  1. It's nice that the discount is already taken so you don't need a code (and therefore, can use the FS one).

However, after looking at the shape some of my fall/winter 2010 sweaters in, I can't partake in this. I do like the look of the mixed-stitch cardigan but think the little pockets up top may be too much.

  2. Does anyone need a Madewell code? Take it off my hands before I buy something I don't need! ><

  3. (I mean the 20%/free ship code if it wasn't obvious...) And sorry for off topic!!

  4. Grabbed three Jackie Cardigans this morning: neon azalea, bavarian blue, and warm buttercup. Passed on pale coral. Does anyone know if any of new colors in Jackie Cardi went on sale in store?...I am studying for my finals -- so no way I can make it to the store before Saturday afternoon!

  5. WPZ, I do! eveng81@gmail.com thanks!!

  6. Nah. No sweaters for me. I have a feeling that in a week or two, temps are going to be steadily in the 80s, urgh.

I caved again to yesterday's sale refresh and bought the pearl and crystal symphony necklace and a few other odds and ends. There was no inventory dump at midnight, but as of right now the sale section is up about 200 items from last night.

I really wish I had a madewell near me so I could buy jeans on sale there, the prices seem pretty good.

  7. I'm tempted by a few things but will hold off. Trying to be good!

  8. The only sweater I was vaguely interested in went on sale, so I won't take advantage of this promo. For those who are considering the lace popover, I tried it yesterday in grey and it fits TTS (fit is great actually). It's a bummer that the color choices are so boring on this one, if it came in white or agate Or blue instead of grey, black and the pinkish color I would bite! Will post pics later

  9. Am I correct to assume that FS on all sweaters is not included in this offer?

  10. OT-I have a Madewell 20% off/free shipping code that I'd love to give away. Let me know!
    THanks!

  11. Why are the cashmere short sleeve tees missing from the website? Hmm, J Crew? They are on the cover of your latest catalog!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Pumpkin, I saw the Jackies in sweet hyacinth, warm buttercup, light slate, hawthorn green and bright cinnamon on sale at North Michigan Ave. (Chicago) yesterday. They were folded on a bottom shelf; think they were all marked $39.99 but don't quote me on that.

    ReplyDelete
  13. @Kristin: Sneaky sneaky...I even did a search by code...gone, baby gone!

    ReplyDelete
  14. @shopalot: Thanks! I will make a trip on Saturday...although I am in sunny MIA :). If I can snatch some of the colors I just ordered for less, I will return the ones I ordered...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Pumpkin, hope you have good luck at the store. Definitely worth a trip because lots of brand new things are already reduced. I'm waiting for the radiant orchid to go on sale. LOVE that color; must have it for my Jackie collection!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Super lame on the cashmere tees - I saw them in the sale section this morning, but now they're gone. If you search by Google they come up as entirely sold out. Don't worry, they'll magically return in all sizes and colors once the sweater promo is over. :|

    ReplyDelete
  17. @shopalot: That is a very pretty color! Just called my store and none of the this season colors are on sale :( Too bad...20% is still a pretty good deal... Do you get the shell for your Jackie cardigans as well? If so, how do they fit? should I down size on the shell?

    ReplyDelete
  18. cuckoo: if you could share yours, that would be great as I have 5 things sitting in my cart. Just hoping for a last minute code!
    eveng81@gmail.com
    thank you in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Pumpkin, I have never purchased a shell for my Jackies. My local store doesn't carry the shells, so don't know how the sizes run. I need to size up in the Jackies due to my shoulders, but that would not be an issue with the shell. Maybe go with your usual size and you can always return it if it doesn't work out.

Strange that your local B&M isn't offering those colors on sale. Maybe the stores can mark down items that aren't selling in the area? Wish I knew the method to the markdown madness!!

  20. Can anyone comment on the Cashmere Annette cardigan? Fit, quality, etc? I have other J.Crew cashmere sweaters so I know how they typically are.

  22. Pumpkin, I purchase the Jackie shells with the cardigan every time because besides the twinset look I find the shells extremely versatile as a sleeveless tee, a shell under other sweaters or jackets and as vest over a button-down or tee shirt.

I take my usual size in the Jackie shell. If the shell is too tight it may pull across the chest causing the armholes to be pulled further open and besides the possibility of extra exposure the knit armholes may not lay flat. Unless you have a very minimal bustline I would not size down in the shell.

