better for you. I wanted to love the lydia but really felt like a clown in it. (just me, I know that many others love it and look amazing in it). Anyway, I found this blouse at BR and love it! It's more drapey and has the v/scoop neck you're looking for. The also have it in solid colors, teal and orange on-line and some stores still have it in white. I think they're going pretty fast so the options are slimming down a bit. Hope this helps!

  102. The Hayward coat would be perfect if it had long sleeves...totally impractical and "cold" looking to me....even with long gloves I would be cold!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Does anyone know if they're bringing back the sparkle tweed pants from last year? I didn't get a pair during the sale :( :( :(

    ReplyDelete
  104. weab: thanks for the BR blouse. I love it! And, you're right, it's a good shape. I can't buy it right now, since I'm splurging on the paintbrush belle, but maybe at the end of the month - if they still have some left in my size!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Blograkers: The alessandra peeptoe runs a little big for me. I have to do size 7 on that, and 7.5 on the peeptoe mary jane heels. When in doubt, talk to the CSR and tell them your dilema. They can sometimes mark it as returnable.

The sweet potato fiona fabric is not the same as the herringbone pants, skirt and astrid set. Those three has the same fabric and it's more like a reddish tomato than orange. The fabric is also less scratchy. I am too petite to look good with the pants, but the skirt fits well. When the jacket goes on sale I may be tempted to get that also.
