J.Crew Emails A Reminder About Free Shipping

J.Crew sent another email today reminding us about the promo offer of free shipping until 9/17/08 with codes SEPTEMBER ($100 min) and AUTUMN ($150 min).

Incidentally, the sale section has been replenished with a lot more merchandise. It is definitely worth checking out. :)

Is it just me or have they been sending a lot more of these "reminders" than past promotions? Do you have a feeling that J.Crew will send another email tomorrow, reminding us that it is the last day for the promo too? ;)

  1. STOP THE PRESSES--I will be SHOCKED if the items showing up on the sale--are ACTUALLY THERE!! I am not just saying that to bitch about J crew again--I am saying it because last time this happened-- where there was a BUNCH of new stuff (old items) back on the sale I called and asked about each and every item and there weren't ANY!

The message here is CALL in and ask the CSR to check each item for stock. I am OVER it--not doing it anymore as the stuff simply isn't there MOST of the time. If it does show being there in limited supply--it then gets canceled off your order later. BUYER BEWARE!

  2. Apparently my navy Lisa dress that has been canceled 3 times has finally been shipped...we'll see!

  3. I too have noticed the increase in emails!

Also, final sale - will it ever end?!

    ReplyDelete
  4. alexis - you hit the nail on the head! They have been sending a lot of these reminders lately, and it's a little annoying! not to be snarky, but how about you ship my package from last week jcrew, instead of sending out more emails??? just a thought...:)

amy - I hope the dress really comes!

  5. I got this email, too...it does seem like the reminder emails have increased. I still don't trust the sale section, though. I agree with covert5 that you should CALL before ordering anything to make sure it is REALLY there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. kater: Oh so true! Why send out emails to get more people to make purchases when they haven't shipped packages to customers who ordered last week? Not good, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  7. no kidding - I just got the email, so I rummaged through the sale section again only to find that most of the things I clicked on weren't available in the size it was supposed to be sorting by --- grr - forget it!! I feel dumb for continuing to go through the sale stuff thinking I'll actually get items I order! I must truely by an addict!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sorry to complain about final sale, but I feel like it's stretched on longer than usual. Is that just my imagination?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I ordered the Sea glass Piper tank 4 times. I was told each time it had been cancelled. Two days later, it arrived! Maybe 4 is the lucky number, at least for me!

  10. Oh, I'm eating lunch at my desk just so I can go thru the sale section again - and look at all the new additions.

FFM - you rock! got lots of great ideas from your combos. How about that lame skirt from the summer collection with the tiers of ruffles. I just had to have it and haven't worn it because I don't know what to put it with. Traveling to warm weathers this fall and could definitely use it! What do you think?
BTW - bought the pumpkin wool pants on the privatesale coupon!

  11. ffm: thanks for backing me up! I almost caved this morning when I saw the Frances in my size, but didn't do it. I just can't take anymore of the "where's my package game." I'm officially joining you on your "fast" until the October merch comes out...;)

  12. I am so sick of looking at the same merchandise day after day. I can't wait until the new items show up!! Also, yes, it DOES seem like this Final Sale has stretched on forever.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The site is all kinds of f'ed up for me right now. Not worth the trouble for picked over merchandise that isn't really there and/or not on sale.

    Frustrating.

  14. What is up with the french terry tuxdeo stripe SWEATPANTS? Sweatpants are for puttering around the house or the gym-- I do not want to see someone trying to rock these out to dinner. Bleh!

    ReplyDelete
  15. ha! I just looked these fancy sweatpants up, and actually think they are cute! But no way I'm going to spend 70 bucks on something I wear around the house. Or have to dry clean! I'll keep buying my "lounge" clothes from Old Navy thank you very much!

    ReplyDelete
  16. here is the link to tuxedo stripe sweatpants. ugh, sorry but I have a deep seated hatred for sweatpants as everyday and/or dressy wear. Next "Love it or leave it," Alexis? :P

    ReplyDelete
  17. kater,

omg I just noticed they were $70! I was too busy hating on them, lol.

I will also stick with my cheap old navy sweatpants. Only the boyfriend sees (and makes fun of!) those.