  23. Anyone still have a Madewell code they're not using? I have my eye on a few items. jaymiek@hotmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's so sneaky JC to be hiding things and now they've gone one more step to take them off the inventory. We customers aren't that stupid to figure out what they're trying to do.

That said, I'm not buying any sweaters. I've got more than I can wear. JC prices are a bubble and 20% isn't much of a discount.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Isn't it amazing how the website can do all these clever stunts with inventory but not tell you whether or not your item will in fact ship?

    ReplyDelete
  26. The colors of the shorts and the cardigan in the ad clash in a really uncomfortable way. Yikes!

This doesn't convince me that buying a sweater will add positively to my style.

    ReplyDelete
  27. wellfedfred: EXACTLY! The order I placed very early Monday morning still has not shipped. I have a very bad feeling that at least one of my items is unavailable. Waiting for the "Wish We Made Enough" email with dread!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Since Madewell was thrown around a bit in the post I thought I would also mention there are a few additional markdowns in the sales section. In the wee hours of the morning there were some well priced popbacks too (I was up with baby) not sure how it looks now....

    ReplyDelete
  29. alas--the 2 sweaters I have been considering are not on the promo. I don't blame them--they just came out and will probably sell well without the % off. Need to figure out what I actually "need" for spring anyway...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh BTW my order from Saturday 30% off has not shipped yet! Fun!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I feel that madwell items are overpiced and even though I am in my late 20s they are too funky for me. If anyone needs my 20% off code let me know...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi gem twin - I'm curious, which 2 sweaters? I thought the promo was on "all sweaters" (unless JC removes them from the site).

    ReplyDelete
  33. Pumpkin: if you still have your code, I'd love it! I responded to the two others who offered earlier but have not heard back from anyone. If anyone has one, I'd greatly appreciate it as I have a ton of things in my cart. Thanks!

    eveng81@gmail.com

  34. Sneaky Jcrew.... I had the collection Isabel sweater in my cart early this morning in 3 colors and was trying to decide which one to order. Not a bargain @ $180 on sale, but I have been wanting it for awhile.... It was in stock in every color (9+ colors) in ALL sizes and now when I step back to my computer it is magically gone!!! So they are obviously hiding the cashmere. Not happy... not to mention the e-mail I just received canceling an item from my last order.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow. They removed the side-zip sweater too. I saw it early this morning on promo, just like the cashmere tee. Now both are removed and don't come up even with the item number. These are new in the catalog. Amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I thought about ordering the bavarian blue jackie cardi. It's very pretty, but I really don't need any more sweaters right now.

I haven't been shopping for clothes much lately. I actually had *negative* clothing spending in February! I returned and repurchased some skirts that went on sale, and the savings was greater than the two additional items I purchased.

  38. I am generally XS in all jcrew sweaters. However, I have heard that jackies run a little tight. Can someone please advice me on whether I should get XS or S? I want to be able to wear buttoned up. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm really upset regarding the cash short sleeve. It was completely avail last night and now it's not even avail in we will find it- literally took 10 mins To get email back saying no. This is really wrong. I don't like these tricks.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @subchya: I usually wear XS in all tees and tops. For sweaters I prefer a little loose fit so I pick S, but I have a collection of Jackie Cardigans and size S is very fitted. I think you should go with S.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Has anyone tried the spangled stripe sweater? (i.e., the fake Natalie)

    ReplyDelete
  42. The Madewell code has been claimed!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Since I'm trying to avoid the buy/return revolving door, it's too difficult to commit to a purchase online at this time. Maybe I'll get to the b&m before the promo ends.

Also, I haven't been living on the website as much as I usually do so I'm not sure of what's hidden, etc., but after reading the comments, I don't really feel like shopping w/them today.

J.Crew, change the marketing from "20% off all sweaters" to "20% off select sweaters" & stop wasting our precious time. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  44. IRL, exactly. Also, the promo is online only. However, some of the sweaters are marked lower in the B&M, like the striped Saturday ($49.99), several colors of Jackies ($39.99), and Forever cotton cardigans ($39.99, I think). Who can keep track of all this!

    ReplyDelete
  45. these women only sales are really starting to annoy me. are they TRYING to drive my business elsewhere???

