  2. Is anyone else having a problem with their shopping cart? Over the past few weeks, mine has been emptied several times when I leave items in there overnight! If anyone has a remedy, I'd love to know!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Kate -- my shopping bag was empty this morning too! What's up with that?

I caved and placed an order, not that the free shipping really helps all that much. I'm annoyed with myself for waiting so long, actually, because 3 of the 4 items I want are now wait-listed. Boo.

  4. Has anyone bought this year's peacoat? Is it TTS? I'm trying to decide whether to order a 0 or 2. TIA!

  5. Just waiting for a decent update??? When was the last one??? Hasn't been for a few days now.

  6. I normally would be tempted by these codes, but I haven't been inspired by a rollout since September. Thanks to some very helpful posts over the weekend, I got a pair of matchstick cords from the B&M for $29.99 and a couple of accessories with FS. If things don't change, my buying may be limited to basics on sale. I didn't see anything I liked in the spring preview. Like others on the blogroll, I may be looking to Boden for spring. Any comments on Boden's sizing, which looks confusing? I have almost been sized out of JC due to vanity sizing. TIA for any advice.

  7. I wear a size 8 in the US and a 12 in UK Boden. I really like Boden but if you are a small size like 0 Boden will likely not work for you as you have to size up for the UK sizing.

  8. I KNEW IT!!! I knew when I got the $150 code that there was one for less. They are seriously ticking me off now.

I don't know what the deal with empty shopping carts is - I have had it happen to me randomly, and then sometimes it seems like my cart stays the same for a while. At least Nordstrom lets you know when they are about to dump your cart!

    ReplyDelete
  9. My cart has dumped once in the past 3 weeks. So it just seems to be a random thing....it is frustrating....now for a no minimum code. I would order!

  10. Ridiculous Crewcuts item. #24062
$16.50 for some ponytails holders that look like a pain to use. I showed my daughter and she laughed....

  11. Enabling: My local ON is doing 50% off clearance prices of womens'. I got a decent cotton jersey dress for $3.25 and a modal/cotton top, very Anthro-esque, for $.99. A somewhat surly SA told me it could be running for awhile since they're trying to get rid of sale stuff. They also had a two for fifteen promo on the wos. ringspun cotton tees, some had cute embroidery. I'd have gotten a couple, but paying one dollar for a shirt put me off paying much more, especially without knowing the quality.

Gap online codes for 20% off, regular price merchandise only: FORYOU and FRIEND.

I'm not sure why carts are dumping! It's happened to me a couple times lately, but I haven't had much in them so I thought maybe they sold out. Genny, I'm with you on waiting for an update. Every morning it's the same old, same old.

  12. OT: Has anyone seen the Stardust pencil skirt IRL.

    Thanks!

  13. Cory,
I'm, usually a 2 (somtimes a 4 in skirts), and between a xs/s in tops in J Crew, and the 10 in Boden is just a touch on the big side for me. I could probably get away with an 8 in pants, and shirts for sure.
Although it seems many of their pants have a higher rise. Maybe its a UK thing. Definately not the hip riding, crack berring pants I seem to always find here.
More and more, I've been liking what Boden has to offer lately. They remind me of the "old" J Crew. Classic, preppy piecies that still manage to be unique. And color! Always such lovely colors! And it usually seems that there are promotions for free shipping and free returns. That alone makes me want to shop there more.

  15. CheesyGoodness,

Great ON buys! Love when I get those deals:) Thanks for the heads up:)

    ReplyDelete
  16. egyptomaniac,

Boden's free shipping and free returns makes shopping there fun as well. They get me with those promos and they often have % off along with the above. Nice to feel you can try their clothes with no fees attached and 9/10 I keep all if not part of my order. Have never returned it all.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I just got my rewards card in the mail!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I ended up scoring free shipping on my order over the weekend because jc has messed up a previous order! I got a good deal too :)

I have noticed however that they have less sale stuff than ever before. I wish they had more!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ooh, i hope my reward card gets here before the shipping code expires.

Lauren S., check out the pea coat post on the Wardrobe Review blog (link on JCA blogroll). It looks like the pea coat runs large.

  20. Has anyone heard anything about getting a $25 gift card, just for having the credit card???

    ReplyDelete
  21. Stacy-saw it last week in gunmetal. Gorgeous. Think I'll get it even with no firm party plans:). Ran TTS on me. I have a pic of it on me if you want to see. Anything else you want to know?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Will wait for my rewards card to arrive to place an order. I will mostly buy things for my daughter (Santa is being diligent this year), nothing other than that really tempts be this season.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Corry, I've bought a lot of Boden and I'm a size 0/2 US. I find their clothes run a bit big, especially the pants, in which I always order an 8 and have to belt/shorten. I also buy an 8 in coats, jackets, and skirts.

