J.Crew Offers Additional 20% Off Final Sale

As mentioned yesterday (refer here), J.Crew is offering an additional 20% off their final sale with promo code EXTRA20. This offer expires 1/18/09.

What is interesting is the email noted that the additional 20% off applies to both online and in store purchases of final sale items. However, most brick and mortar (B&M) stores are actually offering an additional 30% off. Just something to keep in mind when you are considering whether to purchase online or in their stores. :)

Have you been taking advantage of this offer already? Are you planning to take advantage of this offer soon? If you already have, what did you get? {I like shopping vicariously through others!} ;) If you are not planning to take advantage of this offer, are you planning to visit a store instead, or hold out altogether? :)

  1. I bought a bunch of stuff, two different orders--but not because of the discount, but because I was afraid the stuff I wanted would sell out...but I was disappointed it was the 30% off.

I now think the free shipping code with my educator discount would have been better than the 20% off code---but I wasn't thinking.

I have been to a number of stores, but EVERYTHING is really, really picked over. Not worth my time right now.

  2. i got some cords, i love the way their pants fit me. jcrew is the only store where i can find clothes i dont need to try on! thanks for the tip.

here's a tip for you too, if you shop at jcrew.com via ebates you can get an additional 2% off your purchase (will come as a rebate!). if you sign up via that link they'll put $5 in your account to start out. it's legit, i'm not spamming!

  3. I am eyeing the Claudine in plum and may pull the trigger with this- not that the discount is sooo fab, but i have a wedding to go to in 2 months that I might wear it for. Does anyone have any feedback on the sizing? I have the silk Sophia in an 8 and it fits perfectly, but I'm nervous on the Claudine and am trying to decide if I should order a 10. Thanks!

  4. Hi fellow JCAs, has anyone been successful in returning a final sale item? I have been rejected before by my local B&M so would I have more of a chance if I call customer service to put a note on my order first even after receiving the item? I wouldn’t consider doing this if I had known that the sweater jacket (Enamel-button long sweater-jacket) I eagerly ordered in XS is more than 2x larger than the regular XS in cardigans and it cost me $140. :(

    ReplyDelete
  5. If you call CS and explain that it's much bigger than other XS sweaters you own from J. Crew, you're far more likely to have success. Ask them to put a note on your file that you're allowed to return it, and then just write on the return form that so and so at X date and time told you a note would be put on your account. Good luck!

  6. Anon, tell them that is a defective merchandise or the size tag must be a mistake.

  8. OT: I have a question for fellow aficionadas/dos.
I live in the UK so before a visit I buy JC items and have them shipped to my mothers house. As you know there were some great sales with TURKEY and HOHOHO and I took advantage of them, well got carried away really Anyway, I just realized that the items I bought with TURKEY will be out of my 60 day return once I get back to the US. Then I thought of a way around having to take store credit instead of my credit card being refunded. If I return the items I don't want that I bought with the TURKEY promo, get the store credit then return the items that I want to keep from the HOHOHO order and re-buy them with my TURKEY credit, will that work? Will they let me do that? It seems legal. What are your thoughts?

  9. I visited ZARA in SFC today. Some pumps were sold for 39.99 and boots were just $59.99. Some jackets were $19 and Jeans were only $9.00. H&M sold pumps for just $15 and sales items are just $5-$20 (+ buy two and get one free for all final sales items).I know their quality and style are different from J.Crew, but many retailers offered about 70% off or more. After I saw their deep discounts, J.Crew’s 20% off isn’t enough to open my wallet…

  10. I'm considering the velvet ecole jacket (now that the olive is back) but it's over 80F here in the mornings so I'm trying to decide whether I should start looking at the Spring selection instead since I probably won't be able to wear velvet until next winter...

  11. UPDATED SALES! SO MANY SWEATERS AND PURSES AND CASHMERE UPDATED WITH LOWER SALE PRICES!

    tissue turtle neck 9.99
    cashmere 59.99
    cambridge cambleknits 29.99
    satin clutch 24.99

    etc.

    *sqeals!

  12. I went to sales like this that JCrew has in the 90's. It was not push and shove. I went in the evenings. Lots of "junk" or damaged goods. Just boxes to dig through.

If it waS crowded and push and shove I would not go. Saving a few $ is not worth it or maybe I am too old at 30! I am over that kind of shopping.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I bought three items with the code yesterday...all were low in inventory, so we'll see if it ships!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Lee,

Thanks for listing a few items that are now lower.
I bought a tissue turtleneck yesterday when they were still $19.99 but everything else I bought 4 other items are long gone so I guess that is that. Should I try for a price adjustment, anyone have luck with that recently?

