J.Crew Email: Just for Cardmembers: a luxurious carryall

"Thanks!" to Desert Flower, Irina, & Ramona, who shared with us the latest email from J.Crew to its card members.

The email above features the not-yet-officially-released-online Biennial Satchel (Item 57107; $348.00). J.Crew mentions: "this classic silhouette in rich pebbled leather that just gets better with age- you'll love it twice as much next year." The description also includes:
We're head over heels for the perfect proportions of this luxe satchel. Crafted in supple pebbled leather, this sleek two-handle bag- a design team pick- has enough room for your laptop, your lipstick and even your little cashmere cardigan. It's just what we've always wanted: a can-do carryall with effortless elegance. Leather. Zip closure. Cotton twill lining. Comes with dust bag.Import. 6" handle drop. 11"H x 16"W x 7"D.
I am really impressed with J.Crew's handbags in the new collection. They are going back to more classic shapes and rich shades.

And of course, this means that new arrivals are once again around the corner!

What are your thoughts on the new satchel? Do you like the style and size of the bag?

  1. I love the looks of this bag...especially in red, but I think it's going to be too big for me. I carry alot of junk, but I don't need enough space to carry my laptop...

Hope someone posts photos and a review soon.

  2. I think the red bag is gorgeous - but the price, ouch.

  3. Love the red, love the type of leather, love the zippers...hate the price, hate that it has too many compartments.

  4. Oh, and I also hate bags with teeny tiny little handles. To me, a bag is impractical if it can't even go over the shoulder if necessary!

  5. Red is gorgeous, looks "Ryder Satchel"-big, which is a bag I love but agree it requires a shoulder strap.

  7. I actually love the shape and the fact that there are three compartments - I need the help in organizing my stuff, and it is a modern take on a very classic shape. The colors are great too.

What concerns me is the size. It sounds huge! I own the Ashbury bag which is 13.5 by 13.5 by 8 and it's enormous on my 5'2" frame. It has a shoulder strap, but I had to replace it with a wider, more comfortable one because it was simply too big to carry like a satchel. This bag is even wider, but it is not a shape that would look good with a shoulder strap. I'm undecided on this and am really holding out for that leopard print bag from spring.

  8. I agree with J. CrewJD! It's such a lovely shade of red, and the shape is incredible, but the handles are so impractical!

  10. I love it. If only it weren't so expensive.

  11. I wish they would include a promo with these emails, like 20% off and free shipping. It is way too expensive.

  12. I LOVE this bag. If I get a promo % or it goes on sale, I'll be all over it. My biggest problem is what color. I'm drawn to the red, but already have two red bags, including the large Edie, and just got an orange coach. Maybe the brown...

  13. Beautiful bag. Totally w/JCrewJD. The handle drop has to be able to go over the shoulder comfortably or it's a pass. I've learned the hard, uncomfortable way.

  14. I love the red bag...would definitely consider it at sale price.

  15. I agree with others, this is too big to carry on the shoulder and a bit too big for my lifestyle. I like the bowling bag style, there are quite a few similar bags available out there with dimensions and straps that will work better for me.

  16. I like the style, but it is too big for me.

  17. i saw this bag IRL in my local store i wish i took pics for you guys =( I loved the colors especially the red, the leather is gorgeous and the zippers are lovely BUT it's HUGE! I'm 5'3 and when I was holding it in my hand it looked like i'm about to board a plane with a carry on.

  18. It's cute, but it just looks too big and bulky to carry on the shoulder (even if the handles are big enough). Love the red color though!

  19. Looks very beautiful, but ack! The bag sounds huge! I have a smaller bag in a similar style but in nylon and it's very practical. The sizing on this reminds me of a suitcase!

  21. I looked at the measurements and this bag is HUGE. I also do not like the 3 compartments. I always forget what I put where, so I will constantly be zipping and unzipping 3 compartments. I have gone through something similar with the Rhodie satchel I got earlier this year, and have worn it a total of 2 times because of that reason.

  23. I like the style, but the bag is too "thick" and too big. That kind of handle though, is exactly what I look for in a bag.

  24. I love the overall shape, and would use the compartments to their full potential (wink at Rose), but like others pointed out, it's huge! Airline carry-on limits bags up to 21"x14"x9"...this bag juuuuust makes the cut! LOL.

  25. I ADORE this bag. My mother bought one and I loved it so much I had to get one for myself. I am 5ft 6 and a half inches tall and 135 lbs. I can understand how someone 5ft 3" might feel it's too big, but on my frame it's perfect. It has just slightly more room than a regular handbag. I'm always wishing I had just a little more room to carry my ipad, or a cardigan, or extra things I might need throughout the course of the day, and this bag solves that problem without feeling like carry-on luggage. It's NOT that big. The leather is gorgeous and the 3 compartments are brilliant. The photos simply don't do it justice. The price is great for the quality, when you consider that many bags of this quality retail for over $1,000 easily! (at least in NYC department stores they do). It looks like a very expensive handbag and I am extremely happy with my purchase. I bought it in black and may get the camel color for summer. I am VERY picky when it comes to handbags and I am thrilled with this purchase. Bravo J.Crew! This bag is a winner!

  27. AND it can easily go over your shoulder. It's not a traditional shoulder bag, but the handles are long enough where you can put it over your shoulder if necessary :-)
