Extra 30% Off Final Sale {& free shipping}

A big "thanks!" to many of you, including Katrina, Empalc, Rynetta, twiga, Anne, Jaden, tiffany rose, Ginny, Marietta, as well as Molly Darling, love2shop4bags, IRL, Growing My Piggy Bank, & Green_Dino (in this post), who let us know about another offer from J.Crew.

J.Crew is offering customers 30% off any purchase from Final Sale {no minimum} and free shipping {on $150+} with promo code EXTRA30. This offer is good through 1/27/10.

It is worthwhile to point out the following fine print of this promo: "Free shipping applies to orders of $150+ after 30% discount on sale items and before shipping, handling and taxes are added". {A bit sneaky here, but by now we are use to it.} ;)

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any sale items you are interested in getting?

  1. Yeah! Finally a % off plus free shipping! Used a gift card this AM to get a Ryder Satchel and some tees. Happy hunting everyone, FS plus a promo is a good time to get basics and items you KNOW will fit. I usually try to pick up a bag during these, I do love JC bags at these prices. Now we'll see if it ships and if I actually receive the above in my package ... JC roulette!

  2. I am happy to see the 30% off plus free shipping. However, I'd be even happier if they had waited until I got paid again. Oh, well, I really don't need more clothes. There's just a sweater I want. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that it's still around when they run another promo. :) Happy shopping, everyone!

  3. Yes! Went into B&M to buy the stone garden clutch via red phone, and was surprised and disappointed to learn that sale items do not qualify for free shipping. But at 30% I make out even better!!

  4. Snagged some super goodies for DD, like a spring jacker, the Quinn cardi, and a couple tees. I got myself the black supernova ring, the Sunday skirt in black, and the Annalise ruffle cami in whisper pink. Three cheers for % off and free ship!!! I think nabbing those tortie flats yesterday has put me on a major crewlade high, wonky orders all forgiven (if not necessarily forgotten.)

  5. Of course, I could not resist... I finally purchased the colleen rose flats, along with several embellished tees, a silk streamers cami, another pair of toothpick ankle cords, and a couple of pairs of pants for my mother. I saved $120 and I had a $100 gift card...yay!!

CheesyGoodness, I love the annalise ruffle cami. I purchased it in melon and cinnamon spice and love them both. It is one of my favorite silk camis ever! I hope you looove yours! :)

  6. Just snatched up two cashmere cardis in nice spring colors, watercolor leopard pencil skirt (hope it ships!), and a perfect fit tee! Can't resist 30% off, free ship, plus I had a gift card. I told myself I wasn't shopping until new spring arrivals - I guess there was crewlade in my coffee cup this a.m.!

  7. This is a good promo, and I REALLY want that plum pencil skirt. But I just can't bring myself to spend more when the reward cards are coming soon. Hopefully I'll get mine before the skirt sells out in my size.

  8. Was hoping for this to happen soon and I made out well this morning as I continue my Christmas gift shopping for 2010. It's always good to get DH some winter items on a great deal. The menswear has been pretty consistent in fit and quality so I'm OK to buy on final sale. With markdown and 30% off I got the flannel-lined jeans for less than half the original price and I had no trouble adding a couple other discounted items for free shipping! He has wanted these jeans for a while, has the camp pants and chinos and wears them to death so this is a great score.

  9. Oh man, this sale is really testing me. I`m on an online shopping ban but my cart is full and my mouse is hovering over the submit button. Must leave the computer. . . don`t think about J Crew. . .

  11. Has anyone seen the Tangled Treasure Necklace in person? I haven't seen this one in person but am kind of fascinated by it.

For those who like this sort of thing, does it work IRL? How's the size of the glass beads and fireballs?

    Thanks~

  12. Has anyone tried the Dream crewneck cardigan? How is the fit? And do the exposed seams look chic or cheap? Thanks!

  13. Can anyone comment the dream shawl cardigan? Is it cute on? Also, I need info on the sizing. I have read on a couple blogs that it is either TTS or running very big. I usually wear a size 10/M in tops and sweaters. TIA!

  14. I was so excited to order the silk taffeta Karyn dress with this promo- until I called CS about sizing. While I appreaciate their honesty in the sizing problems with this dress (she recommended to not order it or sizing 3 sizes up, then get it altered as they've had so many complaints on the fit)- I am so bummed! Oh well, I'm sure I'll find enough to fill a cart :) Happy shopping all!