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Head's up fellow JCA's. Many of the items on sale have been reduced further - you need to click thru to see the new price - duchess dot is 69.99 now, shimmer peacock is 59.99 - looks like JC has reduced many items - so if there is something you're really interested in check it out. I think with the further reductions and the 20% off they'll sell quite a bit with this promotion.

  16. Portland Merino Cardigan:
Just a note about the Portland, I machine washed mine on the 'handwash' cycle & layed flat to dry. It did not shrink badly, but I can tell it has been washed. Just an fyi for anyone wondering how it handles washing. I would say it handled washing (vs recommended dry cleaning) very well.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Can anyone comment on the fit of the Merino Miranda jacket? I have been tempted to buy it for a while, but am curious how it runs. I think I remember someone on JCA mentioning at one point that it ran pretty big?

I'd appreciate any info you can give me. TIA!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. J Crew will sell alot of items, however there will be alot of cancelled orders due to low inventory. It is not worth taking a chance on final sale items, when some of them could have flaws because they have been returned or worn.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I haven't used this promotion...there are still a couple of sale items I would like to get, but the quantities are still high, so I will probably wait for a higher discount.

    ReplyDelete
  20. At first I was not going to use this promo., but after an hour (or two!) of site perusal I ended up ordering:
    -2 tartines ($19.99 ea)
-kayla (way more reasonable @ 19.99 & 20% off than when it debuted at $68!)
    -Tissue chiffon-rosette cami 9.99!
    -another Smock-stitch tissue tank
-and finally some mens sweats & a crewcuts top for my son (his dresser & closet already overfloweth...but all crewcuts sale never f/p.)

So for $82.33 ($100.52 after shipping & tax), not a bad deal for 7 basics. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I just called and got 2 price adjustments on an ecole jacket and simone cardigan that I ordered this past week. I saved another $20! cool beans
FYI- the CS rep stated they will price adjust up to 2 weeks previous purchase

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh I got some stuff online yesterday. i guess again I missed out!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't know if this is a well-know fact around JCA, but I found out that if you click on the "As Seen In Catalog" links, sometimes you can get to items that you can't find either on the regualr price pages or the sale price page. I did it, and I got another rose belt and the bobble necklace (niether of which I could find in the sale section).

    ReplyDelete
  24. ladolcevita -- are those items really reduced that far down! the duchess is still $140 and the peacock skirt is still $99 for me, even when i click through :/

    ReplyDelete
  25. Christina-

Yes the Miranda runs a little big, but not sure I would size down. I got it for Christmas and LOVE IT

  26. I used the code for a few tissue turtlenecks in colors that had been sold out for awhile (dark eggplant and light spearmint!) and it just covered my shipping. Once I use my student discount, it will be three tees for under $28. Not bad considering that one is $39.50 to begin with. All in all, I'm happy. 20% or free shipping is always better than nothing! :)

P.S. When I placed my order this morning, a BizRate survey popped up. Has anyone else had this happen recently?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Pulled the trigger and got the Peacock shimmer jacket (waiting a day paid off it went from $89 to $69 +20% off) and 2 tissue tees for $9.99 + 20%

  28. Twiga: I am normally a Medium in J Crew tops (with the exception of most of the cashmere, and anything that's blousey, then I take a small) - I would assume I should still go with the medium in the Miranda?

Thanks so much for your help!

  32. Anyone else have the Simone Cardigan? I have been waiting for this to go down in price, and was curious how it holds up after cleaning. If I remember correctly, I have not heard the best things about the dream sweaters in general.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I ordered the Dream Simone Cardigan in Navy. Admired when it first came out in the stores. Loved FFM's outfits she put together with it. Can't wait to get!

    ReplyDelete
  34. What a bogus offer for Credit Card holders. I feel really duped. Yesterday, I ordered stuff and today it is all lower price. Better not to have early access to the sale b/c it got better the next day. I am furious with JCrew. What a racket.

    ReplyDelete
  35. What time are they restocking the sale lately? Does anyone know? I can't seem to figure it out, but maybe it's because I'm not on the site as much anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Dream Sweaters: I have three dream sweaters new from this year & have noticed they pill but nothing like what I imagined after reading about them. (Not that other poster's comments are inaccurate but for me, the pilling is not so bad you should not by the beautiful, comfy dream sweaters). I also washed them on the 'handwash' cycle, layed flat to dry & they look just fine. I am glad I purchased them & would buy more dream fabric. Just my two cents.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Christina- regarding the Merino Miranda Jacket- I had to size down. I normally wear a medium and I had to exchange it for a small. Call Jcrew for the measurements just in case. Its a really cute sweater jacket - looks great with jeans.

