J.Crew Email: New arrivals for her, in stores and online

"Thanks!" to many of you, including HeidiG, Marietta, Jenny (in this post), & Silver_Lining (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had a mini update to its website today (click here to view online). There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here).

Did anyone else notice the Silk-linen jumpsuit (Item 22736; $148.00)? {shaking head} Oh my! ;)

Lastly, J.Crew is reminding us about their latest offer for 20% on all orders of $175+ with promo code SHHH. This offer expires 2/13/10.

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  2. Nothing exciting added to the new arrivals, imo. My interest was piqued when I saw the Poplin Wednesday skirt, but then I saw how short it is...c'mon j.crew, give us a fun, FULL, knee-length a-line skirt this season! I can't wear a mini-skirt to work!

  3. I really like that top in the picture, but in the buttercream color. Boring color, yes, but completely functional under so many things for work (jackets cardi's etc) I love it with the Neopolitan cardi. Had I not blown the budget on yesterday's promo, I might have gotten it :)

  4. The Merino Larkspur cardigan is gorgeous, as is the chiffon forget me not cardigan. This is the kind of stuff I love JCrew for!

  5. AppGal,
I agree with you on the skirts. I am so glad I went overboard on skirts when JCrew used to make them well and at a good length. (I am not a big fan of pencil skirts either; I own a couple but that is enough. I prefer a 'swishy' skirt:)

  6. I have the poplin skirt in the slate color and I really like it. I'm short, 5'2" so this is actually a really great length for me. The typical jcrew 24" skirts come below my knees and I hate the way they look on me and for a short person imo it's refreshing to have some skirts this season that work for my height.

  7. Amanda,
I wish they were merino wool though. Both cotton sweater I bought from JCRew online last year came with holes in them. The Fresco had two holes and the Deco dot had one...so I am passing on the thin cotton sweaters unless these happen to be thicker. Please let me know if anyone sees these in person. Thanks.

  8. Oh crap, I desperately want both basket-print silk camis...

The jumpsuit? Yeah, I gasped when I saw it and NOT in a good way!

    ReplyDelete
  9. The wool jaspe open crewneck tee looks like a great casual spring/summer/fall top.

Adriana tanks looks promising as a silk cami that hides thicker bra straps, most of the other camis don't. Will wait for better sale though...

  10. I haven't received a new catalog, new arrivals are ok but thankfully not dying for anything (not yet anyway) and I wasn't really expecting much anyway. I do like that they used the color Carob for at least one more of the women's items.

Silk-linen jumpsuit? Honestly I'm still waiting for the Linen-silk city pant to drop in price so I can lounge in luxury! The jumpsuit is too much work; sort of like a one piece bathing suit.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Cloggsy - I'm with you on the jumpsuit. Seriously?! I see a new additional to the sale section very soon with that piece.

I am in love with the chiffon forget me not cardigan. Do the 2 color option look exactly the same to anyone else though? What am I missing?

I was so looking forward to this update but I'm pretty disappointed. And I agree with AppGal about the skirts needing to be longer. I know there are shorter girls these work for but how about they make them in 2 lengths then like pants?

  12. Ditto on the skirts - I don't care how "fashionable" they are (read they are soooo in right now) but a Mother to an impressionable daughter, looking like a hoochie momma is not my desire. At least they have some cute pencil skirts - I pre ordered the sunshine peony one and that is going to see me through spring for sure.

Another point - I get the rainy day ballet flats are cute, but does the grosgrain ribbon not defeat the point of "waterproof"?

  13. Alexis,

I thought of you when I saw the silk-linen jumpsuit!
"Oh my" is right! I laughed because I have a similar but all cotton-linen and much more classic cut item in my closet that I got on sale years ago and is too small for me. Maybe I can wear it this spring....hmm...

Love the Solid Lieutenant Jacket in Warm Beachwood. A cargo-genre jacket for the rest of us...

  14. Summerilla, I noticed that too. When I zoom in on the sweater and click each color then the shell (pink) version shows up. Beautiful sweater.

I noticed there are critter chino shorts for men....

  15. Appgal and other short skirt haters:

I found this one at Lands End Canvas, talked with Livehelp and they say all sizes are 20" long. Looks to be well-made and at 49.50 not a bad price. Only wish it had pockets.

  16. jc needs to do more 18-20 inch skirts again. I'm 5'1" and 15" is too short (not work appropriate, not warm enough, not advisable for bike or subway commuting, and yes, I always wear tights), unless I size up and wear low on the hip. 24" is too long. There are currently few skirts offered in petites.

The Wednesday skirt is 18" long, so why does it look 5-6 inches from the model's knee? Is she 6'2" or does she have it hitched to the bottom her ribcage??

Pretty much every skirt I sew is based on a jcrew item that either wasn't offered in petites, was too expensive, or was lacking some feature I desired (pockets, exposed zip, etc.). A good way to save money! :)

  17. On the Rainy Day Flats-

I purchased the PVC Tortoise Flats a year ago (??) and love them. The holes in the sides let them breathe and I like the modern look. I imagine the grosgrain bow would hold up a lot better over many days of rain than, say, a silk one. I probably wouldn't wear them in downpours, however. Just a lite rain... so cute :-)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Summer: The cardigan color looks the same, but the flowers are different colors...one blue, one pink. LOVE the pink one.