    ReplyDelete
  18. heather we are on the same page! I love my old navy sweats, only my DF or close friends who come to my house when I am looking icky see them, and they cost 15 DOLLARS!

we should start a pool to see how much these will go on sale for. I'm saying first markdown = 34.99

  19. So somehow I am no longer getting emails from JCrew - it stopped prior to the recent 20% email. Thank goodness I read the blog so I know what is going on.

While I hate to continue my frustration I would just like to say “Thanks JCrew for ceasing all communication with me. It makes perfect sense once I evaluate the staggering amount of money I spend on your clothes along with the extra special treatment and hours on the phone with your CS staff trying to track down missing orders, incorrect charges, etc”.

OT, I tried the Personal Shopper more than a month ago and have never heard another word. I wasn't really expecting to when she ended my purchase by saying call me if you ever need anything. Here I thought we had spent an hour shopping together and helping her to “understand my preferences’ so that she could be my "eyes and ears" at the store but that apparently was a silly assumption on my part. I am a little amazed that company policy does not require a PS to send a thank you/follow-up note out to customer after a scheduled appointment - especially after the customer purchased merchandise.

Does anyone know if the PS’s receive any type of commission for sales through appointments?

  20. ladolcevita: Thank you so much for the compliment! I will definitely include a set or two for the Lame' Tiered skirt...btw...how warm of weather?

    ReplyDelete
  21. marison-I was told by someone a few years ago who worked at a B&M that SA's receive 2% of sales in addition to an hourly wage. If I recall correctly, the 2% doesnt kick in until a customer spends more than $250 in a single shot. Not sure if this is true or if I misunderstood or if that policy is no longer in effect-this was 3 summers ago (when I first became ADDICTED after having my 3rd-AND LAST-child!)BGD

  22. Heather & Kater: I am actually going to use the sweatpants for a "Questionable Item of the Week" post for tomorrow!!! (No joke- I just made the post and have it all set for tomorrow!)

  23. OT:Does anyone know how I can find the name of something from last fall? I have a black jacket NWT that I would like to sell because I just haven't wore it but I do not know the name. The style number is 88253 and the origial price was $165.00. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. In regards to my other comment: I did some research on ebay and this jacket looks like the Porta but from fall last year and the price was $165 not $148? Hope that helps?

  25. I added some Final Sale item reviews to my blog if anyone is looking for fit opinions. I'd love to see your comments over there on items not yet covered or if you have a different opinion.

  26. Has anyone purchased the stretch chino skirt? Does it run TTS? I tried the cord skirt and no matter what size, it didn't look good on me...does it fit like that?

    Thanks!

  27. Hi everyone! I am in need of some help here. My co-worker is interested in the Georgia Dress and we read it was unlined and now the red flags have gone up. Does anyone own this dress?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't mind the reminder emails. For awhile I didn't get any emails so too many is better than not enough!

Is there any consensus on when Oct. will be out/up? A CS rep told me the catalog will be in home this Sat. and the site'll update by then. My local B&M told me next week. I hope the CS rep is correct!

    ReplyDelete
  29. CS told me the web will be updated next Monday with the new stuff.

I don't mind the emails, I am finally receiving them again. I got a weird one this morning re-confirming my parcel shipped out last week after I have rec'd the usual confirmation shipping notice.

  30. Amy...I have the stretch chino skirt and I thought it ran true to size. It is a-line so I definitely wouldn't try sizing up.

  31. FFM - Warm? warm days but cool-ish nights first stop.....warm nights the second..Can't wait!!
    THANKS so much.

  32. musthavejcrew - I think that was the Marcy jacket, 'cause I actually sold one on eBay a while ago. Don't remember the item # but it was very similar to the Porta.

    ReplyDelete
  33. musthavejcrew: I will try to find my older J.Crew catalogs. (Right now they are in a box somewhere, I just have to find the right box. ;) )

If you ordered the jacket online (or over the phone), you may want to give J.Crew a call and ask them to retrieve the order for you. The order should still have the name of the item on it. :)

  34. shannon: i've been checking out your blog and it's great! thanks for posting all the info about the stuff you've tried on or bought. it's so helpful!! :)

  35. o/t: Has anyone checked out the Silvered tweed pencil skirt $175.00 (96409)? it goes with those silver pants that was featured last week Love It or Leave It silvered tweed univerity pants. At least the model is smiling in this photo.

