Are there any items from J.Crew (that you either own or are thinking about getting) that you would like FFM to create outfit ideas. Feel free to include additional info like: the climate/season you want to wear the item/outfit, as well as age bracket/lifestyle. :) After a few days, FFM will select a few items (from the feedback) to create a couple of Polyvore outfits with those items (which will then be posted for all).

What J.Crew pieces do you often wonder how to use in an outfit? What J.Crew items would you like to see an outfit created for (please include item name or item number)? Do you have any J.Crew items in your closet that you are unsure how to style with? Please, let us know! :)

  1. wow...nice outfits. I especially loved the first two styles with the "sweet potato" herringbone skirt. It's hard to pull of orange (with blue!) and make it look so tasteful!

  2. Yay! Thank you for helping me w/ the outfits! All of them are great! Love it.

  3. ffm: I really like what you did with the graphic tee shown on the front page. I purchased this and I thought it was a little too casual, thank-you for showing me another way to wear this top. My cashmere sweater arrives tomorrow, so it will be perfect.

  4. FFM-
The outfits look great. I was wondering if you could do something with the cashmere argyle V-neck in the graphite-silver-honey. I am a 26 year old who works in a professional office environment. Casual looks would be good too. Or if you want to use the cashmere argyle tie-neck vest in the same color, that would great too. Thanks!

  5. I don't know if you remember the Starlight Herringbone jacket from last year's Collection, but how would you wear that in a casual (i.e. football, PTA, etc.) setting? I doubt that it would be on Polyvore if it is from last year, but thought you might remember it. :)

    You are amazing!!

  6. FFM: Love your outfit combos. So stunning! I was hoping you could help me out. I am a 25 year old PhD student and am in need of some dressy-casual outfits to wear around campus this fall/winter. I was hoping you could offer some suggestions.

  7. Thank you for the purple berry Atrid outfits. I do appreciate the time you put into making these outfits:)

  8. OT: Someone was asking about the fit on the Simone Snowleopard Peacoat but I had not received mine yet...just did...if the person is still interested or wants a little review...let me know...

  9. FFM- The blue Astrid outfits look great! I love the color combos with the accessories. Thank you!

  10. FFM: Do you have any ideas for the Silvered Tweed Pencil Skirt (96409)? I've only seen it online, but it appears to be a rather shimmery piece, so I'd want to downplay whatever I wear on top. And I don't want it to look "holidayish". A more office-casual look for fall/winter is what I'm going for. Thanks.

  11. These look great! I thought I didn't need a black Jacinda b/c it was too much like last year's Alice, but I think I've changed my mind!

  12. FFM: You Rock!! I so look forward to seeing your combinations. Thanks for the ideas on the Sweet Potato Pencil skirt. I love every combination.

  13. Oh my gosh. This is just what I need. Please help!

My fiance and I are getting our Engagement Photos taken in October, and I don't know what to wear! They're being taken in our city's theater district, for a hip, metro look, just around sun down.

For him, its easy. He's going to wear jeans with a blazer, since it always looks so amazing on him. He's basing his colors around what I wear. He's not the problem. I am.

For me, I have a couple ideas:
*Jeans (but how can I make them look fabulous for e-pics and not like an old standby?)
*Pleated brown chiffon dress (how can I dress it down to match his jeans?)
*Skirt/dress/pant outfit(one of the three) that could have a fun, flirty look.

    My requirements:
    *No big bold prints
*All outfits include some kind of jacket or sweater
*Hints at a timeless look, but is still fun, and maybe even a bit romantic

If you can help me with even one of these, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I am seriously having some issues...

  14. Love this weekly post!

Just putting this out there for any J.Crew Corporate people who happen to read this segment:

Contest idea- have people style outfits on Polyvore & enter them. Best of the day gets a gift card & J.Crew shows the best picks on their site. (after they have the kinks worked out :P) Maybe even have a grand prize like styling an outfit for a photo shoot or something. I think it would be a fun contest!

  15. ffm: I have another piece I need help with...:) The chessy jacket, shown here, from this past spring. My only plans for it are dressy - white favorite tank underneath, black pencil skirt, and heels. Do you have any casual ideas for it?

Let me know if the link stops working as it's on sale - I also have it clipped to polyvore.

Thanks in advance! I know you're going to come up with fantastic ideas, and I can't wait to see them!

  16. FFM: Fabulous job with all the outfits- thank you so much!!! :)

Julie: I would love to post your review of Simone Peacoat on this blog. Let me know if you are interested in guest blogging. :)

  17. Thanks everyone! I'm really glad you are enjoying my sets! :)

  18. FFM: You always have such a great eye!

  19. Alexis and FFM: I absolutely love the Polyvore sets created with all the new items. What I wondered is, what about having a post or polyvore outfits with older pieces that everyone can't live without? It may be harder to find the pictures, but I am sure they are out there. Incorporate those pieces with the new items.

  20. FFM,

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I LOVE looking at your sets!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks K! I also wanted to let you know that I am also 5'4" and wear most of the clothing in my sets. I usually choose to wear a heel or wedge to help lengthen my leg line in the outfits, but do wear flat capri sandals sometimes. I think that the majority of my sets also work for petites, as I know you were looking for that in particular. Also, the Polka Dot Lana top set is for you. :)

  22. Question for the experts. Is deep persimmon or bright rhubarb closer to true red. It is very hard to tell. I am looking at the Tartine cardigan. Thanks in advance.

  23. Julie-It wasn't me that asked about the Simone but I would love to add your review to my Jcrew reviews blog if you get around to writing it

  24. FFM:

Here's a challenge for you :) I love the "whisper lame tank," but I can't figure out how to wear it. I'm a graduate student, and ideally, I'd prefer to be able to use all of my pieces when I'm 1) teaching (college students) 2) attending class 3) out for a drink in the evenings.