  38. I just snagged a charcoal berry trim Astrid - so excited! I hope I like it as much as everyone else seems to. :)

  39. J - Most mornings they have been updating right around 8am. There was not an update this morning though. I have been checking while doing other things, and no changes thus far.

  40. I bought a merino t-neck for 19.99 in avacado, the birds nest ring in ivory ($40 after discount), oh and a full-price glass bead necklace in glazed pecan because I couldn't hold out anymore - they just won't go on sale. I think the t-neck and the necklace are going be fab together.

  41. Anony@9:43

there was an update today...just very early. I live in the UK so I saw it happen as I am 6 hours a head of East Coast times. I have noticed this happening about 1-2 times a week.

  42. Anyone comment on fit of serengeti skinny belt?? Not sure whether small or medium to wear this with jeans/cords. This one comes xsmall, small and I think the the gold/pewter/also patent skinny belts were just sm, med.-I could be wrong on that.

With these, I found that I needed a small to wear with cardis at my waist and a medium to wear with matchsticks jeans and cords. Any suggestions on fit?

    ReplyDelete
  43. omg i can't believe the carrie went down to 99$! i've been eyeing the ivory and now its gone in size 0 =( has anyone seen the ivory carrie in the stores? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Has anyone tried the wool flannel wrap dress? It is down to $39.99. It comes up under suiting, but it looks low cut, so I'm not sure if it is work-appropriate? (I'm an attorney, so I have to go super-conservative)

    ReplyDelete
  45. also the shimmer peacock jacket...i'm so close to getting it but having not seen the pattern IRL...i'm a little worried that it might be a bit too much...i know that lots of JCAs loved the skirt...but what about the jacket? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Bekah, I have that dress and am also an attorney, and love it. I wear it, however, with various cami tops underneath, especially the white silk ruffles--it's such a good host for anything, very comfortable, and takes many of the JCrew jackets. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  47. Serengeti belt:

I purchased you a couple weeks ago in a large and you are way to big for me. Won't even fit around my hips let alone my waist (I can pull it off). I reordered in a medium but have not received yet. For reference, I am size 8-10. HTH

  48. okay i caved in and got the maggie double serge! i hope its as great as i've been hearing about!

  49. Two questions for you ladies...please help if you can :)

First, I'm eying the vintage trouser cords in ECRU. I love their trouser cords, but haven't seen this color in person. Is it an off-white, or does it have more beige undertones?

Second, I'm also eying the dark trouser jean in clean rinse wash (item #13235) but noticed that there were A LOT of them left...is there a reason for this? Is there something wrong with them? I have wanted some trouser jeans for a while, so if anyone has some feedback on this pair, I'd appreciate it!

    TIA!!!

  50. They just updated the site. Gosh,it keeps changing right before my eyes. Why do I get caught up in this frenzy? Does anyone else's pulse and respirations go up when they see the prices drop by $20? I need to get back on my meds.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Gwen: did you get a price adjustment for the extra 20% off or did they give you the adjustment because the sale price was reduced further?
    thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Appgal,

I have the matchstick cords in ecru and I would consider it more beige than off-white.

    ReplyDelete
  53. They're defintely refreshing stock at various times. The # of items per category has went back up since I last checked this a.m.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ok, I was holding out all morning waiting for them to update the website. I read the post about the site having been updated early this morning so I assumed I missed it, waited a little longer but ended up pulling the trigger, not wanting a few of the items to be sold out, and literally RIGHT after they updated the site again. AND with more markdowns. I would have ordered a couple more items.. sigh.

Anyway... I ordered the berry-trim dress in bright peacock, the Boucle tweed short scarf coat (bright berry), and tawny olive satin t-strap heels.. taking a chance on the FS seeing how I have never tried any of these on. Does anyone know if these shoes fit TTS? Any thoughts about the berry-trim dress, or the short-scarf coat?

I would have liked a berry-trim astrid in charcol or the purple.. Maybe one of these will pop back up in the next couple days. Also hoping a dream argyle cardi and cashmere argyle cardi in M will pop up at some point.. we'll see!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. They're going to have another sale...they have to. The inventory is increasing before my eyes and I haven't returned all my returns yet...I'm sure I'm not the only one.

    ReplyDelete
  56. i would also love a review of the shimmer peacock jacket. looks like it might be a fun piece, but i am so on the fence.

