Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Well, they changed the promo again. Now their is an extra 30% off sale and 25% off certain "perfect for layering" styles.

  5. Like a lot of JCAs I am trying to buy more thoughtfully. What do people think about the topic of buying duplicates. By this, I don't mean the same style in different colors. I mean buying the exact same item (same color) you already have because you find it again at a price that's hard to resist. Concrete example - the Laila wedge sandals. With certain promotions, over the last few months I could pick them up for $30 - $40 Cdn. The regular (inflated) price ranged from $187 to $200 Cdn (depending on material). I have to admit that I did end up two pairs in the same color because I ended up paying less than $70 for two pairs (and I'm not going to even talk about the other non duplicative colors I have in this style). I can't decide If was a sensible action or ridiculous action on my part. Any thoughts or words of advice?

    1. If you love them...keep them. i find J Crew shoes typically do not last that long (reg wear) so back up pair if you know you will be wearing them...alot.

      Delete
    2. I'm a huge colour-duplicate buyer, a major weakness of mine, but I never go for exact duplicates. I have so many clothes, it's rare for me to actually wear something out, so I know the chances of me needing the duplicate as a back-up at some point are pretty slim.

      Delete
    3. When you find a style that works for you, then I don't see an issue with having a back up. I know other folks use that approach, and as long as it's something you're going to actually wear, then it's sensible. Another option on shoes is to use a shoe cobbler to make repairs; he's often able to make my shoes look almost brand new. I'd also recommend having a really good tailor to help with repairs, etc of beloved items. Both are must haves IMO.

      Delete
    4. Hi Toronto Modern, I have been guilty of doing this and I have to say I have really liked having my new "back-up" once my original fell apart. Hope that helps :)

      Delete
    5. Look, if there are particular colors or fits that you love, or if a piece is key to completing outfit(s) that you love, by all means have backups! The danger is not in buying backups, it's in the illusion that buying a backup isn't really shopping so you should also buy ... .

      Delete
    6. I've done this with colors and sometimes regretted it but usually not. Never thought to buy the same item as backup, but like shopgrrl, I rotate my clothes so much that I haven't worn anything out! That said, I have bought a few pairs of shoes that I know were being discontinued and on super sale. They do get regular wear and don't hold up great. -lep33shops

      Delete
    7. I bought two backups of the silver glitter Gemmas and a backup of the striped ones from summer. I've worn out the original pair of silver glitter, and the second pair is starting to fray a bit. Trying to keep third pair in reserve! I wear them constantly and they fit beautifully and am glad to have gotten backups on sale.

      Delete
    8. I did this (exact duplicates) a few times and concluded finally that I didn't need to. J. Crew shoes aren't really my go-to everyday shoes, though, so I don't tend to wear them out.

I've also regretted buying the same thing in multiple colors, because then the thing feels less special to me, so I don't do that any more either.

      Delete
    9. For super special items that I really love, I'll buy back ups. Mostly shoes for me as I mostly wear pointy toed flats and there are times when that style isn't on trend and they are hard to find. Right now my only back ups are these gorgeous Oxford shoes from the gap (floral, stripes, and polka dots). They are soooooo old but I still love them and can't bear to bring the back ups out yet. That was a great purchase!

      Delete
    10. I bought back ups of the original Ceces and that was a great decision for me because the "new" version is completely inferior. These are my commuter shoes and I was so happy to have replacements. Shoes that get hard wear seem like a great candidate for back ups. I have to say, though, that the Factory Anya is fabulous quality and a fine replacement these days.

      Delete
    11. I bought multiple pairs of original Ceces too and now regret it because a) Styles change, and I now prefer pointed toe flats, and b) They brought them back, so stocking up was not necessary (J. Crew re-issues are sometimes inferior, but do happen), and c) I haven't worn through all of my original pairs

      Delete
    12. I constantly buy multiples of the exact same items. My family thinks that I'm neurotic but I know better. For instance, I wear my collection silk lace camis constantly and they're incredibly delicate. I've been through two out of three of my pink ones and one out of two of the green. The first navy boy shirt in silk crepe de chine that I bought deteriorated rapidly after I wore it under fitted sweaters. I then proceeded to buy two more after stalking popbacks. And it goes on... I regret nothing.

      Delete
    13. I just remembered something else I bought exact duplicates of, that I don't regret: Black Cafe Capri pants. Those are still my go-to pants after all these years. They always fit me right and they never look dated.

      Delete
    14. Cate, I WISH I had bought multiples of the Cafe Capri. Best fitting Capri for me EVER.

      Delete
    15. Ruffles, do they ever turn up on eBay or Poshmark or somewhere like that? I also bought multiples of the (original?) Minnies, which has turned out to be unnecessary because I don't wear those very much.

      Delete
    16. Cate, I haven't had much luck on eBay. I do treat the pairs I have like precious snowflakes. I will cry when the knees go on my remaining two black pairs!

      Delete
  6. I'm hoping some JCAs can help...I'm dying for the short sleeve chambray shirt dress from last summer (item F3770). I was pregnant last summer and didn't buy it...huge regret! I'm usually a L in similar items, as I'm tall and broad but not busty/curvy. I've been able to find it in an XL on resale.

Is there any chance this would work, or did JCAs find it to run large?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @maggie it's still available albeit in smaller sizes. if you check the reviews on JC's website you can see that it runs large.

      Delete
    2. It runs large, don't size up. I bet you can find a pop back in large or one on ebay if you're persistent.

      Delete
    3. I found this dress to run large. I'm normally a 12 in JCrew dresses, 5'9, not busty, and I liked the fit of the medium.