    ReplyDelete
  46. The claim that the Isabel sweater and the cashmere tees are sold out:

    http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/PRDOVR~35770/35770.jsp

    http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/PRDOVR~28762/28762.jsp

Google's cache copies of both pages dated Feb 26 show all sizes and the full range of colors. That's pretty crappy. Also counterproductive ... what if someone wanted to buy one at full price? All they would need to do is add a marker that says "excluded from promotions" or something like that.

How long until they miraculously reappear?? Call the Pope when it happens. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I am wearing my new Jackie today and the button placket is a bit off and puckered at the top. I steamed it out when it arrived and never noticed this until I put it on so hopefully it is fixable with a little more steam. :(

    ReplyDelete
  48. The ones that I want - Cashmere Isabel Sweatshirt & the short sleeve tees all disappear. Actually I sleep late last night & saw the promo came up on JC Website but at that time discount was not yet reflected in marked price. So I gave up checking out & went to sleep.
If JC says sth like "exclusions on selected items" in the promo I might feel less annoyed.

    ReplyDelete
  49. xoxo, I had some Jackies with that issue, if steam doesn't work just dab some water there so the full thickness of the knit is wet and then straighten it out with your fingers.

Speaking of sweaters ... does everyone dry clean their J Crew sweaters? I hand wash mine, never dry clean. And when they're dry I press them lightly with a cloth and clip (never pull) any pills.

    ReplyDelete
  50. tamara: I hand wash all my sweaters and silk camis. The Laundress detergents are great and love the scents.
What type of sweater peeler do you use?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Subechya- I'm an xs/2 in almost everything at J Crew, but always buy the Jackies in sz. small as they do seem to fit tight. I can't even squeeze into an xs! I'm also very small busted, so if you're anything bigger than an 'A', you'll probably want to size up to the small anyway so you can button it without gaping.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I've tried many pill-removing methods but my favorite is just cutting them with my Gingher embroidery scissors. They are very fine and sharp scissors and you can get them very close to the surface of the knit.

    Gingher 4" Embroidery Scissors

I haven't tried the Laundress products, I see they're available on drugstore.com, I'm going to try them!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I was looking at reviews of The Laundress cedar-scent detergent for wool and cashmere and cringed when I read this:

"I too was nervous to put my really good cashmere in the washing machine, but I jumped in and I'm glad I did."

Oh my god I would never put a wool sweater in the washing machine, even a front-loader on the delicate cycle and cold water. I wonder if that's a fake review. You know people get paid to deposit glowing reviews, it makes me question the entire reviewing process.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Tamara: I put my cashmere in my front loading machine on the "handwash" cycle with cold water, and line dry it, and the cashmere is just fine. In fact it leaves the fibers a bit lofty so I think it looks better with each wash. But I may be in the minority. Anyone else machine wash cashmere besides me?

RE: Jackies...I am teeny busted (sadness, lol) and I wear an xs shell and a small cardi. That said, I used to be a small shell and medium cardi. I feel the vanity sizing has been out to play lately.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Cashmere = dry cleaning or hand washing. I role them flat on the floor in a few towels to remove water...and dry them flat. I did put my cashmere into a washing machine once -- it was $500 Ralph Lauren sweater...big big mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  56. egyptomaniac - Thank You. I am 32C, so XS will definitely be too small. Debating whether I should order S and M to try on.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I also put my sweaters in the washing machine on gentle cycle. And I have a top loader! They turn out fine. but I do agree about wondering about the fake reviews myself.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Just got home from my office meetings and there to greet me was a brown box from J.Crew. I received the Lighthouse cardigan and a Jackie twinset in radiant orchid. The Jackie is a keeper as always but the Lighthouse cardigan is awful and already back in the plastic to be returned. There is a reason the model is holding it open and turned slightly away in the front shot. The large, thick ribbing on the bottom plus the square pockets with bulky rolled tops add an incredible amount of heft to my frame. It looks like I have solid flesh from my bust straight down to the end of the cardi in one long sweater tube. Horrid.