    ReplyDelete
  60. hee hee, I just got a 'stay tuned'...damn, why do I even care. I'm NOT buying anything...

    ReplyDelete
  61. AppGal,

I personally think the cords in Ecru looked more off-white. Definately not white, though. I think they are so cute, but I'm too short (i.e. my hems always skim the floor) and I thought they would be more stress than it was worth.

    HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Personally, I think it's ridiculous that those of us that have a J Crew card get an email yesterday about the 20% off....and then when the general public gets the 20% off code, they lower the prices significantly on a lot of items. Makes me glad I didn't buy anything last night during their "card holder only" promo!

That being said, I did snag another Cashmere Femme sweater right after the site uploaded this morning. Mine from last week was canceled, so hopefully this one will ship.

    ReplyDelete
  63. damn site is down. i had 21 items too.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Matchstick Cord in Sea Salt are off-white and I don't believe they came in ecru

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree Heather, I am POed as all the sweaters I ordered went down $20 each making my order $100 less today! They won't do anything either. FURIOUS!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Are any of you still having problems with orders placed this past weekend? I have one order from last Thursday that has not shipped, yet CS has a UPS number for it. It hasn't been charged to my credit card and UPS doesn't show it in their system.

I have another from Saturday that hasn't shipped. Meanwhile, two orders since then have shipped. Does anyone know what's going on? I was told to "wait until next Monday" until I file a claim with UPS. I don't think this is a UPS problem!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Question about the Vita cami...I am usually a 2 in the camis (I take a 4 in the victoria, simply because the 2 was very tight in the hip area) but was wondering if I could get away with the 4.

Can anyone who has it describe the fit of the vita cami?

    TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ugh, more "technical difficulties" on the website.

    ReplyDelete
  69. When will J Crew get a site that works regardless of how many people are on it? LOL It seems that whenever they have any type of promotion that's worth using, the site crashes intermitently.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Suilove-
21 items. Hmmm....good. That makes me feel better aout my 14! Hahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  71. FYI - The sale section is restocked.

    ReplyDelete
  72. One is never enough. I also have a UPS tracking number that does not work for the order I placed two days ago. I am calling CS later on this and will share.

Similar events happened to me before and it turned out the orders were cancelled. I do not believe that is UPS' problem either. I was persistent enough to have them re-shipped me the item immediately without waiting for 7 or 10 days.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Some sweaters did drop as much as $20 since earlier this a.m. It's funny though, the price reduction seems to be on the questionable sweaters that you hesitate to buy because you're wondering: "Is that going to be itchy?", etc. The best of the best haven't changed - although I could be wrong since I didn't actually order anything over $19.99! :)

Also, they don't have everything out in the sale section. As said earlier, you have to search on items - they're probably there even though they are not in the FS section.

    ReplyDelete
  74. JaneEsq.:
I usually take a 2 in J Crew camis (a 0 might fit me, but I don't want it to look super snug/fitted). A size 2 is a nice tailored look on me most of the time. That said, I took a 0 in the Vita cami. It is blousy and hung away from my body (as on the model) without being snug even at the hips. I'd say it runs a bit big. Hope that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Okay,so I just emailed CS to see about getting a price adjustment on items that I purchased yesterday. I feel like I got duped since I took advantage of the 20% yesterday. How does J Crew expect cardholder loyalty when they pull stuff like this. Frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Those who are upset that they ordered yesterday and prices went down today--that sucks. For future remember that markdowns are usually taken Weds. morning so don't place orders on Tuesdays!

    ReplyDelete
  77. JaneEsq: I also have a 0 in the Vita Cami and think it runs large, as well. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm tempted to go with the 0 in the vita cami, but I am rather pear shaped and worry about it being impossibly tight around the hips.

I wanted the grey color but I guess I will have to go for the navy in a size 2.

    Thanks for the advice!

    ReplyDelete
  79. P.S. Does anyone find it aggravating that the Pembridge Dot skirt is $139.99 still? Even with the 20% off I feel like thats a ridiculous price for a simple skirt.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Wow - some of the new camis and the ingrid peep toes are in sale section as are the alessia peep toes which I purchased for $125 last week. I'm pretty sure I can get a PA on those.

    ReplyDelete
  81. OMG the bubble necklace went down...still, its a no go for me because I already bought 3 things today...($150)

    ReplyDelete
  82. leaderboys, [elaine], & anon,
thanks for the feedback on the ecru trouser cords. seems like a fairly versatile colors.

if anyone has feedback on the trouser jeans (item# 13532) let me know! still not sure if i want to buy...great price, but if they're that cheap and they have a ton in stock, i get suspicious that something is wrong with them.