With shirts and sweaters, it's kindof all over the map (clingier shirts look nice in an 8; looser ones look good in 10 or 12). I've found the best thing to do is read the reviews for particular items. They're usually really helpful when it comes to sizing issues.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lauren S -->

I tried on the peacoat (it's really nice, btw) and a size 2 fit me best. I'm still thinking about it, maybe if it goes on sale I'll consider...

For a bit of context, this is how I generally fit JC stuff:

    Fitted blazers: size 4
Unstructured blazers: size 2 (I'm not very busty)
    Perfect shirts: size 2

    HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  25. And since Boden nearly always offers free ship/free return, I will often buy 2 sizes if I'm unsure about sizing, since I can return the one that doesn't fit at no cost.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Cliquot and Hexicon thanks for your help vis a vis the peacoat!

  27. Agree Boden has the charm and colors that used to make J.Crew so alluring (and sadly has been lacking especially these days - what a dud fall collection!). My only beef with Boden is they don't cater to petites - I swooned over the Parisienne jacket, and tried it in two sizes to no avail - it was overwhelming on my frame. Quel dommage.

    ReplyDelete
  28. stacy, i have the stardust skirt in gunmetal, and i have to say--it's quite lovely! it runs fairly TTS, however doesn't quite hug the body as much as a traditional pencil skirt. it's a fun skirt at a pretty good price point--great party/holiday piece..i actually plan to wear mine even for a casual dinner out w/tights and t-shirt/cardi.
my only caveat--it seems slightly delicate--i can easily see a sequin coming loose if i'm not careful!

    ReplyDelete
  29. OMG, where has Boden been all my life? Never heard about it until today from you JCAs...not that I really need another clothing obsession ;)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Boden is cute and charming. I ordered their 1960's jacket in black during the summer in an 8. It is a touch too big in the chest, but it still works. Planning on trying out their shoes next. I love their free shipping and returns in addition to their 10% on orders (no minimum either). That is the way to do business, J. Crew!

    ReplyDelete
  31. OT --

If an item is wait-listed, does JC charge your credit card at the time of the order (i.e. today) or not until the item ships?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Cliquot,
they'll authorize the amount from the credit card(means that amount is deducted from your available credit), and charge you when they ship it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've recently started shopping at Boden too -- their skirts are so cute and so original. I own 4-5 skirts and a jacket and I get compliments every time I wear them. The quality is really good too!

Like Wendy said, they always have coupons (with free returns) and their customer service has been top notch (I had to return a sale item and didn't realize their return policy was 7 days on sale items and they waived it for me).

I wish they had the colors that J. Crew offers in their sweaters, but it's still a very nice store.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Boden also has excellent customer service. I remember one time I ordered a shirt that showed as available, but then was on backorder. They gave me a $10 credit for the inconvenience, and I didn't have to even ask (it wouldn't even have occured to me to do so!). And I'll occasionally get $20 vouchers (no limit) from them, too.

The clothes are good quality, too. But like someone else mentioned, if you like petite sizes, you're out of luck.

  35. mommydearest & stefanie

thanks for the info. i have a couple holiday parties coming up and they range from work related to just with friends- so i need something versatile. the skirt looks wonderful and i just wanted to check on the quality.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree with some of the comments re Boden's high quality and wonderful customer service. I don't buy a lot from them as I find many of their styles a bit on the young side for this 40-something lady. However, I recently bought (at 20% off with free shipping and free returns) the lovely Preppy Knitted Blazer (Item No. WK517) in Almond Melange, and I am thrilled with it. If you're looking for a slightly casual sweater with chic jacket styling, I highly recommend this piece. I get lots of compliments on it. As for J. Crew -- how about a sale update, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bodens customer service it FANTASTIC. Also consistent! (unlike other companies). I have found that their clothes work very well for my age range of late 30's/early 40's. Having worked in the UK you see all ages--mainly people in their mid 30's and 40's and 50's wearing Boden. I did not see any 20somethings wearing it while in the UK but that is just my personal experience.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I recently requested a Boden catalog. I got it within a few days and it came with a special offer. I have requested a JCrew catalog over a month ago and I still have NOTHING. I tried again 5 days ago and still NOTHING.

So if you want great customer service, colorful well made clothes, AND a paper catalog to look at go with Boden!

    ReplyDelete
  39. A lot of you seem to be interested in Boden today, so I will put this out there...I have a lot of in real life photos of some of their more recent items. There will be more to come in the next few weeks. (Esp. of fall items that I have been able to wear now that it is getting colder...)

