J.Crew Final Sale: Extra 40% Off!

"Thanks!" to  many of you, who shared the following email & promotion from J.Crew.

J.Crew is offering 40% off Final Sale with promotional code FUNSALE. This offer expires January 21, 2014. The fine print includes:
*Offer valid on the purchase of final sale items in J.Crew stores and at jcrew.com from January 13, 2014, 12:01am ET through January 21, 2014, 11:59pm ET. Offer not valid in the 769 Madison Avenue store, Ludlow Shops, Liquor Store, J.Crew Factory stores, at jcrewfactory.com or on phone orders. Offer cannot be applied to previous purchases and cannot be redeemed for cash or used in combination with any other offers. In-store discount automatically taken at the register. To redeem online, enter code FUNSALE in the promo code box at checkout. Limit one code per order. Valid in the U.S. and Canada only. Terms of offer are subject to change.
It is great to see this extra percentage off at J.Crew online. Especially since the sale section has been bursting at the seams with merchandise. Over at their Sale (click here to shop online) section this morning, there are 1400+ for Women and 600+ for Men. I believe I saw over 1600 items for Women the other day!

As mentioned in last Wednesday's "J.Crew: 40% Off Select Outerwear, Shoes, Boots & B..."post, J.Crew brick & mortar stores were offering an additional 50% off Final Sale. This newest promotion states that 40% off is available online and in stores... So are stores decreasing the additional percent off??? Honestly, they should not. I have been to three different J.Crew stores recently and they are *all* packed with sale merchandise. Things are moving s-l-o-w-l-y.

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Is your local store offering an additional 40% or 50% off Final Sale? If so, please share!

  1. My store had an extra 50% off sale items this weekend and 40% off ALL outerwear - including the coveted field jacket! I was shocked - it never goes on sale online and usually is just select outerwear. Obviously I scooped one up for only $88!

    1. Not sure where you are located, but the Vancouver stores are still having the 50% off sale items today.

  2. I agree Alexis, it's great to see the extra % off online again since the sale section is bursting at the seams. They really should offer the 50% off that they did in-stores to shoppers online, along with free shipping/no minimum if they really want to get rid of all those sale items.

  3. For those who are shopping the extra 40% off sale, there are a lot of promo-priced items eligible for the discount right now. I've updated the Promo-Priced items & Markdowns list...See It Here. :)

  5. It would be better if they started lowering the price of the sale items before offering the 40% off if they are trying to move inventory. If I didn't buy it during the first 40% promo, I'm probably not going to buy it this time.

    1. I was just coming to say this. Aside from the occasional popback, this stuff is just not moving. They are going to have to drastically reduce the prices and then offer 40% off. I really don't understand what is going to happen to all of this clothing. I feel bad for it all. Nobody wants it at those prices.

  6. Good thing that I resisted buying things that were not on my list yesterday in store because this morning I caught the garnet plaid shirt on a popback. Sucked up the shipping but I don't mind (plus, the $5 shipping is easier to suck up than the $9 especially during a 40% off promo)

  7. I got a pair of EXTREMELY worn shoes in the mail from J.Crew today the soles were a mess. I spent about 25 minutes on the phone with CS trying to get the situation sorted out. They ended up doing a pre-return and an immediately we will find it to locate the shoes in a store and have them shipped to me. I am glad they found a solution to my issue but I am angry it happened especially since it was a 300 dollar pair of shoes.

  9. Any idea how the etta suede pumps run? I remember trying a pair on in store and they seemed small, but I can't recall whether it was my usual (8) or I was trying to squeeze into a clearance 7.5.

    1. Hello...I have several pairs of etta pumps, including suede and take my usual size 9. I hope this helps. :)

  10. I'm a little irked that the % off is now 40 off when yesterday in stores it was 50 off. This stuff ain't getting any more appealing by upping the sale price, people!

  11. I stopped in to do a return today and the 50% was still continuing, as was the 40% off coats/shoes/bag promo. Not sure if this is JC wide or specific to certain stores. Didn't get much, some playing cards that are $2.50 after promo and knock knock note pads that were $2, and very strangely, the claremont clutch in red, that was only $45 after promo. The leather on this bag is very cool; not pebbled, but somehow texturized -- I think it will wear well, like the pebbled leathers.

