"Looking to LOVE" with J.Crew

Preface: A big "thanks!" to Ibi who suggested weekly 'Looking to LOVE' and 'Looking to HATE' posts where we could all "deposit" our best & worst current experiences. I think it is a brilliant idea and will try it out for a few weeks. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)

This is the weekly "Looking to LOVE with J.Crew" post, a place to share our favorite experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a positive situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including stellar experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Just wanted to share a great recent experience with customer service. I recently purchased the Coletta coat in-store using the red phone with my 20% off cardmember code. I got free shipping for ordering in store as well. The next day, I got the promo email about all outerwear being 20% off. I emailed CS asking if I could have a price adjustment on the coat I'd ordered the day before. They emailed back the next day saying they would credit my account to include the extra 20% off. Overall, I saved $119.00 on the coat and got free shipping. The coat arrived today and I love it!

  2. I had a graet in store experience last week. The manager gave me a price adjustment on a skirt that went on sale 10 days after I received it. And she was the one who suggested to do the adjustment! I saved almost $30!

  3. Oh dear.

I've got to say, there's definitely a problem when there are 85 posts in the "looking to vent" post and only 2 in the "looking to love." I know people are more likely to write when they're dissatisfied than when everything's going okay, but this discrepancy is a little ridiculous.

  4. I just purchased the wool cashmere icon trench during the last promotion and it is gorgeous! The fit is impeccable. While I loved the camel color shown throughout various ads, I opted for the black because I found it to be more versatile. Nicely done J.Crew!

  5. I love that J Crew matches the button color to the sweater on the Jackies. I've looked at the comparable Lands End cardigan, but I do not like how they use white buttons for the light colors and dark grey for the dark ones.

  6. Well, lest I be lumped with the "forever venting crowd"... I wore my Kelsey cami in Azalea for the first time yesterday (bought it in the Spring), with the Navy Ruffled Wool-Cotton Cardi. Echoing Kristin, the buttons match up with the colour of the cami. Thumbs up. Got lots of compliments on the ruffles and the colour. If there's one thing JC does well, it's the saturated/bright colour pallette. JC, if you're listening, please do more bright colours.

  7. I am wearing my cord pencil skirt today and love the fit. Very cute. Want the other colors (I have the shadow). In case anyone is wondering on sizing, it's TTS. I vary between a 4 and 6 in J Crew. Ordered both, the 4 fit better, more shapely. The 6 still fit but became boxy and matronly looking, and my butt disappeared. Wish they hadn't taken the golden wood color off sale like they did. They actually changed it while I had it in my cart and was getting ready to check out. Humph.

  8. Well I'm loving a few things I recently received from orders:

    a) LOVE the crystal cascading necklace! No longer available on-line, but it is $85 . . .BUY THIS! I wore it constantly on a trip to Napa last weekend. Tres chic!

    b) Thrilled that the matchstick cords in Soft Ochre that I got on final sale fit perfectly. . .yay!

    c) Adoring the Bici t-shirt I got on final sale for $17. Will be so cute under my grey blazers.

    d) Digging the "Nectar" floral silk cami I ordered from factory. . .I think it is the Annalise? Regardless, the Nectar print is very pretty.

    e) Happy I received my $50 card member rewards in the mail yesterday. . .burning a hole in my pocket already. I think I'm going to splurge on the Crystal Bloom Necklace in soft yellow. I need another sweater like I need a hole in the head . . .and I think that would be a fab statement piece for the holidays.

    f) Also a big fan of the Drapey Stripe Baseball t-shirt. Wore in Napa too . . .so comfy!

Hope that helps!! Have a great day ladies!

  9. Wow, it really is amazing how little "love" there is, and how huge the "vent" section was!

  10. Though, I do feel the need to point out that we wouldn't feel the need to vent so much if we didn't LOVE the brand, you know? Isn't it the things you love the most that get to you the most too? I know that's the case for me! :)

  11. I love the shearling fatigue jacket. The cotton is soft and the sleeves are nice and long with cozy knit cuffs hidden inside. Perfect for cool weather.

  12. I must say, I LOOOVE my Cashmere v-neck cardigan. So glad I exchanged the peacock for the black. It's extremely comfortable, feels well-made, fits me pretty well (which is quite a feat, especially for Crew's large-running sizes), and I got it for $134 as opposed to the FP $168.

On the not-so-love side, the Jackie cardigan feels SO thin! I'm keeping it, because it also fit well, but whoa! It feels more like a t-shirt than a sweater, really, but will be good as a light layer.

  13. This is a sort of "conditional" love comment.

I ordered the Stadium-Cloth Peacoat in dark fatigue. Turns out that I got too small a size (4), and it pulls a bit at the shoulder and armholes. But the color is very pretty, the style is classic and refined. It's also quite substantial and warm. I sent it back to exchange for a size 6. So, IF the size 6 fits me well, than I will really love this coat.

I also got the Sweet Violet merino cardigan for my birthday. It seems to be sold out online. It's such a beautiful print. I like it a lot too.

  14. I went to the American Express event last night at the Fifth Avenue store. I did a brief write-up about it here: http://threebondstreet.com/2010/10/29/an-evening-with-j-crew/ in case anyone who couldn't go wanted to hear about it. It was a really nice event, and the gift was great - the studded leather pouch worth $68!
