J.Crew's {new & lovely} Lexi Tote In Marie Claire!

J.Crew is featured in the latest Marie Claire Magazine. To view the image larger, click here or on the image itself.

The item featured is J.Crew's Lexi Tote (Item 18262; $325.00). The website describes the bag as: "Everyone is loving this bag (it's Jenna's favorite of the season), and it's easy to see why: the stonewashed Italian leather has an incredibly soft handfeel. Carefully designed with special touches like a removable, convertible leather strap (you can wear it as a messenger bag, over your shoulder or carry it as a tote) and couture-inspired tassels to give it that can't-live-without-it status".

I won't lie, I love this bag in the images and can't wait to see it in person! {gush} I love that this bag has multiple ways to be worn. :)

On an interesting side note, this bag is not easily (aka: directly) found on the website- since it's not featured under their handbags link (click here). Yup, this is one of those hidden items at JCrew.com. (I was thinking that this might explain why some eBay resellers are able to sell new arrivals way before the rest of us even see them online.) The {wonderful} blog, A Bigger Closet, had a great post called "J.Crew's Hidden New Fall Arrivals" about some of these hidden new arrivals. :)

What are your thoughts on the Lexi Tote? Do you like the style of the bag (can be used as a messenger bag or tote)? What are your thoughts on hidden new arrivals (are you a fan of "the hunt" or annoyed by the seek & find)?

  1. I've been eyeing this bag for a while, but I'm not ready to pay so much for a bag. But on the other hand, I would pretty much wear it for the rest of my life, it's that great IMO!

  2. I think the bags are gorgeous and I'm pleased that finally they are getting some "normal" sized bags in stock. The colors are a great neutral and they seem to have plenty of practical aspects to the design. I have both the tote and the satchel on my wishlist (unless the campo comes back in a smaller size)!

  3. Hi:
I just ordered a Lexi tote by the red phone in the store since I imagined it would be a popular item- they had none to look at in person in our B&M and probably never will. Marie Claire had a typo- its really 325$. I ordered the shadow color. I am just hoping the particulars like leather quality and construction are OK IRL. Will update when I see it. It could be too small when worn as cross body.

  4. I do like this tote! I agree with you Alexis, this is due to the colors and the variety of uses. I love that you can use it several ways! Though, I still think it may be a bit large for my everyday use.

  5. The hunt of the hidden items is kind of annoying. Why can't they just let us drool over these things openly?

Any "tricks" for finding the hidden items on the website?

  8. This is a gorgeous bag. I wish the hw on the amethyst version was silver. The gold just doesn't do it for me.

I plan to order the Lexi clutch in silver. Wish that hw was also silver but it's pretty small so I think I can live with it. Adds a bit of contrast if nothing else.

  9. magpie - I usually search for "a" and it finds quite a few of the hidden items (as well as all the non-hidden items). It's a good place to start

  11. I've seen some "foldover" bags in the past seasons but I haven't liked the style that much. I also don't know how I feel about the tassels on the Lexi-- usually not a big fan. I do like how you can see the different way of wearing it on the J. Crew website, I wish they'd do a shot of the side/inside with other bags too!

On the other hand, like Jules, I LOOOOOOOOVE the Campo messenger. It is mine with the first sale.

  14. Out of the three lexis I would go for the tote if I could afford it. I would go for the clutch if it weren't metallic. I like the colors and if the leather isn't too heavy, I could see using the bags very often. Combating urge to pull out credit card with idea of shelling $325 for a bag.... :O! the clutch has a convertible strap...oh, so nice...

  15. Like the Lexi, but prefer the shape of the Campo better. But not sure either will be mine as I just purchased the Large Gallery Hobo in Black and really love it. I also saw the Campo in the Michigan Avenue store in Chicago and it looked terribly beat up -lots of scratches etc... and it was just on display... the description says they will buff out, but who has time to groom their purse all the time!

  16. New to the J. Crew images-- you can see interior shots of the Lexi bags-- satchel, tote, and clutch. A great move on their part but bad news for my credit card: the Lexi satchel has moved up on my list...

Only own one J. Crew bag, a patent leather tote from last year... think it's time to update. :)

  17. I received the Lexi tote in shadow and its a very good quality bag for the price. Absolutely cannot think of a reason to return it! The leather is soft and buttery. The proportions are good, strap is long enough to be a real cross body. The handles are sewn on well, tassels are good quality. Its a great every-day bag- I am not sure how it will wear, I am hard on bags, but a good repair shop can re-rivet a strap or sew on a handle. This bag is every bit as good as my Italian Balenciaga bag (which is a lot more $).