    1. Oh, totally completely OT but I have to share this -- I was seeding a pomegranate yesterday and my 11 year old son told me -- MOM I saw a really cool thing on the Food Network on how to seed a pomegranate! And sure enough, it was really cool: instead of doing it underwater or just with your fingers (resulting in horrid staining), you just cut it in half and whack the back, over a bowl, with a wooden spoon. Amazing! There are lots of youtube videos around if you are intereted.

      Delete
    2. I've never even bought a pomegranate but this makes me want to buy one and try this trick! :)

    4. Ooh, randoms! I made these banana muffins today for the umpteenth time. They come out so great. I add a little vanilla and cinnamon. Mmm mh!

    5. :) Glad I didn't get virtual rotten tomatoes. I started to tell my son that his advice got positive feedback but we didn't past the "WHAT, ARE YOU KIDDING? You follow a J Crew BLOG????" Actually, we did finally get past that, and he asked me to check to see if the trick worked for anyone else. (You do have to whack many times!)

And Gigi, I will definitely be trying that recipe. Allrecipes is my favorite cooking website (and banana bread is two of my three kids' absolute favorite), and love that it has so many reviews to validate (or not) the recipe. Not often that you find a full 5 star review!

      Delete
    6. Hilarious about your son, audreys. I will have to try the pom trick although I'm a little afraid of what my 2 yr old will look like after eating it.

Remember the cinnamon & vanilla. It's so good. Another goodie is the mini blueberry muffin recipe on Itsy Bitsy Foodies. I don't know a ton about cooking -- esp baking -- so I love finding recipes that work exactly as written.

  13. Anyone reviewed the Perfect-fit mixed-tape cardigan? I'm deciding between my two JC sizes, XS or S. However, I have also bought M before in perfect fit items.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think this one was TTS. I like the L in the long sleeved perfect fit tee, but the M in the cardigan. My usual size is M so I took my normal size in the cardigan, sized up in the tee.

      Delete
    2. Cassandra, I agree with Cate. I usually wear an XS or S and went with a small in this cardigan. I really like them except you always have to iron the "tape" part after it is washed and I do not like to iron!

      Delete
    3. Cassandra Jupiter - I would go w/XS or S in the mixed-tape. You can see past reviews on Gingergirl and on xoxo. If you go with XS, it'll fit closer to the body. If you want room to layer it over something else, go w/S. $0.02

    4. You can see it on my here. I'm usually an XS but have these cardigans in both a S and XS. Xs is definitely more fitted than your standard XS.

  14. I noticed the calf hair Martinas are on sale. With the 40% off they are a steal. I have them (bought them several months ago at full price with some % promo and used a rewards card) and love them! I would snatch them on sale if you are thinking about it. I always size up 1/2 size in Martinas from my non J Crew size.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Unimpressed with the pricing. I don't need or want anything that badly, so I think that I'll hold off on buying anything for now. Maybe something that I can't live without with pop-back in my size, like the Box-pleated crepe skirt in ivory. A girl can only dream...

  16. I picked up a few things this morning that I had my eye on. The store had a higher price and wouldn't match the online price + 50% so I ordered. Less hassle when you don't have to argue to get the price:)

  19. I picked up a few things this morning - both popbacks, the garnet plaid shirt and the merino scarf sweater as well as the pearl tassel necklace and reordered the rosette bracelet with the % off. I probably should have called and had them adjust it but my 6AM ordering haze wasn't too clear. Of course my first rosette bracelet showed up today and I'm not sure about it - it's much larger than I expected. I need to think about it.

  20. Has anyone ever gotten a J.Crew coat tailored/altered before? JW how much it would cost and if the results were worth it.

    1. So funny! I was actually going to pose this very same question. I have been looking for a past season ooat on eBay and the only one in the color I want is a few sizes larger than my typical size.

      Delete
    2. I would keep watching for pop-backs. I've been watching the cocoon coats in the mornings for the last few weeks and the sizes come and go. What color are you looking for?

      Delete
    3. You should look on ebay for your actual size. Getting a coat with such thick fabric altered is going to cost almost as much as the coat.

      Delete
    4. eBay is a great idea. Or the JCA exchange posts. I just think the shape of the Cocoon coat is so odd already that tailoring it is going to throw the proportions off.

      Delete
    5. Yes, I got my lady day coat altered this year and it made a huge difference. I ordered my coat in a petite, but it was still too long and my tailor did an amazing job. I know if you have a Jcrew Card they will do the alterations for you. A tailor makes all the difference.