  15. I am shopped out on J. Crew's fall and winter items. I only want one thing but I am never up at 3:00 a.m. to catch it! I won't be taking advantage of this 30% off.

I have preordered a spring item already, and I've been invited to a private preview of the rollout on Wednesday.

  16. cDoes anyone have a review of the Ryder Hobo? I've been watching it for a while, but wanted some opinions. I love big bags so I think I'll like it, but with final sale you never know! Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Meme- I have seen the tangled treasure necklace and it is very long and was just too much chunky gold for me. Overall it was just too much necklace for me (and I LOVE Jcrew chunky jewelry)

Anyone have a review of the colleen flats? I am soooo tempted.
    Thanks

  18. PennyLane: I have two of the dream shawl cardigans (navy and grey) and love them. They are intended to be worn slouchy and layered so if you are going to pair with just one layer, I think you can safely size down. I am a 8 in JC button-ups and wear a M in Jackie cardis, but bought my dream shawls in S and have been really happy with the fit.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Twiga: That's just what I needed to know. Thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. The 30% works on the perfect pencil skirts that are on promo for $98, I picked up a few for $68.60.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Twiga-

I sent you an email about the flats.

For anyone contemplating the Colleen flats, order them! They are even nicer IRL than in the pics and they run TTS.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If any one sees the felted wool skirt in black size 10 let me know, it disappeared from my shopping bag as I checked out so no sale bargains for me as it took a huge chunk out of the free shipping and nothing else I want...part of the bargain hunting:)

    ReplyDelete
  23. All the sale items I want are now sold out. boo.

    ReplyDelete
  24. PennyLane, I purchased the dream shawl cardigan in December and returned it. I'm about your size and got a medium. The fit was fine and I typically like open cardigans but this item looked lackluster on me at best. I am glad I bought it before it went on the FS.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Finally a great deal--I'm happy for those who are shopping. There isn't anything left that I absolutely, positively love-love-love and need-need-need. I find I've been getting a lot of use out of my black Frances so I picked up a black Evie for $29.99 when it popped back early yesterday--my consolation for not getting the extra 30% is that my size was already gone by the time the reduction kicked in.

Looking forward to my reward card even though it's going to be pretty small this time!

    ReplyDelete
  26. To the ladies who ordered with EXTRA20 promotion last week : I think there should be a price adjustment. Since Jcrew claims in big letters FINAL SALE on their website, we should get the actual final sale price (which is hopefully the 30% off the price mentioned in red color)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hexicon, black francis? I didn't know you were a Pixies fan! (hee, hee.)

Leslie, thanks for your thumbs up on the cami! I was bummed the cinnamon was sold out in my size, that was the prettiest of the colors but for twenty bucks I am perfectly happy with pink! I wear last year's Lydia a fair bunch so I'm happy to have a similar option.

    ReplyDelete
  28. PennyLane - IRL pic of the dream shawl is in this post on my blog. I agree that you can size down to S if you want a less slouchy/relaxed fit.

And for those that haven't seen it, I have a comprehensive list of links to posts with irl pics of J Crew final sale items in this post. Some of the posts have links to other bloggers w/irl pics.

  29. LaurenPhD.
I ordered and returned the Dream Crewneck Cardigan in the beautiful hydrangea color because I thought the exposed seams looked cheap.

The back seam down the middle of the back is exposed so it was a major turn-off for me. I knew wearing it anywhere I'd feel more like I was wearing a ratty looking sweater more than I would feel I was hip and stylish. (No offense to anyone who loves this sweater!!)

When I returned it to the b&m, it was snatched up by another customer waiting in line. She was not an internet shopper (imagine that) so she was blown away by the color. Not sure she noticed the seams. It didn't sit on the counter for longer than two minutes.

Not sure if this helps you any... :)

I've made so many hits to your blog the past two weeks looking at the Dream Shawl! I've been tempted to get it in the heather camel color in an extra small. When my store had it, I made a mental note not to 'fall' for it because it appeared to run so huge. Your pic's help reinforce my resolve not to get it because it runs so big.

So far I've only found pic's on your blog and TresTrippy's blog.

Thanks, they're so helpful and saved me quite a few times!

    ReplyDelete
  31. IRl - Glad the pics help. They save me from final sale mistakes as well. *lol* I'm reminded that some things really doesn't look that great on me, no matter the low price.

  32. @lauren PHD: i have the dream crewneck cardi and i really like it.
the fit is TTS(maybe a little boxy).
i like the exposed seams,i think it looks hip.
i own the grey and it is a medium grey.

