Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Happy Friday, JCA's! Still waiting on orders from 11/24 and later to ship?

    1. YEP. Only one of my items out of two orders (each with four+ items in them) has shipped & they were a pair of clearance pants I purchased on Tuesday. Not a single thing from the order I placed on 11/24 has shipped. :/

    2. I just got the shipping confirm for a JC order placed 11/22. Hope your items ship soon!

    3. @cobalt, thanks for that info, it's reassuring to me because I'm waiting on an order I placed on 11/23. (I'm actually not worried the items sold out since they're still available in New Arrivals and Clearance.) It seems that orders placed around that time are taking the longest. I also have an order from 11/24, with two items of the 8 ordered, showing as shipped. I'm sure they got hit very hard!

    4. Same here. Two orders from 11/24 and 11/26. Crickets.

    5. Just got the shipping notice for my 11/23, so that's good! ☺️

    6. Stopped by my B&M and there was a stack of about 20 brown envelope packages behind the counter while 2 SA's worked on online order fulfillment. I think they said they were working on orders from Black Friday.

    7. Everything has shipped from 40% off so now waiting on final 3 packages to arrive (that whole splitting orders into multiple shipments). No store visit since I was able to order jade sequin earrings & silver sequin skirt online. Have a couple of holiday events so hopefully they will ship.

      Delete
    8. I have UPS notifications of two shipments coming from 11/24 and on, but nothing under my account has been updated so I have no idea what's coming. One order is still showing as released.

      Delete
    9. Update: Only two items out of my one order have shipped & that was from the last one I placed, last week. Still showing "released" for the 11/24 order. What the heck, J Crew?

      Delete
    10. Update here, too: my 11/24 order shipped on 12/2 (Friday). UPS.com says it's scheduled for "early delivery" today, but it was last scanned in Lynchburg (I'm in upstate NY). I don't think I'll be seeing it today.

No activity on the orders from 11/26 and 11/28 - still hanging out in open or released status.

    11. My package is still sitting in New Jersey, according to Narvar. By now I've forgotten what I ordered.

  2. Hi ladies, I noticed there are a few new arrivals online. For those waiting for holiday tees, I did see one reindeer tee. The plaid blanket (or one similar to the style guide cover) is online now or at least I hadn't noticed it before. :)

  4. Under PREORDER there is a Lady Tweed Jacket polka dot that is so cute! I want to try it...Must be an early spring item.

    1. Oops. It looks like it's already under new arrivals...

    2. I tried the cropped lady jacket with gold buttons and i thougt the quality was really nice

      Delete
    3. The black color? I liked that one too. For me its a good alternative to the Lady coat in black (that probably won't fit me due to the sleeves) with the braid trim because the jacket feels like it's made for a petite. Now I'm torn between the black, the polka dot and the sequin tweed I just reviewed.

      Delete
    4. two new prints ...the Penny top. Is it just me or is this top as bad as it looks. Just my opinon. hope some people do like it....i def. amd not a fan. especially in Dec!

      Delete
    5. I loved the black lady jacket but the neckline looks very low and like a jacket they did a few years ago it really hit me wrong and nothing worked well under it. The polka dot one has a much higher neckline. I love that and want that for spring. Hoping it will go on sale at some point. I love the plaid jacket but it runs small and is very short. I sized up two sizes. But it is lovely. The Lady Coat is also lovely. I have worn it numerous times already.

      Delete
    6. So I've decided to return the Lady jacket in sequin. While the jacket is pretty and substantial, to me it feels like the jacket took acid and is on a high energy trip..haha! Too much going on--the pockets, fringe trim, and sequins. I think the black lady jacket w/ gold buttons will get more wear. Hoping it's at my store, and hoping it gets the 30% off because it's excluded online, and waitlisted.

      Delete
    7. I received the collection french tweed jacket (F1590) in pink this past week, which looks like a similar cut. I wasn't positive I would keep it as I am not really a blazer/jacket person -- I lean casual, towards cardigans and fatigue jackets and coats -- but it is so darn cute, well made, and different in a good way, always a plus. I'm in my upper 40s and thinking I will learn to dress more polished and "my age" (ha), and this would fit the bill. I'd say it runs small; I nearly always wear size 2 in JC coats, and size 4 in the few JC blazers I have, and this one I ordered in a 6 on a pop back and it is not one tiny bit large. Definitely recommend if the style suits you.