I sized up to get the extra length but I doubt the smaller size would be any better since the pockets would be even closer to my bust. I thought perhaps it would be similar to the grandpa cardis of past years except in a summer yarn but the fit is totally off. I was tempted to order the white ash as well and I'm so glad I didn't. Such a shame as the yarn is really soft and silky to the touch and I love the weight. Although an odd thing is that I am now covered with gray lint from trying on the sweater. I had no idea that silk/cotton could shed so much, so fast and I also noticed that one pocket isn't stitched on in a straight line, the stitching wavers out just a bit, right in the front. I know other have posted positively about this sweater but it is definitely not for me.

    :^{

    ReplyDelete
  59. tamara--I think hand wash is BETTER than dry clean. I use a bag, front load, gentle cycle with gentle detergent (the laundress) then shake out dry flat on a towel. so dreamy soft and nice smelling.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hi silver lining--the side zip and that new cashmere sweatshirt. They just came out so I wasn't surprised (or angry) but I guess they should probably say "select sweaters" at 20% off.

    ReplyDelete
  61. So far I have been washing all my sweaters in the front loader washer on the 'wool' cycle with Woolite detergent and haven't had any problems at all.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I put most of my cashmere sweaters in the washer *and* dryer. Yes, I do. I read where someone said they do that and I tried it. Cautiously at first, for just a couple minutes. Now I dry most of them for until they're almost completely dry.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Already posted in the vent, but...I have hard time buying that the Featherweight Cashmere Short Sleeve Cardigan is sold out the day of the 20% promo comes out.

Just yesterday, they were fully stocked with all colors & sizes. Pu-leaze.

    Tired of the games.

    ReplyDelete
  64. wolfy- i let out all of that frustration out at the personal shopper chat. i requested she submit my feedback. i don't like being played!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm glad someone finally calling them out. I guess they caught on that their customers smart enough to bookmark & search for the items they want exclude from their promo.

    Silly rabbit.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I didn't think of using a bag to wash a sweater! I use bags for my lingerie.

I just got my order that included a couple of factory cardigans. Very cute! I got the crinkled chiffon cardi in the pink champagne color. The color is to die for! Such a beautiful pale pink color. I went online to get pictures of the cardigans because I like to have pictures of all of my garments and I was surprised to get into the factory section of the web site when it's not officially open. (I broke in!) So just as a test I put a cardi into my shopping card, no prob, and started the checkout process. I'm wondering if anyone's actually gone through with it, bought something from the factory section before it's open.

By the way, in a prior post I mentioned that I cut of pills with some embroidery scissors, I forgot that I have also used a regular double blade razor to shave fine pills. No shaving cream though. :)

  67. What time does J crew update the sale inventory? Is it like 6 am or before that?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Pumpkin

Typically it is just after 5:30am Eastern...

Keep in mind it can very depending on the day. Of course the day you wake up early to watch it will be at 8. This happens sometimes too.

If your searching for something in particular google it and it should come up around that time even if it isn't showing on the site yet.

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Tamara,

Since I'm on a roll tonight I thought I'd mention that I regularly order when the factory page isn't technically open. In fact during a new roll out the prices seem to be lower until the site is "live". Now that secret is out...

    ReplyDelete
  70. For the Jackie Cardigan, the chest circumference in size S is 33 inches and size M is 35 inches, the waist circumference in size S is 30.5 inches and size M is 32.5 inches and the body length in size S is 21.5 inches and size M is 22 inches.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I just purchased my first Jackie cardigan (with 20% off plus 20% off coupon that came in my March catalog). Has anyone seen the bright cinnamon color in real life. I'm hoping it is orange, as it looks on the website, and not "red-y cinnamon-y"

    ReplyDelete
  72. Pumpkin- thank you for this, removed all confusion. I am definitely a S in Jackie then!

    ReplyDelete
  73. blakemdjohns - Bright cinnamon is like a fall orange. Like a spice color with brown tones. Not red. At least the one I own isn't. It's close to the english saddle color in the button back tee.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Darn - I wish it was more of a bright orange than a spice orange, but I should have figured as much with "cinnamon" in the name.

  78. Tried this on yesterday instore.

    Oralie cardigan
This Cardigan is heavy, & I don't mean thick. But it's sort thick as well. Very unique but a pass b/c of the weight & the color I tried on (Stone) was sort of meh. The material is not shiny or flat, but irridescent. And the material is smooth. This might be a go at deep discount in bronze or slate.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I was going to try the Sabrina cardigan, it's new, but the price isn't discounted at all. It appears to be the only cardi that isn't discounted. I wonder why.