  34. LaurenPhD: I ordered the dream crewneck cardigan a long while back in the jalapeno color because it was such a nice, rich looking green. I was aware of the seams (which they mention but don't highlight in the photos at all) so when I received it, I wasn't disappointed. That being said, I told myself it was going to be a more casual sweater so I was okay with it, but I would be annoyed at getting this in a more "formal" color, such as the lighter colors, thinking it was suitable for a work wardrobe. I'm not quite sure what JC was thinking with the exposed seams, but they obviously got me.

Fit was slightly more generous than the Jackie's so I ordered one size down from my Jackie size. I do recall an SA saying to me, if you want a sweater to last, get the Dream knit, if you adore the colors, get the cashmere - as they are richer. I found her comment interesting...

I called the JC VIP line and asked about a price adjustment for the two perfect fit l/s tees I purchased a few days ago and they gave it to me, but made it sound like it was reeeeeaaaallly a huge favor they were doing. Honestly, I'm saving the company money on shipping and processing if they just credit me my flippin' $10+, but I was prepared to re-order if I had to. Especially, since the items were not marked final sale....

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anyone know if J. Crew is enforcing final sale on items that aren't listed as final sale on their individual pages? There are a couple of dresses I'm looking at, but they're online only, so I can't try them on first and don't want to get stuck with something that doesn't fit ...

    ReplyDelete
  36. anyone know when the website will update w/ new spring items?

  37. Question: I was looking at the "shadow" color of the heritage chinos online... What color is shadow? Is it navy blue? Is it closer to a black/gray color? Help please!

    ReplyDelete
  38. bentley65 - Shadow is closer to navy, imo. Some irl pics:

    beaded city tee cardi here

    beaded Florence tee here

The color tone varies based on the fabric.

  39. Picked up my 2nd Stadium-cloth Friday coat, a few shirts, and the lavender peacoat. A few items weren't marked "final" sale so hopefully I'll be able to return them if the sizes come back irregular. Lately the sizing has been way erratic, even with the size and style.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I noticed the tie front sweater also has a back seam. I deleted it from my wish list/shopping cart as I think it makes the sweater cheap looking and could be uncomfortable even! No thanks. Don't care for that look at all.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Michelle: I was wondering the same thing. I'd been looking at the Betty dress and jacquard pencil skirt for a while, but was hesitant to pull the trigger as I was unsure of the fit. I placed my order by phone last night, and not only did the CS rep honor the 30% off/FS offer, but she also agreed to note that the items would be returnable for credit. It's worth a try - good luck!

(Special thanks to gigiofca for advising a JCA newbie on this purchase!!!)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ok.. so gigiofca showed pictures of shirts that were the "shadow" color that look like more of a navy blue and kcost17 said that it was more like a dark gray.... Anyone else have any input about the pants and what color they might be?

    ReplyDelete
  43. bentley65 - if you hold shadow next to navy, then you can tell that it is not navy. But if you hold it next to gray, it looks navy. I know this doesn't help much. IMO, you won't be able to wear it with navy, but you can wear it as a replacement for navy. I actually bought it to replace navy chinos that are too big. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  44. Loving the promo, maybe too much, hahah!

Wish someone had a sneak peek of the spring catalog...

  47. I have the shadow favorite fit chinos and the color is a true navy IMO. I don't see any gray undertones at all.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I hate to further confuse things, but my favorite fit chinos in shadow are definitely dark grey. However, I have purchased tops in the color, listed as shadow, that were clearly more navy with little grey undertones. I'm guessing it depends on the item and the fabric...

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have a shadow top, and I thought it was navy when I bought it. I think it can be described as a faded navy.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Who knew a color could be so confusing!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jbird, maybe you're thinking of dark fog rather than shadow? I also have the dark fog chinos, and they're definitely grey.

  52. Does anyone have the Twyla tank? It looks lovely, except for the back shot, which makes it look like a crumpled rag. Appreciate any advice!

  54. Placed two orders this morning... and need to stop! ;-)

Can anyone comment on the fit of Marlene crisscross platform heels? Do platform heels fit tighter or TTS? TIA!

Shoes are always tricky when it's final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ok, well maybe this will help... If you have the chinos in shadow, what color shoes do you wear them with? What color shirts? At least that might give more of an idea...

