J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Happy New Year All!

Anyone considering the chiffon top in pewter leopard, I highly recommend it and you can get a peek here:

  2. Liberty toothpick jeans - TTS and really cute. Although I feel that if they weren't Liberty print, I may think them to be too early 90's Laura Ashley-ish. But since they are a real Liberty, I love them. I'm lame, I know.

Material is soft but thick. Print is vibrant and pretty. Wearing today even though it is 25 degrees and they are rather Springlike.

    1. I saw those pants in store and they look really cute and comfy. I can see why you like them. If I had not worn similar pants in my youth I would totally buy them. I might consider them on sale (if they make it there) to lounge in at home.

  3. Happy New Year ladies!!

Wool Cafe Capri in Winter White - Having a lining feels so much better than the ones without it. The pockets do show through big time though both in the front and the back. This does bother me but I think I'll keep them as I wanted an off white pant. They do pick up everything (lint etc.) near them but that's not unexpected with the color. I took my 'usual' cafe capri size and asked for measurements which was correct although they are a little baggy in the thigh area.

Grey tartan boy shirt- this is a nice, soft flannel feeling shirt. I sized down one size from my perfect shirt size because I wanted the body to be less loose. This worked out great and was not tight in the shoulders unlike some boy shirts that are tight in the shoulders when I size down.

Vintage PJ set in fleur de lis - I bought these on sale (59.99 before discount) in store. The last thing I needed was more PJs but the vintage cotton are my favorite and I couldn't pass up the sale. The print is cute, I didn't really want ivory as they're more seethrough but I really love this style of PJs so I grabbed them. They fit TTS to a little baggy on me.

  5. If you are looking for a red blazer, I reviewed both the schoolboy blazer in modern red (almost 70% off right now and there are still quite a few sizes!!) and the factory professor blazer in maraschino cherry here:

    1. I ordered the modern red and just discovered I also need to size up. I have 2 other schoolboys (navy wool and herringbone) and modern red does seem to fit a whole size smaller.

    2. Isn't that funny?! I'm always an 8 in J. Crew jackets/blazers so I was really surprised that I needed a 10. The J. Crew factory one was much truer to size/better fit but I'm still a fan of the schoolboy...

  6. Has anyone tried on or seen the new schoolboy blazer in wool flannel in black yet? I'm curious about the fabric and quality. In my experience the wool flannel fabric quality varies a bit.

    Thanks!

    1. Cate O.: I received the blazer yesterday. I think that the quality is great. I'll post a full review later today!

  7. Does anybody have any reviews of the stretch wool A-Line Dress in the suiting section? Specifically the length? I'm thinking that this would be a nice work dress, but not if it hits too far above the knee.

  8. Kids Macalisters -- my search for winter shoes is over! I live in ballet flats as long as I can, since I'd rather freeze than wear ugly shoes. The regular Macalisters were too narrow for my feet and also hard to slip on due to not being lined.

The kids version has the same quality, plus lining, and is just a touch wider. And it's at a lower price to boot!

  9. Looking for reviews on the lady day coat before I make a purchase on final sale. I own a 2 tall in the metro coat from last year. I got the measurements on the 2 tall on the lady day, and the waist is smaller by about a size (and sits about 1.25 inches higher than the metro). Anyone own both the lady day and the metro? Thoughts about whether I should go one size up in the lady day? And any thoughts as to whether the waist on the lady day sits o.k. or if it's too high? Thanks for the help!!

    1. Definitely size up.I normally wear a 0 in blazers and coats but the lady was very tight at the waist that I can't button it.

  10. I think Mickey and his playhouse mates are listening!
I received my Jules in Botanical print and it is a full inch and three-quarters longer than my Trompe l'oeil lace version. That might not mean much for the taller girls but at 5'4", it's a blessing. I might still let the hem down but I'm not sure as it hits about 1" above my knee, which is my cut-off point for minis. Like the lace, it is lined and the 100% poly lining is sewn to the silk twill so messing with that might cause the lining to ride up when worn. There is 2" of "extra" fabric at the hem though if anyone wants to consider it. This Jules also has a hidden back zip. yay!

Now for the fun part. The print! It is absolutely gorgeous IMO. Muted shades of blue, green, orangey-reds and yellow, browns and gray on an ivory background. This is the J. Crew print that I have been waiting for. It kind of reminds me of vintage Mediterranean prints. The fit is TTS. Fits just like my other Jules dresses. For reference, I am currently 36-27-37 and took a size 2. I can probably fit into a size 0 in this version since it does have a back zip but I like the extra room that the size 2 provides especially in the bust area.

Now for the Silk Dot top. There is something seriously wrong with that top. Or maybe it's me. In my haste to snap up this baby, I didn't pay attention to the back view online. Ladies, pay attention to the back view! It is most definitely the mullet top that it appears to be online. Pretty in front, disaster in the back. I felt that I looked like a linebacker from the back. That siad, the fabric is heartbreakingly beautiful. Why J. Crew?! A nice weight (I wouldn't call it heavy) silk twill and fully lined in sheer poly chiffon.
It does remind me of my Flamenco dot pop-over blouse, circa 2008 though the dots are obviously much smaller. I would wear this with a blazer on top to hide the back so I might still consider on a super sale. I know. I know. But there is something special about dots even though it's everywhere this season.

    1. D*ska, thanks for the review! Is it possible for you to measure the length shoulder seam to hem? That way I would know if that extra 2" of hem would make this long enough for me.

    2. Desert Flower, it is 35" from the shoulder seam to the hem.

  11. I returned this dress but I think it is the BEST print J. Crew has ever done. I am hoping for it in a scarf or blouse or even a skirt. I returned it due to length and price. I am 5' 9" and it was out of my comfort zone at my age, but others will look fab in this dress. I returned a size 8 to the Las Vegas, Nevada store yesterday if interested. It was in perfect shape unlike the pink collection Jules I ordered on presale that came with a long snag in it!