    ReplyDelete
  83. IS that true of the internet-markdowns on wed? I know the stores.

    ReplyDelete
  84. the site is down ... again. not that I should be buying anything right now, anyway. :/

    ReplyDelete
  85. ... ok, now the site is back up. I don't trust it, though!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Does anybody know if the Bria cami runs TTS, or big? I am a 34C, usually take a size 2 or 4P in their camis, but I'm wondering if the fit is blousy and I should size down to a 0. Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  87. One is Never Enough,

I have been buying chino shorts when they pop up in my size. I have an order from Saturday that has not shipped, 1 item cancelled, and two that were placed on Sunday and Monday that have shipped (each was for only 1 item). I called CS and they said that my items would ship and be to me within the 4-7 business days they state on the website, which would be the 20th. I have read other posts that talk about orders with cancelled items taking longer than others because they hold off to see if the item is in stock or not. I hope that helps.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Anyone who has the Cherie style top. I noticed the model wears the collar folded down, but can you wear the collar up, almost like a cowlneck, or does it fall down?

    ReplyDelete
  89. All I can say is that I hope our fellow JCA (I FORGOT WHO IT IS NOW) got the Sonia python Clutch after it popped back up today:)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Kate-not at all. Not tall, not the right fabric to stay up.

    ReplyDelete
  91. JCrew has really made me mad...how can they dangle a carrot to card holders one day and lower prices the next day for regular customers! I am furious and am sending them an email and cancelling my card ASAP!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Marietta:
Re Bria Cami: I am usually a 6 or 8 in JC tops and tried on the 6 because it was only in my local store thanks to a return. I needed the 8 because I found it to run smaller than other JC camis in the chest. Not so much the bust, but rather the chest/shoulders area and that is my smallest area. Also, it was not as blousy as some recent camis (Elizabeth, Zoey, Lydia), so I think going with your "bigger" size would be okay. The fabric is gorgeous IRL!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Has anyone seen the Double Serge Pencil skirt at thier B&M? I have decided that I really need that skirt now...
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  94. Well, I just called CS about a few items that I purchased yesterday, that have since been further reduced in price today, and they cannot do a price adjustment. But, a few of the items are sold out today in my size/color, so I'm glad that I at least got them. The savings would have been about $16, but I am not going to quibble over it.... it's a chance I took, after all.

    ReplyDelete
  95. anon @ 11:52:
I totally feel you! I had an email exchange with CS service yesterday (started over the fact that I did not receive the "cardholder" email yesterday) and it frustrated me so much that I am also canceling my card.

I am thankful I didn't order anything yesterday (thanks to being so angry about the email exchange), because I would have been even more furious to see prices drop today!

  97. Thanks so much, Smarty! I will go with the 2 and keep my fingers crossed. I would have liked to get a 4P, but for some reason the petites are still priced at $59.99, whereas the regulars are $39.99.

SJs Mommy - I saw a bunch of the persimmon double serge at the Rockefellar Center store last Friday (1/9), as well as a handful of black. I am wearing the bronzed ochre today, I love this skirt!

  98. I have the francine skirt in bright persimmon so I really want the bronzed ochre in the double serge.

  107. So I bit the bullet again and ordered a few things that dropped in price today:

    Satin fleur clutch
    Bria cami
    Swiss dot Bobbie sundress

With discount and shipping, came out to $115. I think I am done, unless the Golden Roses pencil skirt magically appears in a size 2.

  109. I don't understand why some of you say CS won't do a price adjustment?? I just called this morning for mine and there were NO problems...why would they do for some and not for others? Especially since most of your orders were placed yesterday like mine...
They did my adjustment on the difference between the price I paid and the new price today plus the 20% off

  111. ladolcevita- I bought and returned the peacock jacket. This is really a holiday piece in my opinion and I received it late, just after new years. The fit was like the Maggie jackets but I found it too shiney. I bought a 12 and it fit well (I'm a 34DD) but it just wasn't flattering on me. You can really see all the colors of the different metallic threads which is really pretty if it works for you.

  112. BIG NEWS for CUFF BRACELET OWNERS:
Okay, if you own these you know that the gorgeous jeweled piece on top, never stays facing out. It always flips over and all you see most of the time is the back of the bracelet..plain enamel Can you say top heavy?

