Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Sale got me again this morning. I don’t really need a velour sweatsuit, but my sister got it in all colors and loved. I opted for gray and sized up because most likely they won’t leave the house in them (I’m not really leaving the house much anyway.)
Also got the Nordic boots in cobblestone, totally not a need...
Meanwhile, my coat ordered yesterday shipped. And my orders from 1/7 are still lost somewhere in USPS world. 😔

    1. How much poly is in the velour jogger pant, Suz, do you happen to know? TIA!

    2. I don’t and I don’t think it says online. Just cotton and poly. I do think I ordered last year and returned. Oops. I’ll check my order history.

    3. Too funny, I ordered in Jan 2019. Returned. Not sure but I think I remember they felt very cold inside. The cut of the pants was different. Hopefully I’ll like these. They look a little slimmer through the leg

    4. Thanks, Suz! While I was debating they sold out in my size. I hope you like them! Please report back.

    5. I really like the cobblestone Nordic boots! Love the color! Yes not a need but will watch! I just got the creepe sole boots with fur so need to hold off!!!

    6. The Navy value joggers are 76% cotton, 24% polyester! They are very soft!

  2. Omigod, velour sweatsuits. I haven't thought of those since the Juicy Couture days.
Does anyone have/seen the cashmere sweater in bow stripes in the white/navy colorway? Wondering if the light color is sheer.

    1. So funny, right. Trust me I didn’t get these as fitted as the juicy ones were, and I can assure you my sister didn’t either.

    2. @ eeps: I ordered those cashmere sweaters with the bow stripes in both the light color and the navy with green bows. I returned the white/navy because I thought it was too see-through. I like the navy with the green bows, but I do wear a l/s black silk under garment because it's a little scratchy.

      Delete
    3. Thanks Jacqueline! I suspected as much and that's why I hesitated. I like the navy/green too but I would wear the white/navy more often since it's easier for me to match.

    4. I got the pants in November for myself and my daughter! I like them! I kept the navy and return the grey! I have 2 from last year! They slightly different styles!
Also received my Cameron tuxedo pants! Took my reg 2. They are small and not lined but I do like them so will look 4. Not like my reg Cameron pants! No stretch! Wish they were lined! But will try Sz 4
Holding on cashmere for now as I feel it will be cheaper soon!

  3. Happy Friday JCAs!

I've gotten even more particular about pants while WFH. I had always been particular about fabric content. The old JC standard 98% cotton 2% elastane was my favorite.

I've been living in older Billie Demi Boot Crop jeans. The fit is perfect and the higher rise is super comfortable. I have four pairs in various denim shades and have been looking to branch out. The problem is fabric content. I've gotten JC cords in the past few years that have been ITCHY, I think it must be the polyester.

Suz and others, I know there has been a lot of talk about pants and jeans. Would you have any suggestions for me based on what fits (Billies) and my fabric content preferences? From JC or elsewhere?

What are people doing with their old matchsticks and toothpicks? I wore a pair of toothpick cords on Wednesday and felt like I was suffering all day, constantly pulling them up and tucking my shirt in. I put four pairs in the donate bag yesterday and have maybe six or eight pairs left. I'm considering donating them too but wonder if I will regret it-specifically the old velvet ones that were 98%/2%, a content that I just can't seem to find!

    TIA!

    1. CORRY, Everlane has a few pairs of kick flare jeans on sale that might work for you. The rise might actually be a little higher than the billies but I liked a few pairs I’ve tried. Also, their wide leg crop in surplus is on sale and I’m stopping myself because I know I find that color difficult but if I was less crazy I’d buy them in a heartbeat. I have the black ones on now and as I mentioned the other day, I took down the hem and actually much prefer them like this. The fabric is super comfortable with a good amount of stretch and the high rise sits at my belly button.

I have gotten rid of almost all my 8” rise toothpicks. I’ve sold or given them away. I have two left and may just donate. 8” is basically my low hip bone, but on my daughter who took my dark rinse pair, they work well. Her torso is shorter than mine. At one point I liked the lower rise because I would wear more fitted tops so I had some shape, but i realize (maybe as I’ve gotten older) that pants at my waist are more comfortable and shift around less.

      Delete
    2. Same here. I have donated all my lower rise toothpicks.
I like everlane too. Also Alex Mill have nice cotton pants. Nordstrom have them on sale right now in limited sizes. None are final sale.

      Delete
    3. Ooh, I didn’t see that. The Alex Mill linen pants are my favorite for summer. They’re not even black and I wear them.

      Delete
    4. Checked rack and Nordstrom and didn’t see Alex mill pants on sale, other than the linen ones I mentioned.

