Off on a tangent: 10% Off Any Order at the Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Piperlime

Don't worry, I am still all about the Crew! But sometimes there are coupon codes that might be useful for some of you J.Crew Aficionadas, like now...

"Thanks!" to Michelle who let us know in the"J.Crew Online Site: Mini Update" post that Banana Republic is offering 10% off for any size purchase (J. Crew are you taking note!) with promo code TAKE10. Also, "thanks!" to Anonymous at 4:20 PM (in this post) who let us know that this offer applies to the Gap, Old Navy, and Piperlime as well. :) This offer expires 7/16/08.

  1. I'm glad I could help :) I am not sure, but I think the site said that TAKE10 expires 7/16.

  2. Thanks Michelle- I know that code will come in handy for a JCrew Aficionada or two! ;) I will update the post with that potential expiration date!

  3. Yes, it does expire on July 16th. It also works for Gap, Old Navy, and Piperlime I believe. Their sites were down for about 12 hours for upgrades - and the site is working beautifully. J. Crew could learn a few things, it seems.

  4. This is the right way to do things and keep customers happy...also notice that it is 10% off of ANY amount, and not 10% off of $150 or $175? I really hate those minimum amount coupons that J.Crew issues...if they absolutely HAVE to do it...then they should allow you to combine that deal with a Free Shipping coupon, as well...otherwise the savings just aren't always worth it.

  5. Haven't bought anything from J Crew online since they change their website. I did purchase over $200 worth of clothing from Gap last week. Over the 4th July weekend, they had an extra 25% off their Sale items (extra 20% off of Old Navy Sale items as well). Plus if your purchase was over $100, they included free shipping on top of the discount. J Crew are you listening?

  6. Anonymous at 4:20PM: Thanks for letting us know that it applies to all of Gap, Inc. stores! :)

FabulousFloridaMommy: I couldn't agree with you more: Quickly fix/update the commerce site and give a coupon (with no minimum) to customers. :) J.Crew should take notice. ;)

  7. Webbysuzy: I haven't bought anything from J.Crew online since the website upgrade as well. It is too risky. :)

  8. Gap Inc picked a pretty good time to do it, too. They went down really early this morning, like 2am, and then came up again late morning/early afternoon today.

  9. thanks michele

Yes I think jcrew should take note that at BR, Gap and other stores you can use 2, even 3 or 4 coupon codes at once... whats up with only one at a time a jcrew.com???

  10. I just tried using FREESHIP on a $40 order and it looks like the coupon has expired: "Promo code FREESHIP entered cannot be applied for selected Shipping Method."

I also love the fact that you can stack coupons at BR & Gap and that their sales are never final. That's great customer service!!

  11. I bought a really cute blouse from BR a few weeks ago, and when I walked out of the store I panicked about whether I should have bought it. And then I realized that I had the option of returning it later if I wanted to, and it was like this huge knot in the pit of my stomach suddenly unraveled. I was in a great mood for the rest of the day, and even wore the blouse out that night. It was like having the option to return it made me more sure that I wanted it in the first place.

I love J.Crew but I hadn't realized until that moment just how stressful J.Crew has made my shopping experience, which is sad because shopping is something I thoroughly enjoy and even find relaxing. Final sale and maybe-you-will-receive-it-someday-or-maybe-not shipping have really rained on my J.Crew parade. I LOVE the free shipping, but it doesn't do much good if you never receive the item.

That said, if J.Crew were "normal" again and they offered free shipping w/o a minimum, I think that my spending might become a problem, haha. Bad for my cc, good for J.Crew!

  12. Great news. Since the upgraded Jcrew website is almost not functional, I am now switching to Banana Republic. two weeks ago, I placed my first BR online order, and since then I've shopped at Banana Republic for FOUR times in the last two weeks.

And I noticed today that the "FREESHIP" for Jcrew has expired. Sadly, the website hasn't been improved much though.

  13. I've often taken inspiration from J Crew magazines and looked for similar outfits from Gap, BR and Old Navy, and usually I find some great stuff. I broke down and got a BR credit card a few months ago because you earn reward coupons after spending a certain amount. The card can be used at Gap and Old Navy as well, and trust me, it comes out of my wallet often! (Like today.)

