  1. City Trench for $198 @ Madewell vs Travel Trench for $178 @ JCrew.

I like the Travel Trench better although it's nice they give you a longer option with the City Trench.

Back on topic! What good is a sale when there aren't any B&M's near you, & you can't view merchandise on the web. Madewell has some cute items. Too bad we can't even get a catalog! I still don't see where their price$ are le$$ than JCrew.

  3. Torn Jeans . . . Wasn't that a 80s - 90s fad?

  4. Their strategy confuses me. How long does it take to set up a website? You would think they would want one ASAP, especially before Christmas. From a marketing point of view, Madewell makes no sense?

  5. I went to Madewell last night to try on a pair of their bootlegger jeans. I like that their jeans come in a 34" inch length. Ever since JCrew lengthened their longs to 36" and kept their regulars at 33" I haven't bought any of their pants.

  6. I do not live near any Madewell at all, but I do like their style and website. I had read in a magazine that they would have an onlne store by the end of 2008 (obviously that didn't happen) so I sent CS an email asking if they woudl ever do online. The rep I talked to said they were planning on opening their online store in the spring. I hope it really happens!

  7. I live near the Madewell in Dallas and have been past it several times but I never really get the urge to go in and look. Just not that into their styles.

  8. Roxy: AMEN!!! How many people need a 36" inseam? It's WAY too long, and I'm tall with long legs. I've resorted to either buying the suiting pants in regular and then letting the hem down, or hemming the Talls in other pants. Major PITA.

  9. They really need a Madewell in downtown SF. There are about a million disaffected art students with superiority complexes that would love the Madewell style.

  10. I need a 36" inseam! :(

I can wear 35" with flats, but any heel whatsoever requires longer jeans. I'm not even that tall! I'm 5'8" with disproportionally long legs. I wish JCrew's jeans fit me...they're cheaper than Citizens!

  11. Anon at 1:14: I feel for you. It's only been in the past 5 years or so that many companies have made long inseams/tall sizes on a regular basis. I used to have to just deal with pants being too short. What a pain. I'm glad there are 36" inseams out there for all those long legged ladies like yourself! I just wish there was a halfway point they could offer between 33" and 36". Anyway, it seems like 33" is probably way too long for alot of people. I wish they'd do 30", 32", 34" and 36", or something.

  12. The Madewell website was all set to go until the BIG JCrew online crash this summer. They had the option of either putting out a half-assed Madewell site or waiting 6 or more moths for a much more shoppable, functionable website.

Also, for those who think Madewell isn't their style, you should really go in a check it out. While everything is certainly not going to be your style, there are some pretty nice pieces in there that mix well with a more typically preppy JCrew wardrobe. And especially in Dallas, the Madewell girls are super sweet! :)

  13. Don't let the youthful storefront fool ya. They have great basics as does jcrew for any age. After Christmas I picked up a pair of jeans and one of their long boyfriend cardi sweaters for around 15.00 each after the additional 40% off was taken off. Not bad considering the original price. Their jeans fit great and lasts through the washes. Give the jeans a chance.