  36. A store manager told me the new catalogs usually come out the 24th.25th of the preceeding month.

I was previously having pretty good luck with getting sale items I ordered, but lately a lot of sale items I have ordered are getting canceled. I am beginning to think it is a waste of my time to wade through the sale pages and place orders only to have everything canceled. I will therefore be ignoring these reminder emails until they get their inventory problem fixed!!! (I am not really buying anything at FP these days--with the economy so bad everything is bound to get marked down quickly).

  37. Thanks, Sooner! Do you like it??? I am very much a pear-shape so I am a little worried about lumps and bumps...

    ReplyDelete
  38. I really like it. It's very comfy. I have pear tendencies also but I like the way it fits.

  39. Petite sizing: I'm 5'3 a size 2-4 but I usually buy regular sizes. I am thinking of ordering the denim pencil skirt in a petite. Would this work for my height or do you think it would be too short?

    ReplyDelete
  40. cass, I totally agree with you. Most of the items I ordered online were canceled or missing from the packages that I received. Now after placing each order, I need to worry about whether it will be canceled, shipped, or charged correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Soonergirl-The denim pencil doesn't come in petite. Do you mean the straight skirt?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Shannon...yes, I meant the straight skirt :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I tried on the straight skirt in regular and with it sitting low on the waist it was a little too long on me. I'm 5'4

    ReplyDelete
  44. I know this is off topic, but the outlet stores? What do they get when the October stuff comes out? I know they have different stuff from the regular b&m. So what is the stuff they are selling there?

    ReplyDelete
  45. i know I am probably a sucker/idiot, but I placed an order this AM. I have been placing over the phone but I decided to go through with the online. I haven't received my Confirmation email in the last 6 hours---we shall see.

Also wanted to chime in that I LOVE the denim straight skirt.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thanks, Kater- the Lisa dress came today in navy!!! I really do like it, especially for the price. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. jliz: I bit the bullet and placed an order online yesterday (first time since the downgrade, had been calling them in) and another one today. I still haven't gotten email confirmations on either one of the orders. However, both orders are showing "open" so I'm optimistic...we shall see...

    ReplyDelete
  48. It could end today for all I care; I'm not ordering. I'm so disappointed in J.Crew's Fall 2008 Collection. The orange & yellow color palette just doesn't appeal to me. There isn't at all a pink that I find attractive - I think the pink is supposed be bright rhubarb, but I much, much prefer last year's azalea.

My credit card has suffered nowhere near the constant activity it saw last year at this time, when I was snapping up full-price Bellas and cashmere sweaters and some skirts... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Denim straight skirt - I am 5' 3" and I am usually a 2 but I had to downsize to 0 regular for the denim straight skirt. It sits low on my waist but I like the regular length to give it a more fitted longer retro look, 20s look. Petite is just too short for me.

  50. About items not being in stock when you call -- I once tried calling in, asked for four different items and was told that they were all out of stock, she couldn't even click on them on her computer, etc. But they were staying in my shopping bag so I figured what the heck and tried ordering, and they all came, absolutely no problem. This was in the thick of the problems, so their systems might be more accurate now, but if you really want something it might be worth trying even if they say it's out of stock...

    ReplyDelete
  51. kater - If you are looking at the Frances in an aqua color, that may be a faux listing anyway. I placed an order for P6 and got a big ol' PSYCH! That is, it was canx on me. I also had a CSR check and she didn't show it in stock in her system.

Yogichiki -- I also want to know about the Georgia dress. Anyone order & try it on....anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  52. First post here. I ordered a pair of harbor grey regular fit broken in chinos that were on sale and had them cancelled on me. I checked the website and of course there they were still listed as available in the size and color I ordered. So I just responded to their e-mail telling me they were cancelled. I told them (politely) that they either needed to get them off of the site as being available or fill my order. They wrote back VERY quickly (within an hour) and issued an apology with the same "we're working on a new site design" excuse. Haven't they been "working on the site" for 3+ months now? Sounds like they need some new I.T. people.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hah, I was interested in the Georgia dress, too, but now that it's on FINAL SALE I won't be ordering it because I'm not going to order something I've never tried on without being able to return it. Yet another example of J.Crew's stupidity regarding the final sale. Grrr.