I happen to be a HUGE fan of Boden, and find their company and their owner, Johnnie Boden, to be a lot of fun (their website is not only a joy to use, there is a lot to amuse, as well). I used to think of them as J. Crew's older and funkier sister, but nowadays, not so much. Right now, from what we have seen from both spring previews, I would have a hard time even imagining them being from the same family! I think J. Crew is DEFINITELY marketing itself as a hip, young, edgy kind of clothing company. Unfortunately for J. Crew, many of its biggest fans are those of us who liked J. Crew for what made it a bit different...a preppy clothing company that sometimes didn't take itself too seriously (I think J. Crew is taking itself way TOO seriously lately...yikes on so many levels). That doesn't mean J. Crew has clothing that is awful, but it does mean that some of their current looks may be a bit much for those of us who expect something else...and most of us will find other companies, like Boden, to fulfill our desire for new clothing.

Oh, and if this helps any of you, I wear a UK size 10 on top and a 12 or 14 on bottom, and that is fairly consistent with my J. Crew sizes, US 6 or 8 on top and a 8 or 10 on bottom.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Not to sound like a spoiled little girl, but I'm tired of free shipping freebies. J.Crew doles them out like water. I get it that it's better than nothing, but it doesn't urge me to buy any more than usual.

    I want a % discount.

  41. Hey, Genny, I'm glad to hear that ladies in their 30s/40s in the UK are wearing Boden. I often worry that the overall look at Boden is too youngish for me, but I DO love the pretty prints and wonderful fabrics. So, maybe I'll wear my Boden with pride and stop wondering if I'm too old for them! Just to echo what dinagideon said about the joy of visiting their website, etc. -- so true! Their catalog is fun to peruse, and ordering on the web-site is super easy. Dina, thanks for posting so many IRL pics of your pretty Boden outfits -- this is so helpful!

    ReplyDelete
  42. JKW,
Yes, Genny is right wear your Boden with pride. You are right on age target for them IMO and from what I have seen-- Lots of Moms in their late 30's and 40's picking up kids from the schools in my area wear their skirts.

  43. PS
Had a bad customer service experience today at JCRew. Just leaves me not wanting to shop there. I got a defective item and they are taking it back but I am sick of receiving defective items from them! What is going on with their quality control???

Anyone else have some recent issues like that to share? I am almost to the point when I get a box and I am not excited anymore to open it thinking "What is going to be wrong now???" That seems sad.

    ReplyDelete
  44. nojcrewinjapan,
I think I get what you are saying...I would like some new promos for ALL (not a select few) like free shipping no minimum for 2-3 days. You want a percent off. Just something different to mix it up. Right?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Summer - yes, I've had very similar issues with quality when receiving items, especially their jewelry. I've received jewelry with missing stones, beads, cut ribbons, the list goes on and on. But CS is always pleasant to talk with over the phone and set up a return for me. You just have to wonder if their quality control is looking at this stuff before they ship it out.

  47. Agree with so many other JCAs who love the color and charm of Boden! A little whimsy, without nude-colored shredded chiffon and stretched-out slub cotton everywhere. Cmon J. Crew, give us a little more of what the brand used to stand for! Dina nailed it ... they are taking themselves too seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Like others in this thread I received my rewards card today. Last one as I will no longer be using the J.Crew Card but a nice parting gift.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Why do you think the sale updates have been so insignificant the past couple weeks? There is literally nothing in the sale section and I have been waiting for a few things to pop back. Do you think it is focus on Spring 2010, the reduced inventory we have heard about? Wondering. Would take advantage of another free ship but my cart got dumped and nothing is left!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm on the Boden bandwagon, too! The reviews feature is what really seals the deal for me as far as the website goes, I think it's a must as far as online shopping goes. The quality is great on the items I've gotten and they wear WELL! Easy care clothes that look fresh and fit great. My favorite general thing is most items are available in several solids and a print or two, and prints will be available in several items, so you don't feel restricted as much with other retailers. Many times with JC I've loved a print on a dress, but it wasn't cut for larger chests, so I've just been cut out of the game. I loved the look of the spring preview stripe dress, but I know that the molded cup top will never make it on me. If it was Boden, there would maybe be a skirt option or a shift available too. I have found turnaround time is a bit slow on shipping/returns, but it's free, and comes from another continent so just be patient!

Oh, and the website feature of showing amount of stock is great, too. They don't give numbers, but a ballpark, but really helpful nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ruffles - honestly, I think there hasn't been a decent update because there are a lot of people out there with free shipping on their accounts. I am curious to see the size of the update on Nov. 2, the day after the free shipping ends.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Boden is offering 'buy one get one for $1'. The company will honor any purchase and the $1 offer will be applied to the least expensive item. Offer ends November 30th. Free shipping and returns. Received their catalog today.

    ReplyDelete
  53. lilac cupcake - I am also curious to see if there will be a massive update on 11/2 after the FS ends.

nojcrewinjapan - I am not whining. I just want a % off, too. So J Crew, if you are reading, please send me a private code. A real one. Not something advertised en masse. 20% is cool. I can work that. And by 11/1, would be a-mazing. My email is gigiofca at gmail, k? K.