      Delete
    5. @ Corry Believe it or not, I never did embrace low rise pants at all. They were not good for my body. Although I am very slender, I have a long torso, and a low rise is just not a good look with my proportions. A higher rise makes my legs look longer, and I can use that. I have had some luck now and then with jeans from Madewell.

      Delete
    6. I think they all sold out. They have been of sale for a while now. My size sold out before I thought to look 😢

      Delete
    7. So funny, I’ve checked regularly and didn’t see. Oh well. I did try the expedition pants and didn’t like them

      Delete
    8. I used to love the Matchsticks but recently I forced myself to give away probably 10 pairs of matchstick or toothpicks because I don’t think I would ever wear the lower rise again. They were in perfect condition, I gave them to my sister and she’ll donate if they don’t fit. It was a good reminder that I have too many clothes since it barely dented the jeans pile yet I keep buying things.

    9. @suz I had placed some Alex mill sweaters and pants in my wishlist. I got an email from Nordis not Rack last week that they went on sale. I don’t recall the style. By the time I checked online they were all sold out.

      Delete
    10. Jan, wow, you had quite a stash! Matchsticks never worked for me though everyone raved about them. At one point about ten years ago I asked a jcrew wearing friend, “matchstick or toothpick?” Someone else might have thought it was a crazy question but she knew.

  4. Thank you so much Suz, kikigirl, and MmeJacqueline! I will check these out!

  5. Suz and others, any guidance on Everlane sizing? Should I try my JC size in bottoms? Some very cute things, although I seem to be late to the party for several styles. Love the fabric content for many pieces!!! Thanks so much again!

    1. I take similar sizing. The size charts are fairly accurate and you can even ask for specific garment measurements. If anything I find the size chart on each garment would size me up but I more often would size down.

Some things take some experimenting. For example I preferred sizing down in the authentic stretch high rise skinny jeans and the wide leg crops BUT in some of the other styles I’ve preferred my usual or even a size up. I don’t always trust reviews and descriptions.
Also, I feel like some of their model shots are terrible. Some of the pants I prefer on myself than how they appear online. Lol. And finally, I really don’t love everything. I just try and know that it’s ok that I return. Some of the wider leg summer jeans and another wider leg denim style that came out (both are now on sale on rack) were not at all flattering.

      I hope that helps.

    2. That helps a lot, Suz-thanks. I'm looking at the corduroy pant styles. The new ones have an elastic waist. They remind me of the cords I used to put my toddlers in, LOL! I am on the shorter side so I have to be careful with wide legged styles. But I may very well try, since the other cord style is completely sold out in my size. In any case, thanks very much for encouraging me to look. I'll continue to do so. I got a pair of velvet Billies off PM a few months back, the fabric content might as well have been plastic, honestly it was so bad. It's great to know that there is a company doing 99 cotton/1 elastane reguarly. I don't know why I never looked before but very glad I did! Have a nice weekend!

    3. Agree with Suz. Sizing for everlane and AM for me has been fine if I follow the sizing chart. I also buy couple sizes the first time around since they seldom do final sales. Alex mill 100% cotton pants and shorts have shrunk for me if I put in dryer. So do keep that in mind. The quality for AM is very good. I think I wore their
Paper bag shorts every other day in summer and they have held up well. Also sizing depends on style and how high they sit on your waist. Hth

    4. Having issues posting...trying this again!
I have the elastic waist pants in cotton. Got them when they first came out in the spring. I sized up to a 0—in the wide legs (regular crop and lightweight) I preferred the 00 and it’s not that these are much smaller but you kind of want a looser fit. I could have even sized up. I wear them when I want to be comfy but not wear sweats. They are almost an elastic waist version of scrubs. The leg is loose but not super wide, less exaggerated than the wide leg crop. Remind me of the sort of pants boys and gym teachers wore in the early 1980s except those had side stripes and a drawstring. I had a pair in red and people would tell me they were boys pants. Oh well.
I was tempted to get the tencel version but I got the JCrew tencel paperbag waist and I wear them in a similar way. I do wish they were a little longer (or shorter). The length is a little awkward for me but after loving the wide leg crop with the hem taken down I might do the same with these. They seem to have a really deep hem.

    5. CORRY, Andrea Hartman of seasons and salt just reviewed the Everlane corduroy easy pants and said they run bigger than the summer chino ones. More TTS. they looked super soft and comfortable but nicer than sweats.

      Delete
    6. Thank you kikigirl! Thank you Suz! Those pants look much better on her than on the website model! I am going to try them! Thanks again so much everyone for your help and feedback! Enjoy your Sunday!