After saying to myself (numerous times as I have 3 of these) ARGH-I wish I could glue this thing down to my wrist! I thought of an solution--and it worked pretty well! I put on one of those charity rubber bracelets and then put on the cuff and voila-it is staying on top! Okay-the rubber bracelet shows a tiny bit on occasion but great improvement!! I hope you are pleased with my suggestion:)

  114. BUG PIN: I was the one looking for the Sonia python (ordered 2x and cancelled) - I saw the drop down and tried to add to cart and then the site crashed (and I got that dreaded error "note" of we'll be back or "even best sites need some work". I called immediately and the CS told me it was SOLD OUT. AGAIN.

It was that darn red text by the time it came up. So, sorry if my attempt at Sonia clutch brought down the site for anyone. I did save a jpg of the thing so I can admire it, should I never get my hands on one ; )

  115. Gwen,

As others have mentioned (in postings on other topics) and as I have found to be true when placing my own orders, it seems to be luck of the draw on which CS rep you happen to get. Some will allow me to apply my educator's discount with free shipping, some won't . Some will allow me to do both of these and use additional codes (eg, Ho, Ho, Ho code), and some won't. I've had better luck getting CS reps to apply multiple discounts when I place orders Mon-Fri, 8-5. I think outside of those hours/days, J.Crew outsources the orders to work-from-home reps.

Just because something did/did not work for you, doesn't mean that other posters are lying or that they were trying to do something "wrong" when they say that something did/did not work for them.

I think the main thing that people need to realize is that which CS rep you get on the phone really does make a huge difference.

  119. hi everyone, i am wondering if anyone has any info about the fit of the carrie coat? is it TTS? any weird things going on (like the cocoon shaped marie coat?). i am average size but really busty so fit in the shoulders and chest is really important. thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  120. For anyone who bought the nicky skirt, it is now 59.50. the extra 20% might work on top since it has in the past for other "promo" items.

I was just at B&M, still extra 30% off w/ new spring markdowns in sale sections--lots of portland cardigans, short sleeve cotton cardigans, kya camis.

  121. smarty, yes i'm in SF. I was planning on shipping out of state to a friend ; ) I haven't even been checking the site for it since it was sooo long gone - happily perusing other accessories when I saw it this morning for a fleeting moment.

I received the dusty rose spectator peep toes that had been sold out and impossible to find, and so I'm in general happy with the crew & leaning towards what the first Fortune Cookie told me LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  122. 1:04--I sized down one size from the more fitted JC coats for the carrie. I am a D cup and it fit well. if you are bigger than a D you might want to take your regular size. nothing weird going on like w/ the marie. really good price right now.

  130. Anonymous at 1:04 re Carrie:

I did not size down in the Carrie coat. Nor did I size down in the other two coats I own, Lillie and Harriet (nor in the Marie, which I returned). I'm a size 4 in tops, a size 6 on the bottom & have consistently been a size 4 in coats. I tried the Carrie on in a size 6 (store was out of size 4) & it was not overly big on me. It's a very pretty coat and a magnificent price! HTH

  131. I purchased the Shimmer peacock last night at $90, and today it's down to $70. I was so angry that they dropped the prices after yesterday's pre-sale to cardholders! But I managed to get a great sales associate, and she credited me the difference. SO... $275 to $56 isn't so bad! I can't wait to see it in person! 134. Anonymous at 1:04, I think the Carrie fits a touch big. If you order your regular size you'll probably get away with it, but it may be a little loose. It is pretty unfitted through the chest and waist. It has small arm holes though - they seem to ride up a wee bit in the armpits. Still, its a lovely coat and I like mine a lot.

J Crew coat sizing is soooo strange. I got a plaza coat in my usual size and it was MASSIVE. Like a maternity coat! But when I ordered the Double CLoth Lady, I ordered my usual size and could not even breath it it! Carrie is somewhere between the extremes!

    ReplyDelete
  135. 1:23, i got a 14 in the carrie, but wear a 16 in JC suit jackets and a 16 in last year's sybil coat. The 14 was perfect whereas the 16 was too baggy. the wool is substantial, good for 30-40 degree weather.

  136. Carrie Coat

I'm not sure how you describe 'lightweight wool'. The description of the Carrie is "wool/cashmere blend", same as the Harriet. The material is very soft but kind of "flat". It is/was not as lofty (for lack of a better word) as I anticipated. I've never purchased a wool/cashmere coat before so I don't know how 'nice' the material gets but I am satisfied w/Harriet's material & I would've bought the Carrie if they had my size.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Oh also, Carrie coat has wide-ish sleeves at the bottom - just thought I'd mention that in case it is significant to you.

Mine is camel, but the ivory is sooo nice too!

  139. Cass:

Thanks so much for the info! I have been WAITING for that sweater to get marked down, I can't wait to get to my store and try it on!