I live in southern california, so most of my clothing is light even in the winter. I'm also 5'2 (though fairly slender) and occasionally confused for a high schooler (though I'm a decade beyond that age range), so I prefer clothing are more elegant/grown-up (no pastels or neon colors please!). My style is usually pretty classic, with victorian and funky alternative touches. I tend to look better in fitted clothing, or at least fitted through the waist.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Victoria - I don't have a Polyvore for you, but please consider a change of clothing. You should have a minimum of 2 outfits. It can be as simple as a shirt change. I did e-pics and had 2 looks. I'm so glad I did because the look I was least excited about was the big winner. Congrats on your engagement. :-)

    Great sets, FFM!!!!

I also love the whisper lame tank. Would love to see a Polyvore of that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ok, I'm addicted to Polyvore. I signed up and just made one with the sequin argyle cardigan that I could definitely see myself wearing to work. :)

  27. Hi FFM, you are a genius!!! I love all the outfits you create, you have great sense of style! Well, I was wondering if you could also help me. I have a jackard fiona jacket, which I love, but I have worn just once because I don't know how to wear it. I am a PhD student, and I would like to be able to use it in a school/professional environment, but also to go out. Would you have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  28. FFM great job!!!

Thanks so much for the ideas with the Tshirts! You must have read my mind with the Seize Il Giorno ensemble, but I never would have thought to put the Beaded Shoe with the Sour Lemon Jackie. Nice! You have a great eye! Are you this good with decorating, too?? LOL

  29. leaderboys: I have the tartine in bright rhubarb, and it is a pinky red (or red-pink). I don't know if this helps. I haven't seen the persimmon, but I think it's an orange-red.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi FFM: those are really GREAT outfits. Thank you!

Do you have any ideas for last year's heavy cotton sweater / jacket--double-breasted, French striped, black / white? I've worn it once and did not do it justice.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

    ReplyDelete
  31. leaderboys: math teacher is right, persimmon is more of a reddish-orange. The closest I remember the Crew getting to a true red was with "Holiday Red" or even "Dark Poppy". But these colors are from last year so you'd be hard pressed to find them right now. The could possibly pop up in the sale section though.

  32. FFM: Your ideas are fantastic! What are some of your outfit suggestions using the printed slub silk shell (96622). I am in my early 20s work in the fashion industry in the city. Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. FFM: One more request. I just purchased the jersey knit bow skirt (97649). Any fun ideas for that one as well?

    ReplyDelete
  34. FFM: Any suggestions for how to carry off the Phoebe dress in an office setting? I'm stumped about how to incorporate a sweater or belt or something because of the ruffled collar and a-line shift.

Thanks and I've really enjoyed your outfits!

    ReplyDelete
  35. How about the "Ruffled jersey seaside dress" in black, for traveling to a tropical getaway?

    ReplyDelete
  36. i love these outfits:)
do you have any ideas how to wear the featherweight merino tunics?

    thanks:)

    ReplyDelete
  37. i'd love to learn how to pull off the belle skirt in the bright red color ( i think it was bright rhubarb?)
I've done it with a navy cardigan and heels for walking around campus but i felt so overdressed!

    ReplyDelete
  38. An outfit for men would be brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  39. jeff - You have to suggest an item to work with. Pick something for FFM to begin with.

    ReplyDelete
  40. FFM, your outfits are great! Thanks for doing this!!

I don't have a request for a specific piece, more for a lifestyle - I'm a 28-year-old engineering PhD, I work mostly with men (so I want them to recognize that I'm female, but not think of me as overly frilly or frou-frou), and I'm a little on the big side - not overweight, but tall and athletic, with C cups. For example, if a cardigan fits me in the midsection, it pulls apart at the chest (so I usually wear the last couple of buttons open). Can you help me come up with some professional outfits that work for my body type and work environment? To give you an idea of my work environment, the men show up in suits but lose the jackets pretty quickly. The other women wear cardigans like me (but I'm looking to spice it up just a bit :) ).

  41. FFM,

Thanks for the Lana top!!! I was very excited :)
And that's really good to know that you are about the same height as me! I'll keep that in mind from now when I look at your sets :) what I really like about your set is that it is very chic and elegant, and not overly done!! Looking forward to seeing your next sets!! :)

  42. FFM: Could you give some outfit ideas using the Annette blouse in weathered stone for someone in their early 20s working in the fashion industry? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  43. FFM: I love your combinations and your eye for style. I was wondering if you could help me put together outfits for two jackets -- the jacquard Fiona jacket in sea salt from this past spring and the Daisy Eyelet jacket in black.

Something both for work and after hours/casual if possible. I find it difficult to figure out what to match with black or ivory, especially garments with texture.

    Thank you very much!

  44. FFM:

How about the Wool Stephanie Dress. Also the green Elizabeth halter.

  45. FFM-The outfit combos are so cute!

I just wanted to know if anyone owns the Lizzie driving mocs. I just got mine in silver, size 5 and they are HUGE. I normally wear a 5 1/2 in JCrew. Do you think the shoe I got is sized wrong, or does this shoe just run really big?

  46. Hi FFM,

I'd like to submit a request!

Earlier this year I purchased the Primrose cardigan in white. (at full price - $98!) I thought I was going to get a ton of wear out of it, but so far haven't even worn it once.

At times it feels too formal and/or too flouncy for different outfits.

Here's the link on the J.Crew site (yellow version only): http://tinyurl.com/4sk6j4

and here's a set on polyvore with the white one I have (don't really like the set):
    http://tinyurl.com/4j9x5c

I'd love to see your take on this cardigan. Thanks in advance!
