This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale
items at our
various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If
you are stopped
by a J.Crew store this past weekend
to see what's available (if
anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS
{sigh!} in person, maybe you
might be willing to
share that with us in this post. In
particular, if you could share
with us a few of the noteworthy items
that are available, at what
prices, and potential sizes the
store is carrying (as well as the
store location)- that would be
fantastic!
Also, please
let us know if your local store
was/ is carrying an additional
percent off sale. Thanks in
advance!!! :)

And now back to J.Crew! :)
Over the weekend Miss JR was asking about a new pair of shoes/style. I saw a new to me style I like…a platform loafer (student 2) by Jeffrey Campbell that’s actually very similar to a Gucci style that’s not made right now. The Jeffrey Campbell are not inexpensive and my sister suggested I just treat myself to the real thing. I’m only seeing them second hand hand and wondered if anyone has experience buying designer shoes secondhand and if it’s worth it. I also have no idea how Gucci shoes run—I saw one listing that said this style ran 1/2 size small. I’d love any advice.
ReplyDeleteAlso, wore my linen ruffle neck puff sleeve blouse for what may be the last time this season. I love this top. Probably my favorite jcrew purchase of the summer.
I have only
DeletePurchased Chanel and Marni from
The real real. I prefer them because they allow returns and their descriptions are most realistic. I haven’t tried Gucci loafer but their sneakers can run half size large or TTS depending on style. I would recommend trying Gucci shoes in store to get an idea of how their loafers fit. It sucks that that style is no longer available. The real real does offer returns (not free) or you can drop off in store if you live close to one. Sorry can’t be of much help.
Fitting loafers is so tricky for me because of heel slippage. I really shouldn’t even consider them unless I can return. 😞 I’m going to continue my search. It might not make sense for me to try this style resale.
Delete@Suz, I’m with Kikigrl on Gucci sizing. They run all over the place according to style. I have a narrow heel and normal medium width. On some sizes I’ve had to size down and others up and some don’t even fit at all. Try them on in store and get your correct. If they fit treat yourself and if they don’t and run large or wide pass. Don’t try to make this fit with insoles. You’re paying enough. Good luck.
Delete@Suz, My experience is exactly the same as Lynn's. I have a pair of bit loafers that are 8M, which is my usual size. That pair fits true to size, but when I ordered the exact same style in a different color, the 8 was too small. Fortunately, they were from Bergdorf-Goodman, so it was free shipping both ways and full price, so no final sale issue.
DeleteThank you both.I’ll keep my eyes on the Gucci website and see if they come back. Def not worth saving a few hundred bucks if the shoes don’t fit well.
Delete@Suz, you could try Nordstrom or come here visit and I’d be happy to take you shopping. I guarantee you would pay 40-50% off even if it’s not on sale. Cash is still King over here🤣
DeleteI’ve tried the big local department stores and also thought it would be a good purchase next time we get back to Europe. Darn Covid.
DeleteVisiting friends this weekend and went to a big regional outlet mall with a J Crew Factory. There are so few J Crews of any sort left near me anymore that I gladly went in just to have a J Crew in-store experience! I found the men’s stuff generally better than the women’s. There was some holiday merch coming out, lots of plaid including Black Watch. Virtually all the women’s sweaters were acrylic blends. They did have some cute coats in nice colors that are versions of the Lady Day and Cocoon, but I found them extremely short, like hitting upper thigh - and I’m 5’4”. Is that a cost-cutting measure? Lots of accessories and pj’s. I bought a couple shirts and tees for my sons and a cute pair of shearling slide slippers for me that I loved. I may order more of those for gifts. Wondering what items other JCAs have purchased and liked at Factory. Should have asked before my trip!
ReplyDeleteRuffles, I buy a lot of pjs, tees and cotton Teddie sweaters from Factory. I stay far away from the acrylic stuff as I can’t stand the feel or the pilling! I find the pjs, tees and cotton sweaters to be decent quality and the styles are sometimes better than regular J Crew (at least for my taste). The prices are seriously ridiculous so of course I wait for super sales. The price tag on the last cotton Teddie I ordered was like $79.50!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, shopalot! I did see a lot of cute pj prints - I’ll have to remember that. I did think the prices were higher than I was expecting for Factory even with 50% off the whole store.