      Delete
    7. Corry, I agree! They do look nice! I also noticed they have a high rise cord that looks like the same cut and style as the lightweight wide leg chinos that I love. No rear pockets and a small horizontal front pocket. Very retro looking. I think they are out of stock of most sizes but I and super curious about them. I haven’t seen them mentioned. I probably saw them when they first came out but who remembers! Sometimes they release things very quietly.

  6. Hey JCAs! I need some help from fabric experts. Is cotton poplin less wrinkley than standard cotton? I see a couple of new button downs with longer lengths (over 29”!! That’s unheard of!). I was interested in a men’s button down in an oversized fit but these new women’s tops may fit the bill. I just worry about wrinkles and typically don’t buy 100% cotton tops because of the steaming required or cost to dry clean. Any advice would be great!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I find cotton poplin pretty wrinkly. Like the tie waist shorts. But I think it depends on the weight.

      Delete
    2. I would second Suz's comment. Cotton poplin tends to wrinkle more than other cotton fabrics, and the thicker the weight, the more it seems to wrinkle.

I also tend to avoid it if I can, as I feel it's not as comfortable to wear.

      Delete
    3. Awesome - thanks for the feedback. I should clarify that I will buy a less frequently worn top in cotton and steam but a white button down that will have lots of wear is not just worth the extra effort all of the time.

Collection going-out blazer in Italian jacquard
    Item AQ238
Beautiful, fits perfectly in my current blazer size. Feels a bit more conservative than my usual style. Works over boyfriend jeans proportionally. I think I need to play with it.

Wide-leg pant in palm tree jacquard
    Item: AQ776
Tried three sizes of these pants and they all fit. I’m going to steam them to see which look the best. They are comfortable, look like vintage pajama pants but in a cool way. It’s really too bad they didn’t do a matching top of some kind, although that would feel really pajama-y. I’m tempted to keep two sizes. Not sure if this material will stretch. These will work year round. Note the piping is more of a warm ivory/champagne color. I’m going to try these with an ivory sweater to dress down for now indoors.

Hayden pant in black Stewart tartan bi-stretch wool
    Item AT587
I sized up In the blazer and it’s a little loose but ok. I wanted to be able to wear it over a turtleneck.
Anyone who is considering the pants, unless you’re shorter than 5’4” I’d suggest the tall version. The regular is just an odd length, at least on me. I sized up in the pants because this cut (from previous styles that were similar) seems to run tight on my thighs. The 2Tall is a little loose around the waist but otherwise not skin tight elsewhere unlike the 0/0tall. The pants are lined and nicely made. The suit itself is fun and festive. It won’t be a wardrobe staple but fun to wear over the holidays. This is me trying to beat the boredom in my closet.

    1. Good that the collection jacket is a win!

I'll keep an eye out for the jacquard pants, they would probably work for me.

      Delete
    2. I wouldn’t call it a win. It’s lovely but feels a
Little matronly maybe? I have to try and style it a little better.
The plaid suit...well my girls love it. I just feel like it’s a little loud for me.

      Delete
    3. I’d say out of everything the jacquard pants are my favorite. I don’t hate the ruffle crepe top but I don’t think the fit is the best on me. It’s a little tight through the chest and the pleats around the neck almost make it look like it’s pulling.

      Delete
    4. Matronly? You? Naaaaa. How about slim black jeans and a bright tshirt?

      Delete
    5. Or dark burgundy slim jeans or cords if you have them?

      Delete
    6. I think the length of the sleeves, the shape...I just wouldn’t reach for it. Maybe if it was a regular blazer style. The tweed was really nice. There was a hint of purple in there but it was almost invisible. I actually hate purple (wore it too much in 1981) and it didn’t bother me.
I also returned the plaid suit. So well worth it but it just felt costumey on me. I considered keeping the blazer but it still felt a little loud. My first instinct was scarf and I was right.

I do love the jacquard pants though (called Suze on the label) and kept two sizes. The 0 for a neater fit and the 2 for a more loungey fit. I steamed them and they look great.

      Delete
    7. Well, at least they were not final sale!

If there's another 70% sale I'll try those pants.

    8. Sounds like you had some great finds @SuzHas! Glad that the jacquard pants worked out.

    9. PBanos, I can’t imagine the price on those jacquard pants won’t get reduced. I like the fit of them more than the pleated silk ones we both got. The pockets on those bother me, they stick out for some reason. We paid so little I feel like I can somehow make them work but I may pass them on to one of my girls. Maybe I just need to steam them better.

Jan, I got a few iffy things due to sales goggles but most of what I got I like!