    6. I'm looking for a neutral like camel, grey, black, or navy. I already have a bright coral cocoon coat, and it is very warm and really flattering on me (so I wanted another, ha). I saw there was a navy in size 6 in the sale section, which is why I asked.

Diane H: I thought alterations were only for full price items? I do have a J.Crew card.

    7. Phoebe, there is a Cocoon coat in navy in size 4 online. There are two Cocoon coats you could click on in regular sizes. I assume the navy one is last year's? Here is the style number: 18593

    8. I just checked my review & the 18593 style# for cocoon coat is 2013's style number. The style# might be the same for 2012's release.

    9. That's interesting Gigi. I wonder why they have the same coat style number listed as separate products?

Review of the zip-back stripe shirt & wool bomber sweater-jacket in this post. I really liked the sweater-jacket, but wish it had shoulder seams. The color would go w/lots of J Crew items. More than you'd think. It's on promo for $118 + 40% off.

  26. Nothing has caught my eye lately in sale, but I've gotten a few things I like from the 40% off sales.

I got the wrap pencil skirt and I am surprised but I really like it. The regular pencil skirt is too form-fitting on me. I feel much better in the wrap version, less va va voom, more casual. Someone who reviewed this (sorry I forget who that was) mentioned the tab sticking out at the waistband, and I noticed that too, but it wasn't a dealbreaker for me. If it ever bothers me, it seems like it would be pretty easy to fix (add a hook and eye or move the clasp). I don't tuck in a lot so I don't think I'd ever care. It's pretty minor anyway.

I also finally got a pop-back of the Cocoon coat in gray and it arrived today. I know it's boring but it makes me really happy, I love gray.

I'm with reaganflowers, I am ready to see spring stuff, or at least some different stuff for late winter.

    1. I forgot that I am interested in the Military Parka. It's not at a low enough price for me yet, plus I'd like to see it in the store again but I'm not sure when I'll get in or if they'd even have any left. I think I like the blue color best but my size hasn't been online, plus I don't want to buy it final sale. I'll see if it's still around in the summer at a lower price.

      Delete
    2. Hi Cate - that was me that mentioned the tab thing! You're right, it would be an easy fix, it just bothered me that they wouldn't put the tab closure further out so it would lay flat. Review here

      Delete
    3. Oh thank you, it was bothering me I couldn't remember whose review that was. That's all they had to do, put that tab closer to the edge. Oh well, not a big deal, I like the skirt enough to overlook that minor design flaw.

      Delete
    4. Cate, does the skirt fit TTS? I never saw it in any of the stores. TIA

      Delete
    5. Hi Rose, yes I think it does. I bought an 8 and it's just right on me, maybe even a bit of extra room at the waist. It is a bit on the longer side, though, just below the knees on me at 5'4". From the waist down, it is super forgiving. The trick will be getting the waist size right.

  27. I got the fair isle leggings in hydrangea in store for $35. Really like them, but only see myself wearing them in VT on ski trips, so I would not have much more than that. I also bought the patch pocket pencil skirt in navy.

  33. I have a weird question. When SAs look up prices on an iPad what are they looking at, exactly? Store prices/inventory or online? I was excited to find one classic link bracelet today that I am 100% sure I saw on sale in November. I was expecting it to be still on sale but when they looked it up it rang up fp. Now I am wondering if they looked it up online as it was the only one and it had one of those "handmade" white tags that they cannot scan. Anybody bought this one recently and can confirm that it is still on sale in stores?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I always thought when they use the iPad it is to check online.

      Delete
    2. I just went through this. I had them search for an item. Through the red ipad thing, it's just the regular website any of us could look up using our phone. They had to do a search through the register to look for store inventory.

      Delete
    3. I ran into that problem too Ema. I think it is particularly bad for jewelry items. Sometimes one color is at a lower price than another and unless it has the original UPC code tag it doesn't run up properly. The example I had was the fanned leaf necklace in misty fog. I remember the blue colorway was higher priced online than the misty fog red version so I'm wondering if it was that way in the retail stores. This one had the handwritten tag. Retail wanted $99.99 less 50%. Web $69.99-40%. Cheaper online so I purchased that way. Of course not all SAs are willing to wheel and deal but I tried since I had heard reports of it being priced cheaper than what it was marked. Sometimes it's just exhausting trying to make sure you get the best deal out there. Jcrew should know by now when I save I just turn around and spend my "winnings" later!