I still love J Crew clothes and accessories, but it's such a headache to deal with final sale items and the exorbitant shipping prices. I haven't purchased anything from J Crew since the no minimum shipping went away. I'd rather save myself the headache and the cash and find J Crew-esque outfits somewhere else.

  14. if anyone is an anthropologie fan, use the code DREAMS right now for free shipping :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. i liked anthropologie, but to me all the clothes just look sloppy. I mean I feel like a lot of their clothes look like they were chewed on my dogs and then hung up for people to buy.

However, I was in bergdorfs today and they had a fabulous sale going on. I have a gorgeous isilli dress on hold... I am thinking about it.

I did buy from jcrew today... I dont mind the final sale so long as I can try it on first. It makes me only buy stuff that i am really in love with... so it actually saves me $.

  16. I went to j.crew b&m today. They had received the fall look book and let me pre-order from it! one of the items I ordered was that embellished turquoise sweater jacket (the one with shown with the green leather gloves in the preview link that someone shared with us in another post). Anyway it is called the Astrid and it also comes in plum and heather gray.

I also purchased the trouser jean, high heel flare (both fit great), belle skirt, jersey bateau top and a cotton mustard-y yellow sleeveless top. They let me use my 20% off online only coupon in the store!

    ReplyDelete
  17. oops! I meant jersey bateau dress. sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  18. hdayton: Wow, you got first dibs on the Fall wardrobe. Let us know how you like the jacket when you receive it (color, fit, fabric, etc).

    ReplyDelete
  19. blumre: i am confused why you think anthropologie stuff looks like it has been chewed on. do you mean you bought stuff there that was bad quality and easily became tattered?? i have a good amount from there and have not had issues like that whatsoever. Right now I am eyeing the Windowpane shift dress (style #833063). i I also have other items from them for my home, including my favorite set of dishes. they were handpainted and are of very nice quality and, imho, a good deal too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kellyanne311: Thanks for letting us know about the Anthropologie code. I already made it into its own post! :)

HDayton: I don't know how you got the fall look book but that is fantastic! :) The Astrid embellished turquoise sweater jacket looked beautiful from the picture we saw online. Congrats on the purchase!!!

Kellyanne311 & Blumre: I find that Anthropologie has a mix of clothing: some really gorgeous clothing items that will last for years and some really overpriced cheap quality items that will need to be replaced after a few times being worn. I think it just depends on which label (since they use different clothing vendors) you go with at their store. I must also admit that I do love most of their homegoods- I bought several bowls and cups from them. I also bought a couple of dog sweaters from them (when they use to offer a dog clothing line!) :)

  21. Um so I have received a total of 3 "your order has shipped" emails from J.Crew for the same item, an item I received last week (and returned tonight). I better not have been charged 3 times :P

  23. Btw, when I went to the J.Crew b&m at Willow Grove this evening to return some chinos, I figured out what my problem with the staff there is. They are super nice when you want to try things on, and they help you with sizing and take away things you don't want, but then when it comes time to return something it's like they start resenting you. This is the second problem I have had with returns there (non-final sale!). It seems like they always think you are out to steal or con money out of them.

In other news I went to White House Black Market to return something I bought EIGHT MONTHS ago and never used, but kept the receipt, and they happily credited me and even showed me some lovely sale items at amazing prices. Their sale is an additional 30% off already marked down items AND ... YOU CAN RETURN THEM!

    Take that J.Crew.

  24. P.S. I looked for some things that people had said they wanted, but I saw nothing of import really ... it had been pretty picked over. The only things I noted were 2 black San Telmos, both size 4, a couple of Katie sweaters in geranium, both size L, several tulip jackets in flame and citrus lime, some Candace sweaters in orange and brilliant blue, and tons and tons of flip flops. Pretty standard I think. Anyway if you are interested in any of these, it's the Willow Grove PA store. I am going to KOP tomorrow to return some shoes, and will pop into J.Crew there to see what there is to see. I'll let you know if it's anything fun.

    ReplyDelete
  25. michelle: I think there are several fellow aficionadas looking for the black San Telmo Jacket. Hope they read your comment.

