Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  2. I bought and returned the wool cafe capris in winter white from J.Crew because although it was a lovely pant it was $100, required tailoring (which I would not get from J Crew because the pant legs would have to be taken in), and how versatile is a wool capri, in the real world as opposed to a J.Crew catalog-land? A wool capri. In BOSTON?

Here it is BTW. Fits TTS. Only irritating part is the visible pockets (but my black panties did not show through! http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/Sale/AllProducts/PRDOVR~30543/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~0~15~all~mode+matchallany~~~~~white%20capri/30543.jsp

Thankfully, BR had a FULL LENGTH winter white/ivory wool pant - the martin. I was able to snag a regular size (I am a petite) for $51 and BR will shorten the hem for free. More vanilla than white but they are very nice and don't seem as see through as some of the reviewers complain. Need to wear them around the house in different lights but I think they are a keeper.

Sad that our only really option for dress pants this year is the stovepipe - not flattering on me.

  4. If anyone is in the market for a new trench, I just received this year's BR version in the mail this week. i bought the almond colour. I absolutely love it! The colour is perfect, I love the tortoise shell coloured buttons, the length is perfect (not too long; not too short), lots of detailing and the fabric feels substantial. I live in Canada, so this baby won't see any wear for a few months. Until then, it's hanging in my front closet and I give it a longing look every now and then!

    1. Whoa. There are cute shoes. I've never bought shoes from Talbots before. Do you know if they fit true to size?

    2. They run slightly small. I usually have to size up 1/2 size. They are similar to J.Crew shoes, meaning they almost always run small! I find the flats to run slightly smaller than the heels. I hope that helps. At least they aren't final sale!

  8. I visited Lands End today and scored the winter coat I had been stalking online. Sale items have been ticketed at lower prices than I saw online plus additional 30% off.

  9. CWonder has an aesthetic similar to Tory Burch and Kate Spade but at a more affordable price point. Their sale items are additional 50% off. Sizing is a little more generous than JCrew. JCrew I am usually a small, occasionally a med in tees. CWonder I need a small definitely not a medium. There are a few caveats: if one of your items turns out to be out of stock they will cancel the entire order. The CS - very nice and accommodating - told me if that happens they try to help. And if you can send returns back for a refund but if you return to a store they only offer store credit.

  11. Hi, all! Since so many great folks have been visiting my blog for the past four years, I decided to give away four $25 gift cards to four retailers (choice is the winners, so I won't know which retailers will get my giveaway business till the end). Obviously J. Crew is one of the retailers, but the other three are perennial favorites here...Boden, Anthropologie, and Madewell. So if you all are interested, swing on by to see more on how to enter (it's not complicated--I don't *do* complicated giveaways): http://mysuperfluities.blogspot.com/2013/01/giveaway-celebrate-good-times-come-on.html.

P.S. Like last week, Boden has another round of items that are reduced by 20% and then a further 15% (if you use my blog's sidebar coupon to get the 15%). You can see this week's choices here: http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Weekly-Offers.html#main.

I have no idea how long Boden plans on keeping this up, but it would be great if they did decide this could be permanent, since the (roughly) 32% off makes the items a decent price, especially if you can't wait for an item to go to clearance.