I still have the black velvet trimmed coat coming, velour joggers, Nordic boots and the crepe sole leather with faux fur, if they ship. 😬

      Delete
    10. I like finding out the style names after I receive things. Not sure why they don’t use them. Thank you for the great reviews. I too am waiting for the jacquard pants to go back down to the 70% price.

    11. @Cheritheberry, I know what you mean!

@Suz Has, that's a great looking coat. You could just sew the pocket shut on the pants. But they don't stick out for me?

      Delete
    12. PBanos, they don’t stick out like that, they’re puffy and show through the legs of the pants, and it’s not like the pants are tight. I’ve steamed them but maybe I need to really steam the pockets flat from the inside.

      Delete
    13. I am so intrigued by the Nordic boot in cobblestone after Cheritheberry mentioned them. Ofcourse they all sold out now that they on sale lol. I have still have not worn the crepe sole with Faux fur which I do like a lot. But been stalking the Nordic cobblestone.. lol

    14. I paid over $100 for those boots and that was after using cardlove and $15 in rewards so I’m trying to be grateful I finally got them! There is still a sting that they went on sale the day after I received them.
I haven’t worn them, maybe I’m angry at them hahaha! 🤣

      Delete
    15. See if they pop back! You can return the non final sale 😂
I just don’t think I need 2 pairs. Having bought crepe sole boots for $36..but I love the cobblestone color and been looking for them for few days now!!!
Question are nordic boots good in snow and rain being suede? Do they need to be sprayed like the ugg boots ?

      Delete
    16. Kate - I have the black Nordic boots (which I love). I wanted to get the Pecan color, but based on the picture that Carly posted on her blog of her stained Pecan Nordic boots,I stuck with black. She says that she did not spray her boots. I don't know if spraying would have prevented the staining. I live in a city with lots of snow (and salting of snow), so I did not want to take the risk on a lighter color.
      https://carlyriordan.com/winter-boots-love.html

Is there a JCA who lives in a snowy city with lighter colored sprayed Nordic boots who can respond re effectiveness of spraying in preventing staining?

      Delete
    17. I have worn the black in snow and rain but not super slushy puddle jumping. If the cobblestone ship I will prob spray them just in case. My black Nordic boots do have some white salt (?) residue but not bad and I haven’t sprayed them. I’ve worn them hiking in rain and around the neighborhood so I’d say they’ve seen a lot of miles.

      Delete
    18. Wow!!! Thank you all! I sort of thought that! But I guess I am chasing the color vs the boot! I have sprayed my daughters ugg boots and it worked ok! I looked this morning and no cobblestone, so the search continues!!!Thanks again everyone!!!

      Delete
    19. I sprayed my pecan Nordic boots that I bought in December just to be safe. I’ve only worn them in in very little snow so far. I love them and am a bit scared of getting salt on them but since they’re winter boots I should just do it lol.

      Delete
    20. I have black and pecan and I wear them in the rain, sleet, snow, and mud a LOT and I have no staining. I have even had wet mud up around my pecan nordics and up over the suede and was so upset and they dried fine. That being said I sprayed my Cobblestone, but I also don’t plan to wear them as aggressively. I wear the black and pecan for functionality and they are my favorites to wear hiking in 35 degree weather. They’re more comfortable than my sorels, sperrys, or other assorted winter weather boots.
Kate, I will buy and return if I can get a popback!

    21. Thank you all! Now I am really determined to get them! If they pop back up! Is the sole also lined with Sherpa? Or just the cuff?

  9. I stopped in today to return the Chateau parka that I exchanged and see if I could find something to spend my birthday coupon on. FP 30% and final sale 50% - sale was a random assortment. I tried the balloon sleeve crewneck sweater in khaki - wish it were cotton, medium was a little oversized but I'd wear it with slim jeans, I'll keep an eye on sale.

I ended up with the denim jacket in brilliant day wash. I have a denim jacket from Crew (2005) which is a slightly darker than blue and I liked the slight distressing and lighter color of this one without it being too faded. The color/distressing did vary between jackets, some were more distressed looking than others. The medium was a good fit, slightly loose but not enough to go down a size (firmly in a size 8/M these days up top). With the 30% off + 20% for cardholders and my $25 birthday coupon it came to $45 (from $110). Sold! I know I'll wear it a lot and was glad to pick up a classic at such a good deal.

    1. Thanks for the review on the balloon sleeve sweater. I find that wide sleeves work well for me - they balance out my wide shoulders and narrower hips. I'd like in black, if it doesn't really needs to be dry cleaned. I usually hand wash my sweaters.