    ReplyDelete
  56. bentley65 - Very good input from mathteacher & jbird. My point about the fabrics is that the dye reads different and is dependent on the fabric. From what I recall of the shadow chinos, they read as deep, dusty navy. If I were getting them, I'd be using them as a navy staple, not a grey one.

    ReplyDelete
  57. jcrewphd - I've only tried one pair of platform heels, the Charlie ruffled suede platform mary janes, and I thought they definitely ran small and probably because of the platform. I could not get my foot in them at all. I got a comment on one of my polyvore sets agreeing they ran small. Am trying a second pair 1/2 size up but don't have them yet to tell you for sure if that would work. HTH a little ...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jcrewphd, I have 3 pairs of the marlene in 5.5, they fit true to size and very comfy. I actually wore the black ones out tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have a couple items in shadow and I think of it as the same color as a beautiful piece of slate stone. Its a grayie dark blue - lovely, rich color that does look different depending on the fabric. I have worn black, grey and dark navy shoes with it. I think in the spring it will fabulous with yellow and white.

    ReplyDelete
  60. @ Jeanna

Come to think of it, you may be right about the chinos. I think I do have dark fog- I'm sorry for adding to the confusion!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Not to add to the confusion I have the Shadow Matchstick cords and they are a charcoal grey color with a tint of blue that I find hard to match tops with. I do not wear them as much as my graphite ones.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Another question about the "Shadow" color: does it read the same in leather as it does in fabric? I bought the Ryder in Shadow thinking it will be a bluish dark gray, to wear w/navy and gray. I WANT it to be more blue. Am I wrong and getting stuck w another FS lemon?

    ReplyDelete
  63. A couple of JCAs have had a question about returns of times bought during FS that are not marked FS. According to the SA at my local B&M , if it does not pop up in red"Final Sale" at check out and is not marked final sale on the bag or invoice when it arrives, you should be able to return the item. I have done this several times lately.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm looking at the harbor pea coat in antique stone. Can anyone say whether it is more of a gray or more of a brown color? Does it have any pink undertones? Are the pockets on the pea coat affected by the buttons/holes at all?

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I wear my silver flats or mocs with the shadow chinos, but I don't have navy or gray shoes. I haven't tried black shoes with them and probably wouldn't as I'm wearing them as if they are (a pure) navy. As far as tops, I wear whatever color I would wear with navy. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oops, meant to mention that my sister and I saw Mary Stuart Masterson in our local JC yesterday. She was at the register, but I have no idea what she was buying. According to my ps, her husband works on Army Wives (which shoots some in Charleston) and she comes when she's in town. Evidently, Dana Delaney also shops there, although I've never seen her.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Zoom in on the back view of the belted cardigan on the model...is that a split pants seam?

    ReplyDelete
  68. silver lining
Yes! It's an open seam in the pants. It's the same pants modeled with the Dream Crewneck Cardigan (w/the exposed seams).

Maybe it's the next trend? lol

Thankfully when you go to the pants page (Stretch flannel élan trouser), they used a model who could actually fit in the pants.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thanks for your input Tiffany rose and Carrie!

Does anyone have a pair of Marlene platforms in black 7.5 willing to sell? I missed out on ebay recently.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I went for it - got the Crosby coat (hope its as cute as folks say), del pelato shift dress, and some tees.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I wore my shadow top with a white skirt on the 4th of July for a patriotic look (without the red). I wore it with silver flip flops. My shadow top would not look good black. I usually wear it with white or khaki bottoms, or faded jeans.

    ReplyDelete
  72. ok, so would brown shoes work with shadow colored pants?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Has anyone tried the Pippa patent peep toes? How do they fit? Are they similar to the Lulus? I'd like to order them but shoes are difficult on final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  74. dickfiddy --> I'd say the antique stone has more of a brown undertone, definitely not grey and I never read it as pink. It's a lovely colour, IMO, quite warm. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Great promo! I couldn't pass up a few items I had on my sale wishlist. Ordered another pencil skirt-pearl grey, silk streamers cami in wild blackberyy, the breeze belted cardi, and the pippa peep toes in dusty lilac. I really wanted the darker lilac color but missed out on them in my size.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I've got my finger on the trigger for the plaza coat but I can't decide! This is what sucks about final sale. I've never tried on the plaza coat in a store (is it even available?) and I'm not sure if I want to spend $200+ for a non-returnable item. It's a good price for the coat (I guess) but I've heard mixed reviews about this year's plaza coat. For one, it's only 10% cashmere vs more from previous versions. I'm so conflicted! Any suggestions anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  77. ldc - I sized down in the Pippa peep toes. I'm normally a 6.5, but a 6 in these fit better. I found them to run a bit big.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Clicquot - thank you for the advice on antique stone. I really like the color but if it is a warm brown then I know it will not work for me. I've tried to force it in the past but I now know that cool colors are my best friend. I think I'll go with the dried orchid instead.