    ReplyDelete
  19. OT, I saw a picture of Katie Holmes and Suri yesterday on People.com and Suri was wearing the cashmere Citta mittens and hat. They are sold out online. I got my daughter the scarf with the same pattern and a sweater, and they are really cute. And, if what JCrew says it's true, all proceeds go back to the Nepalese women who hand knitted them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think the funniest thing about the jumpsuit is the model's face:) She is kinda like..ugh...do I have to??
Overall..Spring is going to be much better on my wallet. I am not in love with much...in fact, only a couple of key pieces. I do think the sneak peek (thanks, mommydearest) at the prints with the sunny yellow/pink colors look promising. BTW-make sure you wear sunglasses when you go near the neon rose color..it is blinding!! Like 80's, florescent...ouch!

    ReplyDelete
  21. also, with these elastic waistbands, the skirts are meant to sit higher, so 18" looks shorter than it actually is. Hiking down the "swan butt" or other more voluminous skirts, for example, would create an odd unflattering line. I prefer the more tailored look of the flat front wool minis, just with a slightly longer hem (17.5 instead of 15.5, perhaps).

    ReplyDelete
  22. sweetsy,
Love your Neon comment;) glasses are needed. I was a bit taken aback a few weekends ago when I saw the neon orange in the new tee.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ummm..... what were they thinking with this skirt????

    Lipstick gold foil pencil skirt
    $178.00 item 22949

    Me no likey at all!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Cloggsy - Oh I see it now, when I add them to my shopping cart I see the different colors in the flowers. For some reason they just all look blue. I think the pink is really pretty but I think I might go with the blue because it stands out better.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Marietta - Me no likey either on that skirt!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Love the Emilie moccasins and the Jenna cardigan!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Marietta- Oh my god ! That skirt is atrocious . Some of the jewellery is so off and ugly too. I just placed an order and used my rewards card . Picked up a few key pieces I liked and need . Somehow there isn't much to drool over; good for my wallet.

    ReplyDelete
  28. sweetsy: I had to LOL at the sunglasses comment... how long is this neon trend going to last? I want to get the Dani neon heels but the hot pink is too bright.

I'm liking some of the new cardigans but unfinished chiffon edges bring back bad memories of some of other pieces I own that are falling apart in just couple wearings. I am also staying away from thin cotton cardis as they don't hold up shape when you wash them.

I also agree with you ladies in lack of wearable skirts...they are either too short or tag bit long. I love the pencil skirts but how many casual looks can I create?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nothing that I have to have on this new rollout. I bought the poplin Wednesday skirt 2 weeks ago at the B&M in slate grey but returned it because the skirt flared out too much, making my hips look even wider. The slate grey color is sooo pretty though- gray with a slight purplish tinge.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I did expect a bigger rollout today. However I crumbled and did what I said I wouldn't!! I used the 20% off $175+ and purchased the ruffled gamine jacket, the silk brocade skirt in mint and another pair of broken-in chinos. Fortunately my $25 gift card win from Fabulous Florida Mommy softened the blow...!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I purchased the Rainy Day Flats in the neon pink to wear with a black trench coat. I'm waiting for the silk bonfire dress, ruffled rainey blazer, and blakey blouse to go on sale. Why does JCrew price everything so expensive, only to lower the price within a few weeks?

    ReplyDelete
  32. jcmama,

Yes, I agree. Even though the new cotton cardigans in pink or blue flowers is pretty the chiffon SCARES ME as well as the thin cotton. I agree with Genny. I too had holes in the same cardigans from last year.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I got so curious about the Forget-Me-Not cardigan that I ordered it promptly this morning using the SHHH code(it worked, too!) I am a bit skeptical about chiffon flowers, but I guess we'll see once I receive it. I will let you all know!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't think I can live without the Crinkle dupioni dress. I'm off to order it at the B&M for free shipping. The Forget Me Not cardi is pretty, but I'm concerned about how to launder it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. SC,
I purchased and returned the Silk Bonfire Dress. Unless you plan to wear it as a coverup it is super thin and totally see through! Yikes. Doesn't match the item description IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  36. SC,
I think some of these posts answers your question about why prices start high and then a few weeks later are lowered. Some people get curious or have to have the newest arrivals ASAP...I can wait for a sale too...I don't mind paying full price but I don't think most of JCrew's items are worth the asking price. Just my little opinion:)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I really like the new Jenna cardigan, but wish it came in more colors.

    ReplyDelete
  38. i didn't really notice that many new items. am i missing something? i sort of like the drapey wool clare skirt, but it looks like it could easily be not so flattering. i'm obsessed with the alecia peep toe platforms from the previous roll out, but cannot justify spending that amount of $ on them.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Dear J. Crew,
Please Please Please make a version of the celestial dress that's a little more everyday. And add more new arrivals soon. Pretty please?