    ReplyDelete
  140. IRL, yes, I should have mentioned this - the carrie coat was more lightweight than I thought it would be. It isn't hearty, but I live in the -30 degrees of Western Canada, and as long as I'm driving and just dashing in and out of the car I am fine. But I would describe it as a cross between a fall and a winter coat, weight wise. I don't think it is lined...? Can't remember and am not wearing it today! But the cashmere/wool blend is DREAMY soft. It is very rich and luxurious feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Ok I am sure I have discussed my battles with the "Mocking Maggie" jacket on this blog. The size 4 camel looked horrible on me, as much as I wanted to love it. Other JCAs rave about this piece. So I got to thinking, perhaps it was the size/color choice and not the Maggie itself that was mocking me?

So I am staring at the sale page and there is a size 2 and a petite 4 available. If I were to take the plunge, what size should I go with?
The problem with the size 4 was that it was a)a bit too long and b) looked shapeless on me on top and was baggy around the armpit area.

Can anyone give me some feedback on Maggie sizing? FYI I am 5'4" about 128 with a 34 B. I take a 2 in all the astrids, a 4 in the ecole jackets, and a 2 in most camis. I am very shortwaisted.

Any info would be greeeeatly appreciated.

    TIA!

  144. JaneEsq,

DEFINTELY get the 4P. If you are shortwaisted, it will be so flattering on you! I am also 5'4 and short waisted, but with a larger bust than you, and the petite sizing in this coat was DIVINE compared to the regular!!!!

  145. carrie coat, irl, and 1:08:

thanks for all the info! i am super paranoid about buying a final sale item that will end up not fitting. i have never seen them in any of my stores so haven't tried one on.

i am looking for a light to mid weight wool, so i think the carrie would be a good choice. i'm also hoping the coat ends up mid thigh or so. i'm a DD- for me that means an 8 in most tops and a 10 in most coats (i prefer a bit of extra room since i layer a lot), so i think i'm gonna go with a 10 in the carrie...

  152. To those wondering about the wool-cashmere coats:

I have a Dani coat in black from last year, and I ordered a Harriet in heather acorn this year. I found that the fabric was heavier and softer on the Dani. I figured it would be the same material, but maybe the different colors have somewhat different weights? That seems strange. Or maybe they've changed the fabric? Did anyone else find this?

I still love my Harriet, but I was a little disappointed.

  153. I'd love some dress recommendations. I'm going to be in Turkey this summer for two weeks (June, temps around 80F), and dresses are perfect since they pack small and I can wear them dressed up or down. The problem is Turkey itself: it's a Muslim country, and although secular, the dress can't be too revealing or inappropriate to wear into mosques (e.g. I need to have shoulders covered). Any suggestions? TIA! You ladies are amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  154. ^ The last time I was in turkey, shoulders and knees did need to be covered. However, it was permissible to wear a shawl over the shoulders if you have a sleeveless dress.

Call: 866-393-2090. I was just told that J Crew offers discounts on anything that has price dropped in past 7 days. She wouldn't give me the add'l 20% off but said to remember that if I ever see something I've bought drop in price within 7 days to call. I just got adjustments on 2 FS sweaters that went down $20 each (so obviously does NOT only apply to full price items). Good luck!

  161. Interesting about the new "regular" prices...they also changed the "regular" price of the yellow sequin flapper dress from $900 to $700.

As for the Grenada cami, I still think $160 is ridiculous for a cami. You can get the whole Grenada print dress for $198.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I emailed CS this AM about getting a price adjustment on 2 items I ordered yesterday (about a $40 difference). Just got the reply that they would give me the adjustment this one time as a courtesy.

  163. Someone else mentioned this above but I didn't catch it till just now - the Kya Camis have been marked down too! I just ordered the Sand Floral Kya Cami (marked down from $110 to $69.99+20% discount) I was thrilled to see that price drop! I'd been watching it since it showed up on the site a few weeks ago...

    ReplyDelete
  164. The wool cashmere this year is definitely a different blend than in years past. It has a lot less cashmere and isn't nearly as soft. :(

I agree that $160 is still too much to pay for the Grenada cami. They still haven't sufficiently differentiated it from the giraffe cami to justify the extra $40 (and that's assuming for the sake of argument that $120 is a justifiable price for the giraffe cami, which I don't think it is).