DeleteHi all, input appreciated. Do you like lug soles lace up boots? I’m considering purchasing a pair not from Jcrew and in Suede. They have a lower sole and are in some pretty colors. Is this look too youthful? I’m normally a classic boot wearer. Appreciate any feedback. They are on Nordstrom’s website Paul Greene Jackson Lug Sole. Thanks
ReplyDeleteLynn. I don’t dislike them but do find them tricky to style, and sometimes I am not crazy about the fit on my ankle. The ones you posted are pretty though.
DeleteI don’t know your age but I do think they can be timeless. How would you style them?
@Suz, thanks so much. I’ve tried some of their boots in the past and with my narrow heel and ankle they fit well. As far as styling, being casual while not working only with jeans. The other issue is I know know my husband would hate them but I wear what I want anyways. I’m older than you. Maybe I should pass. I was looking for something different and the line is very well made and comfortable when you’re on your feet. I’m still dealing with my after knee surgery and can’t wear high heeled anything.
DeleteHi Lynn! I agree with Suz. They can be timeless. I own a very old pair from LLBean that I wear with dresses and skirts. I don’t think they look too youthful. I am thinking of replacing mine with the one from Sézane called Eyugene. I am not likely to wear them if they have a size zipper. The ones from Paul Greene are cute ans look comfortable. HTH
DeleteSorry meant to *don’t have side zipper” I find the lace only option cumbersome.
DeleteLynn my husband doesn’t always love my chunky shoes like my stellas either, but I think it’s all in good fun. If you can style them in a way that makes you feel great and they are comfortable I say go for it. The colors are pretty.
DeleteI’ve tried several ankle boots recently and returned them all which is why I’m now considering the loafer instead.
@Kikigrl, thanks so much. I looked at he one you’re interested in it has side zipper. Nice color! I like of the bag paired with it. Nice combo.
Delete@Suz, same here with hubby and humour added. What color color do you like? So grateful for input from all of you here. Thanks
Deletei think i'd be more concerned about it being suede... although, i am not one who's had much luck with suede in the past.
Delete@MissJR, thank you. The suede would work best for me being lightweight. I certainly wouldn’t go hiking in Alps with these nor in the rain. Did you see my reply to question about the cotton cashmere mock neck pocket sweater? It’s cute.
Delete@Lynn YES thank you! it's been sitting in my cart waiting for me to pull the trigger. :)
DeleteLynn I do find taupe to be a versatile boot color, especially in suede, so the antelope color has potential. Since I’m a red girl the flame could be an option too though sometimes that’s too much.
Delete@MissJR, if you can grab this for $63.00 or less I would say you’d have a reasonably priced top. Hope there’s a price drop after midnight for you.
DeleteSo what’s your color preference on the boots ladies ? Thanks and this will close my request for the boots
DeleteI like the antelope color. Agree with Suz. It’s a versatile color. I have had a lot of luck with generic suede protector spray but I live in the SW with no snow or rain 😄
Delete@Suz, I was betting on you with the Red ones🤣 I think the Antelope might be the one. Thanks again and hope you find the perfect loafers for yourself.
Delete@Kikigrl, Thank you so much as well. That’s the one. Generally we have no snow and if so which is rare only a dusting. have no snow but we do get rain at times. For heavy rain it’s a pair of rain boots. We have pretty picture perfect weather most of the time. Thanks again and enjoy your nice weather!
DeleteDon’t forget everyone the next launch starts after midnight. Let’s hope the IT Dept doesn’t screw up once again🤣
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for nice tailoring and non-elastic waist pull-up pants in nice wool. Okay, I really do NOT need one thing more in my closet, but I would like for J.Crew to look better.
DeleteThanks for the reminder Lynn!
Delete@MmeJacqueline Same here. I’m also looking for a new cashmere coat. The 20+ year coat I have is beginning to show wear. Have you seen the Ralph Lauren Collection? They have one which is completely sold out. I was shocked at the price. Their website did not specify where it’s made. I will look over here but if Jcrew comes out with something of great quality I may give them a little business. I’m still hoping with fingers crossed.
Delete@pbsnos, you’re most welcome. Here’s hoping for a better launch.
DeleteThank you for the reminder Lynn. Hope you find your cashmere coat 😀
Delete@pbanos, sorry for the typo