As much as I dislike J.Crew's high shipping charges, I hate the final sale most of all. And this one has just been endless.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Dear J.Crew,

Please either a) end Final Sale, or b) make everything in the Final Sale $9.99. Who's going to want to buy your new clothes if they have a closet full of your old clothes with the tags still on?

    Thanks,
    silver_lining

Seriously, guys and girls, how many items have you purchased from a FS cycle that didn't work for you? I'd have to say probably 30 for me. Geez!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Please help! What cardigan can I wear with the Printed slub-silk shell in warm merigold?

    ReplyDelete
  56. silver_lining: lol! I'm in the same boat --- but I keep shopping and rolling the dice! It's crazy!

    END THE FINAL SALE ALREADY!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Usually, I would be all over the jcrew sale and I would take advantage of the code to stock up on long and short sleeve t-shirts. However, within the last month, I noticed that 2 short sleeve shirts and 1 long sleeve have holes around the seam around the armpit (couldn't describe it any other way). These shirts were purchased within the last year. I wash them correctly; I'm not busting at the seams (the shirts are loose) - I don't know what's going on. I've had to throw them out. I'm going to have to swear off their knits and find another brand. This and the layout of the sale section are making me weary!

    (Thanks for letting me rant).

  58. OT - when do the reward cards get sent out for spending $500 on your credit card. I spent $500+ on my last credit card statement, so when do they send the rewards out... all at one time, or as soon as you spend $500? Is it a gift card? Thanks!

  59. Was someone here looking for a Chevron puffer vest? I just saw one on ebay, sz small citron color. Here is the item no. 380064835380

    ReplyDelete
  60. gigiofca-we called j.crew today and the CS said it was see through.

kya- I have also had holes under the armpit and at the end of the placket. I thought it was an attack of moths or that my husband stuffed the washer and they ripped in the drum, but it is just the quality. Both were pique polos which made me sad since they are my fav.

    ReplyDelete
  61. yogichicki - Thanks for the details on the Georgia. I didn't think to call CS since not enough of them seem familiar w/the clothing. See through? No thanks! My guess is if you ask a CS to not mark it as FS s/he might do that as a courtesy, esp since it's unlined. I can see putting a slip underneath it, but who wants to do all that?

Guess I'd better keep tabs on my pique polo before wearing it lest I be embarassed while out and about one day. Yikes.

  62. When my son went to Cooperstown, NY this summer I wore the Links Print cardi the last evening we were there. As my son came into the stadium I raised my arms over my head to clap and felt a breeze. The ENTIRE armpit in the sweater (which I had paid full price for) was gone. It was so embarrassing! While everyone else was enjoying the fireworks I was scurrying off to the souvenier shop to purchase a shirt to wear. Booooo.

    ReplyDelete
  63. kya and jcrewjunkie, I too have had the same hole problems with the same type of shirts! But my annoying thing are these prickly bristle things poking through the silk lining of a couple of JCrew jackets...one wool and one cotton...one is from this season and another is the JCrew collection tan cropped trench from last season. I had to take them to a seamstress and have binding tape put around this weird burlapy fabric that is under the jacket. Really weird and cheaply made for very expensive pieces!

    ReplyDelete
  64. jcrewjunkie, I hope you took the sweater back to J.Crew. They should have re-imbursed you fully for that, and apologized.

    ReplyDelete
  65. la belle helene: I completely agree with you! I have returned a couple of defective items to J.Crew...one of which was just last month, and I was reimbursed my purchase price.

    ReplyDelete
  66. FFM: what was the item and defect? Just wondering b/c I like to keep track of what items might have a defect with final sale and all:) Thanks:)

  67. anon @9:54: It was my white Silky Jersey Pleated Top...I had only laundered it one time and noticed a hole under the arm. It hasn't happened to my other Silky Jerseys, but I am keeping an eye on them.