I haven't had any problems at the local J Crew stores here in Manhattan. I think it's because I'm living here in this particular area that retail business is very serious. There's always Gap, BP, Ann Taylor or even better Saks, NM, Bloomies and Bergdorf on the other side.

    ReplyDelete
  26. KellyAnn311: I love Windowpane shift dress (style #833063) too when I saw it at the stores! So pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  27. webbysuzy: I didn't realize that folks were looking for black San Telmos in stores; I guess I forgot since they are online. But now that you mention it, there were some ladies who tried to get the store price by calling CS and were denied. So if anyone is in fact looking for the black San Telmo jacket, THERE ARE TWO BLACK SAN TELMOS, BOTH SIZE 4, AT THE WILLOW GROVE PA J.CREW: (215) 659-8245.

I wish I would have thought to put them on hold :P If I see anything tomorrow at KOP I will put it on hold.

  28. Does someone know how to post a link to the Astrid sweater jacket? I must have missed the older post. Thanks.

  29. If you have a BR card you get a $15 coupon to use on anything in the store on your birthday month! I got mine for the month of July...no restrictions on using it other than the item has to I think...$15 or more....take that as a perk JCrew!

  30. What are the name of the GAP jeans that everyone likes so well. I think that I might just have to try a pair...or two! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. jcrewjunkie: I personally like the GAP Essential Jeans seen Here and Here and Here ...I have the medium tint and dark tint. They are very comfortable and look great on. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks FFM...I would like to order one of each. How does the sizing run? I wear a 26 in J Crew. Would I take a 2 in GAP?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi jcrewjunkie: I wear a 4 in Gap Jeans and a 4 in J.Crew Trouser Jeans (they are the only pair I own, and they don't go by waist size). I have found that for me, personally, I wear the same size pants/jeans at GAP, as I do at J.Crew. The best part about ordering from GAP is that you know you can return them if they don't fit...plus returns through the mail to GAP are free now, as well...no risk, really. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. jcrewjunkie: i wear a 26 in the new overdyed matchstick jeans from jcrew (which fit the same as the 27 in the denim matchsticks from last year). most of my GAP jeans and pants are size 2 (but sometimes a 1 depending on the cut). they are usually fairly consistent with their sizing though...there might be very little variation depending on the cut. if you aren't able to get to a GAP to try them on you might want to order 2 sizes... :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. FFM: i didn't know that GAP had free return shipping now! i don't pay attention to that since there's a GAP pretty much on every corner out here and i always return to the store. that's cool!

    ReplyDelete
  36. ccbmum: I think the Free Returns must have started when they linked all 4 stores together...it's such a great deal and makes purchasing a completely RISK FREE enjoyable experience! :) The link to the return page is Here.

  37. I actually wore my Gap Essential jeans in Dark Tint today with my Suzannah Cami in Ivory and my Tulip Jacket in Bright Flame over it. I wore my new Born Welly sandals (they are FABULOUS btw), and accessorized with my Coach bag in British Tan, and a necklace in Earth tones (chocolate brown, ivory, and amber) that I had previously purchased at Forever 21...it really helped "pull" the outfit together. I plan to wear the cami and jacket with my brown pants this Fall...I LOVE THE TULIP JACKET...now I want it in Flax and Navy, too! ;)

  38. anon: Here is a link to the Astrid Jackethttp://blogs.glam.com/glamchic/2008/03/31/sneak-peek-jcrew-fall-2008-collection/
Like I said last night, it also comes in plum and heather gray.

  39. I love that Gap/old navy now does free returns--- I'm much more apt to purchase or try something out when I know there's no hassle if it doesn't fit.

I caught a sneak peek at Patrick Robinson's Fall line for Gap and it looks interesting.... I'm eager to see it hit the stores.

  40. Michelle: That is so weird that you got 3 emails from J.Crew about shipping for an item you already got. I really hope you haven't been charged three times too! That is awful. :(

Also, I think that is fabulous that White House Black Market accepted a return from months ago without any question. :)

Anonymous at 4:46 AM: A birthday perk would be wonderful from J.Crew. They had something like that last year: J.Crew offered people with birthdays during a month a $4.95 for shipping code. (I never actually received it, I saw it posted on Retailmenot.)