JaneEsq -- I'm partial to the heather bright berry Maggie. I'm thinking of ordering it for myself (I have the camel and black Maggies), but that would violate my 6 months off rule. Then again, my birthday is coming up soon, and my family is always asking for suggestions. :) I think you could definitely wear it to work. If I get it, I plan to. Here are some ideas of what to do with it:
    From FFM:
    * Look 1
    * Look 2
    From me:
    * Work dressy 1
    * Work dressy 2
    * Work casual
    * Casual
But if you go with the yellow, it's also a gorgeous color. I'd just go with the one you think you'll end up wearing more. Good luck!

  165. After reading all the comments about price adjustments for old orders, I called the CS, as I had placed four orders in the last week. 166. Smarty - I have the spectator rose peep toes too -they are so pretty. If you have the sketchbook roses Belle skirt they look really pretty with that. I actually put that skirt with the ivory distressed metallic crest tee and the heather charcoal stripe sequin cashmere cardigan - I tend to b adventurous and not too matchy matchy - I actually got a lot of compliments with this combo, and if is warm enough the Rose peep toes look pretty as a statement with this outfit. They also go with the taffeta rugby skirt in the pink/coral from Summer - I wear a simple long sleeve T with that - I have pale apricot color one. Anyway, I know these are not whole 'sets' but hope they help :)

  167. Here's my sizing tip. I feel like the models must always wear the smallest size. If the item looks tight on the model, I order my usual size (4 on top, 6 on bottom). If it looks loose on the model, I size down. I have been wrong on dresses, but it works on everything else.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I was starting to freak out because I saw that the Caroline flats and the Haley cardigan dropped in price from yesterday to today. If I had waited to order those two items today I would have saved an additional $40.

With my blood pressure rising, I stood up and walked around the room (I am a teacher and have only used the discount once--shocking, I know). I said to myself (out loud, too), "Let's get a reality check." So I totalled up all my items with their pre-sale cost (full price) and then again with the sale price and 20% I got over both days. And let's say, I stopped the freak-out. I bought thirteen items for a total of $568. That averages out to a mere $44 per item. If I had paid full price it would have been a staggering $1979, which is an average of $152 per item. Needless to say...I feel much better. Although $40 is a lot of savings, I can't allow that to eat at me...

I am inspired by the clothing I purchase at J. Crew and have been since I started buying things there back in 1990! If $40 is the price to pay for sheer pleasure of feeling confident at my current size 8/10/12 (varies with the piece), then so be it!

I am not writing this to judge anyone...but just to maybe help others who are concerned that they bought something one day and the price dropped the next.

I think I would only truly freak out if it were more money (like $150 total). Again, I obviously understand why any money saved is important, but I thought reading what helped me get through the "shakes" of "over-paying" would help others!

Have a great (and fashionable) day!

    ReplyDelete

I wish I got the Jamie bag for as cheap as some of you in the past! Didn't someone say they got one for $37? That's great! I'm glad I got the chance to order it.

  195. Janet:
The topic was discussed at length in this post. Overall, I think the policy is much like other JCrew policies - completely, 100% inconsistent. It seems to depend on who you speak to, no other rhyme or reason to it. HTH!

  196. Well Janet I asked my PS and here's what she said:

    Hi Ashley,

I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Our general policy is in fact to only allow one coupon (promotion) per order. In this case that would mean that we would only be able to honor your student discount of %15 or the other percentage discount that you have. The student discount can be used in-store with proper student photo id, over the phone with proper email ending in .edu. If you wanted to place the order on the internet there is no way of you adding the discount, however, if you called within an hour or two, we can have the discount added to the order, and the discount would be reflected as a credit once the order shipped.

I hope this answers your questions, and if you have anything else, please feel free to ask!

So that's that. But fyi, if you call CS you can get away with Free shipping discounts as well as your educator/student one. (Assuming you get CS that lets you.) But as Smarty said, JCrew CS reps are very inconsistent. Good luck! HTH.

  197. While I'm practicing "curbing consumerism", I did talk myself into the Alessia Mary Janes in honey glaze. I called the order in with the 20% discount and asked the CSR to please denote a return for store credit in case the item didn't fit - which she did so gladly. I ordered TTS, so I hope I'm not hosed!

I did give myself a small pat on the back for not succumbing to a velvet ecole, which are steals for $50 and $60...maybe if there is a bigger discount I'll bite, but for now, I'm good!

  198. I asked this a while back but i think the question got lost in the thread. Has anyone bought or tried on the Dark Trouser Jean in Clean Rinse? (Item #13532) Am wondering how they fit...how much flare at the bottom leg, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

  199. J Crew Adorer, I thought the lydia in my normal size was too big, and I have broad shoulders and a C chest. It might be too billowy since it's an a-line cut blouse. HTH