  68. I have to share my excellent experience with everyone.

I placed an order yesterday for a number of items. One of them was the Lisa Dress. Seeing that J Crew has had problems with their inventory, I checked my order status this morning to only find that my Lisa dress had been cancelled. I then checked out their Sale Section and saw that the Lisa Dress was still available. Seething, I called J Crew to find out what was going on. A really nice CSR told me that they were having problem with their inventory and that my dress was cancelled likely as a result of low stock. She then added that she would contact the warehouse to find out if they still had the dress in stock. She had me on hold for about 4 minutes and returned to tell me that her Supervisor Mynessa would contact me. To be honest, at this point, I was not hopeful that the dress was even available. Anyway, not even 20 minutes after I hung up with J Crew, Mynessa called me back to let me know that she had personally gone to the warehouse, found the dress for me, was holding it in her hands and is personally going to add it to my order. Yay J Crew!!! Now, that's the epitome of CUSTOMER SERVICE!

I have had many problems with J Crew since June 29. After having problems with about a dozen orders, I was on the verge of not shopping with J Crew again. Had my dress not ship, it would certainly have been the final nail on the J Crew coffin. But their Customer Service shone through and I am very impressed!

Thank you Mynessa for the excellent service. And to J Crew, I will continue to shop loyally with you. The level of service you provided today is amazing! Thank you.

  69. Anon at 8:58, I have had the same problem with fibers from the interfacing poking through the fabric of my wool crepe jackets. At first I thought it was cat hair (a major hazard in our household since Mr. Hex let the white stray move in) but it was part of the interfacing. The problem is not too bad though.

I also had problems with all the tissue tees I bought year before last. The underarm seams all blew out--it was the fabric fraying, rather than the seam coming undone.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Did everyone see the reminder that free shipping ends TODAY? ;) So Alexis's guess was right, we did get another one...

    ReplyDelete
  71. anon 12:04 - The service that you received today is called EOP (Express Order Processing), where someone pulls the order for you and hands delivers it to shipping) I became aware of it last week, apparently anyone can ask for it when there has been problems with the order i.e. cancelled or low inventory, I do not know if there is an extra charge for it as it is different from the Overnight shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  72. OT:
J Crew is getting more and more stringent about combining discounts. In a past, after I placed aon-line order and it shipped, I would send an email to J Crew from my university email with a request to apply ed. discount to my order. It did not matter what I have purchased ( sale or full price, with or without added % off), my orders were ALWAYS adjusted to reflect that discount. WEll, this time around I have received an email in response to my request which stated plain and clear that they no longer would honor my educator's discount in addition to any other discount ( such as Free Shipping, extra %off, etc.)
I was dismayed, and in a future, it seems I would restrain from ordering on-line.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Wonder if the free ship reminders are a way of boosting sales at the end of the 3Q ... . Same with the time of the October roll-out. Given the website "upgrade" fiasco, investors are not going to be happy if sales have taken a real hit.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I took back a liberty print shirt that I purchased last August. The fourth time I wore it, the fabric ripped up and down the sleeve behind the elbow. It wasn't even a fit sleeve!

I received a gift card for the full price, including sales tax, without presenting a receipt.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hexicon, Thank you Thank you Thank you for letting me know you had fiber issues poking through your jacket lining from the interfacing! One of mine was really bad because it was just this really thin plaid partial lining and I had to have it fixed with binding tape at the seamstress. I wrote JCrew and email about the problem. Would be great if people let them know b/c they could do a better job of making the jackets then! :)

  76. JCrew Towson is having 25% off women's sale. Some of the items are 25% off Final Sale, but I was unsure if everything 25% off was then a Final Sale. Also, I did not notice if the men's items were on sale.

Alot of Painter's Tee's, t's with sayings, a few Jackie sweaters in XS (some blk, azul & purple), a lot of dream tie cardi's in Navy and Honey Glaze, Boatneck City Tee's in Navy & Sea Salt. (Alot of bland stuff on sale!)

Also, I saw a few of the elusive Rose t-shirts (black with the big white rose stitching/ribbon on it) underneath a pile of map print beaded tee's. The map beaded tee is really pretty but is going for approximately $50.00.

New items to be put on display next week!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Slastena - I think the issue w/student discount is they no longer want to honor it over the phone due to abuse. I'm not sure what happens if you send an email from your school email. I *am* sure it has been discussed in other threads, but maybe others can share their experience again.