      Delete
    4. Thank you for sharing. It is more aggravating when something is fp online but on sale in store and they tell you that it is fp because they can't find out what the real price is. The other day I had the opposite situation, a necklace that was more expensive in store than online but soldout online. I was sure of the online price but they told me after "verifying" that the last online price was the same than the store price. I just knew it wasn't the same so I put it on hold. The day after it popped back online so I came back with "proof" but what a hassle!
In this case I am not sure though. It could be that it went back fp. It would be helpful if someone who bought it recently could confirm.

    6. Ema - I recently learned that they *can* see store inventory on the iPad thingie. I thought it was fairly worthless. Do they *really* need to look up if an item is in stock online before getting on the red phone to call? They do that in one of the stores I visit. Sometimes the red phone is about 10 steps away and the iPad thing is no faster than you or I being online. I've looked up things faster on my phone, while my vps is looking it up on the pad. I really didn't understand checking online inventory with the pad if the phone is so close. It seemed like double work. I can see maybe in a big store, but not a small one.

I did question, one time, what my vpa was seeing and she showed me the pad w/ inventory information. So I'm guessing it's a matter of them going into a certain screen on it to look up store inventory info. I didn't look at the screen for very long, but I saw product, color and quantity for each item, going down the list. Now I see why it can sometimes take them a long time to look up something on the computer. They're fighting a wall of text.

As far as price verification. The stores can only see the price that we see online. If the sale price is missing because the item is sold out, they can't see it if they're on the regular website screen. I don't believe they can see if an online item was marked down. I think they can only see the current in-store price for the item and the price for each color if there are multiple color options.

If the rep calls customer service, cs can definitely tell them the most recent price even if the item is out of stock.

Re the bracelet. I saw them at $69.99 in multiple stores and now they're gone since the addtl 50% off has kicked in. Sometimes items have gone back up to fp online as we know, but I've never seen that in-store. Once it's marked down, that's it. If I really need to be certain of a price while in-store, I try to have it scanned. I know they can put in that long sku to get the price. I can imagine they just don't feel like doing it, but I know they can. HTH

      Delete
    7. Bah, I give up! I asked them to look it up in the store inventory specifically and they told me it is fp. Whatever. I do not "need" it but for sure I don't want to pay more than what I should.

      Delete
    8. Plus, I went to see "Gravity" earlier today and it helps to put things into perspective. What's JCrew and a JCrew bracelet compare with what's in the universe...

      Delete
    9. Ema, the bracelet is about $45 in Canadian stores. I'd be more than happy to pik it up for you if you would like.

      Delete
    10. Ema, that's weird. Maybe they put it back up to fp. If I see one, I'll have it scanned and hold it till I can be in touch w/you -- if it's on sale, of course.

      Delete
    11. Ema,

I saw the bracelet yesterday at the Philadelphia store (Chestnut St.). It is $69.99 before the 50% off. I was there at about 6:30pm and they close at 7pm so it is probably still there. hope that helps.

      Delete
  34. I also think when they check the iPad it's just the regular website. I had an SA do a price check and she checked the iPad (which of course the item was full price online but in store sale) and then when I told her it was supposed to be on sale in store (thanks JCA) she checked through the register.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Muffin - I think the SA has to go into a different screen to access the store inventory. Maybe she didn't know that or she just thinks the register is faster or easier to read.

What I know for sure is that not all employees have the same knowledge. I recently informed a SA that a screenshot of the receipt for a send/sale transaction can be emailed to the customer. Didn't have a clue. I realize there are always new employees, but I think there are a good number that don't know this.

  35. Slightly OT: but if there are any MA JCA's looking for a good sale selection, definitely try the Lynnfield store at Market Street. They had a ton of sale stuff as compared to other suburban stores and it was SO NEAT and ORGANIZED. Because the shopping center is new and outdoors I don't think it has gotten super busy yet.

    1. I've heard the same...someone posted on Instagram recently that they're being replaced with the Emma flats, which were positively reviewed...haven't tried them out yet, I love the Ceces so will be interested to try the new ones.

    2. A mgr told me the Ceces are being replaced with the Emmas. She said the Emmas are supposed to be even better, but she hadn't tried them. I haven't tried them either, yet.

  43. Today I saw a sign for 25% off out-of-case jewelry. $49.50 for Jackie cardis. I didn't see any new markdowns in-store.

  44. OT: Madewell is still offering 40% off final sale styles until 1.20.14. There are new promo-priced items today (they also receive the discount), so I've updated the Madewell Promo-Priced items list with the new additions...