      Delete
    8. I totally agree with sega on the Lady Jacket. The neckline is really low, I don't know why they did that. The Lady Coat has the right neckline and looks great with everything. I like the Lady Jacket in the silver tweed but the zipper ruined it IMO.

  6. Yes, I have to go to the store to return a disaster of a sweatshirt I bought yesterday. The sweatshirt is not online yet but I noticed it as I was headed to the register to pay. Thought it was cute, was on promo and what the heck, I'll try it on at home. It's dark gray with navy velvet dots all over it. Total fail on me. I bought my usual size XS and it.is.huge. The sleeves are also wide and floppy. So disappointed.

  7. Saw something online and later it disappeared? It was the matching top to the Taffeta skirt in neon buffalo check, which seems kind of springish?

  8. Is the Marled Cable Crewneck (cotton) sweater new (F8621)?
Is it the same one as last year's? I seem to recall something similar.

  9. I'll be making returns on items I bought on 11/23. Does anyone know what the in-store sale % discount is this weekend? Also was thinking of stopping by the J.Crew/Madewell sample sale in NYC while I'm out - anyone been and anything good?

  10. Posted a review of the mini skirt in double serge wool on my IG as well as a few other pics, thoughts. @wearthislikethis

From Madewell I ordered the central long-sleeve shirt in tartan plaid. Ema (@crazyaboutjcrew) mentionedit a few days ago and it's a little different than your basic button down so I think it will be a nice addition to myplaid collection.

I'm still waiting for a bunch of orders from last week.

    1. For those not on IG, I got my usual 00 skirt and although it's adorable, it's super short. With flats it's ok but with heels I'd need to wear opaque tights. I don't love wearing tights so it's a return for me.

    2. I liked your review of the Oxford Check Coat. I bought the Tall 10 and I'm 50% satisfied. I'd like to try the Tall 8 but I'm not sure about my luck in finding a tall 8. All of the tall sizes have been sold out for awhile. It's a bit big in the shoulder but rather wide in the mid section. I can deal with the somewhat rough feeling of the wool but the mid section really bothers me. I luv the look of the coat so much though.

    3. I know what you mean. The 2 felt tight, the 4 is huge. I had wanted a 2 tall. Might try a regular 2 again.

  13. Stopped in at Madewell while killing time at the mall (where I picked up Popeye's for my kids -- after school friday snack! I am a little bit of a health freak but a little less so every year since having kids, and this year, my new discovery was Popeye's. 8. J Crew....bankruptcy? no way.

      Delete
    9. Bankruptcy is something which has crossed my mind. I'm not a financial analyst, but they've reported declining numbers every quarter for what seems like several years. And I know personally the number of things I want to buy has continued to decrease. 10 years ago I could devote a Friday evening (and a few glasses of wine) to scouring their fall catalog, and dog-earring the pages of all the items I loved.
Not so much anymore. Sometimes I wonder if it's me - I'm older and have more disposable income. If I want burn $300 on a new outfit, I am blessed to be able to do that. So maybe part of my disenchantment is that it's less aspirational for me now.
Anyhow, this fear of bankruptcy (whether rational or not) has led me to quietly amass an arsenal of Pencil Skirts. Some new, some oldies from eBay. This is the one item, specifically, which I have never been able to find a suitable replacement for from an alternate retailer. My husband rolls his eyes.....but the fear is real!

With Chinos’ PIK toggle notes set to mature on May 1, 2019, there is limited time for the company to meaningfully improve profitability and de-leverage towards a sustainable capital structure.” I wouldn't call that impending bankruptcy.

    21. @sarah - The bonds maturing in May 2019 lost 60% value this year and Moody's downgraded their credit rating for J.Crew from stable to negative in September.
It does appear that J.Crew is headed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which hopefully means they will restructure and come back strong again. I know most of us are rooting hard for them!

      Delete
    22. AudreyS, I didn't see whatever comments you deleted, but I can't imagine it was anything you need to sign off over. I enjoy the comments about J.Crew's business side as much as I enjoy the threads about fit/colour/style. We're all armchair quarterbacks with regard to the direction they need to go, much like fans of sports teams always have ideas on the team management and starting lineups.