    Have a wonderful day!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Thanks for the info on the pippas, Marietta! Unfortunately the color I wanted isn't available in the half size smaller!!! :(

    ReplyDelete
  80. bentley 65 -- Now that you've asked about shoes, I think the shadow chinos might be a tough color to match with tops and shoes. I have navy chinos and I find it challenging to find shoes that look good with them. I usually wear them in the spring and summer with silver flats.

charlotte -- is the plaza coat actually "final" sale? I was eyeing up the Lady Day and it doesn't come up as Final Sale anywhere on my "mock order." You might be able to return it if it doesn't work out.

I bought a Lady Day coat last year in a 6 and it just fits over a single layer. If I'm wearing 2 layers, or I try to sit in the car, I can't breathe. I'm trying to decide if I should order an 8.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Re: working with the Shadow color.

Navy is a classic color to work into your wardrobe but it can be a challenge for your shoes and accessores. If you are comfortable with color you can try navy pants/skirts/dresses with shoes in fuschia, burgundy, red, wine, purple, gray, green, turqoise and even orange or brown if the color is deep. I treat navy as a neutral like black or gray but because it is usually a dark shade I prefer rich shoe colors if I'm not matching with a navy shoe, which can be really difficult with pants since the two will meet at your feet and if they aren't an exact match it is noticeable, but not a faux pas IMO.

If you choose a vibrant pair of shoes with your navy pants, you don't need to match the top with your footwear, but choose a complementary tone or go with another neutral. If you wear dark green shoes then pair with another warm shade on top such as ivory, yellow or mint. It may sound like a bit much but experiment to see what looks good with your navy pieces. Remember that the vibrant colors of the 80's are on the way back so you can really ramp it up with colorful shoes and look right on trend. Of course once spring hits then spectators are a good alternative too.

Re: 30% off FS - I'm waiting for just one popback on but I'm not hopeful. I would likely have to stay up all night to get it but I'm not quite so dedicated. I'll be trolling the Weekly Exchange or ebay later most likely. Excellent promo though, will be scoping out the restock until it ends.

  83. I finally caved in at the last moment and got the plaza w/ thinsulate in ivory. I was leaning towards the camel as the safer choice but my hubby encouraged me to get the ivory. It's also not marked as FS (ends in $.50) so I can return it if it doesn't work. But I'm really hoping that it works!

OT: Has anyone noticed whether there's been a change in the JC size chart? I thought size 0 matched up with 36" hips but now it's size 2 that corresponds with 36" hips. I've ordered size 0 chinos and skirts but for the cords, I followed the size chart and ordered a size 2 (size 26) which fits exactly.

  86. Rats--where are the new arrivals online? Not seeing anything new. Hopefully they will update today?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Not seeing a FS update this morning. I think this happened one of the mornings during the last EXTRA20. I usually try to wait until the end of FS after watching how fast things move the days before.

  89. ITA with Gigi regarding the various dye colors. It depends a lot on the fabric. I've held "matching" items side by side and the colors were totally different. It makes it really difficult to know what you're buying when you order online.

I haven't ordered anything from the 30% off sale and I probably won't. Talbots has an additional 50% off clearance prices, and I went nuts, both online and in store. I love their shoes and I bought 6 pairs for around $25 a pair. Plus a couple pairs of cords in unusual colors, an adorable pink and grey tweed jacket, a couple silk scarves, a couple shirts, a couple tees, a couple cardis...

    ReplyDelete
  90. I took advantage of the free shipping to order a pair of wingtip shoes. Saves me a trip to the b&m red phone!

    ReplyDelete
  91. JCK - what size do you normally wear? I am concerned about Lady Day sizing. I typically wear a 4, but ordered a 6 after reading numerous reviews of narrow shoulders. Perhaps I need to go up to an 8??

    ReplyDelete
  92. Dinamariko,

I think you are fine if you go up one size in the Lady Day coat. The only other J.Crew jacket I have is a 6 and it fits well. I usually wear a small in sweaters and tees, but size down in blouses to a 2 or 4. My size 6 Lady Day coat is extremely fitted, and I would prefer a little more room in my winter coat.