FabulousFloridaMommy: I didn't know about the free returns either- that is fantastic!!! :)

  41. i used to get a $20 off $100 for my b-day month from jcrew...it came in my catalog...good for only online and catalog from what i remember. the last one i got was April '07 but no such luck this year :(... i always thought it was nice to get a "happy birthday" from jcrew. GAP and Banana still give me a special b-day coupon...unfortunately i don't buy as much from them any more...

  42. I am afraid that JCrew has lost many of its BEST customers due to several awful changes (even attitudes are changing)... Read the posts here about how many of us are now spending our money elsewhere... It's sad, but true. I feel like JCrew has "broken up" with me. Or maybe the feeling is mutual?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Don't forget about the big NORDSTROM Anniversary Sale that starts this Friday, July 18! There is always really good fall stuff on sale before the season starts!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I just posted as "Anonymous" @ 9:40. I have been a JCrew jumkie for 8 years! I just truly disappointed in the whole JCrew.com experience now. It just gets harder and harder to want to spend money there these days! They are pushing me away.....

    ReplyDelete
  45. ccbmum: I think JCrew should bring back those birthday perks. :)

Anonymous at 9:40 PM: I know what you mean. Hopefully J.Crew will fix this all soon (although, I have been saying that for about two weeks now!)

JenG: Excellent point about Nordstrom. I really like Nordstrom (and their flat shipping rate!) :)

  46. Well, today I went out on my front porch and there was a package (arrived yesterday apparently when we were gone) shipped via Priority mail from J Crew. Here is what I received:

Sea Glass Piper tank-this is just sooo beautiful. I got the size 0 and it fit me perfectly.

Corinne Sweater/Jacket-got this in navy and plan to wear it with a white tank and chino shorts in British Khaki. Alexis is right, this is "snug" in the sleeves.

Navy Jeweled Flower Belt-looks awesome with my dark jeans.

Black Wide Band Bikini bottom-got this is a size Small and it fits perfectly.

Metallic Casa Rossa jacket-I am going to wear this with my orange overdyed cropped jeans, white tank, and my Coral and Shell beaded necklace.

Hopefully, I will be getting another box tomorrow, but I no longer rush to the door to see if it has arrived. I am still waiting on my Madras jacket and getting more and more bummed as each day goes by.

  47. To those of you who have the jersey bateau dress, what shoes are you wearing with it?

    ReplyDelete
  48. What are people saying about the Candace jacket in sweet orange?

    ReplyDelete
  49. jcrewbug: The Candace Jacket has gotten great reviews on here...especially the Sweet Orange. I almost purchased it a couple weeks ago in my store, but having a limited amount to spend, I couldn't get it with all the other items I had purchased...but, it is VERY cute on...very "Jackie O" looking. I actually tried it on with a Navy Elizabeth Halter and it was adorable. I was able to wear the Small, even though I have broad shoulders. :) It has been marked down an extra 25% in my store if you decide to call CS to get it. The store number is 407-226-9732 and it's in Orlando. Hope this helps! :)

  50. Thanks for the coupon! I buy 75% of my wardrobe from BR and Gap (rest, combination of j.crew, dept stores etc.) because they offer ALL their styles in size 16, and most pants in size 16 Tall. I work out regularly and am too small for plus-sized clothes, but my build is too big to fit into size 12/14 that many brands go up to. I love J.Crew styles, but they only offer their most basic stuff in size 16 which is annoying. Anyway I shop so much at BR that I have their LUXE credit card, get free shipping on ANY size order (i.e. even if it's $1) and I just got $80 worth of rewards coupons in the mail. I just used them for a combined order of sandals from Piperlime and and underwear/workout clothes from Gap with free shipping for a total of $1.16. I am a happy shopping camper. ;)

  51. I know this is an old blog entry, but I got the cute apron dress at Old Navy and I have to say that it is ADORABLE! The quality is very nice, and the price (at $29.50!) couldn't be beat. Their dress collection this summer is pretty amazing and much more stylish than I remember in the past. I just ordered 2 more dresses (at $29.50 each!) and I hope the quality is the same. But as others have stated, the fact that I can return them with no problem leaves me feeling like it's a no brainer for me to try things out.