    23. Me too AudreyS I've always enjoyed your comments over the years, please don't sign off. I think we're all interested in the business side of things and I was going to check the recent posts here to see if there was any mention of this issue. I read an article in the Globe and Mail recently, business section 11/17/2016, which stated that J. Crew Group "has started to separate its thriving Madewell brand from the parent group. Battling sliding sales at its core J.Crew brand and a weighty debt burden, the company is working with investment bank Lazard Ltd. to assess multiple strategic and balance sheet options..."
I thought that the separation of Madewell from J.Crew was not a very good sign.
And of course I'm rooting for the company as usual, as I know we all are.

  15. All my purchases from the 40% off sale arrived and I'll be making some returns. The keepers are the cable crewneck in heather powder (love the pink! Works well for winter and spring), the men's cashmere scarf in plaid (gorgeous and soft - bought the heather gray colorway although I no longer see it online) and the Martie pant in Stewart plaid. I was skeptical the pants would work but they surprisingly fit my build of smallish waist, bigger hips and "athletic" calves (I usually wear a 00 or 0P in skirts or dresses but a 2P in pants; I took a 0 in these and the size and length were great!).

I'm still on the fence about keeping the Campbell blazer in tartan. It's lovely but I'm not sure when I would wear it when it's not the holidays.

  16. I stopped in yesterday after work and I have to say, the one thing that confuses me is the zebra motif. WTH. No offense at all to anyone who appreciates the whimsy, but in a season of some really lovely styles, I don't get it. It looks cheap and juvenile to me. Did they go through the entire alphabet of critters, land on "Z" and think that it an attractive look? *shakes head*

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I love a zebra print but I'm definitely not a "critter" person. It's not for me either but I know it does get a lot of love. Maybe it's a spin off/loose interpretation of the drakes fabrics with the tigers, etc.

      Delete
    2. I would actually love to see a zebra print (e.g., black and white zebra striped cardigan), as I always find myself veering back towards black and white. Zebra motif is a completely different thing (I was going to say animal but people would think I was trying to be clever, which I am most definitely not).

      Delete
    3. I think they chose zebras because JC loves stripes, zebras have stripes, etc. I didn't mind the look of them on the knit PJ bottoms, but on the sweaters they looked kind of like an 80's Atari game. Not my favorite that they've done.

AudreyS, they did a merino b/w zebra striped cardigan in early '08, I think. Keep an eye on eBay.

      Delete
    4. I didn't buy any zebras, I don't get it. I'm not opposed to critters and some animals have been great, like the mirrored horses, but zebras I don't get.

      Delete
    5. I vaguely recall a beaded Zebra tee circa 2008-9ish that sold out quickly and was on eBay for about 4 times the retail price. Maybe in an attempt to recapture their old magic they overestimated how much their customers love zebras - haha.

      Delete
    6. Silver_lining and Violet, I forgot about those zebra items from the days of yore! I loved that merino zebra cardi and remember the snow leopard? One of my favs.

      Delete
    7. I was obsessed with J.Crew snow leopard for so long!

      Delete
    8. I keep wondering why they don't do snow leopard again! I love that so much more than the traditional leopard -- I just can't quite get past associating leopard with cougar, ever since I first saw the Graduate in high school...

(Oddly enough, I did an order from Factory last week; my first in months, maybe even a year, because I saw a snow leopard cardigan, and ballet flats.)

      Delete
    9. I remember a snow leopard button down shirt a few years ago that was popular. I bought and returned it but then always regretted it! Agree that it would be a great print to bring back as it works really well with a lot.

      Delete
    10. I would love a snow leopard and zebra stripe revival! Those were fun but very wearable prints and the merino cardis had a lovely drape.

      J. Crew really can do the most amazing prints but IMO there have been some, um, "dogs" too.

      Delete
    11. People like different things. I didn't care for the elephants but I was immediately attracted to the zebras. I really like the red and contrasting black and white, I find it very festive (less so in the green) and reminds me of an opulent pillow fabric. They should have probably stuck to one item though

      Delete
    12. I don't care for the current zebra critter pieces, but I still wear my merino zebra print in brown/tan, and just picked up the orange/cream for a song on eBay last month! I always regretted not getting it years ago. The sweaters are perfect for me as I don't wear black/white prints, so a traditional zebra print wouldn't work for me.

  17. So I've noticed that several of the popular items look sold out during the day but available in a few sizes (and full size ranges) at night. Are they turning the inventory around that fast or are they just saying sold out during the day while they catch up with in-store orders? This has happened several days in a row so not a one off.