      Delete
    4. Thank you everyone for your input! Sounds like I'll be praying (and checking!) for a popback :)

      Delete
    5. I tried this one on a few months ago in my regular size and found it runs large as well (as in so large not even a belt could salvage the look)

      Delete
    6. Maggie, I have this dress in a Large and would be willing to sell it. It's tucked away for the winter - I only wore it a few times this past summer and have recently lost some weight so it will likely make its way in to the eBay pile. Shoot me an email at fablifeforever@gmail.com if you're interested.

  7. I've had my eye on the Drake pants in BiP print for awhile, and it's popped back. Now I can't remember what's the best price we've seen for it in the many many many months it's been hanging around. Does anyone recall??
Also, has anyone had experience washing them? I have the Piamata monkey print pj pants from a few seasons ago that I loved, but after two washes the color has completely faded. Will these do the same? TIA!!

  11. I stopped by my store to make some returns and they gave me a 15% off coupon to use in store which was nice. They were running the same promo in store with the layers as online. I was looking at the Scalloped Chambray Mini but there seemed to be lots of little pulls on the chambray. Maybe it was by design but it bugged me. For those JCAs that were interested in losing the bell sleeves on the eyelet dress, it looks like you can pick the stitches out and the bell part would come off. The first brave volunteer should please report back :-)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Terilynn13 i think it would not be hard to take the bell sleeves off,as there is a seam where it starts.

      Delete
    2. The next dress promo I may bite since they don't always have shift dresses I like. The polka dot dress also seemed to have the bell part at the seam which could be removed.

    1. There is 20% off the whole store and that includes sale itemize.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, it's all a bit confusing. I went to my local store just now (Columbus Circle, NYC) to return items and the only signs they had up were for '20% off for students and educators'. (I know sales vary among stores.) The Sale section just said 'Sale', but no specifics like before. I know they price-match online, but there was nothing I wanted anyway.

      Delete
    3. I went to my store to try on the eyelet shift dress (loved it, including the sleeves which I thought I wouldn't) and there was no promo other than the 20% student/educator. Sale was as marked - I asked.

      Delete
    4. Same here, no %off sale, only 20% teacher discount and 25% off sweaters. I'm a teacher, but this was not very tempting.

      Delete
  13. I stopped in and tried a few things but didn't buy anything. They were matching the 30% off online. My store is doing a "paint" event in a few weeks where you can bring an item in and create your own splatter print item. They had a few of the splatter pieces out as display for the event.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Quick run through the Vancouver Robson Store Friday am. NO percentage off sale despite the fact online is offering 30%. There was a big green sign offering 20% off for students and educators. Sadly no help for me.
I know in store will price match the online sale % offer, but I dislike these pricing mind games and lack of transparency. I feel embarassed having to produce screen shots to SAs to show the online offer to match or negotiating at the check out. (Even though the Vancouver SA's are generally very chill and obliging about the request). But I do not want to feel ripped off by paying the store price for final sale, then getting home and finding the online discount reduced the item further. Sorry - this has turned in a vent.

Lots of stripe Jackie cardigans (appropriately priced? at 79.99, without the extra 30% off). Sammies in olive and maroon on a table marked down to $29.99 along with the plain merino/cotton V necks $57.99. Pile of Pixie pants in 2 styles, lots of the flat hard sole sandal/slides with navy, plastic tortoise or gold straps now $39.99. Otherwise one wall of the same items which have been there for a number of weeks. No re-stickering of prices going on to shift inventory out.

  15. Not a visit comment but a rant or possibly a concern.

One of my 'many' orders (being honest here) was sent to a woman in Toronto, Ontario (I live on the other side of Canada, no where near Toronto) and today I received a pair of women's collection leather pants size 00 and inside was her shipping address in NJ.

What's going on here J.Crew? Or is this a Borderfree issue?

    1. Forgot to mention my Borderfree tracking info indicated that the t-shirt was delivered today and to my address. WTF Borderfree?

      Delete
    2. Oy! What a mess. They should comp you free shipping and a 30% for that inconvenience.

      Delete
    3. That happened to me (I'm also in Toronto) and I got a big package in the mail with my name on it with somebody else's order. They had to reship my order and they told me to just send the other package back.... no comp. I think it's a borderfree issue

  16. My store (short Hills) didn't show 20% off except for educators and those signs were featured prominently. Sale section was same old, same old. Nothing I was interested in trying.

Madewell had 15% off for insiders and 20 % off sale (stacked that way) and not too much as far as sale goes but boots were marked down significantly, tried another pair of ankle boots I noticed online. (Returned others I tried last week.)

  17. The eyelet shift dress is going back. It's nice quality, but the bell sleeves are too much on me and the dress is shorter than I want to wear (and I'm only 5'4"). It's not obscenely short, but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing anything but standing in it. I'm going to have to get my eyelet fix from something else!

    1. Just checked. Nordstrom carries it in regular and petite. J. Crew's web site has talls too. I don't think I like it enough to re-order it though. I have the black flutter sleeve dress from last year and it is similar enough. I'm also not sure if the sleeves would be too long for me in a tall.

  21. My Factory order from the new arrived - I'm very happy with everything. Will post more details later but I'm loving the SCHOOLBOY BLAZER IN LINEN-COTTON in FRENCH BLUE and GINGHAM SCHOOLBOY BLAZER in PINK. I found the gingham to be just a touch large. If I had been in store, I would have tried another of the same size or one size down. The LINEN-COTTON in FRENCH BLUE was a perfect fit in my usual size. Beautiful color and nice fabric: 55% linen and 45% cotton, nice tortoise buttons.
Also got the POLKA-DOT TEDDIE SWEATER - the dots are embroidered on the front only (no dots on the back). The sweater is lightweight and will be great for spring/summer or for under blazers.