I didn't see anything that made me salivate. Still lots of ruffles, they're growing on me, but I'd still like to see things without ruffles.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The new one shouldered lace dress is already sold out in all sizes except 4 and 6 as well :( I hate how J. Crew is doing this limited sizes thing.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I want the Adriana tank in buttercream and cobblestone. And the rainy day ballet flats in barely peach. Can't decide between the Cleo plaforms in burnished brown and the Kork-ease Bettes in the dark brown. The Kork-ease look more padded and more finished but they may be too high for me - plus I think I like the color of the Cleo's better. I may not get anything at all...it's fun to load up my cart though!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks Summer on the advice about the silk bonfire dress. I was planning on wearing it as a dress with a pair of gladiator flats. If they drop the price enough I may still buy it and be more than a little "daring."
I guess I'm not the only one tired of all the ruffles and unfinished silk hems.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lesson learned from the J.Crew email: Layering a ruffle cami over a tee makes it look like a country apron. Especially in bright pink.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love the Basket-print silk camisole! So cute. Also liking the Belted beach tunic (I tried this on in-store and liked it) and the Reese studded back-zip gladiators. Unfortunately I just placed an order yesterday so no more JC for me until next month :(

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm disappointed that the pretty watercolor scarves aren't available, I would probably have ordered one with the 20% off.

Otherwise I think that the rainy day ballets are adorable and well-priced.

Nothing else that caught my eye, waiting for the big rollout on the 22nd...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hey , what do you ladies think about the Caprice jacket no.23315 ? I thought the collar was weird and don't quite understand it. Does anyone ?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Not seeing anything I love and that makes me so saddddddddd!!! I have all these gift cards from xmas waiting to be spent!!

Wishing for less of the same in the next rollout.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Okha it's just a large collar that you can cinch up to make look all ruffley. Large collars are sometimes used instead of a hood. They can offer some extra protection from the wind and rain, as opposed to a regular, smaller collar. Just a bit of a different style. I think it looks kind of cute.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Went to the B+M today, didn't notice new arrivals

They did have floral/watercolor scarves, but to me the colors didn't look as vibrant as in the picture, still pretty though.

Also, was surprised to see the black blossoms jacket already on sale for $79.99

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think this is just one of those *mini* rollouts with a larger one to follow in a week or two.

I see a few things I'm interested in: the Adriana cami, Blakely Wrap Blouse, Jaspe' Hoodie, and Larkspur Cardigan. I doubt I'll purchase any of them right away though. I am growing very tired of items being marked down so quickly after they come out...makes me leary of purchasing anything full-price now.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I like the whisper chambray tiered skirt and I'm hoping that it's not too short on me. :) I also like the sequined starland tank in the navy black and neon quartz, although I have no idea how I'd wear them. I would not pay full price for it either - maybe on super sale I could find a way to make it work. I also like the belted beach tunic, although I prefer the light gray that is in stores.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I really like the Adriana camis...just wondering how they will actually look on...especially on those of us with a bit of a bust.

    ReplyDelete
  53. xoxo- Thanks for elaborating on the collar ! Yeah, I can place it now. Depends how one wants to wear the collar... I think I would like it flat .

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like the whisper chambray tiered skirt too. Also wondering what the Reese gladiators fit like, I'm torn between those and the Cyprus in the darker brown. Should I really order down like they say? I'm a 7.5...

I did buy the Bisbee satchel in Tawny Brown which I am so loving. Perfect size (I like oversized bags) and love wearing it messenger style too. JC made my ideal bag.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wow J.Crew... wow. I don't like anything from the new rollout. I miss the old J.Crew who would never make jumpsuits or anything neon :(

    ReplyDelete
  56. Stephanie, I'm thisclose to pulling the trigger on the Bisbee in tawny brown. Is it an orangey/terracotta brown? And do the double straps fit over your shoulder, or do you have to carry it? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hi Heather, Yes, the Bisbee is orangey/terracotta brown exactly. I am able to wear it very comfortably on my shoulder, which I do often. I do think I will have extra holes punched for the messenger style, it's a bit longer than I'd like...a bit too much butt smacking when I walk. I thought it was well worth the price, it's beautiful. If you get it I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thank you! That is exactly what I was hoping you'd say. I'm ordering it tonight! Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am intrigued with the basket-weave portico dress. Anyone seen in store? It doesn't say catalog/jcrew.com only. I think I could really like that brilliant orange color.

For my 20% off purchase - I think I am going to re-order some recent purchases to get the 20% off, since I haven't worn them yet. I think the 20% off will more than counterbalance the shipping. So it's a good chance to try out the jersey promenade gown, too!

    ReplyDelete
  60. i think we're all pretty disappointed with the new arrivals and if not with the clothes themselves then with the designers. i think it's the economy because i see alot of working looks.

    ReplyDelete
  61. My husband is the best! He just gave me an early Valentine's Day gift: the Icon Trench in Pumice and the Fringed Linen Scarf in Thistle. The coat fits beautifully and the fabric feels and looks luxurious. I feel so lucky to have both him and the coat :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Pansy - I'm at the bottom of the post and still laughing at your comment.

CASXO - What a sweet gift. Yay :-)
